Eye on India

After reading Nandita Das’s blog “The Long Night” I couldn’t help notice the fact that CNN has spent the last week camping in Mumbai to showcase India to the world through a series of debates, interviews and documentaries. The weeklong special is called “Eye on India”.

In addition to Indo-Pak relations, CNN will highlight social as well as economic issues confronting the subcontinent. In fact, in about an hour, I’ll be live on CNN to discuss the Mumbai floods and the city’s role as India’s melting pot!

CNN’s special is a manifestation of India’s unfolding position as a global economic power and reflects the bright light under which planet earth increasingly sees India. Its up to us all to keep the momentum going, especially since the growth trajectory is, for the first time, inclusive in nature.

Milind:

All the best!
You are one of the young parliamentarians India is looking forward to with great expectations!

Hope this turns out to be a new political era, where politicians are educated, have broader persepectives on issues India is facing & rise ABOVE caste/religion! (Tall order to expect?)

Cheers!

Milind,

"Its up to us all to keep the momentum going..."

i do hope part of that effort is in actual action (bombay is crumbling!). and i do know its important for the world to take notice, but i'm sure we don't need their blessing to make us shine.

please read Anjali Adukia's blogs on paper and plastic and on economics vs environment. these are highly relevant and basic issues that need to be addressed urgently.

here's hoping you'll put the focus on those issues in parliment as well. because before we can shine, we need to be able to breathe.

PLEASE

Good Afternoon Milind . . .I have been watching Eye on India all week and it has been an interesting view on India. Saw your interview - well done! As a member of parliament - you certainly have your hands full with challenges! Best of luck and congratulations again on helping to educate the world about India! Take care . . .Laila

milind, googled you and saw you site. good to see young politicians like you dressing up smart in suits :)

Hi Milind,

I have to admit, I too had to "google" you and was in for a pleasent surprise. It is really great to see young, educated blood in Indian politics. I will be following Indian politics more closely now.

Good Luck!

-Neha

Hi Milind,
Show your profile on internet nice to know that people like you studied here and working in India. I hope people like u will take care about infrastructure and tones of other issues in India. Because I am tired of defending India and its problems to my American co-workers. They still think that India is third world poor country with large population despite of lot of outsourcing. Even I have been India only twice in India however it is not as bad as most of American thinks.
So. My point is person like you can make things happen. Best of luck
Jignesh

Dear Milind

It's nice to see a young, educated voice in active politics - people of my generation have finally started taking the reins :)

Mumbai needs a massive investment in infrastructure in order to not be a roadblock to India's fiery economic growth. Money talks - and we have it now :) Let's invest it wisely to assume our rightful place in the new global economy.

Good luck and best wishes for your efforts!

Ameet

Milind,

After having lived in North America for over 30 years, I've learnt never to take things at face value. Amongst Indian Americans, CNN is well known as someone who has taken India-bashing to a science. It was only a couple of years ago that over 50,000 indians signed a petition that forced CNN top brass into a face to face meeting with the Indian community.

Let's not get fooled. CNN's Eye on India program is just another India bashing exercise.

Milind,

Unfortunatelty couldn't tune into CNN in time. As someone who has really given up on politicians being able to deliver, the only ray of hope I see is the infusion of youth - at long last - into our political culture. I pray that the Deoras, Scindias, Pilots, Abdullahs and Jindals can make themselves heard.

So go out there and deliver!!!!!!! :). I wish you luck with all my heart - this country deserves better - much better!

Milind Deora, Sachin Pilot, Rahul Gandhi....and all our young(below 60), coz thats the definition of young nowadays. For long the west has seen Indians as "weird, sadhu and snake loving people" who torture their women and so on....It is good that they(CNN, BBC, ABC, CBS....) are having better programmes which showcase India in the way we want to represent ourselves. You MPs can play a great role in changing that. You with our support(I am just 18) can surely give a paradigm change in the way the world looks at Indians. With a scientist prez and a overqualifies PM, we shouldnt be far off our goal. Are we?

Milind, I hope people like you, Rahul Gandhi, Sachin Pilot and other young MPs join hands to bring in an awakening among the Indian youth. A big chunk of Indian youth seems to be corrupted by the Hindutva brand of nationalism. They don't understand the danger behind it. I hope sensible people like you bring in an awakening. I also hope that you guys work proactively to bring in a change in the Indian politics which is full of corrupt politicians in all parties. I recently read an interview by Rahul Gandhi. He has correctly identified "lack of proper education" as the main problem facing India. How about you guys forming a network to work on such issues? It need not be a Congress party agenda. You could include people from all parties and have a brainstorming session. You can then followup from there. What I expect from all ye young MPs is proactive attitude to bring in a drastic change in the country. Till this is done, India 2020 will just be a dream.

I finally had a chance to check out the website, nice job Milind. Haven't been able to see tv at all, (shifting into the new school etc) but from the feedback here seems like you did a great job! Hope to see more of that! Cheers!

Hi Milind
Yes, you are one of the young and brightest of politicians a lot is expected from.
I believe India is set to be a great nation once again in front of the world and you young, educated, and bright politicians are the ones who would be contributing to this great nation in making
Keep up the good work
Rachna

Milind-

The greatest issues that the country faces are the pseudo education and non-revolutionary/non-visionary youth.Inter caste marriages and self chosen marriages and on top--students not showing respect to "teachers" just because they have to need to be explicitly brought in young Indian mindsets.
You young people Sachin Pilot, Scindia and Rahul have the bigger onus for the changes.
Take bigger strides;
Rajat panwar

We trust YOU.
