Femme Fatale

Your uncle blows up the World Trade Center. So, make lemonade.

Wafah bin Laden is Osama Bin Laden's niece. The twenty-something socialite (who understandably wants to be known by her mother's maiden name, Dufour) is trying to become a pop star.

Bizzare.

She's got the legs, is working on the voice, and seems to have the requisite intellect we require of our pop stars. (For example, she thinks Dick Cheney is the US Secretary of State.) She even has the clothing:

Owns a pair of open-toe shoes with very high red stiletto heels. Calls them, her "whore shoes." "That is so anti-Muslim!" she squeals.

The writer of the story spends most of his time telling of Wafah's struggle to be seen as a "normal" American - you know, normal like Britney Spears.

For me, the story is fascinating for a different reason. The interesting part is not Wafah's fight to become a successful pop star DESPITE her uncle Osama. No, the interesting part is that she just might become a pop star BECAUSE of her uncle Osama. Her uncle is the gimmick that got her the PR guy. it's what got her the story in GQ. But, could it actually lead to success?

We all know that infamy can be leveraged.

William Hung. Jayson Blair. Monica Lewinsky.

But, if Wafah Bin Laden, niece of public enemy #1, becomes successful, that's some unprecedented shit.

In her own words:

"How cuckoo is that?"

If she becomes a model/pop star, I would say that is the biggest hit that damn fool will ever receive. Much more than anything which US can inflict. I wish she becomes popular just for spite. Also if the uncle is bad why should she be treated with any disdain. She has the right to aspire for anything.

She has a right to be who she is and that in and of its self is very beautiful!

Hey folks, let's cut her some slack. She didn't choose to be his niece. She's just trying to make the most of what she considers her assets. She didn't choose to think like that either. Most of us don't get to choose the programming we got uploaded into our brains either. If we want to criticize someone, let's begin with ourselves.

I definitely agree that she should be cut some slack as an individual...I am more interested in this as a PR/marketing phenomenon. PR agents are always looking for an angle...the more bizarre/bigger the angle, the easier it is to get some press. When the angle becomes public enemy #1, the whole game gets bizarre!

Throughout the GQ article, Wafah's PR agent continues to refer to her as Wafah Bin Laden. Whenever they meet a celebrity or a potential contact, she is Bin Laden. She corrects him each time with her new last name, Dufour. It is, of course, a shtick, designed to get the most shock value possible, in the hopes that this will lead to buzz.

Wafah may be a great, talented artist, but it is bizarre and amazing to me that an attempt is being made to capitalize on the most hated names in the Western world.

Creating spitefull wishes against Osama isn't going to resolve anything in a good manner.

Dear Sandeep,
This Wafa piece is Old News. So what's your problem if Wafa wants to achieve fame and wealth? Is she the first one in the glam world to seek fame riding on the back of some already famous relative? LOL. Almost everyone I know in Hindi Movies has a Star parent/relative. Even in Politics, established leaders promote their own blood. I could name names and it would make a lot of people uncomfortable.....so what's the big deal here? Hope you get inspired enough to come up with a more interesting topic than this in the New Year.

Cheers!

What Osama did, 9/11 is horrible: period.

But, how many Middle Eastern, amongst many others, governments have we, covertly and overtly, thrown.

Osama's attack represented what? It was certainly not a military or population objective, if that was the case, NOBODY, would show up in the streets of New York tomorrow night, and the Pentagon being hit was not going to 'destroy' the U.S. military juggernaut.

Symbolism, it is how we interpret life our very selves, right? Signs and symbols and all that jazz, I am no Jung nor Freud but I think it is basically correct, language is in fact an artificial, and possibly superficial, device with which to communicate to one another, blah, blah, blah. . .

The World Trade Center, capitalism r us, and the Pentagon, the ‘guiding light,’ that oversees the might that makes us capitalists: check the irony there heh, might making money right, (oh, and of course our gluttonous self-interest that so easily convinces ourselves that the ‘American Way’ is the way to go. . .) are but the ultimate symbols that Osama attacked.

In plain words, IN PRINCIPLE, the difference between the rhetoric of Osama, Spartacus, Enrique (the South American native who fought those ‘evil’ Spanish “Catholic’ conquistadors), Robespierre, and untold countless others, and that of pacifists life most of us, Jesus, me, Dr. Chopra, Gandhi, MLK, and many of the ‘bloggers’ here at intentblog, is that the former reacted violently, while us, the latter, react peacefully; and thus far we know what happens to the peaceful ones. They get shot by their own people, they get crucified, assassinated, or otherwise marginalized by the ‘powers that be.’

As I have stated in other blogs, battle cries such as ‘War on Terror,’ and, ‘you dirty Commie,’ etc., are, virtually impossible to combat with an audience with a 30-second attention span. But, the plain fact is, you give me Oral Roberts, Pat Robertson, Jimmy Swaggart, and whoever else they can possibly dig up, you give me a half an hour nationally televised debate with ‘their asses’ and I will make mincemeat outta them!

Scratch that!

The words of Jesus Christ will make mincemeat outta them!!!

Osama asked us, “get your soldiers and weapons off of our soil, our land, and our very bodies, and get your filthy wooden idols and false gods out of my sight.” We didn’t!

Do you want to speak of ‘just war doctrine’ now. . .?

The bombing, being a tragic event beyond comprehension; did not happen in a vacuum! Some crazy Arab did not just wake up one day and say, ‘gee, I wonder how I can get the most powerful military force on the face of the planet mad at my people so they can come and burn my brother’s body, and invade my neighboring country. . .”

This dude, Osama, has been at war with us for the very reason Jesus entered Jerusalem and overturned the tables of buyers/sellers, and moneylenders. . .

Because we are selling the earth, our very bodies, to one another just like a prostitute!

Navin, I don't think Sandeep has a problem with her?
Why do you think that?

Hi Saskcarp,
I quote Sandeep:
"But, if Wafah Bin Laden, niece of public enemy #1, becomes successful, that's some unprecedented shit."
"Wafah may be a great, talented artist, but it is bizarre and amazing to me that an attempt is being made to capitalize on the most hated names in the Western world."
"The interesting part is not Wafah's fight to become a successful pop star DESPITE her uncle Osama. No, the interesting part is that she just might become a pop star BECAUSE of her uncle Osama. Her uncle is the gimmick that got her the PR guy. it's what got her the story in GQ. But, could it actually lead to success?" Unquote.

After reading the above quotes, doesn't it become clear to you that Sandeep is uncomfortable with the fact that Wafa is using her uncle's (Osama Bin Laden)name to achieve success in showbiz. I think Sandeep's post has inadvertantly given more publicity to both Wafa and Osama which has negated the very point he was trying to make. I don't see anything out of the ordinary in either Wafa or the fact that she's the relative of someone famous/notorious.

Anyway, this is not such an important topic that I should give it more attention than I already have. Good luck to all.

Cheers!

I thought he meant that it was "interesting" how things karmically work out . In the sense that Osama attacked the American way of life and now his own Niece is using his notoriety to achieve the very thing Osama wanted to crush. And will she make it? Only if her talent and intention is real. His second post indicated to me that he has no problem with her.
When I look at it this way the story seems quite an interesting one.
That's what I thought anyway?
Cheers!

An Ode To Wafah Dufour Bin Laden

What’s so funny in this thing
Osama’s niece got everything
She got full lips, she got long hair
Her legs are long, a lovely pair
She got smile, she got style
She has her own lovely flair
People love her everywhere
She got Bin Laden’s blood
She looks a little like him
She’s his niece, so what?

She’s a beauty, a beauty queen
She is no fatto, she is lean
Her body is an artist’s dream
She is a shining love beam
Her beauty will make you scream
A sweet pie topped with cream
She’s a beauty, she’s a queen
Osama’s niece you dream in dreams

Bin Laden is our enemy number one
But she beats in beauty every one
She is our hearts’ queen
No one can stand before her beauty
She is a cutie, so very pretty
She is no Bin Laden Wafah
She is Wafah Dufour
A beautiful femme fatale
Steals our hearts all in all
Bin Laden’s niece got everything
Her looks will make your heart sing

Had her pic. not been posted by Sandeep (along with his post), this certainly wouldn't have prompted so many comments & ..certainly not a poem devoted to her!. You know what I mean!!

Well, Wafah has nice legs. But does an old man like me really need to see this kind of thing giving me a heart attack?

And why is every guy whose named Sandeep insane?

wafah is a beautiful name. it means fidelity in love or plain loyalty ... the word's beauty is killed by the english words i have used, but it means somewhat that, just deeper and more emotional.

But her struggle may not be that simple, we should at least have some sympathy for her. If it's so easy to get beaten up as a asian here, she has definitely more risks, not matter how much she can do to show her in favour of US and against her uncle.

Regardless of who her daddy is or whatever, real talent doesn't any training and is undeniable, and yeah, it's sexy too.
Love this post for sure!
