China
Total Population: 1,306,313,812
Total Skateboarders: about 12
Obviously, with numbers like that, any reasonable government official would partner with a clothing company to build the widest vertical skateboarding ramp in the world! So, the centerpiece of downtown New Jiangwan City, on the outskirts of Shanghai, should come as no surprise.
Maybe it will work - we all saw Crouching Tiger - these people can fly.
And, you have to admit, cultural revolution #2 will, at the very least, be funnier
than its predecessor. [link]

This is awesome. 5 years is the over on the Yao Ming of skateboarding to emerge from the Republic.
I would travel to china for this reason alone to see what happens with this. not only will china dominate the x games within 2 years, they will create new sports the west will hace to chase.
As a pro skateboarder myself (and skating for 27 years) I am happy to see more skatepark taking place.
More and more american skateboard companys put their production in China now.
I am part owner of the skateboard brand Reverse Freestyle http://www.reverse-freestyle.com
However, we focus on the dicipline Flatland Freestyle Skateboarding which mean no ramps or any obstacles. More like figure skating in a way, with flips, wheelis and footworks on a falt surface and to our own chose of music at contests and demos.
Most skatepark unfortunately do not provide enough flat area for our dishipline, as this is the age of extremism. BUT, things are about to change, skateboarders are once again being interested in style and smotthness and not only crazy extreme stunttricks.
The beaty of skateboarding is that it is only a wooden plank with 4 wheels, and the possibilities are limitless: vertskating, pool skating, street skating, slalom, freestyle, longboarding, downhill, highjump, dowhill sliding, and within each dishipline there is a wide range of different styles and approaches and the possibilities are limitless not only with skating as a whoile, bit within each dishipline...

My son is a skateboarder, and snowboarder; it's
My son is a skateboarder, and snowboarder; it's his fave sports, and he is good! He needs new boards, the brand nabe Zero - being his ultimate fave; but they are so bloody expensive; it's unreasonable for the less-than financially abled, to afford for thier children. Ok, as a Mom, I am complaining; b/c he loves it; he's good; it's too expensive!! He needs new ruts regularly, blah blah! This is another sport for kids of richer families!
But, there is nothing like watching your child flying in the open air, on a board; something so very liberating about flight...
