Gotham Chopra - December 22, 2005

It's 230 in the morning here in LA where I live. Can't sleep. This has been a re-occurring problem for sometime for a variety of reasons. I usually manage through the night by reading, meditating, combing through box scores of my favorite teams, or anthropologically styly watching late-night television. Really I'll do anything to try and not think about what it is that is keeping me up.

These days I have a new night-time activity. I read all the comments on intentblog. I read your compliments, your criticisms, your poetry, and prose. I see people call me a pundit and punk, a man on a mission and a moron. I've learned not to become attached to either extreme - to observe without attachment and always keep moving forward.

But if I might at 230 in the morning here in LA where I live, stop for one moment and say something, it is:thank you. This blog has been an interesting experiment for my family and the friends that we qualify as our family. Speaking only on behalf of myself, I am grateful for its existence, where I can let out my own unfiltered voice, express my ideas, my excitement, and my rage. This blog was here when my grandmother passed away which was a difficult time for us and it has been here for me through other difficult, personal times as well. I've been very honest on this blog and expressed my emotions as truthfully as I can - if even concealing at times their true source.

Someone once told me that we all have public, private, and secret lives. I'm proud to have left pieces of my public and private life here, to share them with you all and have you share some of yours back. Our secret lives - sometimes they are even a secret to ourselves. They keep us up at night. They keep us from ourself - or maybe they are ourself - or maybe it's just 2:50 AM now and I need to watch more TV again.

Whatever the case: thanks.

Dear Gotham, thank you. Public, private or secret, you're as honest as you can. I truly appreciate that. I wish you the best in finding out what's keeping you up at night. Much love to you!

Gotham,

Shekhar and you are more transparent than anybody at Intentblog. I like reading whatever you write.
Keep writing. You have your unique style of expressing that is very freshening.

I do not believe in Reiki and all the associated nonsense with it. But if you do, many readers here will send you all kind of Reiki and those 'soft energy vibrations' to have restful nights.

Cheers
Tanzan Senzaki

PS: You are not the only one who remains awake at night into the long hours. You have company in me.

Tanzan, you made me smile. Yes, I'm sure readers here will gladly send Reiki and softness to whoever can't sleep at night. Do you want some... :) The good thing about the Earth being round is that nobody is alone when awake at night. Half a globe is always there for you.

definatly, going back through the pages of
some diaries, unique karma and dharma's ;)
ah, well, the criterium, Woulda Coulda Shoulda ;)

nice to see a functional family, sharing some good spiritual vibrations, keep up the great work,
with passion,
love,
na zdrowie,

Thank you for sharing Gotham and all the others who open up to this "window"...sharing your stories and lives. Interesting, to say the least but it goes well beyond writing here, the sense of togetherness with so many whom we've never met in person or haven't spoken to otherwise...how cool is that!?

I think many of us could use a good night sleep zzzZZz ZzzzZZz ZZZzzzz.

Hope your sleep tonight is restful.

Peace,
Cinda

Hey Gotham,

Agree with you on everything about the blog. I wrote my first piece about being in India with Mom and Dad, your parents, etc. It was primarily intended to be a chance to share the experience with the family and document the journey. I was overwhelmed with the responses and like you have totally enjoyed having a place to write my thoughts and opinions.

My favorite part is it gives me a chance to keep up with what you, your Dad, and Mallika are up to being halfway around the world. And hopefully you all are more involved in what I am thinking and what I am up to. I also wish Kanika would blog more about her life with Aanya.

So thanks to you and Mal for putting this together for our family, and for being so active on it. The blog really helps me feel connected with everyone.

Thanks also to all the commenters. Much like Gotham, your comments really mean a lot to us, positive and negative. We're both grounded enough to stay one step removed from taking the attacks personally - and also prepared to bite back if someone goes below the belt. Humor has always and will always be our strongest weapon!

Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone! I will miss the snow - but will definitely enjoy the warm weather and nice beaches in Bali! I'll try to blog from over there. The Island of the Gods, as they call it- also the only Hindu one in Indonesia, is truly inspiring. Should get me renewed for the new year!

Bharat

sorry, don't know how that happened. guess i need more sleep than i thought!

cinda

wishing you inner-peace - and joy, and that the deepest desires of your heart - are made manifest - in the coming New Year.

bye.

I was wondering why I stay awake at night for the last so many days and then I read that Shekhar also does not sleep and now it is Gotham too. Seems some shift is taking place for some people some where.

BTW, Gotham, what is your age? Because I know when the sons are around 27-28 and the fathers are around 55-56 this is a very difficult period for both. The former find it difficult to enter into this now-not-so-ideal-world-of-their-childhood/youth-days while the latter who are by now accustommed to its enjoyments as well find it difficult to leave.

Moreover, it is as if there is only on space, if one is to enter the other is to leave and so that they find themselves on collision course with each other on many a issue. It will end when the former will be around 30 and the later around or past 60.

Any takers?
Harb.

Dear Gotham; nothing worse than not being able to sleep! Insomnia has to be the worst thief of sleep.

Here's a trick I was taught years ago; it works...sounds silly, but don't knock it until you try it.

To clear your mind: as you lay in bed; teeth together closed; try this: try suspending your tongue in the center of your mouth; without touching the top, bottom or sides.

The object of this excercise, is to stop your thoughts; and think of the tongue.

You'll be surprised, on how fast you fall asleep; because you'll be concentrating on the tongue and nothing else, it relax's you, etc.

well, all you can do is try it; it does work.

AS you thank us; we thank you Gotham; no one else here; has such raw energy and honesty as you seem to bare; I admire you for that.

Is it your knee injury keeping you awake, aching?

Yes Harb, at our side of the globe this is now really happening. My husband is 60 now, me too this year and both our children (son and daughter) have found their own way in life (both in the beginning of their thirties) but everytime i reach a certain age, life starts again for me and never ever have i felt so good in my life than at this moment!
Life begins at sixty :)

Sorry, I thought it was not posting because when I pressed post nothing happened, I think before it would change screens real fast and you knew the post went through, now nothing happens when you click post.ruth

Ruth, after you click post, wait a few seconds, then scroll to top of the page, click the HOME button. This is how I've been posting the past day. IF you click HOME, and scroll down to comments; see if your post, did post; if not, just click home again, to refresh the page, rather than clicking the refresh button.

Hi Mieke, dear friend!! well, I'll be fifty in August; and I heard life began at fifty; so I"m counting on it to be true!(silly smiles.)

I googled Harb's-Self Designed Universe book; and got a page with Harb, and you, my Spirits site; and Intent,,,,how cool!! lol

North

Hi North,

Cool hé, and yes life begins at fifty but if you really really want it deep inside, life begins NOW

Look again at those beautiful kittens.
Love and friendship everlasting
Mieke

Hi Mieke : ) Yes, NOW is the intent.

Prior to my attendance to this blog Mieke; I was missing a critical link; that would compass my thought patterns in a more defined way of NOW_Positivity, in an adequate fashion.

I have since been finding pebbles of knowledge, that has helped me surpass my questions and some doubts.

I have come a long way, since yesterday.

North

North,

For more results google the book by putting (") as "Self Designed Universe". You may even find more of your own site..

Hi Harb, thanks; do the quotation marks, define the search more?

Just knowing I don't have to have surgery on my arm; I notice such a huge significant release. I am breathing more relaxed, not almost controlled; as stress limits breathing naturally, agreed?

I am learning soO much! And, in 2 more days; I have TIME, to read Angel's "Illness as a Challenge" book; and I anticipate and even yes, expect; another lift to my spirit's knowledge-base. My sponge(brain) is not as absorbant as it once was; from personal cluttering on the floor of my mind's intent.

Nothing else compares; like learning the: A, B, C's of one's own built-IN, Console(Spirit.)

if i may suggest a home ready, powdwered camphor in til oil soaked in the gap between the toes and nails of the feet is shown to work wonders for sleeplessness.

Castor oil is also recommended as a very effctove stress relaxant...in india, we get a product called franch oil which is used effectively on the crown of the head as a castor oil extract.

tx north for that tongue talk...very useful...

Hi Sundar, when I lived in Alberta years back; I used to go to a Chinese Herb store in Calgary a few times a year; and bought camphor oil in a teeny bottle; was expensive; it was gently rubbed into the temples. It gave a nice, cooling and almost sedative sensation to ease tension there.

And, you are welcome for the tongue talk; it really does work; I've used it many times. It helps to blank the thoughts that keep one's mind from slumbering.

Another trick I learned from a north-american Indian old woman, in the late 70's; was this; for tension headache: Press the middle finger of any hand; onto the centre of the pituitary area. Without pressing too hard; just apply enough pressure; that soon you feel a relief of pressure; it's amazing. Not sure if it's to shift the mind over matter awareness or not; but, it does work on minor headaches and stress-related tension(wink.)

North

tx North.

P.S. for the tongue trick; laying on the back is important. IF gastritis is a problem; put a flat pillow or plank under the head of the mattress; will keep reflux down; which also disturbs sleep.

I try not to consume foods after 6 P.M. to avoid reflux.

IF you smoke, Gotham; uh oh, time to quit, nasty for the stomach, not just the lungs; and it's amazing how a sick tummy can keep one awake!

Gotham,
Thanks for being honest and continuing to open your heart with us. We all benefit from such courage.

Have you ever had a friend who you could share anything with? Even your secret self? What an experience...
And have you ever wondered what life would be like if you had no secrets at all?
I have.

Sometimes I think part of my dharma is to become an open book. Anyone can turn the pages and take what they like... and leave the rest. As for myself, I wouldn't have to bother about pretending or hiding or trying to become...

I think perhaps that's when we truly just love and enjoy each other.

Love, Kristin

Gotham,

If you cannot sleep it is because you have something you need to do or some thought or idea to process. Like there was something on the Blog you needed to read and “It” was not going to let you sleep till you did.

I have been having the opposite problem of late. I can not stay awake. Yet I do not go to sleep usually. I suddenly get this feeling of extreme exhaustion, so I lay down. Next thing I know I am dreaming or having visions. This goes on for say 20 or 30 minutes and then I come out of it. It does affect my ability to work sometimes; it also gives me great insights, which at the moment do not pay the bills.

On Tuesday I had a first around noon I got that feeling laid down. Next thing I knew I was out of my body and lucid. This time it was different.

My first thought upon my realization was that "This is close as you get". I started praying, this is the first time I have ever thought to pray when in this state of mind.

I put my pseudo hands together kind of, and they formed a golden pyramid. Then as I was praying for the world, I began drifting towards a source, it was not a light, it was like pulling me, I don't know how to describe it. I thought this is kind of like dying, but I didn't really mind at the time so that tiny little fear thing that tried to rise up did not. Normally that would disrupt everything, and I just let go…

I don't really know what happened after that, but next thing I know there is this Blue White globe floating in front of me representing Earth, and I start saying like a mantra, almost like a command. Peace on Earth, Peace on Earth, Peace on Earth...

So that ended, next thing I know is I have this book; it is a familiar book in that realm, but not this one. I am amazed how I can read the text which seems external to me, I have to actually focus on it. Like it is not being generated from my mind. So I am trying to read it back to someone that is here (there is no one there actually) to get the information back.

So the event was unusual in that I have never thought to pray, when lucid or out of my body.

I remember crying to, and thinking I wish I could cry when I was awake.

These all work for me for sleeping. I never seem to have a problem sleeping. I am walking THETA as it is.

http://intelegen.com/nutrients/sleepaidalternatives.htm there is Kava Kava, Valarian Extract, GABA and more.

Theanine is really cool, doesn't make you tired but makes you calm. It supports the formation of GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid), an inhibitory neurotransmitter that blocks the release of the neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin to promote a state of deep relaxation and calm, while increasing sensations of pleasure.

http://intelegen.com/nutrients/L-Theanine.htm

I also use the binaural beat audio for brainwave entrainment, of course those work the more you use them the less you need them so I have not actually used it for a month.
http://brain.web-us.com/binaural.htm I prefer the Lucid Dreamer but often use the Golden Phi lately. The Golden Phi seem to erase one's conditioning, where one sits and try to decide what to think next, rather than it flowing so automatically.

The good thing about the Earth being round is that nobody is alone when awake at night.

***
Aurora,

You must be kidding! Now you want me to believe the Earth is not flat!
Read below:

Still some mysterious
But in Old Testament
Nothing this and that
Everything very clear

There is flat Earth
On which we live
Above a dome, a firmament
Above that, Heaven
Where God lives.

Under our feet
Beneath the ground
Water, water everywhere
Flat Earth stands on many pillars
Standing in water
Standing on what, don't ask
When good people die
They go upward in heaven
When bad people die
They go downward in hell
Is there anything more?
I don't know
Don't ask
Amen! Amen!

PS: How is the ebony eyed poor little glabrous Garmis brownie is doing? I almost wrote a poem on her for your children. The poor thing with intestinal spasms poo-pooing everywhere, on the carpet, at the Christmas time. Merry Christmas to Garmis, to your children and to you.

Hello Tanzan, is it you who is Ravi Kopra? Nice to meet you. I don't want you to believe anything, especially not what you most strongly believe...:)

You are simply amazing with words, even in your attempt to hurt there is so much talent and beauty. I'm grateful for your talent, I hope one day you won't need to use it as a lance and shield anymore.

Thank you for your wishes, Merry Christmas to you and your family, too!

Hey Gotham!

Thanks to you and your family & friends for providing this space for us all. It's been an interesting journey.

Gotham & Harb: I'm also having trouble sleeping. I was up all night last night too. Must be something going on.

BTW Harb - what you describe is known in astrology as the Saturn Return. Saturn has an orbit of roughly 29 years so when a person is in the ages of 28-30, Saturn is back in the spot it was when they were born for the first time. It is indeed a time of change and restlessness. The second Saturn Return happens b/w the ages of 58-60. Interesting, no?

Aurora: I'm in for the Tanzan Reiki Ring ;-) So what do you say, Tanzan?? LOL

Bharat: enjoy your vacation. As I look outside at the snow and -10C weather, I am in deep envy of your Bali adventure. Part of me looks forward to your Bali-Blogs - the other half thinks they qualify as cruel and unusual punishment ;-)

Happy Holidays everyone!

Love, Sheba

Hi Sheba,

Thank you, I will read more about this Saturn Return thing. Though I have also my own expanations of all these things as also, in fact, of why we are unable to sleep at certain periods of our lives.

8. There is nothing like being home to yourself, and happy in that company.
:)
you are so dear!

Thank you to the Chopra family, for allowing this format of sharing, dialoguing, arguing :), and for the amazing love and energy and healing intent brings to the community of Sharing.

Thank you, Gotham. I too enjoy your fun, laughter, sensitive, biting (ouch), Hopeful words - and I have found - sleepless nights - there is no 'cure' for - except sleep.

Love to you,

Sheba, I'm ready when you're ready ;) Keep warm and thanks for the wishes!

Good night everyone, and those who still can't sleep, you can read Deepak's blog for more ideas (not you, Gotham, I'm sure you've heard it before):

Sheba, yours is a lovely site. I could not give my comments though because there was some problem with my IPO address. You and your friedn deespirit are really attractive and intelligent.

Hello K,

Love to you!!

Harb

Hi dear Harb,
Hello! You made me smile when you said you don't want to sleep! I guess, I am a girl like that too. Life is so amazing, and interesting and challenging, and sleep takes up too much time :)
Still, I have learned that rest is refreshing and there are times, when I cannot keep my eyes open.
However,
my eyes are open to see you! :)

Gotham,
I would like to add something to your observation, may be you can give an answer or anyone who frequents this blog.
Are we becoming more self-centered as human beings that we spend more time on internet, which is a , if I can call it so, solitary activity or playing video games, etc. My observation may not be a generalization.
I have noticed another thing, why is it so easy to express oneself in written form or to make it more elaborate why do I find SMS more comfortable than direct voice conversation {apart from the price factor ;)}.
Ispita

Hi Gotham,

I didn't realize you live in LA. Well the tradition in LA is share really good restaurants, so if you haven't gone yet and are a fan of South Indian food... really spicey South Indian food in a totally authenic surrounding, I recommend:
Tirupathi Bhimas
18792, Pioneer Blvd,
Artesia, CA 90701
Ph 562-809-3806

It's just killer!

Also on the west side for a nice totally veg North Indian meal at reasonable prices ( I know blogging doesn't pay all that well) try Chandni on 20th. and Wilshire. Malai Kofta is wonderful !

I don't respond as much as the regulars, but Gotham , you are a good guy, I enjoy your passion and even though most of the time I disagree, that's part of the dance.

Thank you,

Steve

Hi Ispita,
Here I am at intent - and what a neat question you ask!

I have discovered that I enjoy being here and writing.

I have found myself less self-centered in the sharing process. I have become more 'centered' in that I write and as you say - can elaborate my thoughts.

In writing you can craft your thoughts and words and convey more directly, and succintly (hopefully)- than in speaking.

Then again, I love to hear the spoken word. I love the voice and expressions when I am with someone, and sharing and smiling or - perhaps even, disagreeing.

I try to balance my time writing with being in the world of family, community, career, and in Nature. I also carve out a bit of time each day, for prayer and meditation.

I used to have insomnia when I was worried that the IRS was going to garnish my income which was what I used to pay the rent where we lived . . . .and on and on. I would either go online and do as you do or stuff socks in the toes on my stepsons inlines and go skate. The middle of the night is good for thinking it is very quiet and peaceful.

Thank you Gotham and Mallika and Heavy D and your whole clan for birthing this site for the people who have come here to create this community.

Merry Christmas to all of you.

Dear Gotham,

Thank you for your transparent and authentic posting. I know what it is like to have "sleepless" nights, much going on in my life to keep me awake. Meditation, prayer and listening to the music channel Soundscapes prior to going to sleep has helped me.

I wish you, Deepak and Mallika all the best during this holiday season. PEACE! Thanks for creating this blog.

Hi Kate, Thanks. Gotham is such a nice person(I was about to write kid and decided not to,he may get upset, he is not young, I am too old, so every one under forty is a kid for me)I feel bad he is having trouble sleeping.May be he will ask us and all of us can send some gentle energy to him.God bless you Kate. Merry Christmas.

Oh Tryptophan is back, the amino acid, that took some work.

It does what Prozac and all those others do increasing Serotonin levels, but does it naturally allowing the body to exert proper controls, you need to take vitamin C and B6 with it to facilitate the conversion.

It was once taken by millions for sleeping problems, PMS and depression.

They had improperly banned it. In my research I was able to tie the mysterious disease to Genetic Modification, in other words this story would turn the world against any type of genetic modications of food. The changes resulting death were not even detectable.

There was a slight Genetic modication made to the bacteria to increase production, some how the it changed the tyrptophan molecule in a very subtle undetectable way that cause a malfunction it the chemistry of the body which resulted in death from that one batch of Tryptophan.

Don't mess with the desgin of things, the engineers behind the designs of this earth are far more advanced than you.

They already designed everything to fit perfect in the grand scheme of things.

nice, Thomas, man, you got some data on that
harddrive of yours ;), I've been reading through the blogs,

though, it's melatonine that resets the biological clock, circadian rythms, as a result of the Tryptophan, or switch from serotonine, when no light is entred through the eyes,

I think it took like 15/17 years for the Dutch
to legally let in on the market,

Love, and a good nights rest ;) it's the lucid dream that counts..;)

Hi Gotham. I'm glad to hear you now read all the comments. It's quite a job, isn't it? Very time consuming but it's good that you read all your own comments and also nice when you follow up, like when you updated us on your recent dilemma for instance. Otherwise we all would have been left wondering what you did.

I liked your recent letter to George Bush. NICE!! I didn't agree with you that most people believe that Saddam had wmds (as you mentioned in a follow-up comment), but that is neither here nor there since a lot of people realize that Iraq was scheduled to be destroyed (for other reasons) and wmds were just the easy distraction. I don't always agree with everything everyone says here, nor does everyone agree with everything I say here, but we say what we feel needs to be said in a respectful manner (well most of us anyway) and that's the important thing.

I hope you figure out what's keeping you up at night and I'm sure you know that you always have people to 'talk to' here. :)

Dear Gotham,

You, we are human....our lives are meant to be whatever they are...that is the Intent.

May the next time you can not sleep, put "it" in a room, lock "it" up for the night and open "it" when you are ready again.....

Pleasant Dreams and may everyone here have a wonderful holiday.

Hi TS,

Thanks for the link to the poetry blog. How come you did not provide it earlier?

There is one by Neruda something like'what spring has done to Cherry, I will do it to yourself" Why not translate that? I think I am confused, are those lines from one of his letters written to his lover? Do you know?

Wishes for peace, joy and love to all of you and your families during christmas and the celebration season...

I have been sleeping for only six hours for the past twelve years since the birth of my first daughter. I am now used to late nights and the lack of sleep does not bother me. Since Friday I have been having problems falling asleep as my daughters are spending their winter break with their father. I have been separated for about eighteen months and it is difficult for me to be without my children. I love designing and that is what I have been doing up to six or seven in the mornings. I am happy I do not have a schedule to follow right now so I can wake up at noon.
Enjoy reading your posts as always. Happy holidays. Hope the New Year brings peace in the world.
Esther.

tx aurora for some beautiful expressions...heartfelt...

Dear Gotham,

On the subject of not being able to sleep. I was taught many years ago by One of the "Teachers" that we all have a certain direction we should face when trying to sleep. The majority of people should have their head pointed to the North during most of the year.

There are however, two time periods when the earth's energies change directions. This is called the "reversal of the energies", and takes place between early March to early May, and again from early September to early November. During these times it is best to slowly rotate your direction of sleeping to complete a full circle over the two month period. Trial and error will show you which way to rotate.

This is very difficult to accomplish in conventional beds that are rectangular. I solved the problem years ago by buying a round bed. I can now easily sleep in any direction.

When traveling and staying in hotels I have had to make the beds up sideways or even backwards in order to get a good nights sleep.

One proof of this phenomena is to observe young babies when they are sleeping. Once they are old enough to move around they will find the correct alignment with the energies and you will find them sideways or even backwards in their beds sleeping soundly.

Wishing you a good nights sleep,

Stan

Najeeb,

I did post the link here for you few days ago. Perhaps you missed that.

I have translated several poems of Neruda. I will be soon posting them at my blog site. The poem you refer to does not ring a bell. Could you please send me the first line of the poem in Spanish?

I like this blog to, thanks to the Chopra's !

I like this blog too, thanks to the Chopra's !

TS,

Thanx for the reply, i missed the link. I can't remember the beginning of that poem. It was quite some time ago that I read peoms, now there are other pressing needs of life, so not much time left to relish poetry.

Have you been listening to Coast to Coast AM with George Noory? It amazes me how sometimes it keeps me up all night and sometimes it puts me right to sleep.

Hey Gotham,
Testing ....It's about 11:30 p.m. on 12/22 here in the Bay Area. I was worried that I lost a few hours or even worse, misplaced a day! So, since I have been sick and on vacation, I double checked a few references. Boy, did you and the posters have me worried, even my web page, i.e., time notations all different! Who knows, maybe I am missing something as misplacing time is scary endeavor and I really need to finishing reading just one more chapter of one more book and then get to bed :-)

Love, Char

Hi Gotham,
Just checking to see if you are resting or - reading?

It's nearly 3:00 a.m. And it's been a full day of events, career moves, festive scenery, a brisk walk in the park, a spiced pumpkin latte at the coffee shop with my daughter, and now listening to music, and just - reading here at intent!

Oh, I guess it's time for this girl to rest. See you over the breakfast table, reading .... which newspaper did you say you read?

smiles,
nite!

Hi gotham,

I found your post candid and refreshing. It is not that simple to be simple. I understand and appreciate it.

My son is 16. I am not an over anxiuos mom, just very concerned I think. He often teases me that even in my dreams all I would be doing is worry about his studies, or whereabouts or whatever. His favourite term to me is 'chillax',which I am slowly tutoring myself to do. Now, if he were to write me a post such as yours, the first thing that would hit me between the eyes would be, "ohmi god! he is not sleeping well". Soon this would be on his email;

1) wash your feet and hands before getting into bed.(I have no idea how and why this works)

2)Go over the day. Relive the good moments. Ignore the bad. Forgive from your heart those who have hurt you and if possible send them a warm and loving thought.

3)Repeat the Gayatri Mantra, atleast 5 times.(Gotham I am sure you know it but this for those who dont and need help ,tried and tested)
"OM BHU BHUVAHA SVAHA
TATT SA VITTUR VARENIYAM
BHAR GO DEH VASYAH DHIH MAHIH
DHI YOH YOH NAAH PRA CHO DAYAATH"

thanks for being an honest and unassuming person.I like being on this blog too, as a lot of my commenter friends here.I guess this blog is therapeutic for a lot of us in more ways than one.

Hey Gotham: Long time now since I've been in a postion to do anything but read all of your posts along what started out to be two weeks at a unique school of mind development in WA state, and as of Thursday, it hit seven weeks on the road.

I was amazed since I had not traveled anywhere in 10 years!

I very much enjoyed your posts, as usual, and often times on "borrowed" computers that I would use in the "wee hours" of the early mornings; but even then, my attempts at keyboarding would wake up my hosts--so I just read!

Indeed, in spite of the rigorous 18-hour schedule the school kept me at, I fell back into my old habits slowly but steadily, along the way--esp. staying in an ocean-front motel room in Ocean Beach, in San Diego.

Sooo....here I am back in Littleton, Colorado, up in the middle of the night, with my bags half-unpacked and mail all over the place--reading your post about being up half the night!!!! Yeah--I am not alone--and certainly not in virtual time (am just beginning to do some follup reading about "Remote Viewing," taught at this WA school and studied by the gov't.s' military Stargate program--they have mapped out an incredible pattern about earthly time that they call "Local Sidereal Time," that explains some of the most "psychic" times of our 24-hour clock).

Needless to say, time is speeding up from the quantum planes on out--and your desire to be up at night may be because it sooo.....quiet--on all vibrational levels-even the geomagnetic energies change during the "wee hours" on a local basis.

So it is about exactly, well nearly, 24 hours after your post here about being up so late/early (relatively speaking!), and I'm laughing that "Deepak's son" suffers from....well, being human!!!

Your dad's posts have been most intriguing as well, and we always love Mallika's, Kavita's, and many of the brilliant voices from both South Asia, and the "Americanized South Asians" who reside in America, and are so industrious in their lives here in America.

I still think of, and miss, the voice of our beloved Kentucky giant--Norm--so lets send him some "thought waves" in the early a.m. hours and F&%# with his dreams in a way that disrupts his certainty that he actually is a "Bush-lovin'-Crown Royal drinkin'-Republican, and he'll miss us when his business' slow down and not be able to resist challenging you and your father on your most incisive posts.

I still don't get why people are restless about your dad not being able to respond directly to every one of us "responders," as both of your schedules amaze me that you guys take the time to read many of our responses, let alone write back to specific ones! Good on you my friend, for doing so.

I've missed Shekhar's provocative blogs on the "human condition," let alone his many initiatives for poetry blogs--and the wonderful dialogues from the respondents who write their messages back to the Intentblog in "verse" as well.

I'm assuming then that Shekhar is busy with a "day job," like film-making! It is about time that he quit swooning the female audience members of the Intentblog audience with his poetic "Rumi-nations," and further more, quit jamming up America's airport security check-points with his..."other-than-rich-white-Republican-power-broker-appearance,"....and take advantage of America's corporate outsourcing opportunities and at least try and pay his rent with a minimum wage job--maybe Wal-Mart has some expansion plans in India and he could even get in on a ground-floor training position since their program includes health benefits through their host-country's welfare systems!

Gotham--am I rambling? I guess I'm still thinking about some more of the recent documentaries I've watched along the journey; like "'The Corporation,' and the 'Wal-Mart' movie!!!!"

On a more "sound" note, I thought of you regarding your post, "Torn," and couldn't quit thinking of Michael Moore pointing out how the military contractor here in Littleton--Lockheed Martin--is a major employer of many of the parents whose lives were caught up in the trauma of the Columbine shootings--but they don't make the connection to their jobs having anything to do with the life-shattering behavior of their own youth.

I am curious as to what your resolution to that dilemma may have been--if it has resolved itself for you? My thought upon reading that post was that I wanted you to e-mail that particular blog to your "friend" who was being pulled in the direction of the defense industry, via his the "family business."

Now that I have found my way to the round-about way of suggesting something for those insomniac times, I whould echo something like Richard Thomas' suggestions about using recordings that are designed to align your brainwave frequencies to the other-than-beta wavelenths that keep us in that insomniac mental pattern.

When I was in my worst environments, coupled with my own inability to break the cycles of those beta brain waves when I was most depleted from the nervous exhaustion of it all--I started with Wayne Dyer's "Meditations for Manifesting," as that was all I had that worked--with headphones. Even if I had to get up "in two hours," just listening to the "Om" meditations would relax me enough to break the vicious cycle of utter nervous exhaustion.

The availability of high-tech sound lab productions that can drop you into the alpha, delta, and theta brain-wave frequencies, just by overriding the beta frequency through imposing a new harmonic resonance--is literally astounding--and very fun--especially traveling with a portable CD player, like on a flight with anguished toddlers crying out, or in a hotel room backing up to the local highway and it's discordant sounds even at....well, 2:30 a.m.!

Wanted to finish by taking the time to say Merry Christmas to the "Chopras and Shekhar," and your "huge and growing Intentblog family," as well as Aurora, Joanie, Ron, Kate, Tiffany, the Mastertons, Geeta, Mieke, Rita Raju, Sheba, North, Ruth, Richard, Art, and not least of all, Marek, and so many others I do love to see; and....so many voices that are newer to me, that I've grown fond of during these last traveling months; like Navin, Harb, Tanzan, Susan, Spencer, Craig, and on and on and....well--you know!

I can only wonder what it looks like to your "Maa and Daddy," as they must be unable to not "tune into" what you've all created here--no matter how high up they've gone in the dimensions--I think it would be irresistable to them not to "be-the-Observer" of all you've accomplished since the respective dates of both Jan. 20th and July 20th--if I've got the dates correct--even with the difference in their year-of-being-risen up!

I will always treasure the early posts you all put before us in sharing your most intimate personal "joys and sorrows."

Sooo....Gotham--I send Candice thoughts of unconditional love and matrimonial patience for those nocturnal wanderings you share with so many of us as we move forward into these increasingly stressful times in the annals of human history--and especially, I send you "All Green Lights" for a night of deep dreams on Christmas eve--so Santa's racket coming down the chimney doesn't wake you up; if it does, ask him if you can take your laptop and write some blogs while you join him in a sleigh ride around-and-about this most unique schoolhouse known as our beloved Planet Earth--the Heart Plane. Your friend--Dave (Might at well apologize ahead of time for spelling and grammar!)

PS--and "Ditto" to Kavita and Kaveeta! Love--Dave

Hey david,

Good to hear from you.. soo you are as addicted to intent? Not surprised..Got your mail some time back and replied almost promptly..Hope it got to you. Am most disaapointed not to see my name featuring above. No matter what, am human and get hurt you know.. But knowing you, it is a clear oversight...Forgiven .

Keep the faith

Love

Hey Gotham,

If what's keeping you up at night is only morally incriminating as some charming bloggers and their opinions, consider yourself lucky. People have twisted and turned long nights under greater burdens.

Thanks to you too, for giving us this one. Fervent desire to be a part of some interesting dialogues have often separated me from late night television - so there, you just got back at me.

Cheers. And let's keep the fun going.

Kaveeta--Look again sweetheart--I "remembered" and may have beaten you to the punch--at least in "Local Sidereal Time," aka.--virtual time!

Most definitely thinking about you and still have sooo....many e-mails to go through as of yet. Love to you, your 16-year-old, and the rest of your family! Dave

Hope to see your posts regularly??

Hi Kaveetaa, David,

David could be forgiven because of the condition he is in, though he has beaten you to it now!

And can you provide a translation of the Gaytari Mantra?

Hi David, just wanted to say Hello!

Harb.

Harb,

I am glad you asked. I was contemplating adding it.

This is a quote.
Meaning of Gayatri Mantra in English

Just like the Sun annihilates darkness, so does the Gayatri Mantra destroy ignorance. The Gayatri Mantra invokes the power and radiance of the Sun to energize all earthly life, to destroy our sins and to reveal the Supreme Self to us. Krishna in the Bhagvad Geeta says: " Amongst the Mantras, I am the Gayatri"

In a loose translation that cannot possibly do justice to the original it implores: OM, O Lord! You are the all pervading Source of Light, Sustainer, Protector and Bestower of Happiness, Kindle, Enlighten and inspire our Intelligence to possess Eternal Qualities.

Follows the verse in Sanskrit:

Om Bhur bhuvah svahah Tat savitur varenyam Bhargo Devasya dheemahi

Dheeyo yonah prachodayaat

The Gayatri Mantra is the essence of the three Vedas. It is the Vedas simplified. The more one contemplates and meditates upon the Gayatri, the more complexities are revealed to one.

AUM
Supreme Lord

BHUR
Protector of the earth, the material sheath, The Life breath of the Universe. From the feet to the navel center.

BHUVAH
One of the meanings is the sky. The Lord who pervades and eliminates all miseries. From the navel to the throat center.

SVAHAH
One of the meanings is the heavens. He is all Bliss and blesses His devotees with happiness. From above the throat center to the thousand petaled lotus.

TAT That
(That Thou Art)

SAVITUR
The SUN, Creator, Preserver and Self Luminous, the central mantra of the Solar Science.

VARENYAM
Most fit to be worshipped. Most choice worthy.

BHARGO
The burning splendor of the Sun that dispels ignorance, and therefore sorrows and miseries.

DEVASYA
The 'Deva', The God, He who is All Bliss, The Joyful One, The Shining One, The Revealer of All Glory

DHEEMAHI
We meditate upon Him

DHEEYO YO NA
Who our intelligence and Wisdom

PRACHODAYAAT
Inspires

The Gayatri Mantra was traditionally given from the Guru Master to the disciple, while standing mid-stream. Look at the darkness. Visualize the sun rising. Offer water to the sun.

The story goes that once the Devas, the Shining Ones wanted to learn the secrets of the Universe. Since learning about the Scientific aspect 'atoms' etc. did not quite work out, they went to the Lord. The Lord gave them the Rig Veda, The Yajur Veda and the Sama Veda to study. After a couple of eons of study, the Devas lost their patience and wanted to quit. The Lord urged them not to give up and decided to teach the essence of the 3 Vedas in 3 fragments:

Essence of Rig Veda Tat Savitur Varenyam

Essence of Yajur Veda Bhargo Devasya Dheemahi

Essence of Sama Veda Dheeyo Yonah Prachodayaat

The more the Devas practiced and contemplated upon the Gayatri, the more complexities were revealed to them. So they lost patience again and went to the Lord to make it simpler still. So the Lord gave them the essence of the 3 segments, in the 3 words:

Bhur, Bhuvaha, Svaha

The Devas spent a a few cycles of Creation, probably a quadrillion human years pondering upon the 'maha vyahritis' ie 'Utterances of the Lord' but became impatient again and urged the Lord to make it simpler yet. So He Said "All right I'll make it simpler"

And He taught them AUM

The great western thinker, Arthur Koestler, had once said that the Gayatri Mantra has the power of a thousand atomic bombs! and the famous scientists

J.B.S. Haldana wrote: "The Gayatri Mantra should be carved on the doors of every laboratory of the world".

Hi David,

Just wanted to let you know that as I read your post this morning there was a genuine smile on my face. It was really nice to read something from you again.

Merry Christmas to you, and to all the contributors here :)

And for all you sleepless folk out there/in here, here's something to ponder in the wee hours...

Have you ever noticed when you wear something on your head for a long time, like a hat or a babushka, it feels like it's not there anymore? And then when you take it off it feels like it's still there? What the hell is that?

Welcome Back David, Have a wonderful holiday! Joanie
Please send my love to Patzy as well.

Thank you David for your kind wishes and i hope you are feeling better. We all carry you in our heart and i would like to wish you wonderful, quiet Christmas days since you have been travelling so much, and enjoyable days thereafter. If you want to read a real nice New Year´s wish, and if you have the time, then go to North´s Spirits Site:
http://groups.msn.com/SpiritsoftheFourWinds

Very best wishes to you, Mieke

And of course these wishes are to all of you as well. I have so much enjoyed these past months here at Intent Blog. I want to thank all of you for the wonderful feeling of togetherness that this way of communicating has brought forward to me and i believe to everyone here. Hope 2006 will indeed bring forward all the fruits of the seeds we all together have sowed.
Love, abundance, peace and happiness, Mieke

David,

As always, it a given that we can expect nothing but kindness and wisdom from you. It's good to hear from you again and I trust that your health improves. You have been missed.

Happy Holidays!

Kaveetaa,

Thank you so much. Sorry you had to put up so much labour. I did not know it will turn out to be so lengthy a job.

Anyway, I may also add that one day when people will understand my book fully, they will find it no less than any such Mantra. Now don't get surprised that I am no Rishi. Modern Rishis will be like us. Or, may be, thousands of years from now we may also look to people of those times like old Rishis.

I have named the AUM in my book as Mosc - Matter of spiritual category. It is also One. It is also the same as Chinese Chi. It is also to what we call God, Soul, Suchness, Sunyata, Sat Chit Ananda and so on and so forth.

Then it splits into two - Movc and Mopc (Matter of virtual category and Matter of physical category).

Movc or Matter of virtual category is univeral Mind as against Universal Soul called above Mosc.

Mopc or Matter of physical category is Universal Body.

The Game of Life begins from what Gaytri Mantra calls Aum and what I call Mosc

Then it splits into two - Movc and Mopc or Mind and Body. After full evolutionary course which completes in one Universal cycle it again merges into One.

Of course, it is from our or Many point of view. From the point of view of One or Mosc or Aum, there is no Game all is Aum or Mosc.

Sometimes Sun is also worshipped as Aum or One because for us earthlings Sun indeed represents that very One or Aum. Because what all we see has emerged from the Sun after all! Moreover, the game of our earth starts from the sun in the same way as th universal Game of Life starts from Aum or Mosc.

What happens at the level of an atom, happens at the level of you, me, Earth, Sun and finaly the Universe itself. At the very base there is only one simple formula or mechanism. I have just found that and explained to some extent in my book. Some it will turn all our so-called sciences or studies on their head. Talk to me about my words after about ten years!!

Now at least talk of my confidence !!

Harb.

Thanks Sundar, this looks like a god place to tell you how very much I enjoy reading your posts.

Dave, welcome back! You made me laugh out loud with your story of how you left your bags on the floor and ran to read the Intent blog :D:D... I was away for a few hours and there are already so many new blogs and comments that I'll probably be sitting here all Christmas, lol.

Kaveeta, thanks for posting the Gayatri. One thousand atomic bombs indeed!

Thanks for the wishes, Mieke and David, Merry Christmas to everyone!

Nisha,

Nailed it.

You are all supposed to be listening to Coast to Coast.

Happy Holidays, everyone!

Welcome back, Dave - so nice to see you around again :-)

Hi Dave! Nice to see you back.

Gotham, I guess I think we do need a secret self. Perhaps that is part of our strength?

Although, shadows... those we need to become friends with. And then, whether we share or not isn't the point anymore.

When I was thinking before about not having a secret self I was imagining being defenseless. But you can be defenseless and still have a secret self... ? right?
I think so...

Love, Kristin

For Christmas, I received one of those "shake-it" flashlights (doesn't use batteries...you just shake it and it runs off induction from a magnet). I left it on all night to see how long it would illuminate the room between shakes.

It lasted all night. Consequently, I didn't get much sleep either. Man.

While I was waiting for the device to exhaust itself, I thought, 'they should affix these babies onto hats so that the way will be illuminated for those who nod YES all the time. Like YES MEN.'

Yep, I see that rock.

Yep, I notice that upcoming curve in the path.

Yep, there's a friend.

Yep, there's somebody shaking his head NO tripping over a stump. Too bad for the NO MAN.

You say you want me to help the NO MAN find a better way?

Yep, I can do that.

Yep.
