Love?
If you have ever indulged in the music of Indian Cinema you will notice that the word love comes in various forms. In fact when I watch films with my wife (who does not speak Hindi) and she reads the subtitles she can not seem to understand which one of the words actually means love? I just tell her they all mean love and that is all that matters. It is too bad because sometimes the lyrics are very deep and they describe a unique emotion but, love seems like the only English way to sum it up.
I am not sure if other languages have this issue, but I find it very interesting to hear the derivatives used in the Hindi language to describe this emotion. I am not one who thinks everything needs an English translation or a literal one for that matter. But what I want to know is Hindi or English whatever the case, what is the word , that describes love which you identify with the most?
Is it the Hindi words Pyar or Mohabbat or is it the French word Amour or it something unique only to you?

For me it also has many meanings or feelings⦠caring about another, awe, peace, passion, laughter, bliss, compassion, and oneness. Good question. I will keep thinking about thisā¦Thank you. Love to you and all.
Mohit;
This is something I LOVE to talk about. I'd LOVE to hear what people have to say about this.
Pyar is what I feel, Ishq is what I live for and Mohabbat is the ultimate.
All is Love, the most powerful force in the Universe, in fact, the force of the Universe. There is nothing that Love cannot do, do we love? or does love simply flow through us.
On a practical level ... love to me is Respect - there is no way to have one without the other in every single variation and degree.
May we together save the world with this power.
Love is all at peace with yourself and finding that mirror in another person..... a reflection of what one projects.....j
The word Pyar means infatuated not really love. You should ask Javed Akthar what he thinks? great blog though
Hey Mohit - Maybe you need to be in Pyar in order to understand love. You should hear all the words in Spanish
You should count how many times the word is used in a hindi love story vs a hollywood story and see what the differnce is. Maybe we as Indians feel love in all sorts of ways because of our love for so manny things
ummmm...love I would say...its the most overused under utilised word ever...what i said is as much a contracdiction as the word itself :)

Hindi is complex. We can't describe everything according to English. However the lyricists in India keep coming up with words to decribe the same emotions to keep the love stories going.
