Supermodel Experiences Peace During Tsunami
Petra Nemcova, a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Model, recently published a book, Love Always, Petra, recounting how she was heroically rescued during the Thailand tsunami that took place on December 26, 2004.

This is the most inspirational story I have ever heard and I wanted to share it with the IntentBlog community because her reaction to nearly losing her life during the tsunami inspired me to change my generally philosophy, attitude, and outlook on life.

On December 25, Petra and her boyfriend, Simon Atlee, celebrated Christmas together at a resort in Phuket, Thailand. They talked about their future together and possibly having kids someday. The next morning, she was packing in her hotel room when the first wave hit.

The wave came through the balcony of her hotel room and she grasped onto the roof. That was the last time she saw her boyfriend, Simon. Trash and debris hit her, breaking her pelvis in four places. Then the current released her from the roof and she grabbed onto a tree. She was not able to hold onto the first tree because of the current’s ferocious power. The power and force of the fierce waves tore off all of her clothes. However, she did grab a second tree. She was left clinging for dear life onto that palm tree for eight hours, naked, with a shattered pelvis and no feeling in her legs. Eventually, she was rescued by the Thai natives and now has healed nearly all of her injuries.

Last year when she was on Larry King, he asked her what was going through her mind while she was clinging to the palm tree. There was pure grace and gratitude in her voice when answered, “ . . . it was actually, in some way, it was really peaceful. I wasn’t afraid. I was very – the whole time through, I was very calm and focused. And I was making lots of prayers and sending energy to people and thinking of Simon and all the people there . . . I never lose faith, even when there was a moment when I stopped fighting, stopped kicking. I was very peaceful . . . I accepted it, and it was actually beautiful. And I didn’t have a fear.”

I heard her interview with Larry King at the perfect time in my life. You can read the entire transcript of the interview at Larry King’s Website under the Transcript Archive for May 13, 2005. It was about this time a year ago right during my final exams for law school. I was also completing my debut novel, The Bottom Line. After I heard her speak, my initial reaction was complete awe and amazement and I knew I had to incorporate her story into my book. (You can read the first two chapters of The Bottom Line or sign up to receive my free online newsletter, Satori Group Awakenings, at my website at www.mattwelsh.ws)

Then, I began to ponder her serene and graceful reaction. She found peace and beauty in the midst of such a terrible tragedy. This observation led me to question and develop a much greater understanding for the notion that ones thoughts create ones reality. I still do not fully understand exactly what it means that your thoughts create your reality. Does it mean that our objective reality is actually entirely subjective because it is determined by our thoughts? Does it mean that our thoughts have the power to influence our reality by attracting circumstances, events, and people into our life that are aligned with the vibration of our current thoughts?

It appears that Petra was able to use her thoughts to create her reality. For example, by focusing her thoughts on sending love, prayers, and energy to Simon and other people her reality became filled with calmness, tranquility, and beauty in the midst of a tsunami. Additionally, was she able to use her thoughts to help attract a Thai native to heroically rescue her and then use her thoughts to help her heal nearly all of her injuries?

Finally, if your thoughts do create your reality, what is the most powerful thought to think in order to create the most fulfilling, meaningful, and joyful reality for yourself? It is my belief that the most powerful thought I can think is a “thought of God” – a thought filled with joy, forgiveness, peace, creation or love. I believe that thinking a “thought of God” is a conscious act that can be facilitated when one chooses to surrender their will and thoughts into to the Hands of God. For example, one of my favorite and most powerful prayers is:

God, I surrender my will and thoughts over to you. I place my future in Your Hands. Thank you for already solving all of my problems for me. Everything I need is on its way. God, how may I serve You today?

Is this what Petra did – surrender her will and thoughts over to God- when she said, “I accepted it, and it was actually beautiful. And I didn’t have a fear.”?

A bit of synchrodestiny at work.
The home page story on Yahoo (where I went after I posted above) was on Preity Zinta, one of India's most famous actresses, life reflections after she survived the tsunami...

Just thought I would share.

Hello Matt, thank you so much for a beautiful story and for your deep and sincere questions. Because you have mastered the art of surrender, your answers will expand more and more... I look forward to exploring your website :)

Thanks for sharing the link, Mallika. It's all connected...

Dear Matt,
In moments of grave danger, one can experience a meditative state. As in those moments, there is no past, there is no future......your being is in total concentration in the present. Your life is at stake and you have no time to think. All thinking ceases. That's when pure intelligence is at work.
Whether it was Petra or Preity, both experienced the same thing. They got a glimpse of what total concentration can do to their state of being, by accident. Imagine how blissful our lives can be if we can be in this state of heightened awareness all our life.

Cheers!
Navin

Dear Matt, wonderful read-very touching story on Petra-her date with Grace will never be forgotten.

When is your book available for purchase Matt?

All the best to you, and in finishing your studies!

North

Dear Matt,

Hi nice to meet you.

Your sharing reminds me of an experience I had many years ago in Denver, Colorado. I had hitched a ride from downtown Denver out to my parent’s house in Westminster on my friend’s motorcycle. As we were getting onto the interstate I-25 I had a premonition that someone was going to run into us from behind. I wasn’t afraid because I somehow knew we would be all right.

We missed our turn to the Boulder Turnpike, and were going north toward 84th Ave. in heavy traffic. We were in the right hand lane doing about 60 mph. Suddenly everything went into slow motion, and I felt the heat of a car’s engine coming up behind us. The car hit us at a high rate of speed and I found myself flying off the motor bike into the left hand lane of traffic. There seemed to be a ball of energy around me protecting me as I slid down the road. I looked over my shoulder and saw a green Chevy coming right at me. Just before it hit me I inexplicably made a sharp right turn and moved 8 ft back into the right hand lane. I then when straight again and the Chevy sped past me on my left.

I looked over my shoulder again and the car that had hit us was coming right at me with the motorbike being ground up underneath it, all in slow motion. Then again I made another impossible right turn and moved 8ft right off to the side of the road and out into a field. There I found my friend who had been thrown off in the opposite direction from me and had crawled out into the same field. We lay down together and looked up into the night sky to see a perfect straight line above us where there were solid clouds to the South of us, and a clear bright sky to the North.
After awhile the police came and the ambulance and we were taken to a hospital but I only had a few cuts and scratches on my hands and feet where they had come out of the ball of energy that had surrounded me. I have no doubt Matt, that it was God who protected me in this event. Was it my thoughts and belief in God that created the reality? Maybe it was. On the other hand it may have just been God protecting me because he had other things for me to do, than being squashed on I-25.
In any event I am very thankful. I also can relate to your prayer which is beautiful and very correct.

Kind Regards

Stan

Matt,

Hello! Thank you for sharing with us today!

Doesn't it seem like we have to allow for a certain

amount of intervension, from a Divine,

Intelligent,Benevolent Force?

Some power that is able to momentarily suspend

the Laws of Nature, and make us question

our very existence on this Earth.

Why is it so hard for people to momentarily suspend

their dis-belief and believe another man's word?

"Time is Nature's way of making sure

everything doesn't happen at once."

Eternity is not a man-made concept,

Love reigns forever and ever,! Amen!

.

Stan,

What a gripping tale! I believe you wholeheartedly!

What a joy it is when one no longer has to rely

on faith...because one now knows,

and no more has to believe!

Nice to meet you Stan and Matt! Peace, Keith

Stan,

Wow, What an amazing story. I love hearing stories like that. Thanks for sharing it with us.

North,

My book, The Bottom Line, is available now at my website at www.mattwelsh.ws or on Amazon.

Thanks everyone for your comments

Matt,
beautifully written. Couldnt have returned to intent in a better way after the crazy past weeks.
You are wise beyond your years.
Keep writing!

Hey Matt, great questions, great story,

'..when one chooses to surrender their will and thoughts into to the Hands of God..'

Giving up sovereignty..that is the dillemma..? ;)since the macro-cosmos, is full of pain and suffering.., like Al Pacino's monoloque from the Devil's Advocate..'..surrender to that sadistic..- never!..'

but,
than.., what?..again..
Matt, what is the difference, between, God, Spirit, will, yours.., his? and your Dharma...? ;)

Free will.., the final frontier..is she...

Love, Passion!,
Matt, how are the chicks, on your side of the Atlantic, BTW..? and, have you encountered,
something like, a 'spiritual girl'..? ;)
in my micro-cosmos, impossible? or a mission..;)

Matt,

Thank you for your post! How poignant and how true that the "tsunamis" of our lives whether it is in physical or in metaphorical terms - leads us to surrender! There in lies ...GRACE! Your entry is an encouragement to me!

Thanks, Mallika for Preita Zinta's entry. You can read Preita Zinta's entry of her experience at http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/4268387.stm

Susan

Hi Matt and Stan,

Nice stories of grace at the critical moment.

I believe grace is also with us throughout daily life, assisting us in all kinds of ways in the background. I believe Grace is always with us, we just notice it more at certain times.

But things are not all rosey in Graceland. Did you read Preity Zinta's story - her friends didn't make it. Petra's boyfriend Simon didn't make it.

Apparently Grace wasn't planning on intervening for over 200,000 people that fateful day.

We hear the survivor's stories because the others aren't here to tell what they experienced in their final moments.

Which brings me to Petra's response to the wave. There's a much more mundane word for what she experienced. It's called shock. People respond differently to shock, and the mind can override all sorts of physical evidence to try to maintain control at times of extreme shock.

The slow-motion perception (which is actually the brain speeding up into hyperdrive due to extreme adrenalin), the feelings of separation from physical pain or emotional stress, transcendent calm, all these are common responses to extreme, sudden shock.

This is not to belittle their experience at all, nor am I implying that God didn't intervene, because, as I have stated, I think God is always with us.

Other people respond differently in times of shock. I remember one day I came upon a woman walking up to a convenience store holding her arm and squeezing it below the elbow. She had put her arm through a window, (I never found out why, but I think nit had something to do with escaping from an abusive boyfriend) and there were big shards of glass actually lodged right in her arm.

I told her to not move her arm and stay calm, everything will be OK. I then called the emergency team and waited with her for the few minutes in between. She was in shock. Her eyes were dilated. I asked her if she was hurting. She said no she couldn't feel any pain. Then she looked at her arm, and in a moment of recognition of what had happened to her arm, she started to freak out moved her arm, and a stream of blood squirted out from her vein. I told her just hold the arm as before, and everything will be fine because the doctors are coming. She received my suggestion and immediately calmed down. She had a friend with her, who was starting also to freak out, so I told her friend - look, shut up unless you want your friend to lose it. So she shut up.

It was apparent to me that she could control her state with her mind, so that's why I was suggesting that everything was safe and OK.

Then the emergency team arrived. They thanked me for keeping the victim calm and reminding her to hold off her injury to prevent blood loss. I never saw the girl again, nor did anyone contact me for an accident report.

Here's my take on "you create your own reality".

I think more accurate would be to say "you modify your perceptions according to your internal beliefs and preferences".

I don't think Petra created the tsunami. But she created her response to it.

Our senses are set up to modify what we perceive almost from the start. I doubt we get "unfiltered" perceptions of the physical world, because biologically we are endowed with filters. We perceive some parts of the light and sound spectrum, but not others, for example.

Beyond pure biological filters we impose judgements of whether a perception is liked or disliked, whther we want to move towards or away from it.

And then we formulate our responses to our perceptions.

So there's a lot of layers that a wave of perception travels through in us, and we perceive, judge, and respond at what seem to be instantaneous speed (at least from the human point of view).

One man's garbage is another man's gold, so to speak. Some face death as a moment of transcendence and grace, some panic and go out kicking and screaming till the end.

Same with other shocking situations. Different soldiers respond to combat environments differently. What if someone sticks a gun to your head and says "give me your wallet?" For some people it's a no brainer - the wallet is easily replaceable, the life is not. For others it is a moment of total panic because they are very attached to all the identity cards, credit cards, money and so on they have in their wallets. They might struggle with the robber, resulting in death or injury for one or both people.

You don't create the physical world. But you are in a constant process of shaping your perceptions and responses to it.

Since what you perceive is your own perception, it indeed may look as if you are modifying your reality.

You can modify your personal reality in terms of altering your beliefs, and training yourself to respond differently to certain things. Your beliefs and attitudes will filter waht you perceive, just like an infrared filter on glasses will cause you to see everyone in terms of their body heat signature.

This is how self-fulfilling prophecies occur. If you believe people with red hair are thieves, then if you ever see or hear on the news of a red-haired thief, you will say "ah-ha, that proves it! Red-haired people are thieves!" It is not necessarily the reality, but it seems real to you because you are filtering your experience to align with your beliefs.

So you modify your personal reality.

But that brick wall in front of you is real, you didn't put it there, and you can't walk through it. That is not the meaning of the statement "you create your own reality".

And neither Petra, Preity, nor you nor I created the tsunami. We did filter our perception of it and create our responses to it, however.

And I believe that for people who have a strong, rock-bottom faith in the Existence, or in Life itself, or in a God of their choice, the response to an extreme shock is going to be different from someone who is insecure deep down inside.

I think tsunami changed a lot of lives. i have relatives in phuket who went through a similar incident, with their homes and stores being destroyed. thankfully, they survived. the tourism didnt decline to the extent they were afraid of, and it kept their spirits up. my parents lived there for a couple of years too in the late 90s, and we have a lot of memories attached to that place, so it was very sad to hear about all this again.

Hi Matt, I enjoyed your blog entry. I think this woman trusted the divine and was almost accepting of her destiny.....

Joanie

It appears that some of us are yearning to find answers to reality, and the mystery of the universe. But why do we need to be so peroccupied in decyphering the mystery of life and the universe?

Don't you think that if there were a supernatural Force responsible for the universe, all things and our thoughts and then wanting us to understand, it would have done so by now?

Why do we encumber ourselves with tasks?

If we are going to naively attribute our survival to God in times of peril and great danger, then, why don't we ask the other burning questions in times of such tragedies?

For instance, why did God save some and killed others? If you are going to assert that God is directly responsible for your survival, then God is directly responsible for the death of the others, right?

Some of the fortunate few who survived the WTC tragey say that God saved them. Oh really? Then, why did God prefer you over the others when he/she/it was deciding who will survive and who will live?

We are a species that in mired in our convenient rituals and self-built comfort zones, really!

Beautiful post Mr. Matt. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with the contributers and readers of this blog.

Petra said "I accepted it .." shows the exact state of her mind at that paricular moment, and once she was able to internalize that (with a sudden flash of knowledge) she was calm and quiet "..and it was actually beautiful." she said. Such a state of mind is unique and that is why the most beautiful. It manifests the absolute objective world view, about you, your existence and about the reality around you at that moment. It can be short lived though and scientists call it "survival instinct.
"Read "Descartes Error" by Professor Antonio R. Damasio. To transcend that 'momentory existence'state of mind and attain that blissful, unshakably permanent state of the mind of "absolute objectivity", hard work needs to
be done. One has to work on the physical and psychlogical self constantly. There are several ways to achieve that. The great souls such as Zoroaster,Confucius, Gautam Buddha, Jesus Christ, Mohammed, Ramakrishna and many others like them had attained that bliss ful state of mind.

Constant prayer is one of them. Prayer has the power, not to influence external reality perceptibly. "Prayers offered by strangers had no effect on the recovery of people who were undergoing heart surgery, a large and long-awaited study has found." reported by BENEDICT CAREY, in The New York Times Published: March 31, 2006, but it certainly has the power to transform an individual himself to that permanent state of absolute objective world view.

Even though the unique state of mind Petra
was blessed that particular moment can be said to be momentory it had the power to transform her life in a unique and beautiful way. She and such blessed souls through out the world are sharing their unique experiences and influencing their environments in their own way.

One great soul who had faith in the power of self transformation of the prayer but at the same time also ackowledged that it is
such a difficult task, is non other than Helen Steiner Rice. She speaks thru her beautiful
poem that is reproduced here

"Let me not live a life that's free from
"The things" that draw me closer to thee

For how can I ever hope to heal the
Wounds of others I do not feel?

If my eyes are dry and I never weep
How do I know when the hurt is deep?

If my heart is cold and it never bleeds
How can I tell what my brother needs?

For when ears are deaf to the beggar's plea
And we close our eyes and refuse to see

And we steel our hearts and harden our minds
And we count it a weakness whenever we are kind

We are no longer following the father's way
Or seeking His guidance from day-to-day

For without "Crosses to Canny" and "Burdens to Bear"
We dance through the life that is frosty and fair

And chasing the rainbow we have no desire
For "Roads that are Rough" and "Realms that are Higher"

So spare me no heart ache or sorrow, dear Lord
For the heart that is hurt reaps the richest reward

And the God enters the heart that is broken with sorrow
As he opens the door to a brighter tomorrow

For only through tears can we recognize
The suffering that lies in another's eyes"

AJ,

Finally! Your past convenient posting style and

ritualistic bombardment can be aborted. Hope it's not just temporary,

this is probably not in your "comfort zone"!

Obviously you can read, so I find myself required

to advise you of a book...surprised?

"The Two Hands Of God" The Myth Of Polarity

Alan Watts 1963

Much information and lot's of kewl pictures from

the East and West. But you won't read it...will you?

Deepak speaks of Nature's seemingly "free-will"

to be "red in tooth and claw"! He would tell you that

you can't make someone love you, unless they have a choice.

It sometimes seems like Deism in the making.

But free-will had to be offered in the very

non-beginnings of our material Universe, just so

we as Nature's creatures could have such a choice

now, further on down the imaginary line.

Laws seem to have been laid down and if they were

continually broken with Divine Intervension, well,

what if Once Upon A Time they were and still are?

Does that really negate completely our "free-will" choices?

Would a Creator not be allowed to edit their own works?

Could it be that this Creator has allowed Nature

and all it's creatures to evolve via natural disasters?

Could it be that only "individual souls" really

matter, and we have no hope of saving our entire

species, or our temporarily existing planet?

Because, hey! What didn't exist in the past, and

what won't exist in the future, can't possibly exist

RIGHT NOW! So which do we wish, or may we choose?

Myself, I have to believe the soul's the "thang",

Cosmic Soul, World Soul, your soul, mine, and the

souls of all individual entities, all rolled up into

a ball the scarab would be proud of!

You are free to choose sides, AJ, ala carte or

al a mode, the dessert's on Me2! Keith

Keith,

You are not the only one to have drunk the potion, youngman!

While you are esposing "freewill", you must also do so with an open mind!

Cheers!

This is my response to Yogi One, AJ, and others.

Being saved or not saved in a disaster doesn't have to be interpreted as being good or bad. Good for the ones saved and bad for the ones taken. I believe the soul can never be destroyed and our soul's existence continues in other dimensions after physical death. Therefore the ones saved in the tsunami, or 9/11, could be the unlucky ones, since they have to remain here on Planet (screwed-up) Earth, while the others may have graduated to a higher and better life.
Studying the spiritual side of our existence and believing in a benevolent and just higher power, and then recognizing his involvement in our lives, does not constitute being mired in convenient rituals or comfort zones.
It is much more apparent that we humans are preoccupied with everything but this search for God and our true nature.

Kind Regards,

Stan

Hi Stan,

I appreciate the sincerity of your post. But it is replete with "maybes" and "what-ifs!" And that does not prove anything, dear friend!

What will be will be, ultimately! The power that is responsible for our being on this "screwed-up" planet, all the while, remains curiously reticent, as proxies (a.k.a. us) do all the talking! Obviously, that Power does not appear to be too concerned with whether we understand Nature's mysteries or not!

We are, therefore, the quintessential examples of naivette, immaturity and absurdity.

Digambar,

Thats a very cool poem!
AJ,

Those are some tough and important questions you ask. I don't think I or anyone will ever be able to fully understand the mystery of pain and suffering. I do think that Stan raises a good point that the eternal existence of the soul and ones eternal spiritual journey that goes on after ones physical death might eventually provide one with some answers.

Marek and Keith,

Good points on free will. I often wonder just how powerful or to what extent God or Spirit can influence ones life. However, I would say that God/Spirit will never violate free will and that the individual ultimately chooses to exercise his or her free will when they consciously choose to allow God or Spirit to guide them throughout life. BTW Marek, there are plenty of beautiful, spiritual women on this side of the Atlantic =). But, I still haven't come across my "soul mate" yet. At least, I don't think I have.

Aurora,
I don't know if I have mastered the art of surrender, but I am working on it. I think Navin asked a great question along those lines . . .

"Imagine how blissful our lives can be if we can be in this state of heightened awareness all our life."

I think Joanie and Susan give some good ideas about surrendering when they mention Grace and trusting the Divine

Yogi - interesting take on the role our perceptions play in creating our reality

Mallika and Kavita,
Thanks for the encouragement and helping IntentBlog to continue to grow and evolve

Dear Matt,

The story of Petra reminds me of Immaculée who survived a man-made disaster against extra ordinary odds. The disaster is Rwanda genocide in which nearly a million died. The thoughts you have expressed about creating one's own reality and surrendering the will to God reminds me of Dr. Wayne Dyer who was inspired by the story of Immaculée and incorporated it in his book "Inspiration: Your Ultimate Calling" just like you have by the story of Petra with your book "The Bottom Line".

"Left to tell" is a book written by Immaculée about her life.

Love bears all things, believes in all things, hopes all things and endures all things. Love never ends.
-Immaculée Ilibagiza.

About Left to Tell from the book website:

Immaculée shares her miraculous story of how she survived during the Rwanda genocide in 1994 when she and seven other women huddled silently together in the cramped bathroom of a local pastor’s house for 91 days! In this captivating and inspiring book, Immaculée shows us how to embrace the power of prayer, forge a profound and lasting relationship with God, and discover the importance of forgiveness and the meaning of truly unconditional love and understanding—through our darkest hours.

Wayne Dyer's thoughts about "Left To Tell":

You’ve read that pure faith, devoid of all doubt, can move mountains and even project a camel through the eye of a needle. But even with your own unshakable faith, the mountain has probably remained stationary where it’s always been, and the eye of the needle is too tiny to welcome even one camel’s eyelash—let alone the entire creature traversing a minuscule opening. Well, I’m happy to report that when you’ve completed your first reading of Left to Tell, you’ll have a new perspective on what the field of all possibilities looks like. As you bear witness to Immaculée Ilibagiza’s transcendent experience in the midst of a holocaust too horrible to even contemplate, you’ll also understand how the limitless power of pure, undeterred faith can indeed work to create miracles.

It has been said that the laws of the material world do not apply in the presence of the God-realized. You’ll come to understand these words directly by the time you finish reading this book. Time after time, Immaculée’s pure, God-realized “Inner Beingness” allowed her to erect invisible barriers so that killers with machetes who were only inches away were blinded to her physical presence. As her faith deepened, the miracles became even more astonishing. Her visualizations became so real—and all doubt was banished from her mind—that she was indeed at one with God. She knew that God was with her as she saw a cross of light bar her and her companions from certain death. Angels of love and compassion seemed to emerge out of nowhere as Immaculée intensified her communion with our Creator. She was able to stare down a determined killer and watch in certainty as he dropped his weapon and became immobilized as his contempt was converted to kindness.

And finally, as she abandoned all of her feelings of hatred and revenge toward the killers—and despite what once seemed an impossibility—she merged into Divine union with God by offering her tormentors not only compassion, but total forgiveness and unconditional love as well. Yes, she became one with Spirit, where she remains today.

To me, Immaculée was not only left to tell this mind-blowing story, but more than that, she’s a living example of what we can all accomplish when we go within and choose to truly live in perfect harmony with our originating Spirit.

Hey Matt,
there is a gap in the whole free will and cosmic consiousness doctrine, (that, or I need to download more data..;)
Ego; determinism and conditioning,
Spirit; ever fresh and new,
yin/yang, contrast, from one to the other,

but, how in the astral domein(?), can like with
(Jyotish) Astrology, the lifespan of (free?)choices.. before they are 'made'..

ah well, Divine Dichotomy? like I understand that one..

or women..
that is..

what's your favorite pie, matt? I got blond, well manored, Polish sernik, Western Europeans cannot even dream of! princesses of sweetness', by the dozens, but those Arabian..mmhnn.. is the pie you don't know, a more
delicasy? or...

"Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all of the barriers within yourself that you have built against it. It is not necessary to seek for what is true, but it is necessary to seek for what is false. Every illusion is one of fear, whatever form it takes. And the attempt to escape from one illusion into another must fail. If you seek love outside yourself you can be certain that you perceive hatred within, and are afraid of it. Yet peace will never come from the illusion of love, but only from its reality.
A Course In Miracles, p. 338

Love, Passion!

Matt,

I read the following recently and I learned a little bit about "Grace" and "Surrender" and trusting the Divine, allowing God to carry me through ....

"The eagle that soars in the upper air does not worry about how to cross rivers or climb mountains! The eagle will sit on a crag and watch the sky as it is filling with blackness, and the forked lightning are playing up and down, and he sits perfectly still, turning one eye and then the other toward the storm. But he never moves until he feels the burst of the wind and knows the storm has struck him, then with a scream, he swings his breast into the tempest, and uses the storm to go up into the sky-borne on the torrential winds."

Susan

UG,

Yes, I am familiar with Immaculee. I have not read her book, but coincidentally enough, I am going to hear her speak today with Wayne Dyer in Chicago! . .. I'm really looking forward to hearing her story live in person.

Marek,
Very insightful quote from ACIM . . . I've been reading ACIM for the last couple years. It's not really an easy read, but I have found some parts very enlightening

Matt: I am amazed that you were finishing the writing of a book, during your law school finals, and building and running your own website too!

I read your interview at "Kavita's place," and linked into to those two chapters of your book--quite a bit of accomplishment for one so young.

I very much like the way you've used the experience of others, the tsunami survivors in particular, to illustrate and capture the sublime understanding and experiences that come from the kind of surrender Petra recounted.

Like Stan, and even in similar locations around the Colorado area, or California as well, I experienced a half-a-dozen of these "altered times" in cars or on motorcycles; when I thought for sure that "my ticket was punched"--as well as other times of extreme stress or injury--but it couldn't have been a chemical thing from injury, as "something" stepped in to correct the trajectories of either the cars or motorcycles, before what should have been fatal, or seriously-injured type of accidents, "should have" occured.

The movie industry has become very proficient at creating scenes where time seems to slow down and warp into other dimensions, or otherworldly perceptual viewpoints--or to the contrary, speed up to also warp the "normal perception of the typical linear flow."

I am all too familiar with the linear scientific explanations about how near-death-experiences are all chemical, as the brain is dying, blah blah blah--but once you've had such experiences, you know for a certaintly about these "other realities"--and that oftentimes, the brain and body's chemistry is being triggered by experiences that are happening from the perception of the soul, which is out-of-the-body!

I am certainly not here to convince anybody of anything; for me, it took years of studying in-depth records and teachings about reincarnation, NDE's, OBE's, etc. etc., to come, from a "scientific and left-brain linear explanation," and raise the circular reasoning from linear, so that it becomes spiral--and includes depth/height and width/breadth, and then spherical in nature, and from there, (some call the fourth dimesnion for understanding movement and relatively of 'the spheres'), and time bends and raises in it's vibrational octaves as well.

The fact that these seemingly "non-existent" worlds are increasingly being verified by the quantum sciences is only adding credibilty to same, and increasingly subtle means of verifying these "realities," as well (and it is the work of brilliant scientists and researchers that is doing so!).

At first glance, I thought of two movies: "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" (with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie); and "The House of Flying Daggers"--as excellent examples of illustrating these altered experiences of time, and/or different perspectives of what is happening, "in time."

I thought of our poster "Susan" then, who was part of the team that produced that incredible piece of filmmaking, "The House of Flying Daggers," and voila, here is poster name Susan--although I don't know if it's the same one.

Consider that "the Science Fiction of today is the Science of tomorrow," and there is a reason why NASA scientists consult with Hollywood visionaries in developing some of their latest technologies.

Virtually all the questions any could ask do have a true and logical answer--if taken in the greater context of the multi-dimensional Universe we are, have always, and always will be in--however, the questions of life-and-death, from the linear earthly perspective of a five-sense biological existence will never be accurately answered, let alone experienced and understood to the inner-most workings of the soul, until they are examined "in the light" of the laws governing these higher vibrational dimensions.

I hope everybody reviews UG's post about Immaculee, and "Left to Tell"--just watched an amazing documentary over the weekend about the two Catholic nuns who were tried and convicted of actively assisting the death squads of Rwanda in perpetrating the unbelievable nightmare that Immaculee survived, and how she did it, and what brought her to this "State of Grace."

It took 100 days for this government-orchestrated genocide to massacre over 1,000,000 people; on one day alone, between 10 AM and 3:30 PM, 65,000 Tutsis and moderates from the Hutus died in this most-brutal person-by-person slaughter; that's 13,000 people per minute, in a country that is not much bigger than many states in the U.S.

Great blog Matt, and wonderful responses from your audience members--the fabulous "Intentblog Clan!" Thank You--Dave

Matt,

I read the following recently and has helped me understand a little about "Grace" and "Surrender" and trusting the Divine, allowing God to carry me through ......

Regards,

Susan

David,

It is exciting to know that scientists are beginning to explore and take seriously spiritual explanations for NDE's and even mystical experiences. There findings will still likely be heavily scrutinized by skeptics, but the skeptics will never be able to disprove, discount, or take anything away from the genuine experiences of bliss and transcendental peace that people who have NDE's or other similar mystical experiences.

Matt: It is equally as exciting to see young "lawyers," such as yourself and Marek, with all the logical training in reasoning and working with words, take "the spiritual" into the very arenas where it is most needed, the "worlds" of commerce and law--although like many who are drawn to the law, your training will stand you in excellent stead, just for the writing skills it gives you.

Kavita just put forth hours-and-hours of energy to do an "E-interview" with myself, like you, an she mention a "love of my life," who now has her own lawfirm in Valparaiso, Indiana.

I screwed up a chance to re-connect with her, for a second time in the same life, and fell desperately sad, and sick, as a result.

But....the Intentblog brought a new one to me, an established writer, but this time, from just the other side of the eastern Indiana border, in Toledo, OH--we are having our first "playtime" to meet each other this summer, as "she is taking me" to a Deepak weekend--thank God for women's lib--rules are made to be broken!

Gotta a real fondness for those mid-west women from the "Heartland"--I am learning well from "them" that "first it is friendship and unconditional love," and the rest will be added unto you--keep writing Matt, have always loved the sound wisdom from your many contributions to the Intentblog. Dave

Hi All!

Matt, Great post.

In regards to the discussion concerning miracles, God, near death experience etc., I would just like to add that because we can scientifically break down a phenomenon into understandable components does not make the "miracle" less of a miracle. The reality is that many have experienced these things and had their reality changed, their perceptions broadened and peace brought into their lives. In other words A.J., the miracle is not the "thing" itself, it is what happens after.

The fact that we all live here, can perceive and have rules that we can quantify and count on, is actually mathematically miraculous. The Universe SHOULD be chaos; without order or definition. In fact the fact that anything quantifiable happens is a miracle in and of itself. Essentially it is not only improbable it is impossible that anything orderly happens. And yet it does...we live in a Universe filled with scientifically verifiable laws that we can question.

Miracles are not an odd phenomenon, rather they are the way that the Universe does everything. Maybe one of the reasons that we are so skeptical about miracles is that since everything is miraculous, nothing appears to be? The actual anomoly is the lack of the miraculous.

Peace,
Scott.

Matt Welsh, great blog entry. Loved reading it. Petra talks about, "Universal energy" healing her. I wonder if she means "Reiki". God bless you Matt.

Stan, I loved the tale. Beautiful divine intervention, brought on a miracle and saved you from injury or worse. I am a complete believer in the miracle you wrote about. It does not matter whether people believe in it or not. God bless you Stan.

This happened about 10 yrs ago.I had gone to India. My three daughters were home in WV. My three daughters had planned on going to Walmart. It had just started raining. Right at the minute they were walking out, another friend stopped over unexpectedly. So Lena the youngest decided to stay back, and watch TV. The older two went and the four wheel drive went off one of the most dangerous roads in the hills near our home and landed at the bottom of a hollar(hollow),caught between trees. Except for the two front seats, the rest of the car was unidentifiably crushed. My daughters had minor bruises to their skins, but were mentally very shaken. I thank God Lena decided to stay back, I thank God Puja's friend came home at the precise moment, I thank God Puja and Archana came out fine. They both had to climb out of the broken window. I have no doubt in my mind there was divine intervention there.

Miracle or Wishful thinking?

Impossible or Improbable?

Hypocrite: The real question is "possible, or probable?"

Instead of asking "why," ask, "why not?" Dave

Guys..gues who's quotes are these..;)

'..From a pure heart anything can be accomplished. If you ask what the universe is doing, it is eavesdropping on your every desire...'

'..there is no hierarchy in miracles..'

'..the conspiracy of improbability..'

..?

'..You can be a messenger of miracle to the world. You do not need anything else to create this universal miracle. You are already all that you need to make a world of real magic..'

Thanks Marek.

Geeta - thats an amazing story, thanks for sharing it.

BTW Marek, I listen to everything in music. My favorite probably tends to be country music ie Tim McGraw, but I also really like Black Eyed Peas, Bruce Springsteen, Jack Johnson, U2 . . a little bit of everything

Matt, what are your greatest aspirations?

North

Dear Geeta,

Thanks for your kind words and blessing.

I didn't mention what I was wearing in my story of what happened to me when I got thrown off that motor bike.

I had no helmet and was wearing shorts a tank top and sandals. I was thrown onto the pavement in rush hour traffic going over 60 mph, and had only a few cuts and scratches on my hands and feet. There can be no doubt that it was a miracle with devine intervention.

Kind Regards
Stan

Sounds like the universe cushioned you Stan!! Amazing journey's we humans can have!

North,

I love speaking and writing about the power of the human spirit. I intend to continue to be an inspirational speaker and writer and see where that takes me. I would also like to use my law degree to assist other writers and speakers with their business and legal affairs.

Matt, I wish you all the luck in the world, in assisting speakers and writers, and writing about the power of the human spirit. I know it(44, 45) was addressed to North, but I felt like jumping in to wish you luck. God bless Matt.

Matt, a great aspiration, and wonderful intent!!

I wish you much success-the triumphant human spirit-is certainly worth mention(smiles.)

You are a great inspiration to your peer-group Matt; and even those of us, many years up on you! : )

Last night,I had a beautiful dream: I was attracted by a voice, followed the voice, I found a small boy, he seemed different from us,so I asked the boy where he came from? The boy told me he came from another world.Later on, the wall in front of me turned to be a screen, I saw a beautiful silver white world inside, some people were ski there, it was a peaceful, beautiful & harmonious world. So I wondered how all of these good things happened? The answer came to me itself in dream: it's our mind make all wonderful things come true.

dream_butterfly: Lucid dreaming! No wonder there are so many "wise one's" who say this world was created from "that world;" or maybe this world is just another dream I'm having while I'm sleeping in "that world!" What a "true dream" you shared. Thank You--Dave

Well, Matt, the way I see it,
