Life is good!

Bharat Chopra - November 15, 2005

717 am: Living in Singapore is great! Wake up to the sun rising almost every single day. Oh well, raining this morning. At least the golf course is getting the water it needs.

725 am: Oops, gotta get the shower head fixed. Good thing I have a second bathroom and can use the other shower this morning.

745 am: It’s raining. Better call a taxi. It’s awesome to live so close to work, and to be able to take a cab to the office for 10 bucks. Best part is I can call and there’s no waiting time. I won’t get wet!

810 am: Can’t wait to hear the clients feedback on the work I did last night. I know it wasn’t supposed to be my job but it was an important task, and to be honest, I really enjoyed doing it. Even if I was burning the midnight oil doing someone else’s work. End of the day it’s my job to make the client happy. And they really were relying on me.

10 am: Call from client. “Bharat- those are excellent slides. They really tell the story I need. Thanks so much. Can you make one more for me showing….. I think those will resonate well with the other international presidents”

10:02 am: Wow that’s awesome feedback from the President of Southeast Asia for GE. I am so happy to have come through for him like this. Also feels good to know this case is closed.

11:32 am: What a blessing in disguise. Client being late for this meeting means I can clear up my work and spend some time catching up on my reading!

12:20 pm: Meeting over, time to head over to the American Club and watch the end of the Monday Night Football game! Can’t wait to see the ending. There’s about 10 minutes left in the game.

1:02 pm: Wow! Most amazing comeback. Dallas pulls off an amazing 4th quarter victory after being down 13 points with 4 minutes. I caught pretty much all the action in the game!

5:48 pm: Work’s finished! It’s been a productive day. Got the GE stuff out, had a good sales call, and am well organized for tomorrow. Time to head home and send out another resume or two. That job Kanika sent me looks really cool.

8:30 pm: Sweet, another game. Can’t wait to get out there and make some plays. We need to work on running our offense. If we get things in order, we’re unstoppable!

8:53 pm: There! My first basket. It’s been a good game so far though – a bunch of rebounds and some steals. Refs have made some bad calls but they’re being pretty fair.

10:32 pm: Cool – just heard back from John. He’s going to introduce me to the partners.

12:35 am: Ok – before I go to bed I am going to write a blog about what a great day this was! At least if no one responds, Gotham will be happy about being ahead of me in comments again! He can use the love.

12:50 am: Time to go to sleep .Another beautiful sunshine tomorrow. And then a movie date to see the Harry Potter movie. It’s going to be a great day!

Dear Bharat,

It sounds like a great day, it almost makes me want to go into the coorporate world, and move back abroad. But, I know that Singapore is definitely special and not all days are like this, otherwise we would all be there. However, when they come along isn't it great. :)

Congrats on your client and enjoy your day.

Namaste,
J

Perfect.
Loved your two blogs Bharat.
I've been thinking and observing a lot lately how it is my own mind that creates heaven or hell for me. Thus it's all my own problem!

Here is a quote for you that I just came across and have now taken as a personal motto to live by:
"Man jeetai jag jeet" (By conquering your mind, you can conquer the world)
- Guru Nanak

"Conquer" might not be the word I would choose, but still, the sentiment really STRIKES HOME for me. And I'm tired of being run by my own mind. Hey, whose in charge here anyway??

Love, Kristin

Thanks for pointing me to the other blog.
Very creative, and oh so true that our perception changes everything.

Still, please enjoy Singapore, it is really a great place once you get over some of the details of everyday life.

Namaste,
J

ps. I'm not just talking about being positive. Or not. I'm talking about learning to direct my mind so that I can fulfill my destiny. I'm talking about becoming intimate with God and my own divinity and dwelling in that space in every moment. I'm talking about using my mind and my ego and this delightful human body to serve a higher purpose.

Does that sound way "out there"? It feels "real" and it feels funny at the same time.

The Journey

One day you finally knew
what you had to do, and began,
though the voices around you
kept shouting

their bad advice --
though the whole house
began to tremble
and you felt the old tug
at your ankles.
"Mend my life!"
each voice cried.

But you didn't stop.
You knew what you had to do,
though the wind pried
with its stiff fingers
at the very foundations,
though their melancholy
was terrible.

It was already late
enough, and a wild night,
and the road full of fallen
branches and stones.

But little by little,
as you left their voices behind,
the stars began to burn
through the sheets of clouds,
and there was a new voice

which you slowly
recognized as your own,
that kept you company
as you strode deeper and deeper
into the world,
determined to do

the only thing you could do --
determined to save
the only life you could save.

I too didnt get it until I read the next one.
good job!

thanks for sharing your day...
(and for sending love to Gotham)

amazing...the care we are sending others, even when we are on the 'other side of the world'...!
love, Carolyn

thanks for sharing two sides of the same coin..great post, and great way of presenting it

Perfect contrast, a masterly exemplification of a silent lesson, Bharat. I loved it, thank you!

Kristin, do I hear the words of a warrior?? :D :P Wonderful motto, my friend :)

Bharat,Good contrasting blogs.

Really, how did you actually feel during the day?
mixture of both?

prabhakar

That is great, so what color is your underwear?

It's all in how you look at it, isn't it.....

Very cool, Bharat. You showed us all how simple it is to CREATE YOUR DAY.

Brilliant! Reminds me of Dr. Dyer's words.....each morning we have a choice.....

'good God it's morning' :(

OR

'good morning God' :)

Hi Aurora,
Are those the words of a warrior?
You're damn right, they are! Someone has to get something done around here. ;)
Love, Kristin

I am trying to make sense of this post, but with little success. I think this is a young self-indulging yuppie, with plenty of idle time, trying to brag about his cushy lifestyle and making an impression on the world. You are making an impression alright... that vanity is alive and well.

Spencer not too fast. Read his previous blog.

Great way of making the point, showing instead of telling. Last night I had a dream in which the lines to a new song I wrote today came through. The lines I was given in the dream were "Face the gain. Release the pain. Face the light." I have a lot of big opportunities in development now and sometimes lately I have gotten overwhelmed. I get exhausted then start thinking, "what am I doing all this for." Recognizing that it is a matter of letting the world's habitual negativity control my mind, I intentionally shift towards looking at the gains that will come from what I am doing, both for myself and for others. I look at the potential for gain, release the belief in futile pain, and focus on the Divine light shining through all things. I've been singing it all day.

Once again I want to share this link to the Goodness Blog at http://www.indigo-ocean.com/goodness/ where the blog's motto is "life is good." With all the negativity in the media, and in our habitual mental tendencies, we need all the reminders we can get each and every day that life is indeed good, if we intend to see it that way.

Thanks for the post Bharat. And well done.

Dear Bharat
Amazing blog, you changed my morning!Thank you. Bharat, which entry is the real you?

Bharat

Kudos for communicating the most rampant mental trap with such ease and lightness. Indeed you have not only hit it on the head but with great style. Well Done!

Bharat,

That was brilliant.. What I would like to know is how so much gyan in a matter of 24 hrs .. It takes others a yug.. are you really practising it? If you are.. you have been delivered. You do deserve ratings on this.

everything depends on the perception of our minds
gr8 post!!!!

Bharat,

On re-reading realised my faux pas.. youd posted at the same time to make your point..taken. The rest stands..very original and imaginative.

CLASSIC CASE OF SPLIT PERSONALITY DISORDER

Living in Singapore is great? Do they let you chew gum these days or do they just cane you for not disposing of it properly? BTW is drinking alcohol legal and can smoking pot get you executed or do I have it reversed?

Bharat,

What a GREAT post! It satisfied my voyeuristic urges and made me feel really good too! Sounds like you were having what I call a "magical day."

Keep up the gratitude journaling! Thanks!

Love, Bo

Bharat,

I actually read "Live Is Good" before I read your other post. What a cleaver fellow you are to juxtapose these two posts thusly!

I love it! Thanks!

Love, Bo

of course it's a great day....November 15th is my birthday!
