Paheli, by Shah Rukh Khan

Shah Rukh Khan - November 07, 2005

Thank you for your review of my film, Paheli, on Intentblog. I did read the comments, and it was refreshing to read inputs from the viewers. The film, Paheli, was made by my own production house, Red Chillies... which sounds like a Mexican restaurant, I am told, but nevertheless, a name that we have made a couple of films under.

Many times, I hear positive and negative analyses of the films that I make under this production house. Both are welcomed and taken note of...all the time...but then again, I go ahead and make the films that I wish to, and also make the same mistakes that I have perhaps done in the past.

The reason for doing this is that I believe in two things when I make a film. First, that it is not going to make me money...and hopefully not make me lose any either. That ends the material aspect of film making in the production house.

Then comes the second reason... to tell a story to a lot of people which is extremely entertaining, and at the same time, make the viewer take back home a bit more than the semi- filled popcorn packet. I don't wish them to change their lives after watching the film... I don't want them to learn a new way of being after the viewing, and least of all, I don't wish to ever preach to them what I personally cannot or am unable to practise.

Paheli was made with the same intention. A story which lends itself to intrigue, and maybe a bit fairy tale like...as one of the comment suggests. A married woman who falls in love with a ghost. It is based on a folk tale of Rajasthan written some 35 to 40 years ago. A time when we, as a society, were even more unfair to women than we are today... at least, in India. To tell a love story where a woman chose her own "man" seemed to me not only commendable and modern, but even courageous.

I am by choice a commercial actor/star or star/actor. I like to believe the former...the critics try to remind me that I am the latter time and again. I am also quite blessed...because by no choice of mine or perhaps by having no power over the choice... been bestowed by God an audience which has appreciated my work for over fifteen years. I am extremely thankful, and extremely used to the idea of being successful. Simply put...i love it.

At times, this love makes me weak enough to make choices that I feel will keep this dream to never end. And sometimes, the same love gives me enough courage to take a chance with the viewers, vis a vis the films I make.

"Asoka'' and "Paheli" are two films that make me feel the strength of the love that the audience has had for me. I cannot make any tall claims about the virtue of Paheli as a film...that decision i am very clear rests with the audiences... I can only tell a story...not really force anyone to like it. But having said that, I would like to put forth why I, as a producer, decided to make this film.

1. I think being in the position I am, if I don't take chances with the products I make..no one else should or can. I am by nature someone who wants to do things differently...not for the sake of being different, but because I feel the different approach will make a difference to many other film makers to take chances and make films which can say something thought provoking.

2. I have a deep regard for things Indian and for our culture. Unfortunately, I am myself not so culturally aware, and whenever something comes my way which introduces me to a part of our country, I want more people like me to be introduced to it.

3. I have a huge amount of respect for women. I was brought up by a very beautiful woman, my mother, and surrounded in my life by really talented and hard working ladies. Some of them are my actress friends and others in my family, like my sister and wife. Many times, when I hear a story which brings forth any dimension or a problem that a woman faces in her life, I feel compelled to partake in that story. Paheli is about emancipation of women. The right a woman should have in her life...the right to make a choice without being branded as a wrong doer. In our country atrocities against our women are not unknown even in this time and age...and through Paheli, I wanted to bring forth the strength a woman has to muster, even in dealing with very simple issues...like an arranged marriage.

Paheli was a chance to get these 3 desires fulfilled. The fourth one, as a producer, has been to take our films international. I was pleasantly surprised that Paheli is the official entry to the Oscars from India. I believed in the film on all counts when I made it. I was fully aware that it is not in a popular format that most of my films are, but i believed that people would like a good story. All my actor friends came aboard and helped me make this film.

Now I feel I have the chance to make a statement about Indian films at an international level with Paheli. My attempt is to get the film noticed by all at the Academy so that one does not have to introduce the fact to everyone that india is the largest film making country in the world... We make about 3 films a day... More people watch our films than any other film in the world... Actors are revered in india..etc etc...

I think it is the time that our film making industry got recognised on it's merit. It is the time that Indian films and film makers and the audience do not have to be on the periphery of world cinema. I think and I believe we are as good as it gets. I want everyone to know that, and that would happen if we all believe that we are not just an exotic nation of snake charmers but a media literate and educated upcoming economy.

My role is not that of a producer of a film called Paheli... that is just an instrument..but to be an Ambassador of our story telling nation, and get the world to love our stories and the technique that they use to tell them. I hope, and being a great believer pray all the time, that I should be able to achieve that. An international award will be a step in that direction to begin with...and even if doesn't come...I will continue my attempt as long as I am blessed by the love of my audience.

Insha Allah all who read this will share my belief...the tag line for Paheli is

SOME THINGS HAVE TO BE BELIEVED TO BE SEEN....

I think it will be true for our campaign for the Oscars..

love and regards,

Shah Rukh kKhan

Dear Mr. Khan,

I hate to start out by being "usual and common" that has never been my style, my mother brands me as eccentric and ever defiant of regularity and normality. I am a fan and I do think your work is good but I also think you need to know about Jamaica.

India in Jamaica.

Although our island is small we have a great population of Indians here, who's ancestory follow back to India. Although I myself am not Indian I have grown to have a great respect and love for the culture first being introduced to it through my studied at Art school where I majored in Textiles. Now that I am seeing a very special person who is Indian he has educated me on more than just dyeing techniques and fabric thread count he has tought me about the religion, he himself is Hindu, a religion with I fine very fascinatin, and more so Bollywood, and the world of Indian movies. The first movie I watched was Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (not sure if the spelling is right lol) then I moved to Lagan and several others but most reciently Baghban which tought me to sing in Hindi and Khal Hona ho which made me cry although i dont fully understand Hindi.

I am not here to sing praises to Mr.Khan and burst into "I love you so much" I am here to commend him as one artist to another whose work touch someone despite the huge language barrierand to let him know that there is a huge Indian community here who loves his movies as well as Ms. Rai and Preti Zinta and Saif Ali Khan.

I think the coulture in India is beautiful and the people are extrodinary. I hope one day I will be able to visit a Beautiful country and meet your beautiful culture enriched people.

I might be from a tiny island on the other side of the world but you work still speaks to the Indian people here in Jamaica and continue to educate non Indian's like myself about your culture and beliefs.I hope one day you will visit us and see just what I am talking about. And know that you have a group of friends here.

Dear Mr. Khan

I wrote you a message about 10 minutes ago the message was titles India in Jamaica, and now I am reading some of what people write. There is one that I think was rude and should not have been even considered. The person wrote about how much they love you and hate your wife. I think that is rude and disrespectful to both you and your wife.

I hope you dont let what some people say deter you from the choices you make. Your wife loves you and has your children. I wish you both the best and happiness.

This person said that they love you but in the end the message shows that they dont know what the word love means. When you love someone genuinely it is unconditional and sacrificial. I Love my boyfriend very much and I want to see him happy .......even if it is not with me, that is how you know you love someone.

This stupid girl needs to shut her mouth and stop being disrespectful and rude and leave you and your wife in peace.

My prayers are for you and your family, and hopes that you all be happy, and that you continue to find strength in each other.

Shah Rukh

Thank you for your post! It is an honor to feature your blog here.

For our friends from around the world, Shah Rukh Khan is one of the most famous actors from India, and a great ambassador for film from South Asia. I encourage you to watch one of his films to see what a great entertainer he is.

Mallika Chopra

Dear Shah Rukh kKhan,

I love that tag line.

SOME THINGS HAVE TO BE BELIEVED TO BE SEEN....

That reaches such a great depth and encompasses so much.

The intent behind your film making says something as well it is one not born of Ego.

Here are two films in the works that should hope to be planet altering in the shattering of Illusions. While a film in some ways creates an Illusion it can also destroy them and change the playing field and it's rules.

They are connected.

Shah Rukh - There's something very honest and charming about your post. I'm glad you found the success you sought. Nothing like star power!

Since you mentioned your deep respect for women, I do want to comment on that. I have seen 2 of your movies and in both of them your character treated the woman co-star very badly. You may just shrug this off as something to do with the character but it seems to me to be a mindset among the film crowd. If this is the true, it would be helpful if you used your enormous power to remedy the way women are depicted in Hindi films as always running after men (who behave like jerks).

I haven't seen Paheli, but realistically speaking, Bollywood does not stand a chance at the Oscars. Congratulations, though.

Hi Shahrukh,

Happy Belated Birthday. I look forward to your next releases.

Janelle

shah rukh

the west probably believes in the opposite....SOMETHINGS HAVE TO BE SEEN TO BE BELIEVED. Hopefully `paheli' will do the trick for indian cinema. good luck.

sohaila kapur

It's great to believe in something and even greater to pursue it. You have the power and resources to make a difference, and quite honestly, even when you did'nt have either, you managed to make a mark- so if anyone can take the lead in doing something for Bollywood, Indian Cinema and "culture" it's people like you. I did see Paheli, and I am not commenting on it because art is very subjective. As we have done in the past for Lagaan, Shwaas and Devdas, we will spread the word. Insha Allah your film will get success, but if doesnt dont blame god because the Oscars is the battlefield of distributors not talent. Keep experimenting with Cinema, and making films you believe in.

Namaste Shar Rukh,
Happy belated Birthday, only 40!
May you continue to grow and spread the love and talents of your "gift of inspiration" to those who are fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of you on screen.
Blessings be...to thee

It is an understatement to carry on about how your acting has influenced millions...you already know this.

I would like to add, acting on screen is one of the most powerful places to appear in order to reach and convey a message around the world...not many take it to the level of a spiritual experience, but this I experienced while witnessing the energy of your presence.

How does one express deep gratitude and appreciation? There are no words to encompass this soulfelt journey.

Perhaps one day, I would relate the experience to you about the last film I took my Dad, 80 years, to see Veer Zaara (after he had not gone to the movies in over 40 years)...and how this played out in real life, just weeks before he died. I am certain, this event will last into many lives to come.

A couple of months now, I have been having dreams about ghosts and such...then one day, my sister brought home Paheli. Isn't "co`incidence" BEAUTIFUL?

Thank you for joining this wonderful forum Shar Rukh, hope to read you more often.

In love and peace,
Cinda

It is good that i read this post before watching Paheli. Maybe now i will 'believe', so that i may 'see'

Asoka is an amazing film. One of my favorites , and its actually sitting here on my desk because I plan on watching it tomorrow again before work. Paheli, I have yet to see, only because apperently my money order to the Eros distribution center in New Jersey seems to have taken a detour to Moscow or something of the sort. From the pictures I have seen and what i've heard of it, its seems like i'll fall in love with it as well. I'm especially excited for the Indian-ness of it. I am, in this lifetime at least, quite european-decendent-american physically, but India fastinates me and feels more familiar than any other place. I always hope to be able to feel transported across the world when I watch Bollywood films, but so often it feels like a hindi-speaking america, its so 'westernized'. Not that thats a bad thing really, things are as they are, who am I to judge, but I'm always looking for thoes distinctly Indian films, to give me a taste of what i'm longing for. Paheli looks like it will give me much satisfaction on that front, so Yay to it. I hope it does fantastic at the oscars. Not that i really care for awards shows, but I would love for American's to get more exposed to Bollywood.

And, to add the obligitory fan-comment, I would just like to say that as I am an actor (though i don't care much for the latter term) myself (though with sadly few projects under my belt, which I guess is still better than a lot of other 18 year old actresses), I would like to say that you, not only in your films, but in your interviews as well, have been quite the inspiration for me, seeings how your personality comes off more like mine than most other actor's i've read up on, but you've had a lot more experience and time in dealing with yourself, and thats rather useful for me to read in the beggining of my career, when the biggest thing blocking my success is my brain.

And happy belated birthday! I was thinking of you and If I remember correctly, just might have done an amusingly bad "Chaiya Chaiya" rendition down the sidewalks of a local village in your honor.

So anyway, best of "luck" at the oscars & everything else, hope to hear from you again here at intentblog, & thank you. :)

hi shah rukh,

belated birthday wishes.

am big fan of yours. as is my mom , sister and dad.

congratulations on paheli being Indian nomination for the oscars.

I must be frank on this, but Paheli is not the ideal nomination for the Oscars. Amol Palekar has made a bold attempt at making a cinema with a difference and you have acted in a way you always have - brilliant. But there is one elemental flaw in this movie (from an oscar angle), that is, the old rural Indian charm is disgraced by artificial shades of commercialism. It was better made in a typical art movie type. Anyways, all the best. I really hope n pray Paheli wins an oscar.

hi shah rukh,

i went to delhi and drank lassi in winter...only because u spoke of drinking lassi in Raju ban gaya gentleman.( though it was not available i made the shopvaala do it and told him...this is for shah rukh khan)

i went to chandigarh and visited the sarson ke kheths as a tribute to DDLJ.

but unfortunately i did not get inspired to go to rajasthan after watching paheli.

i feel a superstar like u can NEVER carry an art movie on his shoulder just because of the huge image you have in peoples' minds.

it has been the bane of superstars. other examples are chiranjeevi and rajnikanth.
the only exceptions i feel are mohanlal and mamooty. and that too because they are superstars who are not glamorous.

i may not be the greatest fan of yours but defnitely one among the greatest.

but still,i really feel paheli didnt deserve it...u did much better movies....

and again there is another thing.

NOTHING IN THE WORLD COMES WITHOUT DESERVING IT.

maybe u deserve this nomination and i may be absolutely wrong.

all the best.

BUT ONE BIG DOUBT....WILL SHAH RUKH KHAN REALLY READ THESE COMMENTS OR WILL NOT BOTHER AFTER HAVING POSTED HIS VIEWS?

Shak rukh- ur post is very straight forward and honest ..u know what to expect from ur audience ...
i dont think Paheli was the right choice for oscars..it potrays India in a very dream like fashion and in reality people here are so different..i think Swades was one of the best movies to showcase what India truly is..
Best of luck for the oscars ..
hope u win it and bring glory to India..

Dear Shahrukh,

It is a pleasant surprise to see you on this Blog. Now I'm sure, IntentBlog will witness millions of click soon:)
This must be Shekhar Kapoor's coup of sorts:))

All the best for Paheli!

Nice post SRK and great to read your cogent thoughts on intentblog! Mallika, your spider network has immense drawing power :)

Good luck on Paheli!

Dear ShahRukh

The tag line is amazing. What I took home from the movie was that the female protaginist had a desire to be loved and the ghost was a figment of her imagination.Am I right?

Ashima

in asoka, insted of seeing king asoka in shahrukh we saw shahrukh in asoka.

by the way your 'innner n outer world' cd's were much better than both your above mentioned movies.

Paheli reminded me of all the wonderful Amar Chitra Katha books I read as a kid - the colors, the magic, the shepherd's tests... Simply beautiful.

One particular behind-the-scenes clip on the special features on the DVD caught my eye. It shows SRK up on a ladder dropping the bird poop on Rani in the beginning of the movie. Not that I know much about film making, but I'd assume that said a lot about his involvement in the smallest of details.

Hey Shahrukh ,

Nice to see your post on the blog, articulate as ever. I've seen some portion of Paheli on cable ( no, I dont support piracy but tell that to my cable guys, they're their own mafia...but thats another story )

My opinion, its a really sweet and simple folk tale ...
I didnt find it too inspiring , a movie really needs something a little more cerebral to get me . But my roomie loved it !! So there ..

But, I absoultely loved SWADES (watched it in the theatre, no piracy there )...thats a movie I could relate to as an urban Indian... it had a very refined sensibility and I can understand why it didn't click so well with the masses though I wish it had... Very original and very good movie !Might I add that I thought you were your best in that movie.

Nevertheless, good luck with Paheli at the Oscars and all your work.

The tag line is great ,anything intangible has to be beleived in to be seen.

There's something very disarmingly honest about your post, that it's instantly endearing.. especially when you talk about your success and reasons behind moviemaking..I am glad you found the success many people can only dream/aspire of. You have been appropriately tagged the Baadshah and King Khan.. unlike those people at the pinnacle of success and claiming to be 'modest' about their achievements..nothing but hypocrisy..

Looking forward to some great films like Dil Se and Swades..Asoka's character could have been portrayed in a better manner..more as a king and less as a playboy..just a thought..

Hi Shah Rukh,

Welcome to the Blog

have nmot seen Paheli, but if your intention as stated comes accross, then it really stands a good chance at the Oscars. Good luck. Shekhar

Dear Shekhar ,

Since you just posted and we're talking movies, I have to say that Masoom is one of my favourites . Lovely movie, so well made. Have praised to all and sundry earlier , so didnt wanna miss praising the director!

Its deserving of the Oscar according to me..but who cares for my opinion ..or the Oscar :-)

Im not a movie buff but do appreciate good cinema for the fact that it can absorb and transport and excite you once in a while.

So good luck for your craft.
Cheers!

Welcome to Intentblog.

Hi Shahrukh,

happy to see you writing in intentblog.

congratulation to you as your production film "Paheli" is being nominated for Oscar.

You have written about Ashoka oops asoka it should be... and Paheli.

i am great lover of historic films and i had much expectation with asoka but excuse me i dint like it at all. it shocked me when i see how a great character like Ashok was destroyed in your film. sorry for using harsh words but the film was of below avarage catagory. When we see hollywood historic films we came to know that what we are presenting as historic films are nothing but fairy tales. How do you justify Ashoka dancing and singing with street people and with his love interest of course?

As much as I would like it, I doubt SRK will be a regular blogger. If he is, it will be a major coup for intentblog. He does come across as articulate and witty in his interviews and I hope we get to hear him speak on a variety of issues not necessarily linked to films.
Like Nandita and shekhar who have proved that there is so much to them other than films.

I really do hope this is not a one-off post as part of the oscar campaign trial.(Intent blog has some powerful names associated you see - names that can make a difference in oscar land)

Dear SRK....Am a big fan of yours, like million others. Hope Paheli gets an oscar. Can't deny though that bollywood makes very few worthy of getting it, but there are a few which have real substance I reckon...not just superficial commercial ones. Masoom was one.

Pyaar ke Badshah hai aap!! Hope though, you also have a spiritual facet other than just films as Nandita and Shekhar have. I somehow find you've the Sufi core in you. Filled with Passion!!

Love...Sachin

Dear Mallika....If at all you get to read this. Thanks for getting some great names at this blog. I just think though...it would be a great idea if real nasty posts are well screened before they get in here. Forums are a great place to throw all the crappy and nasty energies. Good criticism is beautiful...but often it is taken to the limits with no check on that. Hope you take good care of this beautiful site for so many lovely souls to share their views.

Thanks&Love...Sachin

Dear SRK,
Belated birthday wishes for the 2nd of November and all the best for Paheli's Oscar quest. But like many others, I too feel that Ashutosh Gowariker's Swades would have been a better choice for representing our country. For the first time in all your movies I felt that I was watching Mohan Bhargava and not Shah Rukh Khan, the superstar. You were so good in Swades.

No matter what the box-office fate of a film is you should only make films about stories which you believe in. You make enough money from endorsements, so you are absolutely right in your approach of making films about ideas which you find interesting.

Are you in Bombay at present? I have a completed movie script which I'd like to narrate to you. I will be in Bombay for a week starting from the 16th of November. Will be staying at a Juhu hotel. I think even Shekhar lives in that area....maybe we can have a joint session with Shekhar too and he can direct the movie if he likes it. (wink) What say?

Cheers!
Navin

Dear Shahrukh,
I don't know if Paheli will do well at the Oscars but I do so agree that Indian cinema should have much more international recognition. There is a preconception amongst many that all Bollywood movies are 'kitsch' with simplistic plots and nothing else to offer. I speak as a fan who sits in empty cinemas to watch your films (wonderful Veer Zaara, excellent Swades, bit long though). There seems to be a kind of snobbery amongst 'foreign film' goers that can't seem to admit the sheer beauty and emotion not to mention the music and dance talents, of these films. There is so much to be gained from watching the good Hindi movies and most of yours fall into this category, that any publicity you can give them must be good. And yes, some more positive roles for women is very important.
With love and thanks.

Hello Shahrukh,
I have watched many of your movies including Paheli... It is fun to watch your movies... filled with love and charm... Interesting to see you post here. Your thoughts are sensible and admirable.

Venky

Dear Mr. Shah Rukh Khan,

I have been a great fan of yours for some amount of time now. I know that you are starting to “stir the pot” in my native Poland with your beautiful films. Although I live in the United States, I think that such films as “Paheli” are not only interesting and beautiful to watch, but also very important from the point of view of the situation of women. Personally - despite being a woman myself – I really don’t like the aggressive version of feminism “Made in USA”. “Paheli” is different. It is not aggressive, nor vulgar, it promotes beautiful values intermingled with women’s emancipation and gently shown love story. Sure made my heart skip a beat a few times (just like all of your movies!).
Thank you for this picture and your awesome legacy. I very much love everything you do and will be keeping my fingers crossed for you at the Oscars!
Very best wishes to you.
Gosha

Dear Richard (Thomas),
Thanks for sharing these two links in your post:
What is the secret?

Infinite Play A participatory adventure.
http://infiniteplaythemovie.com/

I explored both these sites and both of them are clever marketing gimmicks. While the first link is a precursor to a future televised event (sometime in Jan 2006) the second one is an out an out con job. The infiniteplay site gives you the impression at first that you are a chosen one by being in the 144000 people who will be "saved" and be the "creators" of a new world. LOL. But this below copy paste from that site gives their intentions away:

"How does it work? You simply make a donation of $13.13 cents to the Infinite Play and the Key maker will generate a key for you. We email you the key and then send you a plastic coated card with a bar code continuing the key. Then when ever you are prompted to supply the key you simply type it in or because it is very long and prone to typing errors you should copy and paste it. You can also purchase the generation of the key for $ 33.13 and get a free CD with the Golden Phi technology seen in the movie."

The Net is full of cheats and frauds. Beware of them.

Cheers!

Hello Shahrukh,

My two girls are die hard fan of yours. They are 7 and 8 year old.On their insistence i got inner and outer world of SRK.I was very touched by one comment of yours....which was that evrything is transient and you do realise and understand that. What all the movies and filmfare award of yours were not able to do...a simple honest remark did.I am with them now as a member of their fan club.

SRK, wow!!! I feel my past clicks on intentblogs are now worth it. No, I come here for Deepak, sorry SRK but you are the guru of all pop-culture gurus. You may be humble enough to call Amitabh a Power but you are the Power.

I just saw Dilwale Dulhaniya Layjayen Gay once again on Sony yesterday. You have matured in Veer-Zara but it was showing in DDLJ. I hope your Paheli wins but I'd be happy enough to see you in tux at the auditorium if I could get a glimpse on western media, if not, I'm sure Indian media would be covering you regardless. I hope you'd wear indian traditional suit and not a tux but hey ... it's just me wishing. Good Luck.

Congratulations for Paheli's being the Indian official entry to the Oscars, and Insha Allah it wins.
I BELIEVE,
Reham-(Kuwait)

Dear Shah Rukh, I want to wish you a lot of success on getting Paheli recognized at the Oscars. Do find the time to post more at IntentBlog.

Sure Paheli will go miles...we will all pray for its success and hope will open gates for hindi movies into new overseas market.Amen

Navin,

On Infinite Play one can read the content and watch the video and it doesn't cost a dime and there are no commericals.

The key is for special access and to play a special level of the game that will have 144,000 players. It is a donation and is not a required purchase to participate in the video itself.

What is funny is the game is designed to keep Ego out of it, which in this case would have worked on keeping you out of it.

As far as TV and Cinema, TV has tons of commercials and the movie house charges for a ticket for a one time showing, I think distibution of film over the Internet is the best deal.

I don't think SRK understands a lot of French, so below is a rough translation of the message from Hawra:

"I am fan of you since my tender childhood, since so much a long time that I do not remember pls. I saw and Re considering all your films, I will not start has the ennumerer or to say you my preferes because they all are exeptionnels and they have all some thing of very special as you you are a person so special... for me and so much of other people... this summer I etai has one in your concert I avai the impression to be an ant... a fan parmis so much of other... but I etai so happy and has the jealous time to know that of another people loves you as much as me!! this year is your 40 birth year and you gave built reve of ambitions so much has your public tellemen people admires you and adores you today... when one asks me who are the person the important pls in your life has share your parents I will answer certainly SHAH RUKH KHAN!! you ' farmhouse given of the hope when Ca did not go you gave me desire for continuing when Ca did not go you gave me reves ambitions you brought to me tellment things in my so important life of the things.... you rythmé of my life!! and I thank u!!! it is thanks to you that I am or I am!! my pls large reve would be to thank you again!! but I believe that I will not find the words... you are a person extraordinnaire.... of my share and on behalf of all those which look at you I say you big thank you and I wish you the happiness of the world in all the fields and especially I wish that you continue to make us love as much.... I love you"

After sitting throught Paheli, twice, I walked out into Times Square and said aloud..."this deserves an Academy Award nomination" then thought to myself, that's not gonna happen. The film left me breathless. As an American I view the nomination of the film differently. It IS good representaion of Hindi film. Not necessarily Bollywood film which in the very word alone is a mockery. The panel chose wisely . Paheli ,though not a HIT in India ,has a greater chance for recogniton in other countries particularly the U.S.

Hello Shah Rukh:
Always look forward to your movies. Whether a comedy (Badshah, PBDHH, Duplicate...) or drama (Paheli, KKHH, KKKG, VZ, Asoka, Josh, Dil Se...) you carry it off flawlessly....
The main reason you are a total favourite with me is because you are as decent humanbeing. Success will always be with you, because you are a decent bloke:)
All the best, always.

And yeah ,,,I have complaints too.... :(

First abour your film 'Asoka'....
It had a powerful storyline but it was too anachronistic to watch all those costumes and dances.,,, but yes ,,,,THREE cheers for its music.

Heyyyy,,,,,that Chawan Prash pppl....are to be hammered ...that advertisement was not-so-alluring to the eyes.

Rest all is fine.....All the best for Paheli @ OSCARS !!!

This time we really really want...the Occident people to see our SuPeR StAr win the Oscars.

Take Care.
We all need you.

Paheli was no way an Oscar candidate (but then, why attach such importance to the Oscars?) but no film was better than this one. All the others were either copies or needless sloppy dramas rapt with overacting. Paheli at least had an original plot, albeit clichéd costumes.

So cool that you are writing here!

Thank you so much for posting! I am a big (western) fan and this is a treat to read!!!

Dear Shah Rukh

I wish you the best of luck with Paheli at the Oscars. Besides India deserving Oscar recognition, it's now time for the American film industry to wake up to your talent and power, and for Americans to share in the joy you bring to your audiences, and Paheli is a good choice for reaching these goals.

As an American fan of your acting and your humanity, I admire the courage, vision and energy that you bring to your production ventures. I've loved every film you've produced, as these films seem to "ring true" compared with many other films you've acted in, perhaps because you've had a deeper involvement with your home-produced films. (I also think the Red Chillies logo sequence is one of the top three logo sequences out there today.)

You're filming in my home city, New York, right now, and I feel that the city is honored with your presence. I wish you and your family a wonderful, productive experience this autumn in New York.

To my favorite actor/star, I wish...

Love

Heather

To Sharukh Khan - This is my 2nd time here since yesterday. I saw Paheli and it brought back memories of my childhood days. Those were days when my uncle used to tell us ghost stories. I enjoyed Paheli because of its originality, music and dances, brightly colored costumes, and most importantly, my favorite actor. You are my favorite actor because you spread love through your movies. My all time favorite is "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai". Last year, I went to Atlantic City to see you perform and I was delightfully surprised when you came off stage and interacted with the audience for a little while. This is one of the things that make you so special. Good luck and I do hope Paheli win the Oscar. God's blessings to you and your family. A die-hard fan of yours - Rohini Singh from New York

Thanks for the great post, Mr. Khan. I just want to add that I was very impressed by your performance in Asoka (And Kareena's), but disappointed that the film focussed entirely on chandasoka, not giving any time to dharmasoka. Given how well you potrayed the dark side of Asoka, I am sure that you would have done great justice to the reformed Asoka. Nevertheless, it was a powerful performance, and I remain hopeful that one day more Hindi films will be shot here in New Zealand, perhaps even bringing you to our shores!

Basically I’m a big fan of yours but must say, that I would have seen Swades as a “worthier” entry for the Oscars. My personal opinion is, that Swades is more meaningful and straighter than Pahieli. I doubt whether the key note/message of Paheli as stated in your post will really be seen. If it proves otherwise, I will be happy for you and the Indian film industry. I’m open to conviction. Somewhere down the line we all will know.

Even if it was slammed above, I like Asoka very much. Otherwise I’m rather a fan of comedy and action so that I like “more” watching you in films like Baadschah, BDHH, KKHH, MHN …..

Wish you the cream of the crop
and I keep my fingers crossed

Shahrukh:
Congrates for your film nomination for Oscars. I haven’t seen your film and may be I will not see that movie at all. Normally I do not have patience to see 2.5 or 3 hours long movies. And I do not mix movies with songs So I do not watch desi movies. However that is not my point. My point is since you are famous actor in India ( lot of people told me about you and I believe them) why you are not trying to act in international film, I mean movie for international audience not only for Indians. Even people with heavy and funny ACCENT like Arnold, Jackie chan and so many other Asian stars are trying and they are very successful in Hollywood. I know shekhar kapoor and Manoj Night Shymlan are very successful however they are behind the camera. Why I am Commenting on this topic despite of I do not watch desi movies, Well, it is because most of my non Indian friends always make jokes about Indian movies and Indian dance number which seems gay to them. Well if you want a proof of it watch Lisa Kudrow's HBO series 'Comeback' 2005 series.I know we as Indian have more appeal then any asian actors and Indian accent is also not that funny like Arnold or Jackie Chan’s accent. At least you guy should try to expand your market for non Indian international market also. Or may be that is way you and other Indian actors want to be. I really respect shekhar and Manoj Night Shymlan..They are awesome.I know Kal Pan is doing good in small roles. However it is time for some Indian actor make big entry in to international movie market.

Jignesh

Congrates for your film nomination for Oscars.all the very best and may u win this award(inshallah)

I have not seen Asoka so I will have to see both. Good luck at the Oscars.

I am happy for your love of your success and your appreciation of the impact your mother and other women in your life has had.

For my own life and in my own experience I have learned to be wary of men who talk up their compassion and love of another gender. Usually your life speaks louder than your words. Not being a beautiful woman I start putting on my track shoes when confronted with men who have lived with many beautiful women in their lives.

As Divya said, if you truly love women maybe you will take the opportunity to portray that for younger men to emmulate.

Oh, and the arranged marriage thing. I would never agree to one. Nor, I imagine would most women my age and disposition.

HI MR SHAHRUKH KHAN!!
wnt to say tht ur films r great specially the movies Kuch kuch hota hai, kabhi kushi kabh ghum and more more.i love all u movies tht i have seen.Ur performens in germany was absolutely great i enjoyed.

Folks - Let's curb our enthusiasm a bit. Paheli has *not* been nominated for an Oscar. At least not yet. The nominations are not going to be announced until the end of January.

Each foreign country is allowed to submit one film to compete for the Oscars. India has chosen Paheli as its official entry. That's all. Now it's up to the Oscar nominating committee to select 5 foreign films from the 100's of foreign films that are submitted to it. These 5 films will then compete for an Oscar for Best Foreign Film. So far, Paheli has crossed the tiniest of hurdles - it has been selected by India over all the other Indian films. Whether it can hold its own in an international arena is another story.

Dear Shah Rukh!
I wish you all the best for your plan and I hope you accomplishes your goal.
I'm very touched by your words and I think you are on the right way.
...many times, when I hear a story which brings forth any dimension or a problem that a woman faces in her life, I feel compeeled to partake in that story...
...and many times when we have to face any problems, we get our strength, from you...!
I also think, it has come the time, where people shouldn't smile at Bollywood, but has to take it seriously correctly.
I'll pray that your dreams comes true and hold my fingers crissed that Paheli (a great movie) gets the Oscar...

Love and Regards
Nicole B. / Germany

Hello Shah Rukh Khan,
thanks for these great movies and thanks for producing these great movies. I like Paheli and Asoka very much and many more of your movies like Swades, K3G, KKHH, One 2 Ka 4, Dil Se etc. I wish you and Red Chillies will get the Oscar. You deserve it. Good luck, all the best and a belated Happy Birthday
Supi

Dear Shahrukh Bhai

I have nothing really to say about Paheli, just that I liked it. And I wish you good luck, I hope (like many others) that you may win the Oscar... Inshallah.

Khuda Hafiz

Paheli is a beautiful story.
I have loved it from the beginning.
The fairy tale is beautifully narrated and wonderfully filmed.

Normally I don't have too much belief in the capabilities of the Academy members but as you said:
Some things have to be believed to be seen.
And in your movie I believe without any doubt and with all my heart.

All the best for the nomination and God bless to you and your family.

Hi ShahRukh,
Congrats on the nomination. I am a huge fan and my favorite movie of yours is Koyla. I loved you in that movie. I also am an aspiring filmaker and do believe that India definitely has a chance at the Oscars. If crappy hollywood movies can recieve nominations why not Indian blockbusters? Some of them are far more superior in story content, cinematography and direction than some hollywood movies. Keep the dream alive and we will make it. Inshallah.
I will one day visit India and hopefully make a movie there. {I am secretly {well, not anymore now} obsessed with Rajasthan} Currently I live in Toronto, Canada. I have seen both your shows here and without a doubt you are a performer and an actor first and a star after. I believe that you must have a genuine love for your craft to achieve stardom and you have that quality. Please continue making movies from the heart as they do reach out and touch some of us here who are not familiar with Indian culture but apprecaite it nonetheless. Movies with soul are my passion and please never stop making them. Here's to us winning the Oscars and keeping the dream alive!
Love you,
Shina

I come to this site at least once a day and what a treat it is to find something written here bu the "King" himself. I hope he can also read the emails from this site to know how much he is loved. I am a die-har fan of his and I let his movies speak for itself and I do not pay attention to the media. I always enjoy his movies and always come away with a smile on my face from the cinema. I wish him all the best for the movie Paheli.

Dear Shah Rukh I really wish you all the best for the Oscar nominations of Paheli.
i myself really enjoyed the movie because of how unique and colorful and traditional it was. i really hope the movie really wins atleast some kind of recognition.
all the best!!!

Dear Shahrukh,

...first let me jus explain my extreme excitement about reading your post! It seriously just made my day.

As for Paheli - I thought it was just beautiful. Story aside, screenplay asied it was just such a visual treat. I couldnt be happier that it is going to the Oscars... I just hope the academy sees the beauty we saw -- but even if they dont it doesnt matter because we all loved it.

HAPPY BELATED 40th BIRTHDAY :D :D

I wish you all the best... always!

God bless

I think the second French message also bears translation, so I'm going to have a go:

Can I speak in french, because its hard for me..
so, I had a very difficult childhood, my parents used to fight all the time, and all that kept me going was thinking of you. Shahrukh, you alone who kept my will and desire to live alive, the desire to have a good life, to have plans for the future. I want to thank you for all that hope, love and respect, the beauty that you give people. I'd like to meet you, ..(rest in English again)

Omigod! I have to admit, I'm feeling a bit star struck at the moment! Shah Rukh, you are without a doubt, one of my all time favourite acotrs, pretty much right up there with Mr. Amitabh Bachchan. I love depth of the emotion and sincerity that you bring to your roles. You are fortunate to be doing something that you have a passion/love for (as was the topic of one of Bharat's recent blogs). And I think it's great that you intention is to use your talent and celebrity to make a difference. You have been and Insha Allah will continue to be successful in that intention.
Like Cinda, I loved Veer Zaara and the list goes on. I have not yet seen Paheli (love the tag line) but very much look forward to seeing it and anticipate that it will be terrific! All the best to you in your future endeavors.

ps I would love to hear your views on other subjects as well, something tells me there's a lot of wisdom brewing under there .. do continue to post :)

Regards from Germany... All my friends and me we hope you get the international award with Paheli. It`s a very nice movie and we wish you all the best...

God bless you and your family

Karla

Dear Shahrukh! At first, THANK YOU VERY MUCH for your amazing films, for your unforgetable roles, for your hard work and for all that gladness, love and happiness which brings to our life, to our souls and to our hearts!! I'd like to thank you for such kind of your respect to women. for your attitude to them!
You are a great man! Thank you very much to your mother for such remarkable, wonderful son!!! Your film "Paheli" is so impressive! (Asoka is so smashing film too!) I am very glad that it is nominated for Oscar! It deserves it a lot!
Best of luck to you and good luck to Paheli!!! We are looking forward to you new films!! Please remember that you are loved in Russia very much and your dedicated admirers are looking forward to you here! With best wishes from Moscow

Congratulations Shah Rukh! Good luck with Paheli at the Oscars. I personally loved it. I'm glad it was the one that was chosen.

Pam, for a lot of women in arranged marriages, it's not a choice, it's a way of life. isn't it great that we can actually say "I would never agree to one"? :)

I know that Paheli will get the Oscars,Inshallah.

Shahrukh good luck with Paheli! You should know that in my heart all your movies are Blockbusters even before I see them and they remain so forever after... Happy B'Day, may you rule our hearts always and forever!

In regards to the Oscar... GO GET EM' KING KHAN!!!

Wow! How cool is it to be able to write to SRK? I am an non-Indian who has visited India many times and have fallen in a long-lasting love with the country, culture, and people. The first Indian film I ever saw was Dil to Pagal Hai in Udaipur, during my first trip to India. My mind was closed to Bollywood before seeing that film. I didn't expect to love it. You and your films always evoke a sentimental feeling related to that first trip to you homeland. Your acting in Dil To Pagal Hai inspired me to watch your other films... and then I even checked out movies you weren't in! You are a great cultural amabssador for India. Look forward to seeing Paheli here in Canada. All the best.

SHAHRUKH I LUV U SO MUCH!! This is why I luv you so much. your are so so so so so so sweet! (Also VERY VERY VERY HOT & CUTE AS WELL;) hehe) You care so much about otherz, and I luv that you have a great amount of respect for women (you don't see that in men very much) not just women, but the way to act with everyone around you.

I'v alwayz wondered, how can you alwayz think of the perfect things to say? You always have such a good answer to everyo question your asked, and the thing which always makes your interviewz so fun to read are, that you act like yourself, you dont try to act nicer so people like you more, you are already very very seet the way you are. You alwayz add some jkz into ur interviewz too, which always make itz really enjoyable to read/watch.

I liked Paheli alot, I really like the effects you used in the movie, they are not crappy like the other movies usually have, they were really kool, like you would probably see in the Hollywood movies nowadayz. Also, you looked sooo hot in a moustache;)

I luv you movies, and I hope you keep making more and more movies in the years to come. I hope you, and your family stay really really happy forever (Only Khushi, No Gham), i luv you! and I hope to meet you one day!

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY SHAHRUKH! (you don't look 40 at all!! how do you stay sooo hot! one of the questionz I'v asked myself for years, and stil havn't gotten an answe . . .:

First Off. Happy Belated Bday! Secondly, after reading your post, I think you've won everyone over by the way you put things into perspective and make them understand the reason behind the things that you do. First off, I think Paheli was an excellent film. According to the critics that keep saying you do the same films, this film also served as an answer to those people. I think people expected more of a "real" film, you know the type without magic in it, like you portray in the role of the ghost. People have lost their imaginations and therefore also reacted to the film accordingly. I guess they werent prepared for it.

I think youre outlook on the film industry and the process in which to make films is absolutely genuine and I think that as you progress in your career not only as an actor but also a producer, people will come to understand your outlook more and god willing, youll be making blockbusters every year. Youve taken risks and done films that you believe in. Continue to do so, because if you dont believe in them then you cannot get your fans and the audience to believe in them.

Good luck, continue to dream and may you achieve all the goals you set in life!

Love you!!!!!
Sonal

Speaking as an American who has fallen in love on her own with India and Indian films (even the bad ones, and there are many!), I have to say that I think Paheli is a very accessible movie for Americans (and other westerners) to watch and see what makes India so mysterious and beautiful and compelling. The story is universal -- love is universal, after all! -- and the photography, music, and performances are so beautiful and so uniquely Indian. The film would not work in any other setting or with any other sensibility. I loved it and will be rooting for it wholeheartedly :-)
And by the way, I liked Asoka a lot too (although not as much as I like Paheli)... mostly because you were in it : -D

Very interesting. Paheli is a movie that is much more than meets the eye. I know that as a producer, you have given your all for this movie, and that is what matters most. I hope that Paheli goes far, both nationally and internationally. If the points you have highlighted are what you use in your launch for the movie, I am sure it will go far.

I would also like to thanks you for all of your inspiring hard work over the years. The films your production houses have generated over the years have all had an underlying moral or principle behind them, which not only makes them entertaining, but also thought-provoking. We need more of these kinds of movies around today.

Lots of Love

Anita Ramakrishna

Hey,

You can catch a review of "Paheli" on "www.mybindi.com"

Dear SRK
In my opinion Paheli for Oscar is excellent choice.I love most of your movies. And for me you are the best actor in the world.I don't think any one in hollywood can come even close to you in acting or even in look too.
I recomended one of my american co-worker to see Paheli. Him and his girl freind loved it very much.I hope and pray God that Oscar will go to Paheli!!!!
with lots of love
Kusum from New Jersey

Hey Shahrukh Khan,
I think that you are a great actor and a great producer. i think your respect for us women is great. I really love You a lot and good luck in everything you do. Allah will protect you forever!

Hey!

You are gratest in the whole world. I wish you the all the best for the future.

So...Shar Rukh,
I can just imagine you reading through all of these comments and attempting a reply :) GOOD LUCK! This blog is beginning to take on the appearance of a Fan Club.
Hopefully, we would not scare you off and you might find it interesting enough intellectually and spiritually in our exchanges. If you read through some of the other topics, you'd know what I mean.
Outside of all the pRAISE coming your way, this is a most informative and discovering venue to visit, even if once a week or so. Personally, I find the dialogue refreshing as most who post here speak the raw truth...no one seeking wealth or glory, just telling it like it is!

Love and prayers to you for your future endeavours.

Talk to you soon,

Cinda

Hi Shah Rukh,

Thanks for your post. I have watched all your films right from 'Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman' to 'Paheli'. You have really come a long way! I liked 'Paheli', though like many others, I too think that you have done much better films than 'Paheli'.

You have always made films that you believed in and wished to make. I applaud you for that. I loved your films 'Dil Se' and 'Asoka', out of which 'Asoka' was your own production. So what if they weren't Super hits. It is good to see that a star like you is willing to step out of the box, leave your comfort zone (i.e. films like DDLJ, KKHH etc.) and experiment. Having said that, however, I also believe that superstars like Mr. Amitabh Bachchan and you have such a larger than life image in the minds of the viewers, that the character you portray gets overshadowed by your star image...Just a downside of superstardom, I guess :)

Anyways, keep up the good work and all the best for the Oscars. I love to see how much you enjoy your stardom, because you truely deserve every bit of it!

Wish you good health and many more years of super stardom.

Shikha.

Hi King Khan,

I hope one day you get to read this. Happy 40th Belated B-Day, your not getting older, your getting wiser and sexier. Honestly I have not seen Paheli but for the reviews and storyline I have read it sounds great. Also the pictures I have seen make it look even more great, Rani and you have great chemistry at least from my point of view. I hope and pray with all my heart that Paheli does make it to the oscars and wins. I first came to know of you in 2002 when I watched Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, I immediately fell head over heels for you. From that movie I fell in love with Bollywood and with you as an actor. The way you transmit all those emotions, if you cry I cry with you, if you laugh I laugh, etc. I love your crying scenes the most. I like other Bollywood actors but you were the first. All this is coming from a non indian girl but a mexican-american who loves you dearly and has learned to love India through your movies. All my best wishes to you and your family. Write to me someday at sad_girl07@yahoo.com hahahaha I guess I am waiting for a miracle.

Love Always,
Liz from the USA

Shah Rukh, maybe you are underestimating the Indian Film Industry…as good as it gets? Not jolly likely…it is FAR BETTER! Since watching Hindi movies, I now know what BAD ACTING is…and it’s NOT Hindi movies! Whenever I watch movies or TV from the West now (rarely, I admit) I think…man, that is PATHETIC!

ASOKA was the best movie I ever saw in my life and I still get goosebumps everytime I hear the eery, haunting opening notes…a movie way ahead of its time. PAHELI, in my opinion, follows very closely behind. I even prefer PAHELI to DEVDAS (another masterpiece).

PAHELI has all the elements of the Indian Film Industry that we, as Westerners, most love and expect of Hindi movies…the culture, vibrant colours, exquisite costumes, song and dance, family values, magnificent architecture, etc. I hope you never feel the need to pollute the genre to pander to the baser tastes of a minority of Westerners.

I am always impressed by your candour and integrity – you leave yourself so vulnerable and show great courage, which is very endearing. God bless you for your brave heart. You should be commended for your commitment to bringing the Indian Film Industry to the world…and not just working for your own Glory.

May PAHELI be the movie to achieve all that you desire, Insha’Allah.

PS I love your Tiger Eyes, but I am hopelessly addicted to SK Silver!

Thank you Shah Rukh, you make my heart smile

with loving vibes from Australia
Sandi

Hi Shah Rukh, amazed by your acting ability! I have a request- will be happy if you make the Bengali film "BAKSHO BADAL" that Satyajit Ray made long time back with Aparna Sen and Soumitro Chatterjee, in Hindi.

Most have to see to believe..the blessed few believe in what is yet to be seen..the ones who have faith..the ones who know themselves to be a 'zariya'..na koi leta hai aur na koi deta hai..isi liye to jo mann ka ho to achcha, aur jo mann ka na ho to aur bhi achcha....to be an obedient instrument of a transcendent will is a little more than fusing the acts of worship, action and contemplation in the fulfillment of one's daily duty..it transcends all three by virtue of a higher consciousness..a consciousness of acting passively..a zariya..

i love your thought process, just penning my appreciation..

lovenhug..radhu chal sadhu

What is wrong with people? Why is SRK so overrated?
I watched Paheli because it was directed by Amol Palekar.
He does not have time to reply to any of these comments. (What an egoistic person)
Paheli has no chance being nominated for Oscar foreign film category.
I liked the film but couldn't digest when a woman gets pregnant by a ghost.

Dear Shah Rukh

When I first watched Indian movies, I had to learn to accept two things that were significantly different from western films: Indian films' length, and their dance sequences (if these were cut out, most Indian movies would be only a little longer than western films).

At the time, I was very depressed, due to having lost some family members. My one solace was Indian films. I ignored books, American movies, television, but watched Indian films several times a week for about a year and a half. To explain my new "habit" to teasing friends, I told them that Indian movies were preventing me from going too deep into my depression, through their portrayal of family values, emotional openness, resiliance, and deep layers of culture, and the dance sequences, which feel like bursts of sun on a stormy day.

In America, we seem to have lost much of the tradition of celebration in dance in popular media. We have hysteria in club dancing, and formal celebration and quiet joy in live dance in theaters (ballet, modern, jazz, ethnic), but there's very little dance in American movies.

Also, American films' portrayal of family and personal emotions and drama is overwhelmingly much less deep, complex and organic than it is in Indian films.

It's these very differences in Indian movies that made them so healing to me. American film is as distanced from the underlying realities of life, as Americans' daily lives are often insulated by wealth (relative to other economies) and technology.

My parents grew up in the Great Depression and World War II. They had a strong sense of what real life was about, and passed that on to me. In reality, death and disaster lurks in every moment of all of our lives. It's only a matter of luck, common humanity and the universal spirit (which we label as this and that religion) that, each day, allows most of us another day to survive.

I think it's probably no coincidence that the last time that dance was a big part of American movies was in the Great Depression and World War II. Dance in popular media is a mirror of the audience's need to celebrate its survival of one more day, with joyous song and dance. If whole generations of people are in denial of the difficulties of life, as many American are, they feel no obvious need to see emotion, song and dance in the films they watch. Americans are focused on more, better, and younger, and deny what Indian movies do not hide: The fact that life is ultimately lethal for each of us, and that each day should be a celebration for each of us, and on behalf of our fellow human beings.

American audiences will need something special to lower their resistance to the joys of Indian cinema. If they do, I feel that they will have an emotional healing due to what they they see and experience in Indian film, as I did.

It's a wonderful thing that you are interested in having Indian movies accepted by western audiences. It was your very vibrant presence in the first Indian films I watched, that opened me up to wanting to see more. I did not understand so much of what I was watching. Now, I can listen to a Hindi film and follow about 50% of the story without reading the subtitles, and I understand a little Tamil, too. I get some of the verbal wit and jokes, and can tell when a relationship is getting closer, etc. My understanding of India's traditions and cultures is very shallow, but I "get" so much more now than I did in 2002 when I saw my first Indian films, when my boss lent me two DVD's. The first was Lagaan, which was excellent, but it wasn't until I watched the second, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, that I wanted to see more, all due to your presence in that film. Yours were the first Indian films I sought out to rent, and then to buy.

Your presence, your humanity and intelligence, which vibrates in all your performances, can bridge Americans into Indian film.

Last night I watched Paheli again, and tried to watch it as I was in 2001, when I knew nothing about the art form that is Indian Cinema. Some of the other posts have mentioned Paheli's accessiblity, magic, beauty, and effects (great color, too). True. But what spoke more to me, as an American looking with partially "new eyes", was your strength in your dual roles in Paheli.

Your presence and performances bridged me into Indian film, and I hope you will do the same for many other Americans and westerners, and particularly at this time, the Oscars foreign film jury. Yet, if not this year, than another. I'm confident that you will be successful in bringing Indian film, as it is, to the western world. An ambassador you are, in truth.

Good luck to you again!

Heather

Hi Shah Rukh! First and foremost, I would like to wish you Happy 40th Belated Birthday. I must say that you doesn't look 40 to me. Congratulations on Paheli being chosen as India's entry for the Oscars. I admire the way you express your thoughts regarding the film and the spirit you show in promoting the film. IMO, Paheli is a wonderful film. I watched it 3 times in the theatre. I knew the film is based on the novel "Duvidha" and is a Rajasthan's folktale. That's the reason I enjoyed it so much. Technically, the film is brilliant. I liked everything about the film; the cinematography, culture, songs & dances, costumes, action, special effects, beautiful sets, direction and performance. IMO, this film has a good chance at the Oscars because it represents India and it's culture in a true sense. Here's wishing Paheli all the best and a lot of success at the Oscars. Inshallah it will win India an Oscar which it truly deserved. I hope you will continue working hard to acheive your unfulfilled desire and pray that you'll get the worldwide recognition through your films because all of us know that no one deserve it better than you. You're the best and I love you so much.
Love,
Sofie (Malaysia)

So...Shah Rukh,
I can just imagine you reading through all of these comments and attempting a reply :) GOOD LUCK!

Cinda

Hopefully you will read this - I am a huge fan of yours, My American husband bought tickets for Asoka Premier as a surprise for me, we went to the party before the movie and waited and waited for you to show up - hrs later you showed up amid a flurry of people and since everyone was waiting for hours to see you it was quite chaotic. We ended up leaving the party and watching the movie which I enjoyed very much as I do all your films. Your Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was my husband's Intro to Hindi movies and though it had no subtitles he endured it for my sake. We now have it on DVD and he claims that it is one of his alltime favorite movies rating just as high as "Dirty Harry". Since Kuch Kuch Hota Hai has such strong meaning for both of us (he cries whenever we watch it) we named our miracle baby "Anjali". I am your lifelong fan, I am also happy that my husband likes you, your movies and your acting as we watch all your movies together. Thru your movies I can teach something about India and its culture to my American family and friends. They actually ask to borrow your movies.
I really don't care about the politics behind why you make movies and wether people think you are doing a great job or not, Just keep making and acting in them!!! My only contact with you is thru your films and I want to see many more!!. Paheli is a wonderful film with great color and picturization rightfully so since it is based on a folklore. You did a great job in Paheli in acting and producing it. Sould you win an oscar great!! and if not... you'd still be Shah Rukh Khan - Loved by Millons for who you are and what you do!!! Thank you & Lots of luck forever!!

Dear Shah Rukh
Thank you for your post. I was lucky enough to be at the Paheli press conference in London. Your passionate and persuasive championing of Paheli and Hindi cinema in general left a lasting impression. It was a privilege and an education to see you in producer- rather than star- or actor-mode. Since then I have seen the film 3 times on the big screen and even noted some differences in the sub-titling at the different venues - but maybe I am believing something I didn't actually see here!!
But at the press conference if my memory serves me correctly (a BIG IF) you said that Paheli was not the film to take Hindi cinema global. Now it looks as though it might well do that or make a very significant contribution - I hope you really enjoy eating those words.
Good luck with Paheli
Keep doing what you do
Best
Glenda

I wish Paheli all the luck at the oscars because it is a short and simple movie. I found it quite traditional and different to the other movies. Shahrukh you was fantastic in the movie along with Rani and hope this film does get recognized by others. Looking forward to Kabhi Alvidaa Na Kehna.

ok, do you have any idea how much i love you? i've grown up with hindi movies but never really seemed to harbor deep appreciation for any of them. apparently it comes with my critical nature. i'd seriously have to doubt, however, which film of yours i could possibly not have seen...and loved (kal ho naa ho remains a personal favorite). i know you put in a lot of effort to bring entertainment to your audiences--and believe me, you have. by far. i don't think i could ever find the words to express how much your screen presence really signifies. paheli was an amazing movie. and you really needn't justify (not that you are) why you chose to produce such a film--it was most original and grounbreaking in its own terms. if by any chance of miniscule probability you've made it to the end of this comment, i'd really like to wish you the best for all your future endeavors.

you honestly don't look 40.

salaam ...shahrukh khan
from the butoom of my heart i speak when i say that i love you , i know it is just a word you hear everyday from a fan or two , but it means alot to me when i say it out loud becouse its from a heart that sat still for 3 years waiting for a chance to express its love for you i feel like i know the person beaneth the good looking actor whic is enriching my love for you .
anshallah i see you in kuwait
my friend love you also is sara and hamsah and me

i've seen one of ur many movies before (devdas), and looking forward to seeing paheli. ur acting and singing r beyond splendor...THEY'RE TREMENDOUS!!!! u happen to be one of my fave actors (even surpassing the ones in hollywood). may god continue to bless u and ur lovely family.

Salaam Shahrukh,
First of all happy birthday and many many congrates for the nomination of paheli for Ocars...yeah i will pray for paheli inshallah it will win. Good Luck
I LOVE YOU!!

Hi Shah Rukh
It's dat really you!!! I can't believe it. Well I am from Singapore and I have been your fans eversince I watched you in Maya Memsaab in 1993 and followed by Darr in the same year. I juz loved the way u bring out your characters alive in screen. Since then, I enjoyed all your movies even the bad ones. I watched all your concerts in Singapore, never missed any one of them. Juz love all the concerts u had done in Singapore. When will you come to Singapore for a concert? U are simply the greatest actor of all time. Take care of ur health ok

I saw Paheli, since my previous post here, and i am convinced that your post was genuine, shahrukh.

dearest shahrukh,

i cant believe you posted on a blog! thats totally cool. actually, i dont know if you've heard of the movie Garden State (you should check it out-- its a small independent film but was a big success), but the main actor in that has had a blog for a long time now. i think its such a great way to show the people that even you, a big filmstar and all, care about your fans and are in fact just a normal person.
anyway, ive loved all your work and i especially like it when something different is done. some of your films i feel have not deserved the credit they should have gotten (dil se.., asoka). keep on doing excellent work. you will always be my #1 man!
i love you so much! (since i was 10 yrs old haha- dont get freaked out now..) i came to india this past summer and saw your house hehe, but im not a stalker so dont worry.
wow, ive written too much already-- i hope you actually read these comments.. that would be way cool.

Peace & love always,
Preetika
Houston, TX

PS- i hope you had a great bday! best wishes to you and your family

Dear SRK,
It is NOT cool of you to have not replied (either individually or collectively)to hundreds of messages that you have received on this blog. Was your post just a one off to promote Paheli's Oscar nomination? I understand that you are a very busy star, but you can always blog in your car while travelling to shoots or whenever you find a little bit of leisure time. I suggest you can post one msg per week at least. It will be therapeutic for you too. LOL. When you are at the top, you need to stay connected with your fan base. You can take a leaf out of Amitji's book who replies to every message that he receives (well almost, wink) either personally or through his secretary.

I understand that you are scheduled to be in Doha, Qatar on the 16th of November alongwith Ash for some Store Launch or something. When will you be back? I am coming to Bombay on the 16th for househunting as I'm shifting my residence there. Will be there for a week. As I told you earlier, I have a written a movie script which I'd like you to hear, so it'd be great if we can fix up an appointment. Pls contact me at cosmicsuperstar@gmail.com Hope we can work together soon.

Cheers!
Navin

Thank you Shah Rukh Khan for all your excellent movies, your hard work and best acting from Deewana till Paheli & Naturally your own production along with your best friends Aziz Mirza, Farah Khan, Karan Johar, Juhi etc. I have seen paheli six times and I really admire your character, act& action on camel race. Inshahullah Paheli will win the Oscars and of course It did well in oversea box office, So wish you be successfull in each step of your life and plz don't forget your fans around the world like me and others we really pray for you five times even I don't do it for myself. plz you organize some concerts in Kabul,Afghanistan and keep your hard work for always.

Alots of luck and success

Your prayer

Dear Shahrukh Jaan,
Happy Birthday Again!
I am very excited that Paheli is on the road for the Oscars, if only for the exposure Bollywood, and especially your movies, can get. I am glad you are putting all your effort in promoting Paheli.Your humility does not allow you to admit that you have been a positive force in the transformation of Hindi Cinema and thus all world cinema, by extension. Once world audiences get a taste of the heart and soul in Hindi cinema, all other cinema will appear bland.
It is true that the avantgarde choice of movies, by you and by your production companies has made a shift in the types of movies made in Bollywood(I know you don't like this name). It has taken courage to make these choices, we know and the audience appreciates it. Many in the world still have a skewed view of Bollywood movies, and can't get past the songs and even the subtitles. They miss the forest for the tree. But some day you will convert even the staunchest opponents, through your honesty and generosity and Truth.
Your choice of movies have certainly shown the world a whole new face of India also. Where as many successful movies depicting India would show what seems to be wrong and needs fixing, many of the important movies you have chosen to do, show the Indian culture in its glory. They have shown what life can be like in India , and even the world, when one emphasizes the positive and inspires people to be their best. Focusing on the beauty allows humans to remember who they are and can be, and therefore change their world to reflect it. Whether it relates to women's rights or religious tolerance, World peace or even just being true to one's feelings, your movies have made their mark and have moved generations of viewers across the world.
Film is certainly a powerful medium and movies are certainly effective messages to society and the world. The Planet needs more messenger like yourself, who are not motivated my EGO, and who are true to the cause of humanity. Because your intentions are good, your message will be heard load and clear, and will have the effect desired in the end. I am sure you will take advantage of this opportunity and use this stage to make the mark you are destined to make!
Please continue your efforts and never give way to discouragement!
May God Bless you and guide you!

With Love and Respect,
Vida

Dear Shahrukhji,

I dont know what the world says about Paheli, but I just loved the movie, not because of the director or the story but it is because you were there in the movie. It was simply superb. I dont think any other actor deserves what you are today. You are simply superb. You are God's made child. I pray god gives you happiness, success and everything you want. May all your movies be super duper hit.

Last but not the least, my predition is that, you will get the oscar for paheli. All the best.

Shahrukh,
I did enjoy Paheli, but my favourite still remains Swades. I think you were your natural best in that film, there wasn't a single frame which looked like it was acting. It was actually you. I suppose Paheli is being nominated not for your acting, but for an overall effect.
I do wish you luck at the Oscars for Paheli.
Regards and salaams.

Badshah saheb, saadgi mein hi khoobsurati hoti hai aur aap ki filmein ham sab ko isiliye acchi lagti hain. paheli acchi film thi lekin hollywood wale logon ko shayad pasand nahin aayegi kyonki unka movie banane ka aur dekhne ka dhang alag hai phir bhi ham sab ki shubhkamnayen aap ke saath hain. oscar mile na mile karodon logon ko to pasand aayi hai to oscar kya cheez hai! bhagvan kare ki aap aisi hi pyaar bhari filmein banate rahen and junta ke dilon mein khushi aur hansi late rahen!

Hi Shah Rukh,

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS, for all the love and praise coming your way through this blog. You're a good human and you deserve every bit of it.

As far as Paheli is concerned, i think that movies are essentially channels of communication... for getting across ideas, thoughts, statements...visually. Film-making is a wonderful means of expressing yourself creatively. It offers you a lot of liberty in terms of creative possibilities. And I must say, the special effects used in the movie, are appreciable. The fictional tone of the movie obviously lended an opportunity to incorporate special effects, but the challenge lies in making it good. And the way the 'ghost'appears and disappears in the movie, or transforms into a beautiful bird, is worth applauding. As a budding CG Artist myself, it definitely appealed to me.

A lot of movies (Hollywood), have far better special effects and animation, but, considering that animation and special effects still hasn't found its real hold in Bollywood, I think Paheli offers a reasonably good show!

Best Wishes to you!

Shilpa.

Dear Shahrukh,
your abillity to get things done fast and good and only on one day where others would need a week is amazing and so your abillity to get all the passion you have for movies into one film.
Im sure it´s sometimes not easy to fit in a character but so far you managed it perfectly.
And we can see it in your films and so in paheli. It´s a very sweet and nice story. Let´s say it´s a fantastic fary tale. And that it is nominated for the best foreign film is just justified. So I really liked your post because it´s very honest and you say what you want to say and why.
Very good.
Ok. That´s all.
All the best to you and your family.
Keep that great energy you have.
And keep on the good work.

I´m really kind of proud. I don´t know why. *he he he*

Dearest Shahrukh,

Believing is indeed half the key to realising a dream. The 2nd half to accomplishing it lies in an honest prayer. Whatever the outcome may be, it's the journey that makes the dream a success....the goal or the destination is an added bonus.

Interestingly, the 'invisible' has much in it that can affect or alter our lives. Such is the case even in your movie 'Paheli'. I must thank you for doing this movie. We do not realise it but many of us are in need of a 'mind opener' that can unleash us from our current outlook of things around us. Paheli provide us that chance to look at things with a new pair of eyes. I have a somewhat different interpretation of Paheli.Such is the beauty of a folklore. It doesn't just confine you to just one tale.To me Paheli reunites the two essence of being alive-the man & the soul.I look at the ghost as the lost soul or love of a man. Man tends to get methodical & lost in the the chase of the world if he does not unite the soul within him. It is only with the soul that one gets to see the hidden beauty of life...and it is with this soul that one loves & appreciates another..and it is with this soul that one then really starts to live. For a tale that is as old as time, it is infact very much intune with out modern world. Many a time we are lost in the chase that we forget what really matters.

My dearest Shahrukh, my prayers & love are always with you. May you continue to work in this noble way & work hard in what you believe in. Insya Allah, success is already yours...In fact, your real oscar is in all of us...the physical oscar is of course the added bonus :)

Lots of Love always,
Zuraida

Dear Sharukh

It was charming to read blog from you. Most of the time we hear you from some interviewer etc. who have there own way of expression. So it was zestful to have some thoughts from you without any intermediator. We by heart support your logic for promoting Paheli.Hope to bring Paheli a huge success at international podium. Wish the hole film production unit best of luck.

Dear Shah Rukh Khan!

I have read your blog. It was an interesting read. I personally liked Paheli v.much and watched the movie more than two times. I was happy for its selection as official indian entry into the oscars.

I have read your plans for the promotion and liked them. As I don't have any experience on this aacount, I can't comment but they look good to me. I pray for you to win the oscar. I am a member of shahrukhkhan.org.

day(2th nov)and many-many other further days.
Warm regards.

Dear Shri SRK, Will defenitely see Paheli. I happened to see your interview in NDTV on your birthday. The honesty and sense of purpose you displayed there is visible to me in your writing which like every thing else you do ,you do with passion. Stopping smoking is a good resolution which you indicated in your interview. I do believe, you will succeed and go on to represent India abroad with your cinema. Good Luck. SM

Shah Rukh, you are as good a writer as you are an actor ! Loved reading your thoughtful, lucid and well-crafted article. I saw 'Paheli' twice and got even more out of the second viewing than the first. It is a sweet, sensitive and warm tale and I can't imagine anyone not reacting to the fabulous colours and textures in the film. I do appreciate your broader vision in promoting the entire industry through this film. It's a pity your critics do not seem to realise that if 'Paheli' wins, India wins. Good luck and God bless.

Hi sharuk ji
after watching paheli i could only think of one thing n that's u have been taken for ride by shri Amol Palakar ji

be careful about the directors u choose

i am from Rajasthan born bought up and----- all here
yet could never ever get that felling of marwari in the entire movie, may be you should have interected with any of those typical marwai before doing that role,
anyways u know better then me what to do
so as usual u would come up with that typical yashraj or karan johar movie again to wash this thing
and again go around charing someone's girlfriend or to be wife

Hi ShahRukh
You may not like to be reminded that you are a year older, but that not going to keep me from saying °¨HapPy BirthdaY¨°.
May allah Bless you and we all pray for the sucsess of Paheli..
I wish you all the luck in the world.
You have my warmest wishes for a happy and successful year.

Hi SRK!

Dear Shahrukh

I envoy your greatness. When I was young I thought to make it big although I am still struggling. But humality of very very successful persons like you inspires me.

You are considered the superstar, the God of Indian film industry. I also liked you in many films - you were quite natural in most of them and that is your real acting strength. My favourite, though, is VEER-ZARA - it will be difficult for you to surpass the milestone you established in the role of a jailed-mature lover - a marvellous acting.

Now your criticism. Still I feel it would be too early to call you all time great. You still need to do a lot of hard work to establish yourself to be called 'one of the greatest actors' in the history of Indian cinema. But you have the mettle, the strength - choose your projects with more care.

Wishing you whole-heartedly. May God bless you with greater future.

Sincerely
Anandrahi

Dear Shahrukh,

I watched your movie "SWADES" and was impressed by your performance. I am yet to see your movie "Paheli". One of the problems in metros these days the films do not last more than few weeks in Multiplex.

All the best to you for OSCARS.

h! shahrukh (if u read this)
Actually i m not ur fan.and i dont see ur movies dis does not mean that u r not a good actor but actually likes and dislikes, attitude, nature etc of a person leads him/her to choose clothes, shoes, cars and ofcourse person he/she wants to see.so frankly speaking i believe that u should be much more appreciated if u do some roles and movies out of your old style and with new directors because then only you can get different characters to perform.i think i am the first to say dis in this section but it is a truth and you should accept it.
At last i want to say that my favourite actor is AAMIR KHAN.

Dear Shahrukh
May God bless you ever always ! Paheli was a poem of Love ... that's all I can say, as the sheer beauty of your words and thouhgts prevents me from saying more! I saw it thrice [ I see ALL your films thrice in the theatre ] and sent a review to Filmfare praising it [ ofcourse it was never published!].I think why you touch our hearts is that you act to GIVE JOY to all who see you and that passion/bliss is transmitted to them ! My mom sees her grandson in you, I see my son, my niece sees her lover and my son sees a friend ! Live On and continue to do everything DIL SE and the world will keep loving you FOREVER !It's the ecstasy of the moment when you touch our lives that sustains you and us when all else fails and falls 1!

hey shahrukh,
After reading the honest explanation about the paheli(which people needed badly because they expected a mohan bhargav to fight the race of oscars) i am convinced but whether the judges in the acadmy awards will be convinced seems to be very difficult.
Keep doing experiment because people like u because u do the things differently and Inshaa Allah u will get an oscar(my wishes with you)
Bhushan

hi , Shah Rukh

Firstly , a happy belated birthday to you !
May all your wish come true .
I am your little fan from Malaysia , I was surprise when I saw this blog , but after reading it , I have only one thought , you're not only a great actor but an excellent writer , Paheli was great , best of luck in the Oscars !
I heard you're considering to quit smoking after your 40th birthday , is it true ? Well , I wish you all the best , you must quit it , because it is a very very bad habit .:P

your little chinese fan ,
Mun Yin Lin

Dear Shah Rukh,
Happy belated 40th birthday!
Only a star as great as you would take the time to sit and write a blog for all of his fans to read. It just confirms that you are not only a wonderful actor, but also a truly genuine and caring human being. I know you're currently shooting for your next film in New York and New Jersey (my home) and I've wanted to come meet you so many times to wish you a happy birthday in person but never had the opportunity to make my dream come true. I would do almost anything just to meet you!! But I wish you and the entire Paheli team the best of luck. Your Oscar win would make countless people even more proud to call themselves a fan of yours.

Kindest regards,
Shivani

Hey Shah Rukh,
Its feel good that Paheli is in Oscar House. I saw the movie, it was for me indian traditional fare. But for me out there people appreciate those movie which are really outstanding. For me that was BLACK & SWADES. Swades was really a gem for india. It naturally spoke the voice of indians. If compare Paheli was just a creation, while Swades was reality and eyes that need to be opened for evry indians. Black i'll say was totally performance. Performance and script which not always get mix in every movie, but Bhansali is the only one who can do that. But all is past, if you really want that paheli wins an oscars, make evry one watch there, do all?.

Thanks

Hello ShahRukh,

The color and vibrancy of earthy India comes across beautifully on the canvas that is "PAHELI". Gentle & heart warming in it's rendering, it has been a joy to watch over & over again. You are right,... the music in it's simplicity..like "Parineeta"'s, takes a tad longer to familiarize itself after the cacophony of modern day tunes !
As part of an active diaspora of Indians here in California, what is it that we can do to help you promote this film from now to Oscar time? Many heads do work better than one(even with that big Turban on it :) ),
With fond wishes to you, your family and your team.......
FIROZA

Hello ShahRukh,
Belated happy b'day.palahi is really good movie.may god bless u so u make such type of movie again and again.one thing i really like about your movie is that it give's a taste of indian culture.
you made another good movie in past "Phir bhi dil hai hindustani".congs for that.
keep it up.

hello.mr. shahrukh khan. how are you?

hello.mr. shahrukh khan. how are you?

hello.mr. shahrukh khan.

hiii shahrukh!!!!
Happy belated birthday.
Congratulation for Paheli and I hope that it will choosing for the oscar foreign films.I am sorry for my english but my first language is french.Paheli for me is a very beautiful film and i like it very much same with Asoka.
I finish in french with my apologie(excuse).
Je croise tres fort les doigts et insh allah!! you'll win.Je sais que vous etes en tournage actuellement à New York, alors bon courage pour la suite.

Hi Mr. Khan,
I just wanted to tell you that one thing I did not like about recent Bollywood movies, was that...The Name that was been put up at the time of casting, had been in English and Hindi only. Whereas, when we take a look at all of the hindi movies in the past we saw them been displayed in Hindi, Urdu, and then English. In MAIN HOON NA, I saw that you rekindled that spirit of unity in the Hindi films, though not Really important, but I thought it was necessary to show the rest of the world that we were all ONE. And what's more, I was impressed to see that The Name MAIN HOON NA, was shown in all the other Indian languages too. Thanks for doing that, Sir.
Thanks a lot.

ShahRukh

Dear Shah Rukh Khan,

Congratulations for Paheli. If you believe, with all the determination and willpower you possess, I have no doubt that Paheli will make it at the Oscars.

I live in Switzerland and there have been a lot of your movies on German TV. Everytime one of your DVDs gets released after the TV showing, it gets into the top 10. As you may have heard, people over here are going crazy over your films. I think it has a lot to do with life in the West (and subsequently the movies that are produced) lacking "heart and soul". Your movies and, to some extent, Hindi movies in general, could fulfill the awakening need for more heart/love in this world. So yes, the world needs Bollywood and I hope Indian cinema gets better known.

I also want to take this opportunity to express my thanks to you for helping to open my own heart again. After my marriage went awry, I withdrew into my shell and cut myself off from my emotions (which tend to be pretty strong at times!). After watching you in K3G, I walked around for days with the feeling of being madly in love, of having that “cup runneth over” feeling. I am able to sustain this joyousness and feel very much more alive and in touch with my dreams and passions again. If, at times, I do flag, all I need do is get my “fix” by watching a DVD ...

From all my heart, thank you!

Louise

Dear Shah Rukh,
Yes, you are one of the reasons that I am not so depressed. It has been a rough year and a half for me as I am going through a divorce but whenever I am down I watch one of your movies and I feel happy. I own most of your movies and it’s worth it. No wonder you are loved by so many all over the world. Hope you continue to give all your fans happiness for a long time. Wish you all the best.
Love and regards,
Esther.

dear shah rukh..

Inimitable MR.Shahrukh~Khan,

Just don't be frantic about PAHELI, your efforts are not going to be ended up in smoke at all.

I am Sadiq from Pakistan. We are deparately waiting for your arrival in Pakistan. Now I have came across different speculations that you are coming to visit Pakistan shortly. Is this a rumor or is it really going to work?

All the best for your tremendous future ~!~

May Allah bless you and yourz,

SADIQ...

you are the best of allllllllllllllllllllllllllllll.
Wish you the very very very bet of luccccccccccccccck that you win the Oscars.
Your story was original, the acting was original and everything alse was original, it wasn't a copr or an inspiration of a Hollywood flick!!! like most of the other Indian films releasing these days, so you bother you will win it.

As an American, I am particularly delighted that Paheli was chosen and wish he and the film much luck. Indian cinema can do very well here if it receives more attention, and I think some of the best Indian films are SRK films. He's a better *actor* than he gets credit for being, sometimes. And obviously, [insert ridiculous school girl swooning and squealing here].

What a nice treat to read his blog entry, makes me look forward to that book he's supposed to be writing. And now, I'm off to pout about SRK, Rani, Karan, etc. being in NYC to film and myself being too far to visit. What about Cape May as a location guys? Cape May's nice! *pout*

ALLAH HAFIZ!
MAY U LIVE LONG! AMIN!!

Hi SRK.

I always wanted to say this..

you are shrewd

Everyone was expecting "Black" for oscar and with you having dinner with priyanka gandhi(with husband..vadehra) ..changed it to pehli.

Also relationship bwt gandhi family and bacchans are known to every one...and you exploited it so well. And got ur film to oscar.

Abt Pehli,i feel..it was light entertaining movie..and it was not so bad.But one request...can u give expressions in different format???TRy it..belive me it will work.

Hi...

...true, u believe hence u see...one cannot see God to believe in Him! This embodies the entire philosophy of my life...the theory of karma, dharma, rebirth-in short the essence of the soul in its' journey thru eternity...

...then the portrayal of a woman's emancipation thru "Paheli" or a blind person's feelings thru "Black" (both laudable attempts),both deserve kudos as per my belief!

...and as for the Oscars, if it's an Indian film that get's it, well we deserve the international status as we believe in celebrating life thru its' ups and downs!

Right,Shahrukh?
Cheers and God Bless!

Dear Shahrukh,
Assalam-o-Alaikum,
i hope u will fine.I m very happy that paheli wins oscar awards.this film is natrual with indian culture.i love u n yr all film.thanks.i m adil from pakistan.

hi
do you honestly think Paheli deserved an entry into Oscar this year ?

Especially when we had a more deserving movie like Black which could have represented India in the foreign language category ?

I have watched all your movies and I thought your best work was in Devdas - by the same director as Black .

Choose better scripts which take the Indian Cinema forward .

Dont be stuck in the 70's and 80's.

Oh , you are remaking DON I hear :-)

Best of luck
Mohit Maheshwari

Hi Shahrukh,

Anything u do is different and anything u say becomes a rage, I have seen you from the days of FAUJI to the SRK in Paheli.

The journey u have made is simply mind boggling.

Being one of ur fan rather than saying that way I can say ur follower some times.

All I can say is Paheli is a good film that depicts Indianism very good and a different folk story. It was nice and all the best to you for the Oscars.

Again all the best .

Mohit: Black is a remake of an old Hollywood film called "The Miracle Worker". Also it doesn't fit in "foreign language" category because it's in English (not a foreign language in America).

Dear Shahrukh,
I am a Catholic American who just discovered your movies this summer. I pray you get the Oscar for Paheli. You have been overlooked in our country for too long. I almost have all your movies now and am buying them as gifts for my loved ones. Everyone that watches them falls in love with you! Take care of yourself. You are more important than you know. You bring light into so many lives.

Hi SRK,
Best of luck on Paheli, I am sure Paheli will win the Oscar, because u have such a strong believe in urself as actor and Paheli as ur home production.

hi, shahrukh
i watched ur movie twice, but i found something lacking in the movie. but it was a nice and hard effort i can see in making of movie. it was something different as like ur movies. music was quite weak, but costumes was atractive. truely, i was a fan of all ur costumes.according to myself,if SWADESH was sent to oscar, it was quite better. anyway, best ofluck to ur movie and i pray to god to make all ur wishes true, soon.

I absolutly adore you shahrukh khan, not only because i am your fan but because you are such a nice human being. Keep up with your rightous and Allah will help you to acheive whatever you want to acheive in your life. if paheli did not won, it will be oscar's lose not your's.

hi srk
happy birthday and may u live long. i watch paheli on dvd. i analyze the movie interms of different aspects i-e story, script, music, performances, direction, editing etc. and come to the conclusion that appatentely all things seems to be perfect but something is really missing that is the hurdle in the way of winning oscar even nominating. very frankly when i heard about paheli's nomination for oscar, i was very very surprised not because of this, why black was not nominated but because of, why paheli has been nominated. also very frankly, when i watch this movie first time, i can never say even think that it is a women issue based movie. when i heard from resources that it is a women issue based movie and it was nominated for oscar, i decided to watch the movie again. but by searching a lot, that kind of issue can never be found. possibly, there is a minor touch of this "flovour" not more than 1 or 2 percent ( it is my view after knowing the "reality" that it is a women issue based movie). so when the base which is urs strong point, is so weak how u can expect it for winning oscar.
all my reviews abt the movie are on the view point of oscar. but as a common viewer, i like paheli and must watch it again and again. anyway i pray for paheli winning oscar.
another point to be mentioned, why it was said that rani has acted so well but no body has mentioned abt srk's stunning performace i-e paheli is 75% srk film and 25% rani film interms of performances. no doubt, srk desrve a shot sure award for this performance (not amitabh in black, his performance is very ordinary in black, not even passing with srk's perfromance). rani also deserve an award but not for her performance in paheli but in black. so for next year
best movie: black
best actor: shahrukh (paheli)
best actress: rani (black)
best director: sunjay leela bhansali (black)

Arjun : Black is very much a Hindi film . It only has some coversations in English for better impact.
Also even if it is entirely English , its a much better movie by sheer performances as compared to Paheli.

I am not trying to pin Paheli down or anything , but as a Hindi movie watcher , I want our cinema to be progressive and modern in technique as well as mature in performances.

Black is a great example of what Indian cinema could be ...

Thanks
Mohit

Dear Shah Rukh,
Look at all the comments, they are still coming in this shows how much we love you. I am your biggest fan, yes that’s what all of your fans think. I am not interested in discussing whether Paheli is a good choice for Oscars or not, I loved it and everyone is entitled to their opinion about Paheli. I saw Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa once again yesterday and enjoyed it a lot your acting was superb. You are so cute in KHKN, I have fallen in love with those gorgeous eyes. Love you, love you, love you, I enjoy all your movies; you are the best. Shah Rukh rules, Shah Rukh rocks, Shah Rukh is so cute, Shah Rukh is so handsome, Shah Rukh so adorable. The list can go on……………I wish that I can meet you once in my lifetime and when that happens I wish I survive. I am having lots of fun writing to you. I feel like once again I am a teenager. I am going through a difficult phase in my life, watching your movies has given me lots of happiness, I forget all my troubles after I watch a Shah Rukh movie. This is the SHAH RUKH MAGIC.
All the best to you,
Love and regards,
Esther Pezarkar.

Hi Shah Rukh

The number of posts in reply to shows the magic of celluloid. My wife & kids love to watch all your movies. I watch some of them. Incidentally Shahbaz was in college with us Bangalore, when you were a Fauji! And he used to ask every one to watch the serial.

We just saw the the Inner and Outer world of SRK on DVD and it touched me million times more than any of your movies. I am not your typical movie fan, but just another guy who loves his family. You are no doubt a champion who made it big with positive choices you made despite the adversity you have faced. It is terrible to lose your parents so young. Hey, I lost my younger sister ( the youngest National award winner for the best actress)at age 21 more than 13 years ago. So like you,I am terrified of losing people I love. Santosh Sivan would know. Anyway we wish for you and your family a life time of health, wealth & happiness.

Dearest ShahRukh, I think that paheli is the ideal choice for the Indian entry as it showcases India and it is packaged in folklore which is digestible to the international audience. While I enjoyed 'swades' more, it really only speaks to the NRI (of which I am one). paheli's story, colour and photography are all excedllent and its got YOU in it!!!
I'm a Huge fan and I'm hoping and praying you will get the Oscar. Wishing you every success sweetheart and a very Happy 40th. love Annaxxxx

shah rukh khan wow....
shahrukh please be great muslim shahrukh now i am watching ur photos from hamaraphotos.com these are great pics i want to meet u but this is not possible..oh my god

dear SHARU ,
we hope you get your wish from LA.Oscar .Dont worry every thing is OK . i am sure if trust God will be with you . In life or in family or in your carrier . I beleive in you .in shaa allah

Dear shahrukh,
I wish u ALL THE BEST FOR PAHELI.I BELEIVE THAT IT WILL CERTAINLY WIN IN OSCARS.i AM A GREAT FAN OF YOURS.I LIKE YOUR MOVIE PAHELI VERY MUCH.I WISH U WOULD WIN OSCARS FOR IT

dear ShahRukh
I'm Sikhon form THailand.I saw Paheli sinnce last week about 2 times,I think Paheli is the best film for me because it makes me know about love and how to love the other.I love you and your films very much and I hope you will make the best film like paheli for your fans. Thank you for you and your films because you and your films make me very happy.
bye......loving you

sikhon.....

Hi Shahrukh,

This is not anything to do with PAHELI. Since I have the chance of conveying a thought to you directly, i am taking the opportunity to do so. I hope you read it. Just want to say that when I see you on TV or in films and hear your interviews, I feel that there is some goodness in this world; and dreams, how ever impossible they may seem, are possible to achieve. What im trying to say that you have set an example for many people and that is very difficult. I really respect you for your family values and your conduct, and your views on women. Always remain the way you are and keep entertaining us like this...! You were great in Main Hoon Na and Veer Zaara.

I think if our country would have a crown, you would be my choice for one of the jewels in the crown..You have made Indians proud.

Happiness and peace

Hi SHAH RUKH, I know I'm late but maybe you are interested in a German opinion about Paheli? We're all brought up with stories like Sheherazade ( wich ist definitely persian) but these kind of stories keep us aware of our "itchy feet"( you know the German (Lederhosen wearing )Folks love to travel to exotic places) We love fairy tales and like the Paheli thing in german fairy tales there is always a kind of hidden moral or social criticism ( how boring to be aware of it all the time, but as an instrument it worked out for hundreds of years) . AAAHHH But Paheli:At first we see loads of colourful pictures, a foreign culture and smell the scents in the dry air of Rajastan, laugh at the turban wearing ,flower-fruit-and- coconut-counting Kishanlal and dream with Lachchi about men like the Ghost( please a bit more flesh and blood maybe?). I love the film for all this, and for the music (esp.phir raat kati!). Maybe its not the best foreign film for the Oscars but this year it's definitely my favourite!
And : keep on doing the films you like , you're getting the goal in the end!!!

Sorry, but I forgot to say i'ld rather liked Swades as the nominee, but intention and rules at the Academy are to show a cultural image of the country , and most americans associate India with Tea ,Tigers and Turbans, sometimes Curry and always funny clothes!
Be aware of the burn out syndrome, it is leg-kicking!!!!
Conny

Hey Shah Rukh,
I loved your work in Paheli. It was my first time seeing you in a supernatural form...probably,yours too... but you were superb, tremendously superb! There was no fault in the movie that put me in doubt about your talent as an actor. You took my breath away just as you did in your previous movies. I don't know what critics have been saying about Paheli but I liked it so much that I want to get my hands on the DVD a.s.a.p.
Taking this opportunity, I would also like to wish you a very belated happy birthday. May you become the next living legend in the film industry.
One more thing... I must say, I like your persona-you've never let criticisms hinder your passage to making movies you like. I have no doubts that you will emerge to be in Amitabh Bachchan's and Dilip Kumar's place in the near future.
Best of luck for your future endeavours.

happy birthday and many many congratulations for paheli.

Dear Friends,
A word of caution to anyone posting their email on here in hopes of Shah Rukh replying to you. Anyone could make up an email address and pose as Shah Rukh replying back. As exciting as this may be for a chance of Shah Rukh reading these messages and returning comments, please be aware of others taking the opportunity to impersonate him...via email.

Regards,
Cinda

As far as I know, he usually does not reply on email to anybody outside his circle of acquaintances so why should he do it after blogging here!
I don't even think he is regularly checking the comments ,or did he ever?
Maybe he blogged here to get another chance to advertise for his PAHELI and to hot up discussion 'bout it outside the normal forums.

WANT TO BRING YOU OUT OF YOUR SHELL

*waiting modus on*
Hey Mr. Khan , can you hear me?!!!!Where is your statement, you can post it here!

off topic:Did you see the b-present? Did you like it? What's your comment about it? We're waiting!!!!!!!!

*waiting modus off*
See, it's the same as ever- no reply?

Hi shahrukh.... I have not seen Indian Filmes side my chilhood, but now... in Germany..... and I want too say you... thankyou fore the takong me to my childehood time....:)... you are grate....:)....

Bad news :
SRK got some stress because of the "abuse " of dromedaries/ camels during the filming by some animal rights watch organization that reproached him;
did they threaten the animals to run in circles instead of straight ahead?
Did the camels/dromedaries make a complaint?
and if yes, why after such a long time?
It is maybe therefor he has no time to reply?
Who can answer this?
* waiting mode on*

Conny and all others keep your
*waiting mode on*
He will never reply, this is just a way of promoting Paheli. Deepak Chopra met SRK in New York on SRK's birthday party and Deepak Chopra made him post something to bring the crowd to intentblog.
Do you really thing he has read any of these comments? He is too busy somking in front of his kids.

Huuuh WHO CARES,you're so rude LOL
Take all dreams away ( cry!!) I Know what you mean; I too think he will never reply but you see sometimes writing is therapy especially for people like me, that have to face the truth and on th other hand have some dreams. Maybe I should write a book instead of posting at intetblog. Title WAITING FOR SHAH RUKH ( according to Samuel Bechett's Waiting for GODOT)
What do you think?
By the way he smokes in front of everyone, and he is away from home til mid december, so the kids got some time in fresh air!
And how do you know about the birthday-party-intetblog-writing-invitation?
everybody who follows every step of Mr Khan knows, that this text is a standart.statement -that is held many times in some variations according to the event! So what-nothing new to know -nothing to really care about- just some pastime!
And I must admitt,I enjoy it :-))

@ WHO CARES again
if you had read any of my comments, you'd known that I was definetely faster than you with the message about his not replying-not reading-just advertising statement! ;-)

Hey Sharukh

I love your films...You are my Hero!!!...Please give me an email. THANK YOU SO MUCHOO

SHAHRUKH KHAN - JUST TO LET YOU KNOW THAT U ARE BEING ADMIRED BY YOUNG AND OLD FROM ALL AROUND THE WORLD....NOT ONLY FOR YOUR SUPERB ACTING BUT FOR WHO U ARE AS A PERSON. JUST KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK....CONGRATULATIONS FOR THE OSCAR NOMINEE FOR PAHELI; INSYA ALLAH, YOU, INDIA AND THE INDIAN FILM INDUSTRY WILL GET THE RECOQNITON DUE...GOD WILLING.
GOOD WISHES AND LOVE COME YOUR WAY FROM ME AND FAMILY.....

great.
am impressed about the mix of this traditional, music, colours, stories ... well done mix :) we in europe are always suprised about this special way how this indian films are produced - just fascinating. as so far we in switzerland are very lucky that we often had the chance to watch a bollywood production 'cause it happens very often here and even this was alway a great pleasure for me what i always liked - but last but not least: very nice to watch just a sexy actor like srk is (very nice ;)) angela

Conny,

I am sorry for taking away all your dreams and I didn't mean to be rude but be a realistic.

I like your idea of writing the book and like the title too.

Yes. I did read all your comments. I should have read all the comments before posting mine(too late for that).

I think writing is a good therapy for everyone.
I don't follow Mr. Khan's every step so I didn't know this text is a standard statement.
I did see his picture with Deepak Chopra and Vikram Chatwal(don't know who is he) celebrating his birthday few days before this post.
When I saw the picture of them together I told my husband that he will be posting on Intentblog soon. (My theory was right).

Conny, have lots of fun writing your book.

@WHO CARES

I'm not annoyed I was just joking!

Conny,

I had to search for it as I had forgotten the site but got it. Here is the link http://us.rediff.com/movies/2005/nov/02srk.htm

My psychic powers tell me that your book will be published soon. Just a joke, I don't have any kind of power but may be sharp minded. (am I not a modest person or what)

I will keep my waiting mode on for your english translation book.

You are very amusing.

Thanks a lot !
I've already started thinking about the content, cause the title is fixed!! :-))

Dear Mr.Khan,
congratulations to your awesome work!
My husband ,my daughter(she´s 5 years old but already in love with your movies),and I are so impressed by them!!We love your work, and thank you very much for it,your acting is so wonderful, sensitive, just gorgeous...thanks for bringing India closer to us!!Unfortunately we didn´t see "Paheli" yet,but "Swades" will be in TV this Friday,we can´t wait to see it..good luck for "Red Chillies"and for your plans in the futue!
Oh,and I´m so sorry for some of the german fans,I´ve read about the "meet and greet" in Hamburg, and how rude some of them behaved, not all of us are like that..
I wish there would be something in the internet where we (the Fans) would be able to ask questions about your movies-that would be really great, but nothing like this exists, right?
Well, best wishes to Jaya Bachchan and Amitabh Bachchan,we like them very much,too...
Ok,enough(of imaging you would ever read this,I´m not naive,but hey-who knows ;-) )
Bye,take care,Julie

It is true that i am grateful for your comments about having appreciation for the way that women should have an equal share in society and be allowed to make their own choices.I have seen the film Paheli and i found it not only to be entertaining but becuase it was different from other stories and the story of sumthin that is out of place is what i enjoy seeing.Best of luck for the Oscars.

Hi, Shah, I've only seen one of your films recently, Kabhi kushi kabhie gham. Anyhoo, i do realy enjoy Indie musicals. I rememberd ur face from a couple of indie music videos they show here in Orlando on sundays in the morning at 10am. I'm trying to find out where i can buy the movie. I reeealy enjoyed the acting in this movie, especialy yours. Oh, before i forget, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, in case u don't get this right away. I know it's realy tommorrow but, i'm an early bird. I was telling my mother the other day that i would love to learn the language, i find it fasinating, I hope thats not wierd, lol. Hope ur not offened by the fact that I've only seen one of your films. I'm american so i do watch more of those films. U might find this silly to say, but alot of people tell me that i can pass as indie becaude of my skin tone. I actualy like that. Ur cultures skin tone is a beautiful color. Anyhoo, ur veery handsome, stay that way and have a happy happy birthday and HAPPY HOLIDAYS to u and your family.

Hi, its me again, lol. Could u write me back, i would feel very apreciative if u could, that would make my holidays, thanx.

To Conny and WhoCares and xyz!

Please discuss the movie Paheli and itz nomination for Oscars rather than diss the actor for no apparent reason. Shahrukh shared his thoughts in a wonderful post online, you may not appreciate it...fine! There is no need to hate the actor for it. Turn your waiting modes OFF and get a life. Chill.

Maybe I'm misunderstood; I do not tend to diss anyone, so why should I do it with MrKhan? I really admire him and I'm a very big fan, and I like his PAHELI a lot!
Did you read all my posts?

My dearest Shah Rukh Khan...
Im not going to make any remarks on your movies or acting as i think you are good at what you do and you know your job. Great! Im going to share a little secret with you today...pls dont get me wrong...you have been here in singapore many times in the recent past.. but i never had or rather never made any attempt to see you in person..didnt interest me then...but after watching your Kal Ho Na Ho...you just swept me off the ground....you reminded me of my first love...met him in 1978 but because I come from a very strict family..i wasnt allowed to marry him.. he waited ten years for me and commited suicide in 1988...what a ending...i always blame myself for whatever happened. Anyway, in that movie..your laughter, nekra..cool walk everything about you reminds me of him...imagine the nightmare..i go through...but im happy just watching you and probably saw all your movies after that...to me you're a "god's gift to this world."It's not normal to go watch a movie alone in theatres here, but I went to see Paheli all by myself..was nice.

I have lived my life to the fullest and my hubby is a photo-copy of Amitabh Bhachan, great guy, I mean my hubby. share my dreams with him, I must see Shah Rukh Khan in person...one day, i really hope you will give me that opportunity.

Wishing you all the best...and always have you in my prayers. 2006 will be a fantastic year for you...I know...keep siling.

Conny, I'm guessing you're American? Just a gentle reminder that for once, this page is not about YOU, but about this Hindi actor (Hindi means from India, a country somewhere East of New York City) who has touched millions of people's lives in South Asia and other parts of the world. Your countrymen are also great entertainers, maybe you could spam one of their blogs?

And yes, you are quite probably misunderstood, misjudged, the funniest and greatest person, and all that. But could we stick to the topic at hand here please, which is: (not you, btw but rather) responding to SRKji's post, wishing and encouraging him, if we feel like it. If we don't, why bother writing here?

@To Miss Conny

I'm sorry, but I'm not American, it's maybe more worse: I'm German.
And I know where SRK comes from.
But just to calm all of you down, I stop posting here at once!
@Mr Khan
Lots of love to you ,you are my favourite actor since 1997!

And it will definitely get brighter in the following years with your amazing movies! you an incredible actor.. no one can be compared to you! god bless

Dear Mr.Khan,
me again, watched "Swades",and I´m sorry but I have to post here again, yeah I know this is a blog for "Paheli",but I just have to say that Swades was so great,a masterpiece!!It was sad, distressing to see the poverty, and it makes us very thoughtful...but otherwise it was so beautiful, your acting, the landscape, the emotions!!Thank you very much for it!
I really admire you for your talent, and the way you dance just knocks me out,it´s unique !
So,I wish you all the best, take care,
Julie (who will never post here again-I promise ;-) )

"I think it is the time that our film making industry got recognised on it's merit. It is the time that Indian films and film makers and the audience do not have to be on the periphery of world cinema. I think and I believe we are as good as it gets. I want everyone to know that, and that would happen if we all believe that we are not just an exotic nation of snake charmers but a media literate and educated upcoming economy."

Even though I saw a lot of indian movies as a child growing up in South America, I hadn't seen any in the last 18 years until recently when my friend suckered me into watching 4 SRK films. The actor, while not that good looking, is extremely talented. I like the fact that he is outspoken about the issues that I have quoted in this post. I watch all sorts of movies and do believe that the indian movies do leave the viewer with an experience so unlike watching any other type of movie. Indian movies take the viewer away from the everyday stress into another place and time.

While I have never visited India, I think that SRK's comment is correct about the world's perception of India and that it needs to be remedied. I hope that the influential people of India can do more to change the steriotypical perceptions. It would be of benefit to India and hopefully bring some desperately needed attention to the country's poor citizens.

To Julie

I don't think you should be so hard on yourself. I personally don't see why you can't post here again if you stick to the topic, which is Shah Rukh Khan.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on 'Paheli', it was really interesting to learn more about your motivation.
Although I haven't seen 'Paheli' yet (unfortunately I'll have to wait till March 31th, the german release date) I'm more than positive that you've created a great film - with the best of intentions.

It's good to know that you're supporting emanzipation & have the courage to picture your beliefs... Your surpassing all of my expectations! Nice to see your not only a man of talent and looks, but brains.
I honestly admire and respect your work and wish you all the best.

Hi SRK!!!!!
i wanted to wish u, ur family and friends a very HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! best wishes n i hope its a lot better than 2005!!!
i loved Paheli as a movie since it was really a unique friend but i only had language problem since i live in Australia...and can't speak hindi fluently lol.
im a huge fan of you and i love you heaps!!!
bye bye
Swati...LOVE U!!!!

Hallo Shah Rukh,

Although I have not yet seen Paheli, I do wish it well at the Oscars.
At least most of Bollywood's films are not blasphemous in use of language as the Hollywood majority. I became a fan after watching Langaan and Main Hoon Na and Veer Zara - and must add that my favourite to date is; Chalte Chalte (personal reasons).

Being from South Africa I do hope - our film competing against yours at the Oscars, "Tsotsi" will also do well - but Bollywood needs the recognition I believe.

I wish you all of the best for your future endeavours - the evolution of the Bollywood film industry is exciting to observe - you and your fellow artist's hard work is paying off.
Be aware of the South African Film industry - what shall we name it? Sunnywood?

Happy filming.
Michelle Hough

Happy New Year Shar Rukh and family...may you all find peace and contentment in the year 2006.

Namaste,
Cinda

Hi there!

I have never written in a blog before. Dunno what to do even. But somehow, your blog has moved me to write this. I have been a fan for quite a while but its only the past 2 years that I have been dilligently watching all your movies. Have to say that I am bit biased and I only watch bollywood movies with you in it. After watching Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, I have discovered what an amazing actor you are. You really moved me to tears and even make me laugh out loud. You have proven to be a very versatile actor, who can act in any kind of roles. And I have to salute also the kind of roles that you pick and the movies that u act in. I have watched Paheli. Watched it during Ramadhan together with my colleagues during lunch time over 3 days. :-) All of us loved the movie, and again you have shown us how multi-talented you are as a producer and actor. But I have to say, to me the best movie to date is Veer-Zaara! That movie makes me feels so sad for the 2 characters, and happy as well in the end, it just shows how much emotion you can bring on to the screen. Your potrayal as Veer was so real that it really moved me. Anyways, I wish you best of luck in the upcoming Oscars and I wish that Bollywood would finally get its recognition that it deserves. Hope to see more SRK movies in the future.

luv, dar from Singapore

Dear Shah Rukh,
Paheli is a wonderful movie, one which can touch the soul and heal it in a gentle way. You were tremendous and Rany more beautiful than ever. All thoses colours, the settings, the love coming from your face, from your eyes, the dances, really this movie connects to me more than I can express. Since I saw K3G, I felt the urge to see all your others movies, you were fabulous, the best, in Asoka. You said you feel too much and I do thank you for that. I truly feels that the world is a better place because you're part of it.
All the best for you and your familly and friends for 2006 and I hope Paheli will get the Oscars, but even without it, I'm sure this movie will spread out in the world.
Love and hugs from Joelle

OMG, its so nice to see a post by Shahrukh Khan here!
Shahrukh, u've been my favorite actor since Circus! DDLJ is my absolute favorite till date!

Paheli is a very sweet movie... its nice to know that your intent behind it was to put forth feminism & respect for women! I didn't know its a 'folk tale' of old Rajasthan, its amaizing that in those times they had a tale like this which talks about a woman to be free enough to choose her love. The movie triggered a lot of emotions throughout. I usually don't watch too many Indian movies, but I wait for your movies to come out!

Wish you all the luck with Paheli at Oscars, and also in all your future endeavors.

HI, KING KHAN

I'M FROM PERÚ.
PAHELI IS A WONDERFUL MOVIE, ES UNA PELÍCULA QUE TIENE QUE SER GANADO EN EL OSCAR, TIENE UN MENSAJE MUY BONITO, Y FUERA DE LO COMÚN,SRK TÚ ERES EL MEJOR ACTOR DE TODO EL MUNDO, Y ME ALEGRA DE QUE HAYAS SIDO NOMINADO COMO MEJOR ACTOR DE LOS PREMIOS APSARA AWARDS, YO SÉ QUE VAS A GANAR.
CUIDATE MUCHO, Y QUE TENGAS UN BONITO NUEVO AÑO, SALUDOS A TU ESPOSA Y A TUS HIJOS.
I LOVE YOU MY KING KHAN.

Year 2005 has been a period of family misunderstanding and seperation, of work discouragement etc. Suicide thoughts come to my mind. Then i get to watch my 1st Shah Rukh Khan movie and read about his outlook of life.

Now i say :
'my life is troubling me, i've seen a Shah Rukh Khan film, life still tough but i will overcome.
Thank you Shak Rukh Khan'

hiii
SRK have are you?

hatice 16 FRANCE

Hello Shah Rukh,
I have seen all your movies. All I can say that I liked most of them but not all. But then too You are excellent. The way u brings emotions on your face and ur eyes expressions they are best. I can say that, that's ur secret of ruling our hearts.Talking about Paheli,it's excellent. A woman-falling in love with a ghost. I suppose for some women's they get better option in this movie than in reality -- selecting a person to live with. The best dialogue which I liked in this movie was the conversation between u and rani regarding how happy u were when she was expecting a child and u r saying her thanks for that.
I read your feelings regarding making of this movie and that has impressed me. It's our good luck that here is a producer who really wanna show something else than a masala movie.
I wish u Best of Luck, Hope u win the oscar award and bring a pride for our country.
Waiting for your new release-----Always hasoo muskarao shayad KAL HO NAA HO!!!

Dear Mr. Shahrukh Khan,
I'm very sorry your movie 'Paheli' failed to get a nomination for the Oscar. But for me and a lot of German fans 'Paheli' is an encouragement for supporting the emancipation of women around the globe. No other movie describes the feelings of a woman like 'Paheli' does it. And I wish that every lonesome woman will have a ghost like the one in your movie.
Thank you for sending 'Paheli' to get a place in the nomination, because you gave the Indian film industry the possibility to be recognized by the international cinema and audience.
In Germany you still conquered your throne and you deserve it to be called 'KING KHAN'.
I hope we will have more of your first class entertainment in the following years.
Lots of Love to you and your family and let me end this letter with a dialog out of a Kabir Bedi movie: "The Best Is Yet To Come!"

Best wishes from Germany
Yours Kirsten

Hi Taj,
who is trying that hard to introduce the movie 'Paheli'. Do you really think somebody? I don't think somebody is distinguish himself/herself in a way like that. If there will be a new sentence are you sure that it will Shah Rukh Khan?

You should believe that some stars want to communicate with their fans and I think Shah Rukh Khan is one of them.

Kirsten

Hello Mr. Khan,

I am writing to you from Rhode Island, USA. I too, would like to know if you are reading these blogs. In the future when you come to the US to film a movie I would like to suggest that you visit Rhode Island before deciding to film in New York. Many films have been filmed in RI for many reasons, such as the beauty of the small state's coastline, large mansions in Newport and the capital which has an area we call "Federal Hill" which looks very much like New York. Also, the State of RI gives very large tax breaks to filmmakers. Mario Van Peeples just finished filming here last month and the Farrelly Brothers have filmed here quite often (Something About Mary; Dumb and Dumber; Me, Myself and Irene with Jim Carey) to mention a few..also Armistad by Steve Spielberg and the list goes on. If you would like more information please contact me at my email address ellemerchant@hotmail.com. I am very serious about this. Rhode Island has quite a lot to offer and I am sure your viewers will not be disappointed in seeing you and RI in your next US film. Thank you for allowing me to promote RI to you on your Blog. Elle

Hi Shah Rukh Khan,

Hello Mr. Khan

To say it outright… I don’t actually believe you’ll ever see this. A person with the workload you seem to shoulder must have better things to do with his time than spending it on reading blog comments from dizzy females. Oookey… at least I am not blond… just a grizzled redhead.

Having said that I will go on nevertheless… after all… wonders do happen… and what would life be without believing in the unbelievable? You deal in illusions… and I will happily allow myself to harbour a few. Thinking that this is ever going to be read by you albeit needs a major act of suspension of disbelief… *grins*… far greater than accepting a ghost loving a woman and engendering a child. I must say I am not surprised it didn’t make it into the oscar nominations… not because the movie isn’t good… but because Hollywood wouldn’t brook any competition in entertainment. Most Americans would probably ignore a political film… great entertainment is a different matter. I, for my part, go to the movies to be entertained… if I want to get critical input I read a book.

But what am I doing?... a fan is supposed to have screaming fits and faint… or at least fall into dreamy reveries. Oookey…right on the point of the reveries…but don’t tell anybody!...so let’s go to the supreme task of a fan… singing the accolade of her adored.

Erm.. hm… *flutters eyelashes* my friend in Dubai considers you a ham actor.. but I think he is a bit jealous cause I like your nose better than his ;). I rather think of it as supreme slapstick… and it usually has me rolling on the floor. You couldn’t hold a candle to Sir Anthony Hopkins… whom I consider one of the most versatile and outstanding actors of western cinema…but… for what you are doing you are perfect. Indian cinema is new to me…it’s bursting with colours, song, and emotion. For a westerner this is refreshing… we are so much stuck in our grey world, and our ‘realistic’ cinema (and yes.. that is meant ironically) that the sensory overload one gets from Indian films is like a revitalising shower. I am Swiss… I don’t know how much you have learned about our mentality while filming in Switzerland… but a Swiss joke is… a Swiss declares his love to his girl by offering her a cup of coffee.

Seeing a man cry… and you cry beautifully…is so much in opposition with our own culture that a western woman just simply has to fall in love. I’ve never seen so many tears on screen… and haven’t bawled so many myself before finding Indian films. Well… truth is… your films. I have watched only a very few others… and they were ok… but…well… they lacked something… definitely. *flutters eyelashes*.

:p…I’ve been trying to crack the nut of why some people are so attractive and others, who look so much better, are just passing fads. I think it has something to do with the soul. I believe that the exterior of a person is overshadowed by the light of their soul… and the beauty of a soul shines through and transforms the exterior. That is why so many really beautiful people seem empty husks. There is nothing inside them that could give real life to their exterior… and make them personalities. You look at them, you appreciate them aesthetically…but the moment you get to know them better… you get bored or disappointed. Only a very empty person can fall for a rubber doll.

I guess you must have a beautiful soul. It shows when watching your movies. It is very hard to hide ones true self even when impersonating another character, for all we do must come from within ourselves. I see somebody who is caring and capable of great passion. No wonder we women are all so blinkers about you :p.

Btw… I would like to congratulate you on Main Hoon Na. Some pretty classy action going on there…you are a pretty terrific athlete… even at your age. (I can say that … I am three years older than you :D ) and having done martial arts I can see when there is more than just clever editing in a fight scene. And the change from the sweet boy in bellbottoms to the tough fighter… rrrrrawr. Oh… and that scene where Chandni cleans Ram’s wounds… phew… I think that must have been the most erotic scene I’ve seen in a long while. To be honest… I much preferred it to the overtly sexy waterfall scenes in the song…

I am pretty up to date with your major films since 2000…and I have loved every single one except Veer and Zaara. For some reason that one just didn’t click… I guess it is time to review it again. I do confess I would rather fancy you in a role like in Josh again… although the youthful rebel would have to be replaced by someone a bit more mature…but Shahrukh Khan, the fallen…delicious idea. ;). We females all have a weak spot for the bad boys…especially if they are redeemed at the end by the love of a female :p. Would be a nice vehicle for the action movie I somewhere read you would like doing…hm… *grins*.. I can actually think of a number of plotlines I would like to see you do.

Oh.. and… I love Ashoka. The only thing I could reproach it is that the reason Ashoka turns so cruel is not worked out enough. The way I see it, here we have a man like Othello… who loved not wisely but too well (yea ok… not all that close.. but I wanted to brag with a quote :p)… and the loss of love tips him over to the other side… not because he is evil, but because he hurts so much. It could have been worked out a bit more, as the change for me was a bit too radical…but all in all… I liked it.

Well… I rather hope you’ll get to do your action film…I’d certainly be the first to watch it… just a pity we never get to see these films in the cinema over here… and the small screen… is just not the same.

*scowls at all those shoulder-readers she has no choice but to allow in on a private conversation…* well…even knowing I am writing this for the thin air I went ahead… because I believe that appreciation should be expressed… no matter what. If you will never read this, I still hope you will feel the appreciation I hold for the work you do. You aim to entertain…you do it with love, and it shows. That is probably the underlying secret of your success. Thank you.

Barbara

Aww ofcourse Shahrukh Khan would read the comments :P. He doesn't have time to comment cause he's working too hard :). Poor guy or lucky.

Anyways lovely post. I liked Paheli and Asoka is simply an awesome film. But I liked Badshaah and Duplicate and Josh more, I've to admit. Its the kiddy in me. I'm just 15 :0:P (and I've my board exams coming up :-(). You're very funny. I'm always laughing my heads off in those movies and in your interviews.

Keep it up!

Godbless

hey you are doing a great job. that movie just take you away from the real world and into a dreamland where most people theses days long to be.

Hey Sharukh

I am a fan of yours from Germany. I bought the Paheli video, it was entertaining but disappointing. May be I was expecting too much after all that hype. Nevertheless, I think you should do a couple of more films a year. If I am informed correct, 2006 will release 3 films. And also, if you have the choice, you should do more diverse roles, I am sure you are up to it. Not this "lover boy" crap (excuse my French!). I don't know whether you are doing it because your Indian fans (who make up for the majority I guess) expect it of you or because that is what sells. Anyway, if all the gossip I read about you is correct, you are a rich guy now who can afford to have a flop or two but satisfy at least a part of your more discerning fans.

Lastly, hats off to you for bringing Bollywood in to the living rooms in Europe, which none of big names in Bollywood could manage. You are very famous in Europe. Also, I read your interview in Newsweek. Well done too.

Hi Malki from Germany,
my name is Kirsten and I'm from Germany, too. So a heartly 'Guten Abend!'. I can't share your opinion about 'Paheli', because I don't think the movie is dissapointing.
By the way, do you know how much work it is to make a movie and how long it takes till the movie is ready for it's release. It does not only depend on the work of Shahrukh Khan, who is a brilliant actor.
I'm not sure our actors are doing more than 3 movies a year.
This 'lover boy crap' like you called it, are the roles SRK-Fans enjoy very much. Bollywood movies are very different to our movies and this is the reason why they are that successful. The Indian film industry and the actors, especially Mr. Khan, are able to show tenderness, love, erotic and respect in a special way, which has been forgotten in Germany for a very long time. Nearly in every German movie you find theese 'bed-scenes' and excuse me I think they are very boring. Everybody knows how it works, or? So Bollywood's game with the phantasy of the viewers is much more exciting and could be broadcasted in the primetime. This is the reason why Mr. Khan has very young female fans. I'm in contact with Shahrukh Khan fans nearly everyday and I know they love him in the role of a romantic hero, what doesn't mean they won't like to see him in a negative or comic role.
And if love sells it wouldn't be bad, if some German filmmakers would take this as an example for their next movies.

Kirsten

Lots of love to you, Mr. Khan and your family !!!

I watch you in amazement (not sure if i spelt that right), and i hope to be as good as you one day. i admire you technique although sometimes you go a bit over the top keep it up. And be happy always ji.
Bye.

Shahrukh Khan, it was real nice of you to post your comments regarding your movie 'Paheli', and some other issues related to hindi cinema. I must say, my first, and ofcourse last impression after watching Paheli was that it's nothing but a fairy tale brought forth in the shape of a film to amuse it's audience. Hence the movie does so much more than just merey entertaining the viewers. It makes one think deeply about the issues discussed in the movie.
I hope you continue to make movies like Paheli in the future.
My well wishes will always be with you.

Hello Mr. Khan

Yep… I am like a bad penny…turning up ever and ever again. :p

I recently read a summary for the first Don… looks like you get to do your action movie, from what I read there. In any case I am looking forward to that movie. That would be the fourth at least with double identities… or duplicates. Not many other actors have that many movies where they play two people (at least in western cinema). It will be interesting to see what you are going to do with this one. Duplicate was pretty funny, albeit pure slapstick. Paheli was interesting in that respect too. I thought you managed to create two really distinct characters without having to resort to antics like in Duplicate…(it was just slightly funny to notice the exactly same hairdo, with the strands falling exactly the same way in the scene where the mother first sees the two ‘Kisen’...;) …) It was all in the set of the head, the different posture, and a greater self-assurance in the Ghost.

I am actually hoping for a similarly finely distinct performance in Don....and what I am definitely hoping for is that you are not going to use your badie voice. I can live with very extreme facial expressions… peoples’ faces are very mobile… but voices usually aren’t to the same extent. That is what I really didn’t like in Asoka…or in any other case where you play a badie…that deep, throaty, rough voice when Asoka is ‘evil’… Maybe that is actually your real voice and comes naturally… but to my ears it always sounds put on and destroys a good performance by making it sound… fake. I wouldn’t allow it in one of my …except in something as slapsticky as Duplicate that is (and theatre does demand somewhat more exaggerated acting) I would expect them to be clipped, gritty, ironic, falsely nice, sharp …whatever the situation… but those are ways of speaking that would not create that irritatingly rough, dropped voice. I get a sore throat just listening to it.

I don’t know whether that is a Hindi movie convention… I have noticed the same in other actors…but I guess that is one thing I cannot get used to… not when the performance is otherwise naturalistic. That’s why I don’t mind it much in Duplicate… and hate it in Asoka or Baazigar. You are a good actor…being able to pull off something like Duplicate even in its slapstick mode is proof of that. You are capable of great subtlety of facial expression… I just wish you would apply the same to your voice (in regards to shady characters). Then again… I might just bring in my personal western prejudices of how acting is supposed to be. Whichever is the case, I have enjoyed every single movie with you (with small reservations) and I admire the versatility and ease with which you can move from pure slapstick to the heart-stoppingly ‘real’ as in Devdas.

*grins* Btw… I have rarely seen anybody who can look as dead as you can (for example in Baazigar)… that is superb body control. And don’t you listen to those who critizise your dancing…to my eyes it is energetic, very natural and expressive, full of life…and a number like the one in Duplicate with the two girls or the double act needs a pretty classy dancer to act while dancing as well. Maybe the younger generation dances differently… but that doesn’t mean they are necessarily any better... just different. If that dance style isn’t yours… it doesn’t make you a lesser dancer. I enjoy the dance numbers for the sheer exuberance you project. Which probably is the reason why people like you so much – the sheer power, the energy, sincerity and passion that shines out… we all would like to be as alive as that.

Wow!... reading through this rant again I realise how arrogant this all sounds. Me telling you what I think you do wrong…:p…still going to leave it, as it is honest criticism…criticism from my heart I should say…and I hope you understand that it was all written with respect for your work. Yep…and I guess I have been rather more forward because I know deep down that you won’t see this anyway…*g*… although part of me naturally hopes to be proven wrong. And that isn’t even a contradiction…I am female… it comes naturally to me :p.

Hello KING KHAN,
Well you are talking about Paheli...
Actually most of the peoples that i know say that it's boring and is't odd. It's like SWADES.
Well 4 me it's the opposite. I just adore the films...
Paheli is typically indian. It's different from others. The way they are dressed and so on, that what i like with it...
Swades that was amazing...
What i like the most in the film is that u sacrified your work, friends, house, and country and go and lived in india because of the Girl u loved....
Well me i live in MAURITIUS and i am very pleased that the Zee Cine Award was held in my country. Unfortunately i coudn't attend the Award because my parent went to india...
I was extremely sad when they told me that we won't attend the Award... Maybe i will get the opporrtunity to see u when u come and perform a CONCERT in my country...
Me i am a girl of 13 years old and u don't know hw i am crazy about you...
My dad think that i am Crazy...

hello! I am french and I discovered India thru the films starring Shah Rukh Kahn and I really want to travel there now; I hope this actor will read I deeply I was touched by the movies in which he played, I had never been so upset by a country !

I just wanted to add that I wish you all the best for you and your family, your movies are inspiring for me and send wonderful messages. They urge people to be better and urge people to be good with others and that's a gift you have from God. I am not an Indian but wish I could go sometimes because your movies are real poems praising the beauty of India

Thank you for everything and always remain who you are

Why do you make people deewana over you? Are you the Devil? I know for sure you are a handsome one.

Hi Mr. Khan,
Just wanted to say I loved your film Pahelli!! I just recently became a fan of yours and I am in the process of tracking all of your films down. I have seen Devdas, Chalte Chalte(one of my favorites)Kal Ho Naa Ho (first one I saw fell madly in crush- totally loved it.) My friend is responsible for getting me into you . She had been a fan of yours for ten years and it took that long before I saw one of your pictures. The moment I did I loved it. Besides from being drop dead gorgeous you also possess a magnetism that is out of this world. Your acting is pretty good too very emotional. You also appear to be a cool person. It is nice to see that there are honest actors that are not fake but real. It is a shame that American audiences are not that familar with you. Are you ever going to do a indian crossover film one that is in English and will be released in English speaking countries? You should I think you would capture another country with ease. well gotta go but I wanted to say thank you for your work. I actually like bollywood films now well at least yours and I am starting to look at other films. I never would have looked at a bollywood film before and because of you I am even giving other countries a chance(hate subtitles). Well good luck on your next projects, can't wait to see Don(providing i can find it) and sorry about Pahelli there is always next year. Well catch ya and who knows maybe if I am lucky one day I may get a chance to say hi to you in person. Take care and Best luck

*grins* yep.. it's the bad penny again. I have been watching a few more of your films... and I haven't yet one that doesn't work for me. And watching them several times makes them only better...they grow on you. Paheli must be on its... hm...tenth leg at least?...I like it very much.
Most recent favorite is Koyla, however. I guess I am a sucker for the humble and innocent Shankar...who seems to have no idea how to protect himself but raises to the challenge for others. There are some moments when Shankar's expression of confused hurt twist my heart. I know only one other actor who has managed to play a role with the same touching innocence, while being at the same time quite a man... and that is Mel Gibson in Tim...
Indian films seem to be big on pinching ideas... and I am having fun finding out where the ideas come from. I very much enjoyed the steals in Baadshah... Jacky Chan is another of my favorites. Must say... was quite convinced by the steal.
Well.. I thought I'd do a bit of stealing myself...and go right to the best... stealing from the best for the best :-p. Well.. here is my pastiche..

Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?
Thou art more funny than a wheeling lark
More stormy than the changing times of may
And all too soon the flickering light goes dark

Sometimes too crazy for the eyes doest shine
And then the heart through innocence is moved
From fair to foul but ne’er to ugly doest decline
By nature’s change your artistry is proved

But thy eternal summer shall not fade
Nor lose possession of the hearts thou ow’st
Nor shall in death thy mem’ry overshade

When in eternal lines thy fame thou grow’st
So long as men the silver screen can see
So long livest thou and this gives life to me.

I'll be back...(yep... that was a threat ;-)

oi shahrukh
well done

no actually, i'll call you

Hey, wish you the best for Holi!

I'm looking forward to watch Paheli - in April it will excist for the first time with German subtitles, finally.

So take care about your family and yourself - parents shouldn't do anything what affects their health because they should try to stay as long on this earth as they are needed by their children... this ist what we realized when our first son was to be born twelve years ago.

Mr. Khan,
I am not an ardent follower of your movies, infact I have watched very few of them. Some which I liked, some, which were totally out of my taste.
I am not a cynic, and I certainly don't fail to acknowledge and appreciate your part in reviving what might be said as tumultuous times in bollywood's history as concerns box office collections and renewed public interest in movies. The focus also shifted from the cheap smut being sold as romance, and the even cheaper smut 'comedies'...
I admit hindi movie scripts were very well thought, deep and thought provoking not in the very distant past. But somehow the more recent bollywood directors have failed to keep that standard, and I am sad to say the movies I see nowadays are far displaced from providing me, or for that matter, a lot of other people thinking on the same lines, any emotional or intellectual gratification.
I am not, by any means, a cynic as I mentioned earlier, I am just speaking my mind...

god bless,
rick.

In India, Why only acting and dancing shows are conducted. After reading some stories like devdas and paheli can't we understand to conduct talent competitions on writing work for story and lyrics.

Is that you r.rivera?(purple juice)

Dear Mr Khan

I have watched almost all the films that you've made up to now. Paheli is indeed a very good film you have performed very well in it, your way of expressing your feelings for Lacchi, your talent, really God has given you all the things that a talentful person should pocess.

Besides your films I admire the way you treat and respect your wife Gauri, very rare man respect their wives the way that you respect her nowadays.

Everybody loves you and May God bless you for everything you do. My 3 years old daughter know you but she can't spell your name, the moment she saw you in films, she just say "look mom, Main hoon na".

Dear Mr Khan,

If indeed, this is addressed to the man himself and not some elaborate hoax!
I read your comments with interest. It is always interesting to see what film makers from production to cast have to say and think about what they do. I detected a certain honesty about your words, which was refreshing. You see the problems with being a 'star', yet wanted to act, too; the tension between material, financial necessity when it comes to film-making, and the strong desire to tell stories that lies at the heart of every story-teller; be they writer, actor, crew, etc.

After reading the official site for your new film, I was reminded of both "A Chinese Ghost Story" and "Le Retour de Martin Guerre ". Both are excellent films. "Sommersby" with Jodie Foster and Richard Gere is the American re-make of the French "Martin Guerre" film.

I am also pleased to read about your apparently sincere wish for equal respect and control over personal destiny for woman. Not just in India, but subtly or unsubtly, all over the world women are often left behind the men. Considering we keep their homes, create the safe 'nests' for their families, soothe them and look out for them, I think it is high time men ceased their false pro-feminism stances and disagreeable attitude, and instead honestly recognised female strengths and female worth for what it is- not trying to over-shine its virtues, nor trying to degrade them.

I like your work; watching someone in old-fashionably romantic/ heroic roles is so refreshing to a jaded Western taste- please don’t stop doing what you do! It is also very pleasant to be admiring such a handsome fellow, too!

All best wishes for health and happiness to you and your family

Dear Mr Khan,

what "Kate" has written down here seems to be quite the same I would've liked to say - but it's difficult to find the right words when not writing in the mother tongue.

I hope to see again and more films done as fine as this.

Also best wishes
from a West-European woman, wife and mother...

wow, you seem to be pretty popular. good luck. i wonder what was going on in your mind when you signed up to play the character of a ghost who falls in love and successfully becomes a biological father of a human child, but i really liked the movie Dil se.. watched it many times and i love it a lot. one of my favorite. I wonder why it was a flop though. but good luck with work, health and the things that matter to you in life.

Dear Shahrukh Khan,
at first I would like to say that I am not sure, if it is right, what I am going to do...

I have learned from the media that Paheli has not such a success as it were expected. Perhaps it would be joyful for you to hear, that my 10year old daughter loves Paheli, she doesn´t know Hindi nor english...
But she understood the meaning of Paheli, she told me, that she were listening careful so she felt the pain and desperation of the young woman, who had to loose her love. Thank god at last there is an Happy End! This I wanted to tell you or whoever will read this and at the same time I appologize for my bad english!

Many greetings and all the best from Stuttgart/Germany

What someone once said - If you know how to swim, don't be afraid of the ocean.
Life speaks in a language that can get a little difficult to comprehend at first but then if you take the plunge and be ready to accept what is thrown at you,
you will be amazed at how much is being shouted at you but you never cared to listen.

Opem your eyes. The mirror is staring at you.

Just a thought. In case someone cares.

Dear Shahrukh,

You are great. I don't know how to express how much I like you. I like you in every movie you do. I just love you.

lots of love...
Manish

hi....
actually i've one questions about this film, at the end of the story, who hugged Rani? her husband @ the ghost?
tq..

I was the ghost, not the husband. Atleast it was the ghost who enjoyed it.

At any rate, the most important part is that ghost does not Burrp, and real husband does Burrp?

woo Burrp. I feel pretty powerful responding to (bowing down) Mr. Shah Rukh Khan's blog. Thanks intentblog.

Google Burrp!

Jag Sitar - The other sitar!

Dear SRK,
I saw your interview on AZN when you talked about Paheli being nominated for the Indian Oscar entry. I love Rajasthan and its colors, and I also liked your story.

I don't know if you have read any of Brazilian author Jorge Amado's books, but Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands is a novel that deals with a similar conflict that your Paheli does, and in fact, its story bones are the same: the woman faces a crisis in marriage and finds herself confronted with her husband in both a physical and ethereal form. In fact, they did make a movie of it long ago and it starred a then voluptuous, young Sonia Braga.

I hope you can hear criticism because it is meant with only the best of intent, and too because it is given from a westerner's eyes. For me, (and I am but a plebian movie-goer and in no way involved with the industry), the kiss of death was what I would call the Disney aspect, the Tinkerbell effect. Magic can happen in a film but we don't need to be hit in the head with fairy dust to know that it is there.

The movie Dona Flor did honor to the book, something that frequently doesn't happen when the bones of a book morphs into a screenplay and then all too often the guts of that story are left in scrap heaps on the editing room floor.

Dona Flor was a grand cartoon of living and being, but the audience wasn't showered with Disney powder to know that we were witnesses to the magic of a love fulfilled.

Dear, Shahrukh Khan
I am your biggest fan and so is my brother, and Mom. My brother went to the 2004 temptation concert and he loved it. He said you were so awesome and terrific.I loved your movie paheli. It was really good. I own almost all of your movies on DVD. All your movies are the best. You are the best actor in the world. Happy belated birthday!! I wish you had a very very Happy Birthday. I can't wait to see your upcoming movies KANK, DON, HNY in the theaters. Love you forever and always.
Lots of love,
Liza

Yeah, so this was your one-time hit to plug Paheli, and you will never read this, but I just wanna say, even though I dissed your Paheli nomination, my personal favorites of your films are Dil Se and Swades. And my kids' favorite is Badshah, which we all watched together (again) this evening.

My kids barely speak English let alone another language but slapstick/physical comedy is universal. We all love you as Badshah.

Dear Mr.Khan,
Hope you are doing well .

My name is Chinmayee Patnaik. I stay in North Carolina, United States of America. I am helping my brother-in-law, Mr.John Upchurch, who is an independent film maker, to make his first feature length film.

His films are very appreciated here, though in a small audience. He is planning to come to india in the first week of May, 2006. He is planning to make a hindi film with hindi cast. For that he would like to discuss options with you. He has a wonderful story that he wants to share with the world and wants to make it in india.

This may be not the way you are approached for films but since I am not in india I dont have any other option. The phone number listed in MTNL beside your name doesnot work also. I would appreciate it if you could let me know the name and contact number of your agent and he can give us the details.

My email address is chinmayee.patnaik@gmail.com

Thanks for your time,

Sincerely,
Chinmayee

Lots of love samia

First of all, one really appreciates your frankly admitting that you are not out to preach in general and specifically something that you may not be able to practice. At the same time, cinema is the best medium for highlighting issues which you have done so well in Paheli.

I stay two houses away from your borther-in-law, Vikrant Chibba in panchshila Park in New Delhi. Through him, I had once mooted a proposal to you to make a film on the plight of the career Devdas(somebody who has not found his vocation in life) which has not been made even once though the lover Devdas has been remade nine times.

I respect your prerogative to refuse but since then, I have found several articles written by Americans and prominent Indians inculding Abdul Kalam and Mahatma Gandhi on the subject(see link below). You have said that in your position, you can afford to try different things. For the sake of future generations, I hope you will try.

hi i am sundas from PAKISTAN i am your biggest fan i like your all movies not only one all movies . God bless you and your family. may you live long.i love you and miss you. you are the true king of BOLLYWOOD.

I was walking near the souk in Nizwa, Oman, and there you were, inside a picture frame in the window of a photo shop. You probably can claim more fans worldwide than most superstars.

holas, soy del Perù y soy una fanàtica del icono de actores de la india de SHARUKH KHAN, he is best!!!, I love soo much!!!

A really wonderful film. I like it very much. It seems to be a great wonder about love and let us dream...
Congratulations!

While not achieving an Oskar - don't matter much, an Indian film is not made to be a copy of Hollywood-films - it is something very orignal.

With best wishes to you and your family
from Germany

hi shahrukh khan.how are you?i wish that you spend your life funn and healthfull .i am one of million of you lovers.you are the most be powerfull actor's in india & absolutely in world.you maked for full romatic films.whish luck.bye

Hello Shahrukh
Thank you for having beeing with us in Paris for the Bollywood week. I don't know how to give you my thanks, so I use this blog. Thanks also to Rani, Preity, Mr and Mrs Chopra, it was a wonderful gift for us, really wonderful. Maybe you could see how people were happy (and also a little bit hysterical, you could see the impression you make on us !! You, Rani and Preity are absolutely magic!). You know that Tom Cruise was also in Paris the same day, around 1000 persons were waiting for him, we were between 4000 and 5000 for all of you. Maybe far more people are going to see MI III than Veez Zaara, but the love you can arouse is far bigger.
Let's hope to see you again in France
Thanks for all

Hello Mr. Khan

I have to confess that I DID look into the train schedule to see how long it would take me to get to Paris... I've done crazier things to see something I want to see... but halas... I was too late anyway.

I saw a short snatch of the interview you gave about how Indian film should change to make it more acceptable for Europeans. It get's me jumping... the film industry, dominated by America has decided on a length of film which is more comercial than artistical... make shorter films, then you get more viewings. It is exactly the greater length of Indian films, which allow to expand more, take things a bit more leasurely, or tell basically two storie (past and present for example) that appeals to many people (they also may deter many people initially... but then these people just don't get caught by the topic). Simply to keep the musical numbers... a feature I very much love in Indian films... the film needs to be longer.

I remember watching Devdas... first in the english shorter version. I hated it... rather... I felt that it was severely lacking something. Once I watched the original version I realised how much the english version had suffered from the editing...including musical numbers. Some of the most beautiful pieces had gone. Europenas may initially not be used to longer films... but people can be trained :p... we have a certain taste for fruit, because we don't know it any better and the first time we eat an exotic fruit fresh from the tree we are startled at its taste... but we soon learn to appreciate it, and even may avoide thenceforth the unripe stuff we get here. (ok, the example suffers a bit. Still...I like my films to be as tasty as a ripe fruit)

I very much hope that Indian cinema is not going to sacrifice what makes it special for Europeans. If I wanted to see a mainstream film I go to an American movie... but I don't. I rarely go to cinema these days because films have become so predictable. It usually takes me less than five minutes to determine who is going to be the sacrificial victime, the tragic boy etc - how the plot runs.

Since cinema cannot surprise me with plots, and I am heartily sick of films whose only virtue is that you get an explosion every half a minute, I am looking for something else... something that neither European nor American cinema can give me.

I want to be entertained... pure and simple... but entertained on an emotional level. I don't get that in European or American cinema much... whereas I get it in loads in the indian cinema. I expect an indian movie to have me dig deep into the tissue box :P On the other hand I don't need to see a couple rolling around the bed to know that they have a relationship. A look towards the bedroom would suffice. In that respect too our cinema has become boring... it has taken the mystery and excitement of the barely hinted, and has replaced it with the blatantly shown.
I think that you are aware of the strenth and weaknesses of Indian films. It's probably unecessary to tell you all this... exept that I am a potential customer and it might be interesting for you to know where the appeal of Indian films lie for Europeans.

Frankly I don't think you should produce films with an eye for the European market... it would bore the Indian audiences, and that is a much bigger market then the whole of Europe... and you should not edit films to fit the European demands for shorter films... if the result was a truncated version of Devdas.

I loved the LotR trilogy, I am sure you are aware of it. Quite obviously American and European cinema can and will accomodate long films. If there is an audience for them.
I don't think the acceptance of Indian films as they are is a matter of length. It's a matter of promotion. There aren't many cinemas in Switzerland showing any Indian films so it would be more important to see that every major city at least gets one cinema that does indian films on a regular bases.

I came to indian films through TV, because the German sender RTL2 showed several of your movies. They kept them almost full length (although they took some liberties with the editing of Swades) and it definitely added to the appeal. Today I would immediately go to the cinema to see one of your movies... even one I have seen previously on TV or have in my DVD collection. I might even shell out some money for a few of the other actors I have come to know through your movies ;)

(oh, btw try not to distribute through Eros... their DVD quality is often bad, menues cannot be accesses once the movie runs, or the DVD starts from the beginning again once you stopped it... and their intrusive advertising annoys me before I have even seen the film. One should at least be able to fastforward the bl...y intro!)

ok... that was a long rant and somewhat repetitive. That's the problem with bad pennies... blabbering... and an unrealistic optimism. Well, you might actually check in.

Until next time

Barbara

I am of Indian origin and I am in agreement with Barbara. Three hours is not too long for an Indian movie. Like her, I enjoy looking at these movies. I hope Bollywood do not try to make it more like the English ones because they will lose a lot of Indian (who are residing overseas) viewers and I am sure a lot of foreign ones too. Bollywood have to realize that viewers look for something different from the English movies which we find plentiful in Indian ones. I also look for clean entertainment. For me, entertainment is singing, dancing, costumes, jewelleries and sceneries. I get all of these things and more from the Indian movies.

Unfortunately, Sharukh Khan might never see these comments, because I doubt very much that he has the time for it. But I hope and pray that Indian movies will remain the same - full of clean entertainment.

hello SRK,i have watched many of your films and i must say they are just wow,but the thing is i dont find your crying roles convincing,i hope you work on that,im yet to watch paheli and believe me i cannot wait.

hi
Paheli was an amazing attempt Shahrukh. i liked the film the way it portrayed a very colourful dreamlike story of a woman. & i like it more because today we lack dreams, we don't even time & courage to dream in this fast world. thank you a lot on behalf of all those who love to see dreams for showing a wonderful dream after such a long time. i just loved the film.

salaam alikoum,
i'm rosa from Algeria, i have seen paheli more than 3 times and i still enjoy it, all my friends are very jealous beacause i have the DVD and the complete version of the movie is not available in Algeria. And also the subtitles here have no relation with the story.
anyway, i really like it, my best friend likes the songs so much that she asked me to lend her the CD of paheli's music for the wedding of her sister.
mister khan, you have made a wonderful film and your movies are very famous in my country, all the girls of my high school are crazy about you.
definatelly, for the algerian girl you are THE BEST.
insha Allah, you still have succes.
we really love you.

Dear Shah Rukh Khan

I am a fan from Germany and my name is Francoise.
Today, I would like to write you something also once (many-standardizes I receive an answer).
Since I have first time seen her/its/their films that, I am a fan from India and his/its films.
The mentality and the charm of the films sweep one right.
Also your person was not quite innocent at it.
I find her/it/them is a remarkable actor.
Her/its/their charm and her/its/their radiation come also per TV across.
I must, your eyes admit has fascinated that me the most.
In your films, they always transmit so much sorrow however also joy. That is great.
And I personally I don't find the Bollywood films too long and would not become it well they find whom the films because of the German film-industry extra would shorten. Her/its/their true fans much rather look at the long setting of the films. Bollywood films are films like Hollywood. Indian are better than that from America. Please, they never forget that.
So now still something in own (!?) matters.
I and the others German supporter would please us very much to can see you live in Germany also once.
Please, they don't forget request the Germans fans.

Mr. Khan,

Pahaeli was simply marvelous, yes it resembles a folk tale, yet it speaks clearly about a woman's heart. I felt like in a dream world while i watched it, May be one can see a paheli in every woman's heart. Yo uhave acted extreamly well in both of your roles, Paheli is one of my favourite films Mr. Khan.

hey!!! im Vanessa again.
Now that i have a dictionary in my hand i can write you in English..
Well.. the last time that i wrote you I didnt talk about your films but I want u to know that I really love each one.. BUT i think (in general) that the most visible characteristic of Indian movies, i think,is that they are a little dramatic, BUT in a good way because I like these anyway...
Other thing,I dont understand (dont think im
stupid) Why in Indian movies theres no any scene of somebody kissing to sb? jeje.. I just want to know for curiosity :S
I really hope u read this message and could answer me please...
I love u so much jejeje..
Bye
PD: sorry if i make a mistake...

hi Vanessa

There are movies where people kiss... but there are limits to what should be shown. (That has also something to do with the laws about pornography, I think)

SRK himself said he didn't do love scenes or kiss (on the mouth that is)... although his butterfly kisses on the necks of the ladies are for sure one heck of a lot more erotic than all that gropping and sucking you can see in western films nowadays... I can sooo do without that!

I personally find that exactly the absence of all that slobbering makes Indian films good to watch... especially since they are on the whole still a lot more erotic through the music scenes...
and that comes from a Swiss person who is not at all inhibited...;).

No matter what anybody else saya "YOU ROCK!!!"

good afternoon.
My name is Faviola , i ´m from Bolivian, i don´t speak hindi, and i speak english sow sowh.
If you could answered me because i love yours movies, y and i love your personajes""" i like the movies hindi, y if i could be in Indian will be perfet.

Dear Shah Rukh,
It was nice to read about your inspiration for 'Paheli' and moreso, the idea that comes with movies of this nature. Views and reviews are part of every profession and all are taken with positive attitude by you-which shows.
You correctly measured your task and actions by mentioning that you like to do things differently.
The moment you don't do things differently...you become part of 'them'. And, 'Them' is never unique.
...appreciate your efforts to have the Indian industry climb the pedestal in the global arena and with your kind of confidence level you do know that you don't need to be told this :)

With Warm Regards.

hie shahrukh...well paheli is one of those movies i hv watched more than twice..hehehe...but it has its own moments of emotions and dilemma and romance...and the entire backdrop of rajasthan is wonderful...somehow the lovestory struck me...the pangs of loneliness for a woman...esp after marriage is beautifully captured...
a fairytale concept...but atleast different from the mundane melodrama....

good work...even asoka was a similarly refreshing attempt...

HaPpY FaThEr´S dAy!!!!!!!!!! I love u sooooo much!!!!

A Salam-o-alaykum! This is maybe the first things I have read of you, actually from you. I am a 12 year-old and am from Pakistan. This comment is to say that you have shown in this blog that you are an excellent person in nature. I am a good student at my school who wants to learn step by step. I have a good father who has taught me about life and its meaning. It is temporary. We live only for Allah. I play football (soccer) a lot, and the best thing I love to do is act. I am a geek I think, but I love acting, above all. However, I do not think I will be an actor. I do it for fun. You have admired me so much, you can not imagine the effect. I try to copy your style when I am alone. What else can I say. I hope you read this comment. There is a question I have; were you famous from childhood or...? I know I cant recieve your email address, but I will keep posting comments on your work. Actually this is not a comment because I was not commenting on your movie Paheli, because I have not seen it.

I hope you are giving a good impression to Allah. I am also Hafiz-ul-Qura'an.

Dear Mr. Shah Rukh Khan,

I began watching your films last year when I was living in Crete, Greece. It was during a very low period in my life. My mother passed away, and I was also healing from my own injuries. It was very hard for me. By accident, I picked up an Indian film. I decided to take it home and since then, I've been watching your films and those of your peers.

Thank you for being a great mind and creating material that reaches the human heart. The love, and beauty in your films helped me find a sense of peace.

p.s. please stop smoking, you are forever holding a cigarette!!!!

Good Luck always,
Corfu

dear SRK,

today is ur 41th birthday, i wish u a nice career and a happy life.

It's been some time... the place has been pretty screwed up for a long time, but I am happy to see it's back on track. I am still working with a hefty dose of suspension of disbelief... but an incorrigible optimistic nature just pushes me to go on.

geez... it's been may the first that I last commented... and since then I have had the pleasure to see two new films of yours. I had to fly to London to see them... but heck... there's worse one can spend the money on... guns for example.

I liked KANK... despite the slightly uneven script. I've had no problem with the topic.. but then I am European... we have, maybe unfortunately, a different take on things.

On the whole I thought the character of Dev a nice break from the usual mr. nice guy. (leaving your bad boys aside that is... I love them all... especially your latest one)

What I found interesting is that the biggest bumbler and the most wonderful scene are both so closely linked. I thought that Dev's jealous outbreak... or rather his desperate passion by the riverside was... erm... more than just awkward, it was... just not on. It's unconvincing... all that musing of hair and nuzzling of neck... it doesn't work.
I respect your decision not to kiss an actress on the lips... but this time the scene really suffered for it, since you also seem to be reluctant to even make it appear that your character kisses the heroine.

And right on the heels of that follows one of the most wonderful, tender, erotic and still pure love scenes I have ever seen. It it has to come to that... then that is what I want to be shown... not more.

Another thing I didn't think worked... but there I blame the script... is the father - son relationship. I just didn't believe that a father whom we never see except when he growls at his kid, that he can turn around and be such a pal as he is when he tells his boy that violin players are cool. The SCENE is wonderful... but inconsistent... and therefore marred.

Don... Don is harder to grasp. For all its faults KANK is somehow more engaging than Don... but that is prolly a matter of genre. I think Don is a convincing criminal... deceptive. And Don certainly gains through a second viewing because all those little things one thinks are done wrong suddenly show how RIGHT they were done. I am talking about the problem of Vijay being Don being Vijay. While I believed that Vijay was Don there were several moments when I said... hold it... that's not how Vijay would act...not even as Don. And then it turns out that these are the masterstrokes of the game.. the tiny hints that lead up to the big discovery. On the whole the twist has been nicely prepared... it's not a deus ex machina... so I wasn't REALLY surprised at the end.
In my opinion it's an excellently acted character, but the movie fails to catch one on an emotional bases... not sure why really. Maybe it's the missing sniffle factor. In all other films where you played a bad character the sniffle factor was a lot higher... and thus the emotional engagement with the character. Maybe it is because Vijay as Vijay is... such a bumkin and one doesn't have a lot of time to bond with him. Once Vijay apparently replaces Don he is too distinct from the slightly oafish Vijay for any symbathy to carry over.

Still Don is fun to watch... some really smooth FX there... as already in Paheli btw. so it will be one to watch for many more times.

I Certainly do hope that Don will have a sequel.

Barbara

Hi Sharukh,

You are great in KBC "Kaun Banega Crorepati".

We all liked you in DON.

Love you

God bless you more.

Rajesh Sharma

Hi,

It was a good blog. Hope you write more. It would be rather interesting to know more of your thought processes. Honestly, I had not thought much of you; not being judgemental here, until one day, in some TV interview you spoke about passion and gave a metaphor of brushing. Even now, the movies that you do, I just enjoy the drama and perhaps the value that you add with your persona. Acting aside, looks aside, you are someone I like to watch. I'm not a tv enthusiast either, but I think, the oopmh factor you bring in KBC was entertainment to me.

I happened to come here to read Deepak Chopra and I'm facinated with your blog. It's fine to feel patriotic, patronize the Indian cultural cause etc, but, I think one must see beyond that. In the name of art, innovation and creativity, we dont need to prove to anyone but leave behind our posterity a sense of fearlessness, dignity and compassion. Hence it is imperative that we are recognised, respected and treated in equated terms. If you want to think in terms of taking Indian Cinema to a different level as in global, you must leave emotions and feelings aside and work like a enterprise. You have to identify a team, make a plan, chalk out a budget, define a strategy and BLITZKRIEG. Being a ambassador, envoy, oscar nominations and even wins are only transactions. That way, the objective would be achieved perhaps in 3 generations from now. I believe, way to go, is positioning, branding and gung-ho determination to make it happen. I think you are gung-ho. So go for it Shahrukh!
Hey, last but not the least, I have categorically chosen not to criticize you (your acting) here ;)). That will be done one-on-one only.

Hi My KING KHAN you know I love you and your family so very much..Can i have your e-mail please ... Hi Mr.Khan,
Good one. But I really wish for such essays from you in the future revealing your thoughts and analysis about the out-n-out commercial flicks like 'MAIN HOON NA'.Think u got me, right ?

Wish u luck in all your future assignments.

Arindam

Oh Shahrukh dear!! I love you a lot!! I never miss any one of your movies. You were looking fabulous in “Chak De India”!! Also you look hot in a fairness cream ad. I watched it on television. BBC news site is telling you as “Bollywood’s Tom Cruise”!!! Shahrukh, Shahrukh…..simply you’re great man. God bless you.

Dear Shahrukh Khan
I am a small time writer and a great fan of yours. In fact I am not only fan I am AC of yours. I have watched most of your movies many times. I became your fan from Dewana itself. I always wanted you to remain superstar. I feel very hurted when people criticise you. I like your passsion towards your work and your devotion towards your family. I adore your love life with Gauri. It is reallly worth emulating.
I recently watched your OM Shanti Om. I don't bother what critics have to say about this film. But you really messed up, budddy. It could have been far better. Before interval your movie was going extremely well. Why did you let die the simple Om. He had really won our heart. You could have ended in a great love story. Great love story happen, don't they? Even you if you have killed simple Om, why did you bring ghost story, you could have managed without ghost. Rationality makes more sense. You could have allowed villian to take charge of the story for a while. You remember you have hinted to him, in your meeting with him that you are afraid of fire. You could have allowed the villian to use this information against you for a while and then made a happy ending.I am sure that you read your story before working on it. Then why so mess, Shahrukh? The movie may become a hit but it could have been a blockbuster, almost like DDLG. I really don't agreee with the writer. He terribly mixed up the story. Be careful in future, Sir? We expect excellent movies from you. And I know you are hugely talented. Please deliver us the best, sir!
All the best
Your AC
Pankaj Kishore

How time flies! Since I commented last at the beginning of this years I’ve been to India to finally get a little more understanding. It was a valuable experience… and I certainly now watch many movies with a different eye as I can recognise places. I have come to understand only a little about India… mostly that what we think India is… isn’t.
Two more movies have come out since and I have had the luck to be in London for the Chak De India premiere… and made the mistake to hide behind my camera instead of just watching. There are moments when immediacy can only be captured by the memory… not by any electronic means. When I look at the short movies I took now… I don’t feel closer to the event than if I was watching any other short scrap of news on youtube. Next time… I will just look. At least I didn't ask for an autograph.
As for Chak De… I am not at all a sportsfan… I hardly ever watch sports on TV. I went to see it three times in the cinema alone… and each time I got caught up in it again. A wonderful movie… very compelling in what it has to say… touching on so many things and avoiding entirely to preach.
People are strange… it seems that you can’t ever meet their standards. If your acting is… well… acting… then they complain you’re over the top (which I rather enjoy)… if your acting is so natural that it looks like a walk through they complain you weren’t acting at all. Well… I enjoyed the subtlety of it in Chak De… as much as I enjoyed the ‘ham’ acting in Om Shanti Om.
A wonderful movie, Om Shanti Om… full of drama, fun, love, and pain. The end is pretty heartrending… one wonders how Om will be able to go on. After all he practically loses his love a second time… and I can’t feel that the living Sandy is really a replacement for Shanti. There is a bit too much of a father in the kiss Om gives her on the forehead… An old soul in a young body now.
Btw… it just strikes me that for somebody whom people claim is always overacting you die pretty quietly. It’s almost scary really… how silent and subtle your characters pass from life to death… and how dead your characters look. It’s so much more creepy really than all that exhaling and neck dropping one can so often observe.
But back to OSO. The film has some great moments… but it also has a few flaws. One is that Om Kapoor is a bit too much of a jerk to begin with… the scene with the thermometer is … plain painful really… and his change as he remembers a bit too… smooth maybe. I guess there must have been some additional material after Deewani… for the cut to the house of the mother is very rude… even technically rude. The music is like chopped off and the transition… awkward to say the least. I would have wished for a moment of confusion within Om… a bit more time to come to grips with the situation…but I guess some material had to have been sacrificed. The problem is that the audience has far more troubles identifying with Om Kapoor than with Om Prakash… and there is not quite enough time for the character to develop…or rather too little time and too much change.
Personally I think that although you acted more naturally in the present day scenes, you failed more because where you tried to show Om Kapoor as a jerk it was too… jerky. He’s plain nasty… not thoughtless, not inconsiderate, but downright mean… and a person like that doesn’t just twist around and reform because he has acquired some memories from a previous life. He’s more likely to just dismiss the memories. So the abrupt character changes are the biggest flaws in OSO. Still… I’ve been watching it now for the umteenth time now and I still sit in front of the screen with a huge grin. The big howlers have by now worn off… except for Akshay… that’s so corny I still have to grin about it… but the more subtle moments are still bringing a smile to my face. From your last four movies I would say the rating goes nicely chronologically.. Least I like KANK, Don and Chak De are about level and OSO is pretty much at the head of it.
I’ve been thinking up stories for you... one with you as the Jinn of Ala’ud’din’s lamp… a modern day person suddenly cursed to be the Jinn of the lamp… and finding it no fun at all. I think you’d find a lot of comic possibilities… and quite a bit of drama… but the story has gone beyond Suhana’s Bedside Story by now. I guess you never even got to see that one… let alone read it to Suhana.
Well… I got my story back… (computer crash) and I will definitely script it…After almost two years of gestation it might finally turn out halfway ok. But enough of my rambling…I don’t guess you’ll see any of this… but hope always dies last. It’s dreams that keep us going… so I dream… and write the stories I’d like to see. If my characters will never be played by you they still live in the cinema of my mind… fuelled by you as inspiration.
The year is at an end… faster than expected, as time slips through my fingers with increasing speed. May the next year be as fruitful for you as this one has been… and bring you many more exciting moments. May you never lose your joy in making movies… and we will never lose our joy in watching them.

i think you mean "SOME THINGS HAVE TO BE SEEN TO BE BELIEVED...."

i think you mean "SOME THINGS HAVE TO BE SEEN TO BE BELIEVED...."

oh my dear shah rukh,
i cant tell you how much i love you. i can go crazy thinking about you. i can talk, think and see all your films and all about you all the time.
i read your biography and i really liked your love story. it was just like in films. i have watched all yours films ... atleast from 2000
as am just 13 so i haven't watched all your films before 2000. but i have watched deewana 3 times.
honestly the first part of the film was a little boring mainly because you wasn't there. but as you entered the frame i got some kind of energy. overall it was a fantastic film. recently i watched OSO. i was AMAZING. i just love it sooooooooooo much!!! i am so happy that u got the tag for the sexiest man in asia. you were looking fabulous in Dard-e-Disco and you deserve the prizes as i can imagine how hard you must have worked for that. i am from mauritius so there are not many programs from india diffused here. so we dont get the programs and if we get it it is delayedby 1-2 yrs. i am very sad that i cant watch KBC2. i want to watch it so much!!! i watched koffee with karan season 1 recently. you were looking fantastic, absolutely stunning.
i hope you give your best in that new program "are you smater than fifth grade". i have lots of dreams. but my most desirous dream is htat one day i can meet you. i hope it will be fulfilled. i love you sooooo much that whenever somebody talks ill or critisize on you i get irritated.i really dont like people telling you what you should do like abou your personal life or about smoking. honestly i find you really cool when you smoke and smile. but it is also bad to smoke too much. but i am not going to tell you what you should do. do what make you and your feels happy because when you are happy i am happy too. Don't bother about what people say just listen to heart. i dont miss any occasion to watch t.v whenever there is something about you even if it is only for one minute. your life that how a ordinary man became the sweatheart and superstar of the whole world is very inspiring.it really proves that dialogue: "itni shiddat se maine tumhe paane ki koshish; ki hai ke har zare ne mujhe tumse milane ki sazish ki hai; kehte hai ke agar kissi jiz ko dil se chaaho; to pure kainaat lag jaati hai tumhe usse milane me" oh my god it! it is so wonderful. i read that book atleast 5 times.Whenever i watch your films i cry a lot because it seems that its reality, that you rare not acting; your soulful eyes just touch my heart. and your dimple... whenever you smile... i don't know how i get a smile automatically on my face. i wish you more sucess in your life and i also wish you and your family a happy and full of sucess life. and if ever you have read this(i know that Superstar ShahRukh Khan is very busy) please post something even one word will do just to hint us that you read our comments. i love love love u SRK soooooooooo much!!!
