Yup. This stuff is just starting to write itself.
A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS;
A PICTURE WITH CAPTIONS--PRICELESS!!
Sanjay: That is priceless--I thought Gotham's "Sadhu" was incredible; Shekhar's post of the "Coca Cola" lawsuit-generating image nearly as good as Gotham's; but this is, well...I'm old fashioned and still love the saying, "Too Cool For School"--and this one should be with Shekhar's Mumbai image of the "fly over," side-by-side, on all the world's high-rise image screens!
I could have sworn that Karl Rove had better control over the world's media outlets and their correspondingly tight levels of scrutiny and censorship!
Thanks for the "stark reality" of the truth sitting in our faces. It is not even to pick on GWB--it is the whole runaway-world of gov't.s and politics everywhere. Dave
Well...I do not understand why media people are so..critical about Bush. And I also do not understand left wing looney people...I am sure people will remember Bush for his fight agaist terror like People are remembering Regan for Winning Cold war against Russia and Communist..
Honestly ,He is much better than what media is projecting him...
Jignesh
Jignesh: Was it Reagan (whom I very much liked!) who "won the Cold War," or was it humanity that "won it?"
If you do not understand "left wing loonies" then maybe you are out on the extreme of the "right" wing?
I know that when I am stuck in either extreme--always from my "ego view" regardless of which extreme it is--I can't "see" the other side because my vision is too blurry--maybe from straining to see through the eyes of judgment?
It is my perception then--that that is what Siddhartha Guatama was addressing when he referred to finding the balance-of-polarties known as "the narrow middle path," so difficult to walk in this world until it becomes second nature--difficult to walk like "on a razor's edge," called the double-edged sword that is the blade-of-Chinvat in the Zoroastrian teachings.
As far as "projecting" goes--how much of what GWB is himself "projecting" to the public--regardless of media-spin, how much is for him to take responsibility for?
Hope you do not take offense from my questions--but if you do--then I would say..."I'll fight for your right to disagree with me, without sending my "ego's troops" in to decimate you and your lands (in the Bible--the word "land" means one's "state" of consciousness). Dave
Was it stupid of me to just burst out laughing? Dang I haven't stopped.
Jignesh, I am no leftie or even rightie. I change issue to issue - left, right and centre. I would perhaps have better understood your anguish if you had specified which particular criticism you found unpalatable and why. Without intending to offend, I feel that otherwise, one is merely shooting the messenger
Well I just read about his approval for funding Katrina victims...that's nice.
DAVID AND DARA:
Well. I am neither right wing nor left wing just in Center…However sometimes posting on bush like this one without any reason encourage me to write extreme comments.
I mean media is blaming him for Katrina Hurricane Disaster. Well first of everybody should understand that It was massive natural calamity. And nobody is pointing finger to Governor Blano and New Orleans Mayor. According to me it was failure at every level You should not blame everything on Bush. And that is what media is doing…There are lots of other issue we can debate on.Only one point to make is media is not giving him credit for preventing terror attack after 9/11…
I think below post of mine will be appropriate here. Here is what I'm trying to float because I can't see Bush loosing popularity :
"One of these conservative spinners just ought to declare Katrina as a terrorist attack by Osama. I mean seriously, it wasn't the hurricane that caused the disaster, Osama was hidding in the french quarters (not french again!!!), when he saw the hurricane he saw an opportunity to go blow up the leeves. He quietly did and flew out in the Army helicopter. After announcing this theory on FOX, Bush ought to just fire that black potty-mouth mayor of New Orleans, replace him with New York's hero Gulliani and boom you got yourself a poll increase in popularity. After all, Americans are tensed, they are heart broken, they need a villian and a hero, who is better than Osama and Bush working with God. Media can then declare a happy ending and everyone can go home with smile on their face."
LOL.
Curious:
May be you need to expand your curiocity by looking at both sides of matter before making one sided judgemental comments..
Just trying to help ease the tension. But I think I brought all the sides, Bush, Osama and God, who else is out there??
Curious:
That is problem with you liberal loonies. You always try to escape from reality and afraid of facing truth...anyways,Have a nice weekend ..
I don't mind hearing from the occasional conservative on this site. However, I wish they would leave their name-calling at home and make sure their manners are in place before contributing. Thanks.
at least W is willing to admit that he's not perfect.
haha :)
Who is looking for perfection and why?
But what would you call Cheney when he is telling those poors that everything is perfect.
RITA:
I am sorry for "Loosing Manner" according to your point of view. However If somebody is making fun out of some serious stuff then it is difficult to resist calling somebody who they are..
BTW I am not conservative. Ironically today in media is if somebody wants to make point that is little different then what elite media thinks then they will brand them 'Conservative’. I am from San Francisco Most liberal city in USA..
May be being politically correct sometimes we ignore some obvious facts of our society...
Well...
"Those Poors" was given evacuation notice much before Hurricane. they choose to stay there and should be partly responsible for it...I mean how do you justify looting Plasma TV ,Electronic gizmos without electricity. And If you want to make analysis well almost 80% of poor were African American. Why they are poor. because racism Big No . If this is case then Asian, Indian and Other people should not get making money in this country...I mean most of african American do not want to work they want to make money by selling drugs and Hip Hop and Sports...Even Bill cosby thinks that African American should thinks that African American should ask question first by themselves before blaming everything on racism....So when I am saying everybody should be responsible for this disaster It is my way of looking at both sides..
oh what a brutally honest headline
'Priceless'
Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa!!!!!!
Okay Bush administration fired Federal Emergency Management Agency Director Michael Brown...Now, What about Governor and mayor?
You fire someone who worked, you don't fire someone who never did.
Curious:
I do not want to be personal However you always think this way. Honestly I mean for Katrina Disaster everybody was responsible including bush. Bush admitted his mistake by firing Brown. Now it's "others"'s turn. Let us wait before judging "Others"
The current misinformed and terribly misguided resident of the Whitehouse, was unfortunately, only able to get to that place of power, by standing on the shoulders of far to many misguided and terribly misinformed supporters!
"Ignorance is a voluntary misfortune."
-- Italian Proverb
Anson :
Agree with you "Ignorance is a voluntary misfortune."
Apply to everybody including you and me.
However only one point that you need to take into consideration is that is survival of fittest ...If you have power and might and you are getting something out of it then Nobody will mind being "ignorant"..So I do not care about selective "ignorance" that you are refering as long as you are NO 1(Super Power)..
DAMN! I got in a little too late to see all the debating going on here! Where did you guys go?
Umm, Jignesh, one thing that's really bothered me since I heard about the looting (TV's, stereos, and other electronics) is WHO THE HELL CARES! In one news report I heard it said that some of these families in the poorest neighborhoods had a yearly income of only $7500. With those kind of wages I'm quite positive most of those people could never even fathom owning a "plasma TV or electronic gizmos". How would YOU react in their situation? Would you want to touch a plasma TV or electronic gizmo just to touch it? Just to have it, even for awhile? Put yourself in their shoes for a moment. What would you do? How would you react?
One more thing, I live in a fairly small to mid-size city in New Mexico. A community of maybe around 60,000 to 70,000 within a 30 mile radius. About 5 percent, maybe less, of those are African Americans. Not too many, would you say? A large percentage are Anglos and Native Americans. Here, hip hop music is HUGE, and the county I live in comes in second in the state for meth production. And SPORTS! Are you kidding? You have to be black to like sports? Okay, enough said.
Jignesh:
You say, making fun of serious stuff makes it difficult not to call someone what they are. I'll tell you what 'they' are - frustrated. Like many millions of Americans who didn't vote for Bush the first or the second time. Much of this country feels that this administration is the worst thing to happen to America in years. Personally, Bush makes me embarrassed to be an American. He has done a few small good things, and has done many many large bad things. He has tarnished the image of good republicans. The republican party used to stand for small business, but the Bush administration is all about kissing up to Corporate America and Big Industry. The Republican party started the environmental movement years ago, and if you look at any environmental site on the web, you'll see how much they hate Bush. He's been the most environmentally unfriendly President in modern history. He spends education money that should go to our children on the re-education of american adults whose jobs he has shipped oversees. When people are frustrated to their wits end, with no hope in sight for 3 more years -comic relief is the only relief they can get. As to you not being a conservative - I'm doubtful. People who use extremist terms to categorize people...are generally extremists themselves. Just because you live in a liberal city doesn't mean that you are yourself a liberal person. There are plenty of democrats in red states and plenty of republicans in blue states. Regards, Rita
BTW Jignesh about how all those poor who were given notice to evacuate...My mother's friend lives in N.O. she is poor and wheelchair bound because of her multiple sclerosis. She had no where to go and no way to get there. Through the grace of god - she is alive. Please try to open your eyes, listen and learn the truth that is all around you if you do more than scratch the surface. Rita
Rita:
I understand you frustration Let me respond you and try to convince that my eyes are wide open.
First You mother’s friend I agree with you If you look at my earlier comments I said everybody should be responsible for this disaster I agree partly Bush administration must be blaimed. And they took the responsibility and Fired FEMA Chief Brown.
Now About Green Environment Guys, I heard one thing that they criticize bush for not taking into account Global worming…I mean common, according to global worming experts every 100 years earth temperature will rise 2-3 F..It will take centuries and centuries to have devastating effect that environmentalist predicting. Or should say something like Dennis Quid’s movie “Day After Tomorrow” (Which was way over the top) kind of effects.
Now About tax cut on big companies and corporations, well this is paying off and economy is booming despite of Oil prize, war, terrorism threat and bush bashing.
About Outsourcing to India and China, Well I am sure that will not work as they are expecting right now because I am not sure about china however Being raised in India I am sure Indians are not capable of doing things independently as world’s most powerful economy expect. I mean When I was in India only thing that we learned was to follow things do not think independently. I mean very very few people in India like shekhar Kapoor are truly independent thinker. May be 0.000000000001 % and Here in US you will find 20 -30 % people are extraordinary intelligent and Indepent thinker. And If US is super power because of this 20-30% extra-ordianry people. So if they want to maintain supremacy they have to keep jobs here.
So may be I am not supporting you guys for criticizing Bush However I am not Die hard fan of bush Either….
re: Jignesh...
Okay, I admit it, I made the classic error...(*as Anson bangs his head on brickwall) getting sucked into a back and forth with the hopeless..
"at the end of the day if failure duplicates, there can be NO duplication" ...thankfully for this, Bush, his right hand clowns and misguided policies are finally at the beginning of their demise.
Hurricane politics (article)
"The credibility gap that emerged on Iraq has widened to a chasm with the hurricane aftermath. The media has turned a corner as well, with reporters on the scene in New Orleans liberated to say the emperor has no clothes."
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9271481/site/newsweek/
Welll..
If you are looking at hurrican(article) reference by Anson.
I would suggest you sholuld look at other side of it also..
http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/today.guest.html
and looke for hurrincane article..
i mean If you want to be 'fair and Balance' please look at both sides of it..I am not saying rush, Bill oriely or Hanity is saying truth however they are also raising a point that sometimes we as "so called intellectual" do not want look at it
So keep your eyes open....
To Jignesh:
Ok, my last attempt. You are defending a "leader" (and I do use the term loosely) who put a horse judge in charge of national disasters. And previously I wasn't referring only to Katrina's affect on global warming or backing out of the Kyoto treaty. Bush has systematically, throughout his term, rolled back every environmental protection that has been in place for decades in favor of polluters. As we speak, he is getting ready to allow tons more mercury to be released into our air. Mercury is poison. His policies are literally killing us, our country and ultimately the world.
To Anson:
Yes, his reign of terror will be over in 3 long years, but the damage he will have reaped and the 2 justices he will have left behind... I live in fear for my children's lives! Regards, Rita
FYI: If you get your news from rush limbaugh, bill o'reilly, et. al. you are conservative. It's funny that the entire world knows that except the conservatives themselves. If you find that hard to believe, your eyes are closed. But that's exactly what makes a good conservative - closed eyes. God bless you.
Rushlimbaugh listener, Jignesh, go figure !!! And we all wasted so much of intentblog space for no good reason.
Curious and RIta:
I listen Movon.Org ,Bill Maher and Al franken also..I really beleive sometimes bill maher is very very logical.Well It is looking at both sides and making judgement. My point is both extremes sometimes right in theier own way..I am not saying RIGHT is always 'right' and left is always 'Wrong' It is both of them are right sometimes..
Jignesh,
If you truly do listen to both sides, that is commendable. But no extreme - right or left - is ever good or correct. The only hope this country has is for both parties to be willing to compromise and that is only possible by meeting in the middle. The centrists and the moderates (democrat and republican) are this country's strength. The biggest problem with politics is everyone seems to have an underlying agenda that can remain hidden from public view until it is dangerously late. As for the conservatives, they want the entire country to be like them, think like them and have the exact same morals and values as they do. This would then be a country much like you say India is, where people are not encouraged to think for themselves. The liberals are well-intentioned, but tend to lack focus and are therefore not nearly as big of a force to be reckoned with as the conservatives.
Where does that leave the common American like you and me? With politics being as corrupt as it is, we need to find alternatives to achieve what we desire in life. I want everyone to be free to live their life as they choose. I want to help protect human rights and I want to help people learn tolerance. I want peace. So, instead of focusing on politics, I will now follow the lead of the good Dr. Chopra. Peace is the way. A movement to save humanity. Best wishes to you. Regards, Rita

Its 9/11, the military is in control in NO, wait a week or two then watch the numbers climb up.
I just cancelled my emails from moveon.org in spite of my agreement with their view of the current regime. I just got sick of he unending "blame game" and their obvious hatred and devotion to the old tactics of bashing, slashing and name calling. It's just so tiring, pointless, like kids sticking their tongues out at one another. Although I believe that W and Dick are caracatures of the current form of American politics and corporate piracy, I have to use my energy in positive ways. I have several friends who spend their lives screwing themselves into ground, who chew themselves like flea-bitten dogs over the daily sideshow in Washington. Does it help them, or this country, to just piss and moan? It's so easy to be cynical and it takes a lot more to maintain sobriety, balance and a love of life that calls one to serve the good as best one can in these strange times.
My two cents, peace, love and lol
Dear Sanjay ... I wanted to respond when I first saw this picture, but the SW on this system would not allow it at that time. Hey, thanks for sharing this picture as I could not help but laugh. However, as an American, according to the Bible, we are suppose to support our leaders as God selects them, so I try and try. I do thank God that Pres. Bush stopped the terrorist within certain countries, as I believe Bush was the answer to their prayers as people were tortured. However, sometimes Bush says things he shouldn't or goes too far sometimes. Please forgive Bush as he is ignorant in certain things, but I do believe he tries to follow what the Lord tells him or rather follows as the Lord guides him within the manner that he should act and respond. Remember that Bush is only human. So if some wants to reach Bush, just pray and God will take care of him. There was a reason for Bush .... Hey, we don’t have to worry about Bush in the next election, so let’s focus on our future president. But keep praying for Bush! That's my 2 cents. Love, Char
All this commentary is interesting and all – but who out there is so completely disgusted at allowing Bush and Co to continue, unhindered, oppressing, torturing and killing large numbers of poor people here in the US and in Iraq?
I do pray for Bush, Char – I earnestly pray that he gets everything he needs to be a whole person, to move expediently from his position leading our country, and be rendered harmless. Because whatever you believe – conservative or liberal – Bush is at the very least completely incompetent or at worst a malicious sociopath; he should be removed from office, because he cannot effectively run a country or build a future for a leading world power. Now, who of you is standing for that on Sep. 24 in DC, NY, LA, San Fran (or your own city?)
Amen.
hello all..... watching the tragedy unfold on television and in the print media was horrific,we were half way across the world,in the dusty vastness of india(which, jignesh bhai(gujarathi for brother)will assure u, is made of mindless zombies who really can't think or decide for themselves; so is this blog in itself a non sequitor?)and it was heart rending to see the extent of human suffering, of pain, of sorrow, of displacement.the huge wave that washed away a part of the world on boxing day,2005 struck india with a fraction of the force with which it struck indonesia and malaysia, yet we too lost thousands of lives, and the horror of that tragedy was once again brought afresh to our tired minds.as a nation,we are reasonably well-acquainted with massive human suffering, and recognise the sorrow and displacement it brings along.it was interesting tho' to see the tide of public opinion, and to compare it with an incident that happened 4 years back, which was man made, involving two planes and two buildngs in downtown new york. after sep 2001 happened, there was an overwhelming tide of human sympathy that poured out for the pple involved. even tho it was the heart of the US commercial district that was hit and the pple affected were by no means below poverty line, the direction and magnitude of worldwide and india-wide sympathy was akin to the horror we would feel after a flod,or hurricane, or supercyclone in our own country.
in katrina, after th initial horror, there was a smug "we-told-you-so" 'divine retribution, and karma, and all that jazz' attitude thatvery often, much to our discredit, degenerated into a "serves-them-right", "look-at-the-homes-ruined-in-baghdad-and-fallujah-and-kandahar" sort of pettiness.this is disturbing, because the overwhelming love and admiration that we, as a people, felt for the world's greatest democracy has been replaced with frank disgust and mean-spiritedness, and while we are most to blame for our shift in perception, the administration is also culpable for the humongous loss in goodwill.i hate generalisations as a rule(!), but americans are perceived as the world's friendliest people, and this attitude, i am sure, will disturb many of them.one of the first things GWB has to answer for shud be this loss of goodwill.
as for jignesh bhai, kemcho and all that.i am not shekhar kapur, and most certainly and self-confessedly belong to the 99.999999999999% of india that is incapable of independent thot.i'm sure things were very depressing when u were here, and i have to hasten to assure you that, what with the migration of talented and extra ordinary thinkers such as u, they have become worse.so if ure contemplating a trip, or a shift back to the home country anytime in the near future, DON'T!i'm not sure the soporific carcass of a brain-dead india would be able to suffer or appreciate the brilliance of ure thought, the clarity of ure vision,or the sharpness of your intellect. i'm sure u would be far better rewarded among the 20-30% of ure peers in the land of the free, half a globe, and more than several intellectual light years away.
