Anil Dash's First Post

Anil Dash - August 08, 2005

When I was first asked to participate in IntentBlog, the idea excited me because it means I get to talk more about blogging to a new audience, and that idea seemed important to me.

That's kind of an odd idea; Blogging's just a way of communicating on the Internet, like email or instant messaging or any of a dozen others, so how could it be important? Well, there's a bit of history for me, since I've been blogging for about six years and I've loved it enough that it's become the focus of what I do for a living, helping other people and organizations to start blogging.

More than that, though, it's a recognition that there's value in the simple act of speaking in a human voice, to an unknown audience, about the ideas and values that one considers important. Because, honestly, there's no shortage of guys of Indian descent talking about technology and building new software. But there is a real shortage of technologies that enable true human connection, that lets people connect with voices or people that they'd never normally be able to reach due to geography or social status or any of a million other barriers. And there's a real need for any tool that lets a business talk to its partners, customers, and employees in a personal voice, instead of the robotic press releases we've all becomed accustomed to hearing.

So, I'm glad to get to participate in this blog, and to participate in blogging in general. As I'd explained in my biographical page: "I strongly believe in the power of personal publishing and entrepreneurship as key elements of progressive social change, which explains why my work, writing, and career are all focused on these topics." I think this site is a community of people who share those interests, so I look forward to learning from all of you about how we can better reach those goals. And maybe, along the way, I can share some stories of what we've learned from more than half a decade in the blogosphere.

I am a buyer! I am covinced that blogging is part of the media revolution, bringing us a transparency in communication that will liberate those who used to be just consumer but now will be creators and producers of content. The fact that you are involved in this blog underscores that, amongst other places, this movement will be happening here!

Look forward to more!

I am so grateful for Intentblog as it has become almost a daily part of my life. I have been educated, it has been part of my spirtual enlightenent and it allows me to connect to myself and others.

I don't like to see it as a "business" as that takes away something of what has happened here. Hard to explain.....It is truly more than meets the eye....it's way more. Anybody else care to pick up where i am leaving off as I am having a hard time explaining more. Joanie

Awesome Anil. I'm happy that you are here and excited to hear about your work, because I feel that increasing the ways in which we can connect with others - especially those we wouldn't normally connect with in a personal way - is HUGE. It's a way to transform consciousness. It can help us to see the ways in which we are the same and to truly appreciate our differences.

I became involved with what you call blogging about 5 years ago. Gosh, I can't believe it's been so long. It was purely accidental since at the time I thought people who spent time on the internet were living in some sort of fantasy land and not in touch with "real" life. But one day I got hooked into deepak's old How to Know God message boards and since then I've never left. When the HTKG message boards were taken down I followed along to the Chopra boards and now I've started to become hooked here. I'll admitt that there have been times that I've struggled with maintaining balance in my life because of my connections with others online, but what I've learned has been invaluable and is not easily put into words.

One of the things I enjoy most about communicating like this is that you don't necessarily know all that many details about others. At least initially. So you don't have all the social BS and the normal judgements and/or insecurities that we typically have when we first meet people. You also don't have as many conditioned responses to weed through and overcome. And you can more easily get right to the point. This is what I value. This is how I feel and what I think. This is what I desire. This I what I dream of. Whatever. Of course you can just enjoy laughing (or yelling!) together too...

Anyway, one of the things I learned from my encouters in this medium of communication is that you can develop loving relationships with others whom you never see face to face and probably never will. I had an online friend who I met and grew to love (who for the longest time I thought was a man - until one day she set me straight!) on the message boards. And when she died it was as if someone in my own family had passed away. I still think of her and fondly remember how much trust and love I had for her and sometimes when I get stuck feeling confused I wish she were still her to give me a kick in the butt. We helped each other learn more about who we were and to grow closer to God. We grew to deeply love each other. What could be more "real" than that?

Love, Kristin

Hi Anil!
Welcome and thanks for the encouraging words. It's nice to read your thoughts and see how that has created your world. Very promising!

I just discovered IntentBlog. This was the first post I read. Neat find!

i come from best search engine http://www.google.com

I learned about the intentblog website through Deepak Chopra's appearance on Larry King Live on Aug. 23. I am a professional psychiatrist and physical scientist who has advocated the "One Mind Model" of quantum reality. This model has been called the "best modal of quantum reality" by one of the world's leading physicists, Dr. Henry Stapp, and experimental evidence for the model has been published in a major medical journal, Medical Hyptheses. The model is decidedly eastern in orientation, taking from the Bhagavad Gita the doctrine of the field and the knower of the field, which is the One Mind. The One Mind Model is also an evolutionary model, and holds that reality is determined by kwowing, bringing about the guidance of evolution by a Universal Intelligence. The paper I puplished, with experimental evidence form brain wave studies, is in a refereed medical journal, which is indexed on Medline. I think this addresses the complaint that there is "not a schred of evidence" for this kind of Universal Consciousness. The One Mind includes all of our seemingly separate individual minds. It is the Atman of the Upanishads. Its function involves something called signal nonlocality, evidence for which is given in the above-referenced paper.
