Miers withdraws Supreme Court nomination
In her letter to the president, Miers said she was "concerned that the confirmation process presents a burden for the White House and its staff and it is not in the best interest of the country."
"It is clear that senators would not be satisfied until they gained access to internal documents concerning advice provided during her tenure at the White House -- disclosures that would undermine a president's ability to receive candid counsel," Bush said.
"Harriet Miers' decision demonstrates her deep respect for this essential aspect of the constitutional separation of powers -- and confirms my deep respect and admiration for her."
Miers, 60, was nominated earlier this month by President Bush to replace retiring Justice Sandra Day O'Connor on the high court. Bush's decision to nominate Miers, his White House counsel and a longtime adviser, had divided his supporters, many of whom wanted a nominee with a clear record of opposition to abortion.
On Wednesday, White House spokesman Scott McClellan had dismissed the suggestion that senators were reluctant to come out in support of Miers because they are unimpressed with her as a nominee.
"I think you're seeing a lot of members of the Senate saying, 'We want to hear what she has to say in the hearings,' before they make a judgment," he said.
"With Harriet Miers, there are many in the Senate that simply did not know her previously, although she is widely respected within the legal profession."
Senators had hoped to begin confirmation hearings the week of November 7.

Kavita,
Miers was naught but a temporary ruse anyway, keep the masses distracted, you know, the grand old divide and conquer policies the Angles have over the centuries fine tuned into the deadly force that it is now today.
After "we" officially begin the invasion of Syria, and Americans are embroiled within another crusade against the forces of evil in this world, then the truly intended judicial nominee shall be presented, and HE shall be of Anglo-Jewish descent.
The writing on this wall is being writ, and literally built, before our very eyes. . .
And please, do not construe my post to be anti-semitic, or any such hateful nonsense, I am just calling it as I see it, and maybe we will all be presently surprised and the next judicial nominee will be a Native-American women, or, an Asian-American, or, God forbid, somebody who is neither Protestant nor a millionaire. Well, now I am in fairy-land so I shall desist.
Craig,
I smiled at your post,I say Amen to your hopes.
Ron, I wonder if she stepped down on her own or was asked to. Politics is a devious game, and self preservation at the top of the heap.
It was funny someone said the other day in a meeting- Things were not like this-I see so many exhausted, demoralized people around me-what the hell is happening to America? a united chorus responded..Bush!
Good...now I hope he finds Scalia's twin and rams him down the throats of all those screamin' libs!!! (I'm smiling as I write that!!) Ron, since I'm one of the 51% of the country who just can't relate to the nuanced, super intelligent losers, Gore and Kerry, I'll just have to keep cheering for W!! I will have to admit, I cracked up over your post yesterday, to the effect that those two losers were so intelligent that we couldn't understand them! Yep, Kerry looked intelligent talking about crawling around on his belly to go deer hunting!! Gore looked super intelligent when he claimed to invent the internet! Gore really looked intelligent during the campaign, when he daily morphed into someone else...in his search for himself! Well, y'all think our candidates are stupid...We know yours are....so next election cycle...let's just make a movie and call it dumb and dumber!!
Kavita, sorry I got off subject!! I just had to address my buddy Ron!
BTW, I'm a happily married man. My wife is BEAUTIFUL, my kids are wonderful. I say those things to preface what I'm going to say next...it is a straightforward compliment!! The ladies who post here are GORGEOUS!! WOW!!
Hope y'all have a great day...keep smiling!!!

If you listen to the conservative media (read radio talkshows), have you wondered why the conservatives are turning against Bush? It is as if a subtle tide has turned and Bush can do nothing right. Just contrast this with the last four years.
I think the right is prepping for the next year elections. They know that Bush has goofed and knew it all along, but didn't want to say so for obvious reasons. However, now that he is a lame duck, they want to distance themselves from him so that they make sure their strangle hold on all branches of governance stays intact. I say it is going to be a uphill battle. It is too little too late.

'Well, y'all think our candidates are stupid...We know yours are..'
I wouldn't consider any president in the last 25 years to be an actual candidate. A candidate for what? I sooner call them viruses because they feed off a system until it is plundered, then move on. America's hijacking made possible by gullibility, denial, and the 'if it were true, it would be all over the news' mentality.
Wingnuts.. search on 'carlyle cartel' then on 'Clinton mena drug'. Read in disbelief, and then own it. This problem is all of ours...unless you're ok with what these people do. I feel only a revolution will pull us out of our current mess.
Check here too...absolutely hilarious ( if it weren't true )..

Kavita, you're hanging out in the wrong part of the country!! with the wrong people!! Get away from the left coast, and even the big urban centers of middle America...come out into the 'kuntry'....you'll find happy people!! People who's happiness doesn't depend on what's going on in Washington even if they disagree with it!!
Life is beautiful!! Lemme tell you one of the differences between the left and the right. If we lose all the next elections, we'll carp and bitch about policies and people in power, but this depression thing that y'all go through, well, you won't see that from us. It's called faith in the inherent goodness of mankind to overcome.

Thanks Norm, both for the compliment on the lady bloggers and your latest post. I may just take you up on your offer..I see a lot of tired grumpy people here on the blog as well-I'm sure many of them will smile at your posts of today and be rejuvenated..it'll be nice to move into sunshine for a change.I'm in the republican state of Georgia, so it was all the more interesting to hear republicans make that comment about Bush!
Thanks also to all of you who take the time to write amazing, thought provoking, heart warming posts. Much appreciated!
BTW,
Mier nomination was only thing that Left and right was in agreement. That was her lack of "qualification" for the post .
She did right thing.
Jignesh
Why did Bush, a president who goes all out to put his cronies in high position, withdraws Miers?
Simple political strategy. Withdraw Miers and bring right to his fold. Immediately (This term depends on Fitzgerald) nominate a controversial right wing judge to the post. Democrats and other liberals will be more worried about it and any indictment of Rove or Libby will not take a high toll then. He will also have religious right to punch for him.
Norm,
What's up, big fella? Where you been hidin' out, lately?
I often wondered about the sudden silence. How are things around your mid-America farm? Am pleased to know that all's going well on the homestead and with the family.
Are you still going to organize that barbeque and social for the IntentBlog community next summer? I think it's a great thing to do, no question. A good old steak, well-done, with plenty of HP sauce, sounds mouth-watering any time of year, but especially so in mid-summer. I know you will have copious amounts of Crown Royal. But my preference is a glass of vintage champagne on ice.
Cheers, Buddy.
Kavita,
Quote: "Ron, I wonder if she stepped down on her own, or was asked to?"
Kavita, it's a very good question! At this time, I cannot give you a definitive answer, it would be a tad presumptuous, if I did.
But, it could very well be that she was asked to step aside; while, on the other hand, it's quite possible that has been paying attention to the sea of controversy raging in the press and decided, on her own volition, that it was not worth all the trouble.
To revert to my original statement, one must seriously question the judgement of this Commmander-in-Chief, and better still, the judgement of those who voted for him. This man does not appear to be playing with a full deck, and this is a sincere opinion, and a rather sad commentary of this moment in time.
Love,
Ron.

Norm,
If you have to justify beforehand why you're about to post something, you're hiding out. Maybe it's time to come out of the closet. :D
Have a good one.

Ready? New Rule: For Halloween, President Bush must go as either a cop or an Indian. This week, Bush dressed up like a construction worker. He's also been a biker, a Navy man, and of course, a cowboy. You know, for a guy who's anti-gay, he spends an awful lot of time dressed like the Village People. - Bill Maher

Hey Ron...just been busy....but had to jump in on this one! As for the intentblog 'rendevous', that would be fun wouldn't it? My neighbors would wonder what in the world had hit this place! As for the steak...I'll have mine medium rare!!
Y'all have a good one. I've got a busy weekend going, so it'll probably be monday before I show up again. Then, if there are indictments, ya'll will be turning handsprings, Krish will be foaming at the mouth...and I'll just have to jump back in here!

Kavita,
Miers has done the right thing, thus bringing into clear focus the judgement of this Commander-in-Chief. How many times he been able to exercise good, sound judgement?
It's a scary thought, indeed!
