Rahul Bose - July 16, 2005
dear mallika and gotham,
as a person who likes to think of himself as almost totally computer illiterate (after five years, my lap top still has only my film scripts and my articles on it. i have never used it for anything else. my digital genius stretches to "on" and "off"), starting a blog on intentblog is like crossing the rubicon. however, since you have assured me it is simpler than i think, i will hold my breath and make the leap.
the first time i encountered the power of the blog was on reading the iraqi guy's blog on the days of the american invasion. i forget what the blogger's name is but clearly remember the chilling power, the pathos and the hilarity of that blog.i am dead sure mine will come nowhere near matching those heights,
however i can assure loggers on of a kind of diary of my work in films as an actor and a screenplay writer (am currently writing the script of the next film i want to direct), my post- tsunami work in the nicobar islands on behalf of the Solidarity Network, and of course my continuing pleasure and pain-filled adventures as a member of the indian rugby team.
please feel free to slag me off when things get too boring or just too pretentious.
there is, surely, an element of narcissism in the act of blogging and expecting people to give a hoot about what you have to express... ah, well. now that i'm in, i'm in the whole nine yards.
lots of love. rahul

Hi Rahul,
love your first post. I feel like a newbie with computers myself. But I guess it is like anything else. We learn when we practice.
I look forward to hearing more about your experiences with acting and films.
Hi Rahul,
I love what you said about narcissism and expecting others to "give a hoot". I think that same thing sometimes, because I get caught up in expressing, expressing, and expressing my feelings, observations and viewpoints. It's a fine line for me. Passion, wanting to connect, to understand, to help, to express what's alive inside of me... balanced with the knowledge that none of this is about me.
Thanks for walking the line. I'm sure that there are quite a few people out there who won't hesitate to tell you if you fall off. :)
Love, Kristin
*waving hello*
Rahulsaab...being a screenplay writer yourself..I'm somewhere sure your blog writting will do have fair amount of 'chilling' power!:)
Hmmm..'narcissism'..I feel everyone has shade of it within.
Aur sunao...Rahul(we r listening!:) )

Rahul: Welcome to "Colorado" as well--Bring It All On! Dave
Rahul;
Are you attending Toronto this year for the film fest? I saw one of your films have been selected.
Mohit
BTW - I caught a clip of you on We the People post Tsunami and I thought you made the best arguments.
Oh Rahul, we still love your narcissism no matter what, keep breathing and making your movies.
If it makes you all feel better, aside from Deepak, I had never heard of any of you. So you are just another normal person to me.....I read these posts, then google to learn more about you all. Please do not take this in a negative way! Joanie
Hi Rahul,
An interesting read for a start... waiting for more!
Maybe you're still sinking in after your 'wet birthday'.. hope you had a good one.
...the point here is that crossing the rubicon is an adrenalin rush that stays..so, whywhatwhere..who cares..:-))
What is your next film about..? Is it the im'prison'ed love story..or an en'circle'd one..? hahaha....hi there....lovenhug.....aaradhika
hello sir,
I am a 21 yr old screenwriter and all i can do in life is write and make films. I have made three short films. I want to get my work analysed from someone who is in the field, so that i can improvise on it. Can you help by reading a couple of my story ideas? Will be really grateful because accesing professionals is very difficult for guys like me who have no film background whatsoever. I am very confident about my skills as a writer, all i need is a platform.
My blog address is www.blogsrnot4me.blogspot.com
thanks.
Rahul, Nice to meet you in the blogosphere. I hope to read some movie posts from you. It was really interesting to see you in that cosmopolitan blah-blah show "Koffee with Karan". I guess you were the only person who talked well about cinema and stuff. All the best and keep on writing... Regards.
Dear Rahul,
don't b so self critical!!!in that case any form of expression and art, would have an element of narcissism....Esp in postmodern times, act of film making would top the chart...
have fun!!:)
NIce to have read your post... Rahul..
Well I am not sure how far this will go, but the list makes me shiver.. if all you people share your thoughts.. especially Rahul, Nandita, Shekhar ( A Film maker I have alwas admired), and Deepak.. Well it sure is gonna rock
So here is good luck.. and hey.. good intent

hi rahul,
have watched ur movies. have seen and read ur interviews. you seem to be a 'no-pretence' guy though pretending is one of the jobs u do on screen. i admire your acting skills and your choice of work.and from the look of it, you write well too. i am no big blogger, but sure do enjoy a piece of good writting any time any where. looking forward to all that your 'script writer' skills can produce . Bon chance!
I know this has nothing to do with the blog or anything else...but you are truly the hottest man alive! Keep on looking good! *winks*
Hi Rahul
This is again nothing related with your blog but thats very true that you are very inspiring and charming. I have watched all your movies and I think you are one of the best heroes on the Earth(though i havent seen the work of all the actors but i dont care...you are THE BEST). I have also watched all the episodes of WE THE PEOPLE ON NDTV where you have come and i really admire you a lot as a person. You have done so many things in your life which i really wish to do. I love your sense of humour. Specially i loved when you came to Coffee with Karan. You are SO INTELLIGENT! All your answers and the way you carry yourself really leave me mesmerised!
I hope to see more of your movies and more acts of humanity from your side specially in J&K where earthquake had striked and i felt a little disheartened to not to see you working for people there.
Take Care
Love you as always

Hi Rahul,
I think Indian society needs independant thinking actors like you as well as non-politicals like Shah Rukh Khan, both of you represent the diversity! But above all there is one connection and that is : you are Indians, it is important for all to have in mind the progress in social development! That is what strengthens a society!! So please keep on !!!
I'm looking forward on your contributions!
I like the first one about contemporizing sekularism, we've had all these discussions in christian Germany as well and it's not come to and definite end!
Hi Rahul,
Welcome to the world of blogging. I would really really like it if you could write more often. I think you are one of those thinking people...who know exactly what they are talking about.
Cheers

Dear sir,
i am a graduate student in S.M.U. in dallas. I was holding an indian film festival in college. i wanted to show "Mr. and Mrs. Iyer ". i wanted to get the performance rights for this film.it is a free film screening and it is an attempt to bridge the cultural gaps between america and india.

hi rahul
its very nice dat ur writing a blog .bcoz dat way we the ordinary peopele can get in touch with u...other wise how do u contact a celebrity?...but wat i m goin 2 say isnt related to ur blog...i m goin 2 ask u if u can answer certain questions regarding film making ...bcoz i want 2 be a film maker...& staying in a small town of agartala in tripura there in no proper way gain information bout the field(there is not even a good book shop were u can get book on film making)....can u plz take a few minutes out of ur busy schedule n answer a few questions?
Dear Rahul,
You remind of an American actor, one whose name I cannot remember - thus are the potholes of my memory. He was the cad in the film Jerry McGuire, the one whom Tom Cruise mentored. Something about your face and hair, but your body... far more agile and athletic.
I have only recently become a Bollywood fan, but feel vindicated knowing that Richard Corliss, one of the few film critics I actually admire harbors an affection for them too. I suspect that has something to do with Madhuri Dixit.
You can't possibly be a true blogger with but one posting. A secret for you: this is my first one.
I was reading about Aparna Sen and trying to find a copy of 36 Chowringee Lane but netflix had only Mr. and Mrs. Iyer - hence my discovery of an "alternative" actor/director: yourself.
I love the movie and am sorry it was not nominated for the Indian film Oscar entry when it was made. Poor SRK. I knew Paheli would never make it this year, but I would like to think that Mr. and Mrs. Iyer would have made the cut.
Yes, I know about political violence, religious animosities, but the chord that struck closest was the one about being a grown-up and having to live with the choices one has made, knowing that a door is closed before it was ever opened.
Lovely film.
Dear Rahul,
We are a team of young Himachalis trying hard to bring the positive vibe about HP and with all the efforts to promote the hill state for everything best we have. As you grew up in Kasauli it would be kind of edge for us if you join us and promote HP as brand ambassador. The way you express your love for the hills is admirable.
Thank you,
Himachal Blog team.

Dear Mr.Rahul Bose:
I just watched Mr. & Mrs. Iyer today. I had already watched Chameli couple of weeks ago. I have to say you're a great actor. There is always a big difference between a theater actor and an actor who became an actor b/c of his looks or something else (so called natural actor, Aren't we all?). Your performance made me go online and search about you. I found out about this website. You are very intelligent. So it seems...lol...No Seriously... Sorry for babbling. Also, i read somewhere in my research that you said you'll never act in a commercial based cinema. That's courages. I bet none of the bollywood's popular actors would take that. But I want you to act in my moives if I think you fit the part. Of course, it is up to you too. I wouldn't make candy floss flicks anyway.
Also, your english accent is fantastic. You're on a rugby team...wow...I didn't know India had one. I am glad to learn about that. You are also very handsome. Your smile, especially...is very sweet, innocent, yet so different. Your eyes are special...I guess everyone of us are unique in our own ways. World is a much better place because of you, Rahul. May God bless you and Keep you Well.

Hi Rahul,
This is a struggling copywriter this side, probably like a once upon a time past of yours and also a film freak of the genre you are identified very much too. Well Rahul i really appreciate your work then it may be for the society or to fill the creative thirst, which keep rising every moment that is lived, quenching it. What i am looking desperately is for some of your work in cinema in VCD or DVD format which i cannot find that has only been screened in the big screen like white noise, english august and few others. The reason for lookout is that i intend to make a collection so please guide me the way to the place i can find that stuff.
Also liked your recent factual talk on CNN IBN.
Appreciating your good work.

Hi Rahul,
I wanted to watch 'Everybody says I'm fine', unfortunately I have not been able to obtain a copy of that movie, here in the US.
Have you released the movie selectively?
I saw you on CNNibn today a program on corruption where you talked about Tenesity.I hv been fighting about illegal constuctinn above where I recide for thelast 12 yrs.
If you are interested, please see the Mumbai MIrror regarding the same.Apart from my age being mentioned as60 instead of 65, A lot more has happened since then and now DNA has taken pictures of further damage and are planning a story.
I dint Quite get the name of the Abhiyan that has been launched to combat corruption and so couldnt search for asite and therfre am adressing this to you.
People hv started telling me to be careful so that nothing untoward happens.
If you do read the article and see the name of the person involved, you will know why.

Hi Rahul,

When i read this a few lines written by an NHR activist this morning, that the death sentence to Md Afzal is too harsh compared to the life term sentences given to Sep 9/11 attackers, i had one reply for this lady. He deserves nothing less than a death sentence because he, being a citizen of this country who has lived all his life earning his livelihood here, chose to betray his country. To me he is a traitor and a traitor needs to be treated most harshly, such that the other "prospective" traitors get the message straight and up-front.
Somehow one always felt this government has Leaders with good "Aptitude" and reasonable "Attitude". Unfortunately Attitude of the heads seems to be reaching a new low and Aptitude (the attitude to apply) is seriously lacking. So many cases have been left open, issues un-addressed and lapses not redressed.
We have never been so meek on issues of Internal Security. Never before have we got a weak, unsophisticated and regardless Union Home Minister. It's as if, we are awaiting the next incident, the next blast to occur.
A subdued ex-Speaker of Lok Sabha, who found controlling rash Ministers in the Lok-Sabha difficult, holds no fort against the terror-mongers. The nation strongly deserves someone more direct and forthcoming, someone who exhudes confidence and courage to the citizens, rather than a submissive dolly.
It's quite time the Congress President does some soul searching and takes some rear-guard action by changing / switching a few portfolios of existing Ministers. The PM seems to hav no say on issues other than GDP. For now it's only prayers that can come to our rescue from threats and terror strikes.

Parvinder Singh
This is the way to go...if u don't try, u don't know how it feels, I am sure blogging has its own advantages.
no hard feelings for u rahul love your movies and love 2 c u act.also don't just look the glass as half full about NY being world's "polite city". and about that christmas eve in london that bangladeshi doctor shouldn't have rip u off like that specially being a doctor.one newyorker is rude it don't mean all of them are.i got some bad experience in both bombay and newyork. it don't mean all of them are not helpful.
i strongly agree with mr. singh. death sentence is too easy people like afzal. this NHR activists need to answer one question, why did them thousands of innocent people have to die at WTC, akshardham or that diwali bomb explosion in delhi bazzar? they were human too. do they realize that families of people who die at diwali explosion would perheps never be able celebrate diwali all their life? how would somebody feel when her husband call from WTC just few minutes before it went down and she was watching it live on tv? do the families of akshardham victims will ever have faith in god again?
Gosh, Rahul, how is it that there's no way to get in touch with you??? and I hear you are approachable!FRUSTRATION!!!
hi Rahul
am a student of journalism and development communication. I ve heard you are gonna attend the festo com..in pune on 19th n 20th of jan....
I wanted to have a brief interview with you on somethin related to societal development and media's role in it.....
This interview would solely be for our university newspaper... It would help us inspire the youth....and also teach some lessons to media professionals who would tomorrow teach the world.... I believe media has a better role to play than to just advertise the celebrities...all the time....media owes a lot more to the nation.... over to you...
Hello Rahul,

Hi Rahul, Loved your movies! Read your article on atheism and basic value of humans. It is so Hindu! (Almost identical to the tons of literature on this in Hindu texts, are you familiar with it?) You can read Amartya Sen & V.S Naipaul/Richard Lawkins on some of it. Its pretty much difficult to fight over which god/book to believe in when you do not care if there is a supercreature. And know that the (Dharma) bad and good from your own perception of self in the context of the society of humans you live within; with consequences that have to be taken in account for every action (Karma), whether good or bad, again in context of your role that you chose. Or else as the bard says:"to thine own self be true and then as night follows day, you cannot be false to any other man (or woman)
Rahul, I am an Indian based in Singapore and interested in english based acting projects/films. I am taking a summer off and going down to bombay to see how much progress I can make as I am considering a career in acting and hollywood is a difficult place considering I am not white/black/hispanic and roles for Indians are limited/stereo-typed.
Any place where do u think I should start my journey from? Any theatre or community where I can meet english speaking Indian actors?
