Right Wing, Left wing, Libertarian, Authoritarian or what ever you are, here is a chance to find that out.
After three posts in Intentblog my experience with this forum is mixed. After spending time blogging on Canadian politics and having fun poking at the Conservatives here is an opportunity to blog on real issues, but then old habits die hard. So here is something to have fun with. The political compass is a good tool that will show your true political colours and even plot it in a graph for you. Try it out and let me know where you stand. So to start with me this is what I scored
Economic Left/Right: 1.25
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 1.28
While you play with it, I’m gonna pack for my Chicago trip, Wolves here we come, Go Leafs Go!

I am more Libertarian/Left than I thought. I was basically the exact same spot as the Dalai Lama - ok with me, in theory!
(although it made me think afterwards about what I think as ideal vs. what I feel is practical - do you know what I mean? i did tend to answer more based on my ideals, particularly on the economic questions.)
When I first took it, I was just right there, between Gandhi and Dalai Lama. That was a shock because I have been known as a Blue Liberal (liberals are red and Conservatives are blue in Canada). I still think I should be a bit on the left, but my views on Counter terrorism, Crime, Globalization, two tier health care pushes me to the right. A few strong ideas can make a difference, but this is a good tool to compare where we stand with others.
I'm close to the Dalai Lama as well.
I got this score:
Economic Left/Right: -1.63
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.13
I am basically a centrist- a nationalist Libertarian and pro globalization, pro free market supporter with sufficient govt regulations.
I am surprised this index ranked me on the 'Economic Left' side. I am ashamed at myself:)
extreme left on economic issues and far right on religious one
Lk,
You are close to be a centrist, you are in the radius of being there. You are a Progressive social conservative, which is fine.
The best part is ask your friends to do this and see if they are what you thought them to be!
Sachin,
I couldn't stop myself from saying this, it makes you a Communist:)
Jokes apart, you can't get a result like that, there is none on this chart for religious, the test will give you a graph with points on it. But with the graph we can predict to an extent on most things.
Yea Vijay, I am close enough to be a centrist. (Though it would've been cool if i can be on that 4th Quartile where only a few people get to be :) )My friends are all hardcore Liberals.. A centrist like me is a neo concervative for them. anyway, I would like to see where they will be on that chart..
Well, its all about point of views.. The greatest point of view is the point of view that can understand all other point of views...
thanks for your comments,
-Lovin
Left/Right -4.75

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -0.26
Vijay,
Thanks for the political compass. It was very enlightening! I forwarded the link to a few friends. Here are my scores.

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian - 3.18

I am at
Economic Left/Right: -6.38
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.51
Hello Vijay and Everyone,
Looks like I am also very close to the Dali Lama.
Interesting test..peace ruth
Attention Contributors:
If you get to read this comment, then I reccomend that you take the politcal compass test. It will give us an idea of where our contributors and commentators stand. It might teach us a lesson or two on improving the site. Thanks Mallika for your score.
Thanks Vijay,
Never saw the test before. My spot on the grid was the same as the Dalai Lama
The Political Compass
Economic Left/Right: -3.63
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.85
My score: Eco 5.5; Lib 5.69. Sounds centrist to me although I didn't take the time to read about the results. Also, I dont really understand econmic issues so I'm not sure I gave the right answers. For example I have no idea if controlling inflation is more imporant than controlling unemployment and I've already forgotten how I answered this.
Great Post Vijay!! Very interesting test, Great questions. I thought the way they structured it was very good. Yes, in today's era it is not as simple as it was a century back...left or right.
It's way too complex. You yourself had mixed answers didn't you? I found the same for myself.
I think it feels great to say "I'm near Dalai Lama" :). Great man he is!!! I'm very near that, like Mallika and some others. I'm definitely affected by the Unscrupulous corporates raping the world in the name of creating a better world, only for themselves. They got be watched. My burning question has always been Why Why Capitalism couldn't be clean, conscientious, ethical, fair, compassionate, thinking of humanity as a whole first. May it's an Oxymoron. All those words with capitalism? Is it Really so Difficult, Is it Really Impossible? Maybe not.
It's been proved though with time that communism is only good on paper taking the human nature into account. If Capitalism is by far the best of all....why don't we make it stronger for the survival and betterment of our species.
Neo cons and Neo libs eh? All neo neo :) Yeah, will be interesting to see what it will be like a century from now.
Thanks Vijay again for letting the bloggers here to have a go at it!!
Peace&Love...Sachin
i'm right between gandhi and friedman....with a score of:
Economic Left/Right: 0.13
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.10
more centrist than i thought i would be on economic issues. no surprise on the social dimension.
I took the test 1 1/2 years back. I will see if I can find the scores. I came on par with gandhi on economic side and more libertarian than him on social side. I will see if I can find the saved scores. I am too lazy to take the test again.
Your political compass
Economic Left/Right: -9.63
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.26
Further left than my masters, Ghandi and Dalai Lama. Only wish I had an ounce of their wisdom.
Economic Left/Right: -5.13
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.51
I wish there was a fifth option that says "neutral".
The prime problem with labels is that they deflect the debate/issue from being judged as right/wrong, dharmic/adharmic, ethical/unethical and instead allow those who have ulterior motives [behind the agenda that they bring to the table] to either trivialise your view point or marginalise you with the smear value of the label by categorising the 'word' as an invective or vituperative.
Economic Lft/Rght..-5.63
Social Lib/Auth..-5.18
Interesting....I would have guessed myself about exactly where I fell on the Liberatarian/Authoritarian access, but am somewhat surprised that I fall quite so far to the Left/Right access ( as -5.18 places me just South of Gandhi)..I would have guessed myself falling closer to left of center....
guess that falls in line with my Canadian upbringing!
How ironic is the following article...as 'they say' "what goes around, comes around." I guess many native American Indian bands are indeed getting the last laugh.
"The investigation threatens to ensnarl many outside Congress as well, including Interior Department officials and others in the Bush administration who were courted by Mr. Abramoff on behalf of the Indian tribe casinos that were his most lucrative clients."

...the s**t just keeps flowing from the Bush Gov't...the only way for the USA to demonstrate to the rest of the world, just how sorry it is for the huge policy mistakes over the last few years, is for the laws of USA to throw as many politicians in jail as possible, including our top politician! George Shrub..I mean Bush!
It is looking brighter by the day!
