Intent - August 12, 2006

I'm Rohit Malik from Delhi, India and working on www.DelhiEvents.com these days. After completing my 10th standard in the year 2005, i bumped into osho books (smile) & started
reading them day & night. Those days were very tough yet beautiful because i had to get rid of much garbage which was imposed on me by schools/family.
I learned that life is not divided into good & bad. It carries different shades of grey also. And later in 2001, i went to Osho Commune in pune to find out what kind of place osho has created. It was for a week only but stayed there for more than 3 months. ; - ) Dancing, meditating, meeting people from all over the world & getting rid of my conditionings.........that's how i spend those few months.
It was wonderful to enjoy dancing during White Robe Brotherhood in the evening. They close the gates of commune during that time & stops all activities ouside the auditorium with all lights switched off. Few musicians play light music using instruments like flute, sitar etc. initially while people keep sitting silently except few like me who sometimes used to start dancing starting with slow hand movements. ; - ) This is then followed by dance with fast music. Then most of the people stand up & start dancing which is really very intense experience & It looks wonderful to see people from all over the world dancing wearning white robe. After around 15 minutes, they play osho discourse on many topics like love, relationship, enlightened masters, his idea of commune, Zorba the Buddha etc.
And many times, they played osho's discourse where osho used to tell few jokes & then instructions for no-mind meditation & that was really very deep. Here i'm posting excerpt from Osho Discourse which helped me in going deep in meditation :
<<<
Nivedano...(nivedeno beats the drum)
(Gibberish)
Nivedano...(nivedeno beats the drum)
Be silent. Close your eyes. Feel your body to be frozen; gather all your life energy inwards and look in.
Deeper and deeper.
Find the center of your being.
Finding the center of your being is the door that leads you beyond yourself, that makes you a buddha.
Be well acquainted with this new space you are in, because you have to carry the buddha twenty-four hours -- in your gestures, in your actions, in your words, in your silence, waking or sleeping.
If one can remain with this silence, then there is no need to follow any discipline, any virtue. Everything will happen on its own accord, spontaneously.
And when things happen spontaneously they have a beauty of their own.
It is a blissful moment.
You are dissolved
into an oceanic consciousness,
you are at home,
realizing that which you have carried since the very beginning, for thousands of lives, but have never looked into it...
never searched for it, have taken it for granted.
It is the most precious treasure in you.
It is the whole universe falling in you.
Nivedano, to make it clear...
Relax, and just watch the body, the mind.
You remain a watcher.
Just a watcher.
Your body is born and dies.
Your mind every moment changes.
Only this watcher is your eternity.
Remember it.
Remind yourself of it.
And slowly slowly make it your ordinary, simple life experience, just like breathing. You don't have to make any effort.
When your buddha is that spontaneous,
you have found the truth.
Nivedano... (nivedano beats the drum)
Come back, and bring with you all the fragrance that you have gathered.
Sit down, slowly, gracefully as a buddha, for a few seconds.
This is going to be your lifestyle.
I don't want any followers.
I want everybody to be a buddha,
a master unto himself.
Okay, Maneesha?
Yes, Beloved Master.
Can we celebrate the buddhas?
Yes!
<<<
I won't say more about my experiences in pune commune otherwise it will become too lengthy. ; - )
So, i'll talk about something practical which i'm doing & wants to continue further with those who are interested & being part of it.
I'm working on the website : www.DelhiEvents.com which provides information related to only positive happenings in delhi, india. And i would like to tell you what osho said about journalism as my website is related to that although i'm not a qalified journalist
Here are excerpts related to Journalism from Osho Books :
"THE PROFESSION OF A JOURNALIST is such that it lives on lies. Truth is not news; lies are news, beautiful news. The bigger the lie the better the news, because it has a certain quality in it: the quality of creating a sensation. Journalism lives on lies. If journalists decide only to be true, there won't be so many newspapers, so many magazines. And there will not be much news either. Truth you can write on a postcard."
"Journalism should not be only a business; it should also be a great responsibility towards humanity. It is no ordinary business, it cannot look only for profits. You have many other businesses for profit -- at least don't corrupt journalism for the sake of profit. Journalism should be ready to sacrifice its profits; only then can it avoid fulfilling people's sick needs, and expose their original and basic causes -- which can be removed.
Journalism should be a revolution, not just a profession. A journalist is basically a rebellious person -- who wants the world to be a little better, who is basically a fighter -- and he has to fight for right causes. I never look at journalism as just another profession. For profit, you have so many professions available; at least something should be left uncorrupted by the profit motive. Only then is there a possibility that you can educate people: educate them for a rebellious attitude against all that is wrong, educate them against anything that causes perversions."
"The time is ripe, and journalism can become the beginning of a new era. Push politics as far back as possible, to the last pages of your newspapers. Politics is not our soul, it is the dirtiest game that you are propagating in people's minds. It is absolutely necessary that the politician be made clearly aware that he is not the man of wisdom, that he is not to guide the destiny of the nation; that he is only the servant of the people, his role is that of a functionary."
"One of the greatest revolutions in journalism will be if we can create in this country a different kind of journalism -- which is not dominated by politicians, but is inspired by its wise people. And you can remain absolutely certain that the wise people of any country are not going to fight in the elections; they are not going to beg for votes from the masses. So the wise people by their very nature remain out of power. It should be one of the basic functions of journalism to bring the wise people and their wisdom before the masses, into the light."
"You can have space for news, but that should be secondary. Because what are those news reports? What are they going to do? Somebody steals -- what is the point of reporting it? And somebody commits suicide -- what is the point of reporting it? Why make it news unnecessarily? You are filling your space with absolutely nonessential things.
Bring the essential in. You have poets, you have painters, you have writers, you have spiritual giants -- you can introduce all of them. They should be your major part, and politics should be just your third page, or fourth page -- or maybe no page! You have made these politicians so huge, so exaggerated, and then the whole country suffers. The whole world is suffering because of these people, and you will have to take responsibility for it. These people should be cut down to size and put in their place. Somebody may be the president of the country; that doesn't mean much. The question is whether he is a great president; the quality is the question."
And you are asking, "Can journalism survive on positive news?" I am not saying that; I am saying don't try just to survive on negative news. Bring out the positive, in all its beauty, and put the negative in the background; it should not be the focus. I don't want you just to be positive, I want you to be realists.
The negative side is a part of life, yes; death is a part of life. But that does not mean that you have to make your funeral ground in the middle of the market. You make your funeral ground outside the city, where you go only once and you don't come back. Why don't you make it in the middle of the bazaar so that everybody can see, passing by every day, that people are being burned?
It is part of life, so once in a while you can talk about the funeral, but don't focus on it. Death is certain, but life is more important. Talk about life, make life a celebration. Don't make people too much afraid of death.

Cool. White Robe rocks!
Hi Rohit,
Merely reading Osho transports you to a different world. When you are reading Osho, it seems time has become still; everything falls in place; everything makes sense.
I want to list here another of Osho’s quotes on journalists. This is the most devastating thing ever said about the hacks:
Journalists, Osho said, are impotent politicians. They have failed to make news; so now they gather it!
Sanjeev
Rohit,
Thanks for joining the writer's union with us.
You, rather osho, have expressed my wishes for Mallika's blog.
Sometimes the facts at hand must be presented.
Whether we say,"good news" or "bad news" only
depends upon one's perspective and insight.
Relative to where one sits in lotus position,
the Truth may be near or far from your reality.
Once you exceed up and down, back and forth,
Truth...where the heart is, always hits home.
To look thru the present moment and towards the future effects
is the goal of the seeker of silver linings.
For there is always such a treasure
hidden in the burning Bush'es of yesterday
and the budding Buddhas of tomorrow!
Hi,
I didn't comment on the journalism thing before.
Being a journalist is a big responsibility. Society is depending on you to bring out the things they would otherwise never hear about. The news they wouldn't know, the opinions they may not have considered, and helps to connect the people to each other and to their town, city, country and the world.
To be a journalists takes a sharp sense of conscience, and it takes a sharp sense of right and wrong. There is a responsibility to be fair, but also to call wrong wrong when needed.
Sometimes calling wrong means calling powerful corporate or political people wrong. Such people may try to destroy your professional reputation, launch smear campaigns, blacklist you, or even arrange covert operation to kidnap or kill you.
Ideally, a journalist is up for the challenge. S/he needs good health, a clear mind, a sense of social balance and social justice, and certain fearlessness to go into dangerous places such as war zones, and to ask hard questions to the very people who are trying to avoid the questions s/he must ask.
Finally, the journalist has to report as truthfully as he can, and keep his own ego out of his stories as much as possible.
In reality, a journalist is paid when a publication decides to publish his stories. If the publication doesn't want his story, the journalist doesn't get paid.
One easy way to always get paid is to put journalistic integrity aside, and print whatever politicians and corporations, or the churches want you to say about them. It is less risky, and you know your clients look forward to your work because they will get to vindicate or glorify themselves in the public arena.
It has become a big problem in the so-called "free world".
You can witness the utter and complete failure of the White House Press Corp under the Bush Administration. The failure is total. There's not a gutsy journalist who sticks by the journalistic code in the bunch.
The White House Press Corps is currently a disgrace to the very foundations of their trade. If there is a tough question to ask the President, they can be counted on NOT to ask it. If there is a demanding issue that the White House must face, they can be counted on to "softball" it and cast easy questions that blame all the problems on the White House's critics, or blame all the problems on the other political party.
Like this: "Mr President, given that You are Glorious and Mighty One, above the Law completely, Who can change the law and make it up as you go, and has absolute power, control, and authority over the meek citizens (such as myself), would you please answer my question by reciting, for the umpteenth time, the same old tired White House Talking Points that you have been rehearsing?"
The President will love you. You will get paid. You'll be invited to come back tomorrow. Life is Good.
But you have killed the news. You have turned your back on every journalist who is trying to do the right thing. You have abandoned the journalistic code, you have given away your honor, you have thrown away your trustworthiness.
And you have become part of the problem. The White House Press Corp is now an object for the spreading the very news that they have abandoned the journalistic code. They no longer report news, they have become a news item. And they have become just more bad news for the citizenry whose interests they are supposed to be advocating.
True, the White House has employed strong tactics to make sure no journalist who is going to confront the President gets in the door, but ultimately the fault for that lies with the journalists themselves, who should have banded together and stuck up for the honor of their profession, and to protect their own integrity, and the integrity of their colleagues.
Why didn't they do that? The only possible answer is: no guts.
And it's not just me complaining about this. You can read about it on many blogs, Huff Po and others. There's a real sense among journalists that their trade has suffered greatly over the last six years. The Fundamentalists, the Corporations, the White House and the neoconservative politicians have deliberately set out on a conscious program to neutralize and control the press.
It's the old propaganda wars again. Controlling the sphere of public discourse is seen as essential to maintaining power, or at least to getting policy to flow the way you want it to.
In a "free" country, the press is the agent that is supposed to protect the sphere of public discourse. It is the job of the press to keep the playing field level, to help make sure that the checks and balances included in our Constitution are properly employed to keep one group of people, or even a big coalition of government, religion, and private interests, from corrupting our Representative republic and the principles of democracy that we aspire to maintain.
If you're a journalist, that's the responsibility you have.
Journalists should band together, and support each other in telling the truth, in relaying news as unfiltered as possible, and when it is opinions, to make sure the discussion is thorough, allows all sides to have a voice, and allows the voice of the everyday citizens to be heard as well as the fat cats.
When journalists over-identify with one political party, or allow themselves to be co-opted by moneyed interests, it tears at the fabric of the whole journalism community.
When you sell out, you endanger our country, and you become a threat to our democracy.
Or you can get it right. You're the one who decided to be a journalist. So you have to choose.
Hi
There's an interesting historical/musical notes I'd like to add.
Nivedano, the guy who "banged Osho's gong" (That's a joke - OK?) for the "Born Again" meditations at the Commune, was an original member of the jazz fusion band Weather Report, and his given name is Alphonse Mouzon. He also played with Miles Davis and John Mclaughlin. He is a fantastic percussionist, absolutely world-class.
He is on the very first Weather Report album (click below or on my name at the end of the post), which for my money, is the very best Weather Report album:
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000002868/102-4728050-5520915?v=glance&n=5174
For those not in the know, a number of great musicians have either been Osho sannyasins or stayed at the Pune Commune for varying lengths of time.
Most famous is is Kitaro, who spent a year living in the Pune 1 (before Oregon ranch) commune, just before he began making his best selling records. Kitaro does not, however, consider himself an Osho disciple.
And accomplished Indian classical masters perform there also. Osho and Hariprasad Chaurasia were good friends.
thanks rohit for sharing your experience at the Osho. .. you mentioned that you were able to uncondition yourself in 3 months . WOW ..
cause i thought it take ages. I believe that conditioning is something that your bring forward from your previous births and your family/school .. add to it.
many thanks for posting the osho discourse... am sure will help more of us to meditate
its good news 4 you to join the writer's group.
malik bhai carry on......
a good news for fans of sourav ganguly
“DADA” IS BACK IN TEAM INDIA
After a long wait finally the day come when ganguly-the royal Bengal tiger was selected on the 9 th of august in probable 30 players selected for mini world cup to be held in September.
The selection of “dada” came with a surprise &joy for the supporters of sourav.
SURPRISE because he was not performing well in the recent time
And now he is taken the probables players but at that time when he was performing well in INTERNATINAL CRICKET at that time he was ignored by the selectors this may be due to his rivalrie with
COACH GREG CHAPPEL .
BUT now when he is not performing well in CRICKET then also he is taken in Indian cricket. What is the reason behind it………
What I think is that the ongoing politics in BCCI . from the time when ganguly write an E-mail against MR Jag Mohan Dalmiya regarding the Bengal cricket elections after that it was considered that now ganguly will come back in Indian cricket team because he is not in the so called “DALMIYA CAMP”
And now his slection in probable 30 indicates the politics of bcci which do not consider the performance of the player but just their rivalrie and friendship with other persons.
If this continues with Indian cricket team then that time is not far when our cricket will have no sports spirit and they will just have politics politics and politics in their attitude.
So what do you think about it…..

Dear Navin,
This picture was taken when i went to see manali after attending a meditation camp there in 2004.
And thanks for appreciating my efforts.
Dear Sanjeev,
Yes even reading osho is good meditation. Used to do that alot just 2-3 years back & have read more than 200 of his books. ; -)
But after that i read sometimes only & don't feel like reading much.
Dear Keith,
Yes, i agree that the facts must be presented & thanks for welcoming me....hehe...nice poem!
Dear Yogi-one,
You know why i love osho? Because of his guts. Otherwise i see so many people who knows everything but it requires guts to live & breathe
the truth. And osho never compromised which makes me wonder about his gutsy nature. ; - )
And nice to know that many good musicians joined osho. And it doesn't matter to me whether one calls oneself osho disciple or not. I have
already seen many followers & osho never wanted that.
I have deep respect for those who live a meditative life.....& that's why i'm not calling myself osho disciple here because i don't want to limit
myself to any group.
Dear I am that,
I didn't say that it took me 3 months. I had good experiences in commune in those 3 months but the real work was done when i was alone for
6 years with osho books & deep longing...& tried many techniques myself like exercising for 3-4 hours in the gym & lying down in a hot room
in summer season in the months of may & june. During exercise, i used to go deep in meditation.
So, those few years were wonderful and when you have no support & everything is messed up, there are many chances of your becoming
sincere & try your best in finding your centre.
Otherwise in good times, you start taking things for granted.
Cheers, Rohit
Rohit: It is great to see you here on the weekly intent. Thank you for sharing your Osho commune experience. I wish someday I would be able to spend some time there and experience it first hand.
I picked up several Osho CDs and books on my trip this time again. I found his "Osho Upanishad" very fulfilling because he answers so many questions posed by people in attendance.
Rohit,
Good post. I also love Osho.
Yogi-One,
Very good in #5.
Below there is an example of what journalism is not.
Peace,
Donatella
Headline News Anchor: ‘Might Some Argue That Lamont…Is The al Qaeda Candidate?’
Today on CNN Headline News, anchor Chuck Roberts discussed the impact of the foiled British terror plot with Hotline senior editor John Mercurio. Roberts asked Mercurio, “How does this factor into the Lieberman/Lamont contest? And might some argue, as some have, that Lamont is the al Qaeda candidate?”
Rohit, I have not read OSHO yet, but I am going to change that soon. Thank you for a great weekly intent. I agree with you on the ethics of journalism. God bless.
Dear Rohit,
You have a very special smile and a timeless face, you remind me of a very special person I once knew, that person had the same deep and earthly wisdom that you clearly have through your words of wisdom and of inner feeling...
Thanks...
Love Simon xx
Dear Jaleen,
Nice to hear that you are going through Osho Books/CDs and i hope you will visit the commune soon. I haven't visited there again after my first visit 5 yrs. back. And the place keeps changing with fresh faces & there is a new Air Conditioned auditorium also which must be good in summer season.
The place is like a moving river & that's good.
Dear Donatella,
Good to know that you also love osho. ;- )
Dear Geeta,
You already write like osho & i know you will surely like his books/videos etc.
Dear Simon,
haha....thanks! Blushing! ; - )
Cheers, Rohit
Dear Geeta,

Cheers, Rohit
