The Task at Hand; becoming a new humanity

A heart wave is surreptitiously, increasingly and tenaciously surging in the world, as we meet and relate, in glances, smiles, embraces, e-mails, chats and blogs, in spite of our cynicism, and the seeming chaos magnified by a shortsighted and hyperbolic media and our ever excitable minds.
It reverberates every time we come together, to share an inner vision. We feel it; we strengthen it by feeling it, in our silence as “…. a palpable felt sense that we are all going in the same direction. It’s often seen as a general, mega-movement for change”.
The blending of the head and heart is not easy. This is the collective challenge of our times, and the everlasting challenge of humanity. I believe that the critical clarifying question is: what is the translation into mind language of the heart impulse that is emerging? But I think it is not only a question of individual or collective brain limitations; it is a question of learning again how to express the language of the heart, through our limited mental language, however sophisticated.
Our heart, feels in its inner experiences the glow of love, it has glimpses of the unity of the spirit, and thus seeks expression through self-giving tendencies that unite us and make us selfless and generous. Our mind in its objective handling of the material world, is saturated with experiences of multiplicity and separateness, and therefore feeds the egocentric tendencies that divide us and makes us selfish and possessive. Therefore, there is a conflict between the inner voice of the heart based on intuition and the deliberations of the intellect, based upon the apparent and superficial aspects of life.

I believe the greatest challenge we have in our times; the greatest need is to achieve this balance. Then the wisdom civilization will dawn.
The basic obstacle for mind-heart integration is intellectual bigotry; the claim of possessing the monopoly of Truth, exclusive of others. For intellect, however keen and quick, is just one of the stepping stones to wisdom, inspiration, illumination, and knowledge, which are above it. For us to keep playing on the stepping stone, however polished and shining it may be, is like sitting tight over an idle heap of hoarded wealth.
The answer to the arrogance of intellect lies in the honesty of I don’t know. It lies in the awe. If we could be able for just one second to hold our minds still. To suspend our opinions, our declarations, whether they sound scientific, business-like, or spiritual, and bow down our heads in recognition of our ignorance, in appreciation of our consciousness, and in deep love to our brotherhood in this life experience, with all of its fragility, wonder and joy. Then we would connect, and our beautiful minds be enabled to orchestrate themselves with meaning and feeling, and we would allow ourselves to vision and labor towards a new reality, emerging from the harmony of our mind-hearts.
The question is: what is this formula that will make us humble, so that we collectively “see the light” in this hologram of Being? It is love. So simple, so pure, so unassuming, so shy, this deep sentiment of consciousness, now “branded” as a sophisticated business of glands and charity.
What is bringing us together in this yearning for a new culture, is the reverberation of Love’s call, the “knock from within”. For a moment we come together and rejoice. Then we wonder, how can we share this feeling? Scale it up? How can we base our policies, actions, our day to day lives on this feeling?
We ponder and think, and then we say our piece and our words become like our dogs and property, and we follow them, and we become attached, and after a while our theories become more important than the feeling of oneness that brought us together. And we live alternating the felt presence with our own self-definitions.
Our real task is therefore, to pierce our layers of self-imposed self-sufficiency and expose ourselves to the layer of vital awareness of the world around us, open ourselves to love, which would teach us so much if we can only allow it to.
I believe that we can collectively (as individually it has always been the case) tap into our hearts’ longing, and envision and take the transformational steps towards a desirable world. But to do this we will need some new thinking, rooted not in our intellectual self-sufficiency, but in our surrender to awe, in allowing the channeling of the immanent forces of life to come through, with their wisdom. Then ideas, business skills, ignorance, passion, poetry, science, spiritual practices, and daily common sense will come together, like a bouquet, and rearrange into a meaningful set of inspired actions, that will foster a social behavior and a cultural context rooted on an integral vision of life.
New trends in energy technology, and other developments, clearly demonstrate that it is not lack of practical ideas that is keeping the new humanity from coming forth now, it is our own ignorance, our selfishness, our addiction to this illusion of separateness that keeps us so.
So our challenge, in my view, is not to come up with grand designs, it is not to come up with new social architectures; nor the high-sounding repetition of profound truths that have been around humanity for a long time. Our real main challenge is: how to develop an attractive strategy, that brings together and keeps together cohesively, all of us who are yearning for a new way. We all get our cosmic e-mail, we all hear the “knocking from within”, now we need to recognize, and share this experience, and since it happens within a variety of cultural and personal contexts the descriptive language for it is necessarily diverse. Thus the second challenge is translation, the finding of a common language.
The third and most difficult challenge is how we overcome the temptation to believe that our personal interpretations, however lofty we think they can be, are it. The only antidote for this omnipresent human disease is to be humble in our awe for the magnificence of Being, and to help each other in being attentive to one another, reminding ourselves constantly that we all are really One.
Like Hafiz said: “How do I listen to others? As if everyone was my beloved Master speaking to me his cherished last words.”

Many here at IB will resonate with your thoughts at a personal level. People here talk about knowledge and love, cerebral and heart matters all the time. They talk about objectivity and truth, bias and projections many a times. They talk perspectives and judgments and assumptions. They talk about reasoning, logic and emotions. They talk about insight, inspiration and knowledge, wisdom and humility. They also talk about world at large from the experiences of an individual.
I belong to the IB community and you have covered many important angles and I have two words to say about this article: Brilliant and Timely.

There are already numerous internet sites of awareness and heading for the direction you mention in your article. I know of a lot of sites that have links to numerous other ones. What if this is our evolutionary scheme of things? What if this is going to happen by itself?
I agree with you to combine and unify this effort as much as possible. But most of us cannot attend meetings in personal, so it has to mainly be done through the virtual (Internet)
world in my opinion.
Lots of organisations try to coordinate all the personal efforts that are already been made. Up till now chaos is the result.
These are only a few questions of mine because i honestly would not know how to go about this worldwide :)
Torch of the Apostles. The other day in conversation with my dog, who only smiles to my musings understanding my ignorance, I was telling him about the sun and the universe and the powers that keep it together. We were both standing in awe a a magnificent sunrise and I was wondering if it was the US Goverment, the United Nations or the World bank that was behind the clockwork precision and incredible complexity of that show. I concluded that they were not involved. Funny I said to my dog, that these same universal forces who orchestrate this complicated show have nothing to do with the destiny of humanity. They are powerless to control our mess -I said-. My dog looked at me compassionately and wagged his tail.
Yes UG, I resonate with what you had to say to Arsenio. He seems to be an Honest humble self reflective man! Keep it up Arsenio! But beware of the eternal dark side of human psyche. I can write 10 articles like yours every wk. Easy! But as long as the basics don't change....all these articles will only be words. Takes you into a nice rosy world...and then the harsh reality of the world glares at you.

I feel like you that it is song emerging from the ground, an evolutionary impulse or a pulse divine, whatever language suits the mind. But the emergence is beyond our control, all we can do is share it, for this treasure of love consciousness, contrary to Wall Street logic, "increases when shared with others". So all we can do is share, connect, celebrate. By connecting with those around us who are feeling the new song, linking worldwide via this extended field of mind-heart offered by the Internet to a sizable few, maybe we can create a critical mass to sing in choir, loud and clear enough to wake ourselves fully as well as our still deep sleeping human kin. But the song is coming from deep inside the ground, like sunshine.

I did like your works of recent and I agree with
what you have said. Sorry if conversations between
students here become one-on-one and often change subjects.
After a day or two we've come to expect it.
I love playing with letters myself. I like to
"fool around" with English rules and Nature's tools.
I tend to laugh at what comes thru, often,
pretty much as if someone else wrote it...
maybe they did. Is it that way for you?
How much, if any, credit does the poet deserve?
And how do we realise the applause or reaction
of un-known, silent readers? Isn't that like asking a comic
to perform without a crowd of laughter? How else
can they know if their work is funny, if not for an audience?
Do you still enjoy other's compliments and praise?
So it's the ego who loves it, naturally!
If such is the case, I have a long road to tread
before I can properly say, "I don't care what others think".

I sing in the bathtub for pure pleasure. Like the birds do in my backyard. I could not care a fig for either praise or criticism about my singing (although if someone is sleeping and I intrude his/her space I would stop it). Same way about these poems and musings. They come from inside, I fish them from that brook of words. Sometimes, but only sometimes I like to let them out, like a song in the bathtub. Share them. I am not attached to the content, and the feeling that evokes them is so intimate that is futile to bring to a round table. Only an embrace, a smile, a shared moment of love and understanding can recognize it. The rest is just this inevitable parakeet chatter as we wait and flow.

To really be "one" is to see all of it as ourselves...the "good" and the "bad". Indeed there is no other. All struggle, all need to change or fix disappears in this perception. No need to save the world. Accept the inner world and the outer world shifts...there is really only one.
Reading these posts helps me see me fully.

But then all are prompted to express whatever is required, for the play to be as majestic as it is. Yes. Duality disappears once knowledge of self as one dawns. And that cannot be a thought but an experience. So while we are embedded in this separation as Arsenio and Akasha we must play our role. And if singing a song is the way we feel we can save the world, by all means let us sing. It is all part of the play anyhow. Like sunshine and nighttime.

dear arsenio, your intuition regarding the immanent forces of life is literally so true that i am compelled to refer you to my book Self Designed Universe (www.selfdesigneduniverse.com) which exactly predicts the coming of the New Age of the kind mentioned by you in terms of what scientists have discovered some time back as four fundamental forces of nature.
and here is just one relevant paragraph (four fundamental forces are also called interactions by scienstists so here too these are used in the same manner). it mentions how the evolution at all levels moves in fact in terms of four fundamental forces or interactions and how because of the fourth one of them, clled the weak forces or interactions it is now moving towards the New Humanity at the global culture level:

It’s a profoundly thought provoking ideal, 'integration of heart and mind', but as you mentioned, "A heart wave is surreptitiously, increasingly and tenaciously surging in the world", this wave unless felt strongly and deeply by the individual cannot actually translate into the successful integration of heart and mind. An unconscious participation in this wave by the individual will take ages to actually culminate into a 'mass integration of heart and mind'. The ideal being the most noble and the most wholesome, the need of the hour is the strong appeal to the individual for this ideal and more than that, the ‘motivation’ to work towards it. But as UG mentioned, the dark side of the human psyche is so dark, I am at constant war with myself to integrate my head and heart. I humbly thank you for reminding me today and now. Thanks for this wonderful contribution.

It is an age old debate within all in time and space. How much of the sunshine shining depends on our efforts? How much on the timing of dawn iteself? Who knows. I don't. But like my dog said in his wise silence, the same forces that enable the sun's shining, will be enabling our shining. I am sorry to inject cynicism into this discussion. I do not believe that everyone feels this "knocking" in their heart. Could the writer explain why he feels this sense--that the world wants to embrace Love. I cannot be swept away on this current of belief. Most are complacent if not downright selfish. This is reality.

I don't believe you are being cynic. Just skeptic. Everyone is a lot of people. The knowcking in the heart is a most intimate happening. Hard to count and measure, I agree. But after many years going around the planet in different capacitoies I have come to observe with my intuitive eye, not a calculator, that many, many people are having a change of heart and there is a change coming. Your saying that most are complacent is drawn from the same subjectivity as my saying this, belief is a question of opinion. But then some said once "it is infinitely better to hope for the best than to fear the worst". And remember, as my dog told me in silence: the sun does shine every day, and maybe, just imagine maybe, the same forces that enable this incredible phenomenon of hydrogen bombs exploding 93 million miles away and caressing molecules to enable life, are also nurturing the human condition.

Aren't your observations with your intuitive eye, the changes of heart you are seeing on the planet, really an outward manifestation of what you are inwardly experienceing?
Just yesterday I walked into a coffee shop and greeted people with a smile and I genuinely felt light-hearted and at ease...I was greeted with the same in return and as I left I commented to myself, "People here are so friendly." When I heard myself say this, I chuckled out loud.

I like what you wrote. And this is the third time I've read something you posted and been moved to tears. What's up with this?! You catch me off guard. In a good way. I don't think it's even your words so much as what's in between the lines.
I love that Hafiz quote. I think humility is where it is at. At least for myself right now. If God could keep me humble my mind would be quiet all the time. Only listening. Then I would disappear. Only God would speak through me. I think then I would be truly free.

Wonderful post Arsenio! Perhaps one of the easiest ways we can express the love you speak of, and to conquer the arrogance and bigotry of our intellect, is to practice kindness. If we put kindness first in all our interactions with others (and ourselves), think about what power that could have, especially when it crosses social and cultural boundaries. Also, I believe it was Wayne Dyer who said that kindness not only benefits the persons giving and receiving it, but also those who observe it. Maybe what we need is a critical mass of kindness!

I've always believed the human spirit, craves witnessing. We congregate with our expressions and versions of dramatic events which ignite, or defuse our soul's stagnation or growth.
I feel at my best, when I am creating something. Today, I made 20 beautiful greeting cards by hand.

As I said is just chatter- bird chatter- making musings and noises as we wait. I loved "jabberwocky" and laughed. Thanks lets chatter together brother as we wait. Lets sing in the bathtub any song. To imagine light and make burdens light is always better than seeing darkeness everywhere, which is just the absence of light, and making of every word and sentiment a battlefield of derision and intellect.

What about the barking of a rabid dog or the stench of a dead bird? Don’t you have words for them too? Don’t they inspire you to chatter about……?
Do you see the objective reality of the physical world as different from what is revealed to our senses? If you do would you labeled it “Modern Science”? Do you acknowledge the strange world that lies just beneath the surface of our daily life?
Doesn’t your imagination inspire and uplift (also trick) your soul and others into optimism and their eventual well being when touched by your words?

I love this concept of heart and mind melding as one. In the western culture, it is often drilled into our children's belief system to make choices based on the mind. Then, the heart is often filled with emotions of love, laughter, passion, and compassion. These emotions might appear to pull the individual from making "the right" deciscion.
If we, as a global society, stay more heart centered in all our actions, our mind would always make a beautiful choice between right and wrong. I know in my heart if we stayed in our heart and looked in to the eyes of our opponent, blood would never be shed again... only kisses blown.

Hi Anon...Sorry I missed answering your question in ur earlier post. Oh, I live in the wonderful country India now. I lived in Vancouver BC for abt 3 yrs and earlier in Melb Australia for abt 2yrs. And been to many places in US, as most of my college doc friends live there. Had a relatively good taste of different places and different cultures.
Daktery? Wow!! I was born and brought up in Hyderabad. So a real Hyderabadi. Musalmano ke saath guazare se hoon zindagi...friends se leke girl friends tak. I know them quite well, this is the reason why I can talk so much abt them. But I love the Sweetness and Royalness in their language, and their food is very rich.
Daktery nahin mate. Never into clinicals really, but deeply Ingrained in me that cl.approach in dealing with things. Since college days...the only thing I ever wanted to do was to teach. The energy of teaching Overflows in me. My no:1 Passion. I've taught undergrads, mt's, allied health professionals....but the money oriented system gave me no joy and fulfillment. Ran after those things which gave me joy. Found it...but still have a way to go on some fronts.
Coming back to humor...ok, if you don't answer who you're, will assume you're the one&only. Mama knows eh? Before it was Papa answers. But man, your post of Mama knows sent me reeling into laughter....Sitting in the centre of circle and perceiving:)) My God!!! But the real poetry comes when u fall Deep in love with a woman. When u experience that full range of emotions for her. The pain, agony, joy, peace and ecstacy. No mate...not just words, but these are true emotions when u feel with her, That is when the real poetry comes. What that Good Man Rahul Pandita says....he wants to be in misery and feel that misery close to his heart to write that way. Understandable! Even though from a spiritual perspec it's not the best. But I understand that's the passion and involvement one needs in order to write at those depths.

Papa must have gotten into Mama's head and she must have liked Papa to allow him in. Or perhaps disliked Papa and wanted to tell others that Mama knew too. But who knows who really knows what. One thing is certain, though. God knows what Papa answers and also, what Mama knows.
Papa thought that mama could answer too, but she insisted only on knowing those things that only papa answers, and since papa answers many things, mama must know a lot of things. Perhaps next time papa will ask mama before he answers whether she knows everything papa answers.
How interesting! I do not know these are things of heart or of mind. Only Mama Knows. Papa can answer what mama does not know, and she knows that she does not know what papa answers but insists she knows. Now you know, mama knows whether she knows or not. The divide between separate and non-separate self is a primary divide that influences the types of systems human beings create. Most systems have been developed with a strong emphasis on either the strongly separate or strongly non-separate view of the individual.
Adam Smith wrote the Wealth of Nations in 1776, creating many of the principals of modern economics and coined a phrase, the invisible hand, that has come to represent the idea that the operation of pure self interest in a market economy is the best way to create the greater good. Mr. Smith was a Scottish moral philosopher who accomplished his life’s work during the industrial revolution before the invention of, the cotton gin, car, and most of the products and services that comprise the modern global economy.
The invisible hand is mentioned once in the Wealth of Nations, when the author wrote, “By preferring the support of domestic to that of foreign industry, he intends only his own security; and by directing that industry in such a manner as its produce may be of the greatest value, he intends only his own gain, and he is in this, as in many other cases, led by an invisible hand to promote an end which was no part of his intention. … By pursuing his own interest he frequently promotes that of the society more effectually than when he really intends to promote it. I have never known much good done by those who affected to trade for the public good.”
The last two sentences define the moral core of capitalism on the premise that intentional action to create positive results for society (others outside the self interest of an individual economic actor) in the exchange of goods and services (the economy) is futile. Once intentional creation of the general good is eliminated as a reasonable pursuit we are left with little accountability for the results of our actions outside the limits of our own skin. A resulting moral impotence and deep cynicism has been one of the major results of adopting Mr. Smith’s moral stance for our economic system.
The economic and political system in the U.S. is heavily weighted toward the definition of self as irreducibly and only separate. Any significant proposals for change to the economic and political system that acknowledge the non-separate dimension of self are seen as a threat to the freedom of the absolutely separate self. When change is advocated from the non-separate self point of view it is resisted as if it were threatening the existence of the separate self. Paradoxically the real threat to the separate self is the threat to the whole self, caused by continuing to maintain and expand a system based on a partial vision of the self.
This dilemma can’t be resolved by revolutionary victories of one partial view of the human individual over another. The alternative is to devise a system based on the whole self, not at odds with it’s own multidimensional character. The dynamic character of this process will be movement toward wholeness, which is a revelation in the consciousness of the individual, leading toward a progressively more comprehensive inclusion of the separate and non-separate dimensions of self.
Human existence is irreducibly both separate and non-separate. A political and economic system based on this assumption can be structured to and support the development of both aspects of the individual.

Here is how the new humanity is emerging:
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Americans are more socially isolated than they were 20 years ago, separated by work, commuting and the single life, researchers reported on Friday.
Nearly a quarter of people surveyed said they had "zero" close friends with whom to discuss personal matters. More than 50 percent named two or fewer confidants, most often immediate family members, the researchers said.
"This is a big social change, and it indicates something that's not good for our society," said Duke University Professor Lynn Smith-Lovin, lead author on the study to be published in the American Sociological Review.
Smith-Lovin's group used data from a national survey of 1,500 American adults that has been ongoing since 1972.
She said it indicated people had a surprising drop in the number of close friends since 1985. At that time, Americans most commonly said they had three close friends whom they had known for a long time, saw often, and with whom they shared a number of interests.
They were almost as likely to name four or five friends, and the relationships often sprang from their neighborhoods or communities.
Ties to a close network of friends create a social safety net that is good for society, and for the individual. Research has linked social support and civic participation to a longer life, Smith-Lovin said.
People were not asked why they had fewer intimate ties, but Smith-Lovin said that part of the cause could be that Americans are working more, marrying later, having fewer children, and commuting longer distances.
The data also show the social isolation trend mirrors other class divides: Non-whites and people with less education tend to have smaller social networks than white Americans and the highly educated.
That means that in daily life, personal emergencies and national disasters like Hurricane Katrina, those with the fewest resources also have the fewest personal friends to call for advice and assistance.
"It's one thing to know someone and exchange e-mails with them. It's another thing to say, 'Will you give me a ride out of town with all of my possessions and pets? And can I stay with you for a couple or three months?" Smith-Lovin said.
"Worrying about social isolation is not a matter of nostalgia for a warm and cuddly past. Real things are strongly connected with that," added Harvard University Public Policy Professor Robert Putnam, author of "Bowling Alone," a book on the decline of American community.
He suggested flexible work schedules would allow Americans to tend both personal and professional lives.

I also have a number of friends who are either doctors, or who have doctors in the family; I work in a business that serves the medical profession, and am in contact with doctors every work day. I have never encountered a single doctor who would publically address another person as Sachin did here, to both . and AJ.

The logic I say is not sound in both cases (including me). The inherent flaws are apparent to anyone who reads my reply, like you did. To see the same flaw in what AJ says which isn't so apparent to many is my intention.
The choice of words doesn't matter if the subject who uses it sees an apparent justification (and being aware of it) to bring a salient point into picture given the past histories and what transpired between those two in verbal arguments. This choice of words should not be confused with the message or the CHARECTER of the person who uses it on a case to case basis and has his current record to prove the point. This attribution error or a TRANSFERENCE is a human fallacy which one needs to be conscious about.

Sachin, they are many people of Indian origin in USA with high profile positions - doctors, attorneys, engineers, restaurateurs and hoteliers. The silicon valley is full with Indians. I admire them all. I do not know what kind of human qualities they have. I would not like to make comments on them. They do not bother me. I do not bother them.

main nahi samji -- my hindi doesn't even make it to rudimentary yet -- i've been stuck on all the different romanization flavors (nahi, nahii, nahin, etc.). to break that logjam, i started with devangari a couple of weeks ago. thus my newfound love of l-c, to enforced my discarding caps as i learn the script. but i can pronounce what you wrote! tho don't know its full meaning. but being able to say it is a good step forward even tho you'd laugh at how sloppy i am -- hindi (and tamil) really make use of the mouth, compared to english. i love love love hindi. and i love tamil too but that's going to take a lifetime to learn.

I have sometimes commented on harsh and cruel words spoken here at intent, but rarely engage directly with ones that use that form of communicating.
I understand/perceive a great deal - perhaps more than you realize. I have come to believe that kindness and understanding can transform oneself and another in ways that cruel words cannot.
Honesty is its own reward. So is kindness, and compassion.

Dear Kate, I am so happy for Lee.. he's got working days scheduled weeks in advance.. everything is unfolding as it should for him. His course is only 8 months instead of 9+; so he's now realizing he must find work down south for that 4 months off school; and save at least 4-5 grande to fall on, if he can only find part-time.. etc. Lots to consider, etc... this means, he'll not be coming home for summers as he anticipated, as they had to sign a lease for their apartment, if they get accepted, and accept. whew!
I just may move south too. I mentioned I'm not following him.. lol. I did live there for 4 years in the late 70's though.. lovely big city! Can't get bored or restless there, as a mere walk, is a true adventure in itself... I love the ancient lime-stone buildings and harbour bank-walls and fountains... the once, humungous mansions owned by the very rich, with servant quarters, in a building in the back. A lot of these are now Queen's U. student apartments... was then, anyway. Some are old, and run down. Depends on the owners.
I have lots of old friends there.. would love to make contact with them again too... I was very artisticly/poeticly inclined living there... so scenic, and ancient....

The principle of projection is well-established in psychology.

Transference...Basically means what the english word in normal conversations mean. Transfering from one point to the other. Below is a very neat explanation I've found and the example illustrates the concept so well.
"The main characteristic (of transference) is the experience of feelings to a person which do not befit that person and which actually apply to another.
Essentially, a person in the present is reacted to as though he were a person in the past. Transference is a repetition, a new edition of an old object relationship. The person reacting with transference feelings is in the main unaware of the distortion.Transference is reacting to a person in the present as though he or she were a person in one's past.
Most of us can think of glaring examples of transference (in the sense of the metapsychology definition given above) which occur when a person is triggered into an unresolved traumatic incident. For example, a husband and wife are having an argument about the house. The wife has an unresolved traumatic incident in which she was beaten by her father for leaving her clothing on the floor. The husband begins to shout about her clothing and thus restimulates this past traumatic incident. She curls up in a fetal position, crying: "Please don't hit me!" In this situation, it is clear that she is reacting to her husband as though he were her father.
Most transference reactions are quite subtle, however, and have much more to do with core issues and identity problems than with past traumatic incidents"
Dear North...Plz read this post of mine before if you can. I'm writing this with as much softness I can cultivate. I do know that you respect my knowledge on certain matters, and I try my best to use that knowledge in the best possible way.
First thing I like to say is...I'm not saying all that is you. Not at all!!!! I've definitely seen some of the things in you, of what you described of what you went thru'. I did express my compassion too before to you on that.
The explanation above is basically that of Two wonderful concepts of human psyche. You won't believe that this is not considered to be abnormal really. Why? Becoz it is seen so commonly in the human pyshce, that it is almost a normal phenomenon. Almost everyone goes thru' it at some stage or the other.
I'll give u my example..I'm trusting you on this, that u will not tamper it. Projection? I used to Project my Ideals on Deepak. Some of them which were really mine..I used to think he was like that, without knowing much abt him...becoz I liked him so much. Only after later hearing to the critics, I realized what I thought abt was not true in him, but it was only Ideals I projected it onto him.
So my piece of advice to you...lovingly I'm telling you this North...that becozof your past, the abuse you suffered. Tremendous it was!! No second thoughts on that and most feel fo it. But what is happening is you're still carrying it, and as in the example mentioned in transference, whenever u see anything even remotely like one of ur past dreadful events....those past reactions get stirred up and instantly your mind thinks, it's the same as past becoz of the fear u experienced in the past.
There are lot of times when the recepient is nowhere close to the person of the past, and generally the recepient goes in shock. "God! What's happening here?" But once the dynamics are understood we know it's basically the repetition of a past pattern. This is the reason why the Patterns in our heads are so important. The one biggest block to peace and healing is always the Ego....by hook or crook it wants to stand upright and in doing that it commits all this. If one attains control over that Ego and be comfortable with whoever we are, howmuchever imperfect and sick we are, then a Different kind of peace dawns inside, which none can shake.
I hope you receive this well, as I have written this with lot of focus and attention. It requires energy to organize and present it.

You will find a huge amount of information regarding Cognitive Distortions and biases on the internet. It is a fruitful topic to explore for anyone who is interested in the imperfections of human mind in how it perceives and makes decisions.

Counter-projection:
"When addressing psychological trauma the defense mechanism is sometimes counter projection, including an obsession to continue and remain in a recurring trauma-causing situation and the compulsive obsession with the perceived perpetrator of the trauma or its projection."
"All projections provoke counter-projection when the object is unconscious of the quality projected upon it by the subject."
Given counter projection, there are many innocent victims of projections and have a tough time coming out of it. I gave a lot of thought to this process and found this to be true in my experiences. People who are subjected to projections should have an understanding of this and this conscious knowledge will help them a lot when they are targeted.

It's seen quite commonly, but what is imp is when it turns from physiological to pathological....that is when it has to be caught and needs attention.

i respect your mind. this comes from that. to judge a person from the outside may be too limited a perspective. for example... imagine i had recently been injured in a car accident. imagine you did not know that. imagine that my comments became more emotional and verbose than they used to be. you might well start to tear me down. but what if you knew about the accident and thought about how it might be affecting me? you might be reluctant to tear me down then. so what do you know of anyone's life here? not much i would guess. so isn't your perspective limited? what if you found out more about the life of someone you're tearing down, and realized you should have been more gentle?

You have made a few salient points in the above comments. Yes, if one were to become aware of existing or pre-existenting conditions about another commenter, as you have indicated, it is quite possible to remit ameliorated or altered responses to that person, accordingly.
But the subject in question is judged by his overbearing, exagerated and highly aggressive tone. Perhaps he did suffer some form of psychological or physiological injury that we may not be aware of.

Dear Heather,
To live can be very difficult when the body - or mind - is not healthy. Understanding and compassion are balms to ease suffering, in my experience (for others reading - this is my experience, and I am not attempting to preach). A sense of playfullness and humor seems to help as well.
It was these qualities I worked on when my daughter was given a death sentence by the physicians treating her. Sometimes all I could do was cry. Sometimes I lashed out, but mostly I lashed out at myself.
I won't be writing back here, but I did want to say thanks for the great insights you have offered.

It seems to me that you are trying to get the last word in. The content of the language you use do not befit the ilk of the intelligent; more like that of a street thug.
May I humbly suggest, Sachin, that you get up, right now, walk around the room, take a deep breath, go to the shoe rack, lace on a pair of sneakers, open the door, step outside and go for a long, solitary walk, and clear your head, as you inhale fresh air, assuming that the air is fresh in your neighborhood.
I bet when you come back an hour or so later, you will feel better, much better. If this doesn't help, get behind the wheel of your car, go to a nearby clinic and get the medical staff to asscess your mental health and take whatever medication is prescribed. When you have done all this, you should feel better about yourself and all those you despise and hate.
Moreover, if you still feel tense and angry, go to a library, get literature on anger management and read and read and read. It may help!

Anon...Do you see how much people are into feelings and not into any reasoning. Assumptions, slander, blackening others who expose their inadequacies is so clear.
I'm always Amazed with the Coping mechanism...which u talked abt earlier. It's called self preservation in other words. It's amazing to see the tricks the ego plays, the twisting it does, how it blackens others to save themselves.
I'm always stunned how people DON'T WANT to know the truth abt people. Becoz there is a Deep fear inside, if they know it may Expose all their Irrational thinking and their Sillyness. What's the best thing? To paint the other person as Black as possible and convince themselves with those assumptions, that that is the truth. I had written in that poem of New humanity, that came out well eh? Of how The Ego does all to keep it upright! No matter what, I'll keep my Ego up...care damn abt truth, care damn abt objectivity, clarity....I don't want to know all that. I want my Ego to be up!! I had told this earlier to David...that surprisingly majority of the world suffers from this. What Dear Deepak in his words calls it Egoistic response, how it saves itself by twisting things. As long as the world lives in that stage of thinking and responding...you can guess what will the external world be like. Exactly as you've been seeing in today's world and the past world.
For the Real New humanity....it has to move from that 2nd stage into higher stage of love for clarity and truth....and not in primarily defending one's ego. Then...most certainly yes, a new humanity will dawn. But what % of human population have that control over the ego? Very thin....and that very thin thinks the majority also can become like them. Biggest Illusion!! If you need proof for this...history...what u had said in that funny post of urs...people will always be barbaric. Past present and future. It just varies...ups and downs. The ups of course will be taken as though everything will be fine and rosy for all. You can only smile at them, how they don't want to see the darker side of the complete picture. What they say new wine in old bottle...New human beings with same old psyche. New humanity for you...old humanity packaged in a different style and present it as New humanity.

Unfortunately most of your readers love exchanging pleasantries all day long and have no intellect to understand what Sachin writes here. Only when guys like Arsenio and your dad realize the true worth of Sachin's writings, will the people here, like dumb driven cattle, pay heed to the true essence of Intentblog.
Mallika, I am writing all this in seriousness. Many times my own message is lost in the humor that is apparent in my posts - somebody called it wicked humor. I note that most of the dimwits are not able to appreciate Sachin's messages. I do understand that Sachin has been harsh to some people when they attacked him, but it in no way diminishes his scholarship and wisdom.
I am not appealing to you for any sponsorship on behalf of Sachin. My only point here is to appreciate the potential contributions of a person like Sachin at Intentblog.

Very well Written Anon! The crucial thing between two parties is always understanding of the other. It's true that your often very insightful posts appeal to me, it's becoz you write it objectively and with so much detachment. I understand the mentality of the party on the other side of the fence very very well...hence I'm able to write those posts. I generally, as told u before too, don't like to get into the dark side, becoz I know what they throw at you in that Illogical twisted mode back at you.
I can tell you on thing though Anon...Mallika is daughter of Dear Deepak. She understands a lot of these things. Their philosophy though is quite simple....no rules really for the site, as any wud restrict the freedom...the bar they keep is very high!! Needless to say as with any other thing it's got its pros and cons.
Oh that one...harsh words to whom? Worst were only for One worst...many don't have a clue as to what he wrote to me. Why is it Anon that only one side is seen??? huh? Sachin has done this Sachin has done that?? Does anyone have a sense of justice to see what is done to him? It def is trivial to me in the big picture of my life. I can break down and feel negative abt it, I've become a victim...I'm not that type.
I know people think black of you, but I've always seen the reasoning and observations part in your posts glaring at me. I thought of the Image for a while but then thought amongst whom? Of what use is that Image where people can't see properly? Actually, as said earlier...it is "They don't want to see". To me..one sensible genuine person's opinion wud be 100 times more valuable than those twisters.
Most of the things I told in the post, I've learnt from Dear Deepak himself. I'll tell you one wonderful point. I used to think...Utopia can be created and not very difficult and also I used to think there was really a Golden period in history where everything was rosy. It was this man, whom I used to follow then said "There was no golden period in history ever" Becoz of human nature. Also his other comment...wherever you go in the world to any pocket...you'll find good people and bad people. That Insight changed my life forever. Wherever I go, I know what I'm in for. But he's on a different beat in the present era...Understandable as a world teacher. I fully respect that and I've often mentioned this in my posts to him. However, from to time he also talks abt the dark side. Can u find anyone better than Jr.Bush as an example to talk abt the dark side of human psyche??

You on one side with some of your friends, and Sachin and I on the other side have had some exchanges on our differing views on few things here.
I am extending to you my good will today, and would like to see peace prevail at Intentblog. Isn't it the ultimate goal of Intentblog - the world to live in peace and love?
So let us not criticise each other just for the sake of criticism. All of us here differ in what we think of the world, what the world should think of us and how we should be living our lives. I think this is understandable to all of us. This brings diversity in life, and the world makes progress. Otherwise all like minded people will be heading in one direction, and that may not be the right direction to take. Anyway, leaving aside all these banal, commonplace thoughts, let me come to the central issue of your disliking us and not agreeing with our points of views. I am not going to make any attempt to covert you to anything, but I would like to understand what is the problem here.
So could you please tell us what is that irks you and you come with derogatory statements. It will help us to think and grow.
Is it the use of blogspace that becomes limited to you?
Is it that we differ from your views on god, religion, politics, philosophy of life, your way of living, your intelligence, ignorance, kindheartedness, loving-ness, generosity, friendliness, faith, family values, righteousness?
What is it? Are we not entitled to have our views and you your views? If so, then why hurl insults?
If you would not like to go to a certain physician when you are ill, so be it. It is your choice. It is your life.
If you do not want others to come here and express their views and you tell them to buzz off, it is not your choice and authority. It lies with the blog owners - the Chopra family and Shekhar, I suppose?
When you differ from others and do not tell us why, but start hurling insults, why do you hurl further insults when they respond to you in the same way? Is it not more appropriate to have a dialogue in what we differ and learn from each other, instead of insulting others?
When you say someone has no credibility or shame, what gold standards are you applying? Are you not looking through some colored lens at the world? Others may see things differently. Do you want all of us to agree with you on everything you say?

May I ask, what right you have to say this to anyone here?
I would love to have a response from you. It will add to my understanding of human behaviour. It will teach me how conflicts start and how they could be resolved.

Some priggish piggies will ever remain priggish piggies. So I would not waste my words on them. However I can buy for them as big magnifying mirrors as they wish from any New York City department store to look at themselves.
To pass judgements on others, to sing virtues of their own -narcissistic in nature -reminds me of that old cartoon show for children on TV where Ms Piggy was featured for many years.
Reincarnation, perhaps. After all, many believe in karma and dharma here. But I hope peace and sense soon prevail at Intentblog and people stop being rotten continually. It appears the message of Deepak on peace and love is not being heeded even by his ardent followers. I wonder how he would achieve his dreams of bringing New Humanity to this world.

Insight...I cud talk with you, if you're respectful and fair in the discussion, not the slander and one sidedness. With the ego...it is Swabhiman and Abhiman, not sure if you know hindi to understand.
The biggest problem as I've been saying in a discussion the listening and talking part is not rt. People just talk their sides, that is not a discussion. It's boxing to keep the ego propped up. My biggest problem here has been one person really, and not others. I've asked and told so many things of what transpired and how it all happened...so if you know that and can answer some of my questions...most certainly with sincerity I'll answer...but if go on slander. Sometimes egocentricity works FOR us. Think of the "prisoners' dilemma", a thought experiment wherein there are two prisoners whose individual choices will decide their collective outcome.
What's so amazing about this thought experiment isn't that the choice each person makes when playing the experiment, but that the overwhelming number of individuals--no matter what they choose--assume that the majority of people, the other prisoner, as it were, would also make that same choice.
So as we choose, goodness, we begin to see the rest of the world as naturally good.
That we are "projectors" may be good for the world, for our tribe, as we strive for freedom.
