Shekhar Kapur - September 20, 2006

Madrid's Fashion Week, the Pasarela Cibeles, announced last week it was banning models with a Body Mass Index, or height to weight ratio, below 18, causing a huge controversy all over the world press, garnering almost as much attention as the Pope and Darfur,
And now a British Cabinet minister has taken up the controversy, asking the London Fashion Week also to ban super thin models.
This is such an unequal world. Why should the international press be so fascinated by this strange controversy when 95 % of the population of our planet are so thin becasue they just cannot get enough to eat !
Are we surprised that there are revolts all over the world against such unequal consumerism ?

Hey Shekhar...that's the Harsh Reality you need to show at IB. It's a Sick world! True!
Thank you for your post: Shekar

I was involved with the GLOBAL DAY FOR DARFUR
on September 17th, 2006 with my partners CSFDarfur youth and I was an MC for the day and
had Senator Jaffer supporting this cause.
Erez a documentarist filmed "CRY FOR A MADIOM"
Guess what???? no theatre would show this movie
reason???? well we all know the answer
Ongoing Genocide In The Sudan:
a unique documentary. A powerful and dreadful experience,
a rare insight into an isle of desperate hope in the ocean of misery called "South Sudan".
A testimony to the lives of some of the most unfortunate victims of Africa's longest war,
and the few Westerners that came to their aid.

Ashie
Hi Shekhar,
You know what is messed up, I presented the executable solution to the above problem and the world is focused on what the pope said, and who is replacing Tom Cruise. I did not hear the UN talking about it either so I suppose they are very serious, or perhaps there all simply blinded by ego.
So DK what is the hold up you have the connections? What do they need massive loan defaults to get them to act?
Do you know where the people are going to head if things start to go bad? The wealthy neighborhoods, the wealthy are going to be the first to feel the Karma. There are not enough police or military to stop the people, they are totally outnumbered.
Do you realize that several weeks ago I wrote about the solution that would have prevented the spinach fiasco??????? Yet everyone simply ignored it I suspect. Maybe that is why the Spinach Fiasco occurred, you think? How many loans do think will be defaulted on?
You know "Nature perfected the destruction of pathogens, and I just duplicated it"
You know if there was a certain "destructive" aspect of God lets say, Shiva like, he might be growing tired of the world’s ignorance, and his finger would be hovering around the reset button. But I say wait a second God give me another chance to get their attention.
So let us suppose there is an all pervading intelligence. Let's also suppose there is no life and death that is just a transitional thing.
Let's say it is all about experience, and a large number of God's points of view are having a bad one. The only way to stop it is to eliminate the "minds" that host the ignorance.
…Conversation with God…
So God I am getting frustrated, it just doesn't seem we can get their attention, its always in the wrong place.
So God says maybe I can do something, to get their attention.
Like what?
How about a massive plague? A big proliferation of pathogens? How about in the next 7 days?
I think that could work I will write about it here and maybe some one will notice. Maybe we can get the world health organizations to speak these words
"This is how you boost your immune systems".
What we really need is a major threat to the world, that way everyone will forget about the past and focus on the present.
Good point says God.
Well maybe there isn't a God, but there sure are lots of people that claim he exists, and they know all about him. Now you don't suppose, if there was a God, he might be trying to send some signals?
But the ego chatter and all the bickering about God makes it such that no one can hear him.
Why don't we give spirit a voice? Why don't we take the wisdom and intelligence provided and run it through the communication channels?
The reason being there might be this other aspect of God, which has a universe to run, as far as you’re concerned you are ants on the sidewalk, and nature is not going to alter it course. Which means the ants better learn to navigate to avoid it's footsteps.
Now one must wonder how much the diversion of attention is created by the media. Now we all know where their main source of revenue is from. Maybe we could cut it off with a little awareness in all the right places. Then the world would turn it's attention to the new independent media while the established one collapses.
Oh well maybe it is all just a dream. I wonder if we will wake up before we hit the ground.
Dear Shekhar,
Inequality is definitely a problem today and the our priority number one is to feed the hungry
-- and stop genocides.
But while the gravity of these two issues cannot be compared, I think that extreme thinness in female models -- whose images are perpetuated by the endless attention from the media -- is in part responsible for the growing cases of eating disorders among women. Pre-teen and teenage girls are the most vulnerable.
Dear DK and Ashie,
Great work. Ashie I'll watch the clip. Thanks.

Everyone should know about the Playground Pump.
SOLUTION Part #1
This allows for the abundance of freshwater in rural areas without electricity.
These help the problem above go away.
What was interesting to find out their are communities even in Texas USA that do not have running water. Click my name.

www.playpumps.org/main_the_playpump.htm
SOLUTION PART #2
The second part is to teach them to grow Amaranth for themselves and the world market. It is so nutritious it can replace infant formula. It grows in poor dry soil.
I will pay $1.00 for each Kilo produced directly to each independant producer.
Seed for an Hectare (2.47 acres) is about $50.00 US. Each hectare will produce 1000 kg or better. So that is $1,000 in revenue, minus labor or actually in this case "sweat equity". Now if you take into account the cost savings to the rest of the world that $1,000 is worth $2,000.
It is actually cheaper and easier to harvest manually.
So perhaps DK can arrange the micro loans, I will take care of instruction, and the supply chain and the awareness campaigns to increase demand for Amaranth and we will be off and running and have hunger and poverty eliminated in 3 years.
Or everyone can continue talking about poverty and hunger and never do anything about it.
So perhaps DK can arrange the micro loans, I will take care of instruction, and the supply chain and the awareness campaigns to increase demand for Amaranth and we will be off and running and have hunger and poverty eliminated in 3 years.
Actually that would be a net income of about $1900.00. Since it is $2.20 per Kg I was thinking lbs. before. A Hectare can actually produce up to 3000 Kg and Amaranth can be planted as a double crop so we will use 1500 Kg twice a year.
So that means on average about $7,200 per year, per Hectare. So say one person's labor could process 1 hectare. The current average daily wage if employed is about $1.00, or $365 per year. We have almost multiplied wages 19 times.
Then someone will sell cell phone service and an internet connection, they can get education online and participate in Self Government.
Next thing they are buying solar cells and generating green house gas credits to sell on the market. Then they are taking all that sun light and generating hydrogen from water.
We also get the empowerment of women, we can get groups of women to create their own little companies they handle management, transactions, and repaying the loans, do a little labor or take care of kids as well, and hire men for the harder "Labor".
The other side effect is the HIV infection will decrease for multiple reasons.
So there we have solved 3 of the major "causes" for which everyone wants donations and funding.
But I was thinking maybe everyone doesn't want to eliminate the need for all these charities. The charities allow people to alleviate their societal guilt at a very cheap price.
the price of values made of clay ...
a need for deeper roots ...
so that in health we grow ...
realizing that in truth ...
there is no difference ...
whether we are dying of hunger..
in the desert lands of Africa ...
or in the richest places of glamour ...
except maybe ...
that the breaking down of the illusions...
rotting underneath the glamor...
could easily become ...
a source...
for an abundant outflow ...
Unicef is doing a lot regarding above subjects.
I guess the first thing to do is to take care of a (still) better cooperation between a lot of those institutions and all the individuals who have and are setting up all kinds of actions.
Guess the U.N. are doing this already.
It is sad that it all still doesn´t get the attention needed, awareness is very important.
Thank you Shekhar
Hey Shekhar,
What’s wrong with you? I mean, most of the guys crave for skinny girls. Skinny girls are good in bed. Honestly speaking, It’s difficult to get skinny 100-120 lbs hot girls here.finding hot skinny girl in Fat Country USA is like finding conservative blogger on intentblog.com or huffingtonpost.com.
Okay,Let's get serious, I agree with you. Powerful celebrities like you should join bono, bill gates ,warren buffet ,branglina etc. Because I don’t think politician will do anything for poor Countries.
Why Don't you next time you make a movie, give the profits to the people in Africa who are starving like the person in that picture?...instead of sensationalising it at their expense. while you smile all the way to the bank.
Regards...
That model's ass fell off about forty feet back, I think.
Good. We ought to ban all models anyway. What a waste of foto paper.
The ban might help control bulimia. I think the bottom picture is particularly disturbing.
Hello Shekhar,
Well, they are both stories of poverty and hopelessness. One side is starvation of the body and the other is starvation of the spirit, both equally teetering on the brink of hopelessness and both deserving of attention.peace ruth
Women, especially, in today's World are getting the message that their bodies are "never" good enough, that, in fact, their natural beauty is something to be ashamed of and they must do everything they can to "adhere" to the standards of the "social" vision of what is considered beautiful. Women are facing an epidemic of distorted body imaging and it is a very serious problem for young girls, worldwide. It is very heartening to hear that some in the modeling industry are finally taking it seriously. peace ruth
89+ percent of the people in the United States suffer from malnutrition which is very profitable to some. Other developed nations have even higher rates. So the ignorance causing the worlds problems is much bigger in scope.
Here is an example. Vaccines are needed because immune systems are weak. A healthy immune system can quickly manufacture a response to a pathogen or virus before it can get an upper hand. An impaired immune system is slow to repond.
So does it not make sense to support the immune system? No it does not if you profit from vaccines, other drugs and treatments.
I never use bandaids or antiseptic and I never get infections from cuts if I even get them. In fact there is very little inflamation, and never any pus. Could it be my neutrophils are numerous and armed and dangerous with Hypochlorous Acid? Yes. Could it be my collagen bonds are strong, increasing skin tissue tear thresholds, because I don't have a vitamin c deficiency. Yes
So everyone should be asking what is wrong with this picture?
Could it be that these are front organizations for huge profit centers?
Could that be why certain solutions One presents are not implemented?
Those images are very painful, as is the realization that we so often distract ourselves with trivial concerns.
Love, Kristin
The staple of the world’s diet needs to be Amaranth and Quinoa. We as a planet need to move away from the gluten heavy grains, especially those that have the nutrients removed.
Many people do not know that one of the war strategies during the Vietnam war was to make available to the North Vietnamese polished rice (nutrients have been removed). We knew that it would weaken them and make them lethargic.
A high carbohydrate diet (refined carbohydrates work the best) is also used to sedate entire populations, turning them into ignorant couch potatoes, easy to manage worker bees, munching potato chips and watching sitcoms, putting them in the alpha state so they can be easily programmed and subjected to disinformation.
The other benefit to the high carbohydrates, junk food diets is it allows the queen and king bees to transfer the workers wealth back to them, through the sale of drugs, medicine and other treatments based on the creation of disease.
A typical pill may cost 2 cents to make but can be sold for $1.00 or even more.
The pharmaceutical companies may talk about the high cost of getting a drug approved, but what they will not tell you is they created this environment to stifle competition and new startups which would require a lot of capital.
Another thing women should know, something I came across in my Meta research, is that refined carbohydrates and sugar stimulate yeast colonies to grow resulting in increased sales of treatments for yeast infections. So the promotion of a high carbohydrates diet and the supply of easily available cheap refined carbohydrates create a huge profit center.
The interesting part not known to doctors is that the yeast colonies produce a feel good chemical, that they reward the host with, when they feed the colonies sugar, creating an addiction.
Shekhar,
The images that you have presented here are difficult, but important to view. It is a reminder of how many suffer and that suffering happens on so many levels...even to the rich and "beautiful".
I have heard some say that those that are starving or in terrible pain have somehow reaped this fate via their karma. What I choose to believe is that these souls have consciously manifested into this worldly suffering so that those of us that have much material wealth can learn to see with spiritual eyes; we can learn to give and open our hearts. It is likely that these souls we see looking out at us from bodies barely able to sustain life are all Christ or Buddha or Krishna...they are all waiting for the rest of us to "see them" for what they are and take the next step. And when we take that next step, then maybe we can see our own Divinity.
The world is ready for change I think. It's time to step outside of me and mine and see our collective Spirit in all. Starvation and suffering may be our collective opportunity to evolve beyond this tribal fear that has become the bane of humanity. It's time to let go of seperation.
Peace,
Scott.
Hi Richard,
Interesting stuff!
I remember talking to a friend of mine that was practicing Chinese medicine. The way he expressed what you seem to voicing was that yin/yang qualities needed to be in balance at all times. Naturally occuring carbohydrates tended to increase the Yin qualities (feminine) that were receptive and more peaceful in nature and proteins tended to increase Yang qualities (masculine), more aggressive etc. Refined sugars threw out the natural balance of yin/yang and pushed one into lethargy (in Ayurveda this would be Tamas); too many proteins created hyper-aggressiveness(Rajas). The ideal was to balance the two and one would reach a sattvic state.
The design of our bodies is really quite amazing; we are physiologically programmed for famine/fast. In other words when food is plentiful our bodies want us to "load up" and store for times when food is gone. We are programmed to have attractions to foods that are highly caloric so that we can get the greatest "bang for the buck" when the inevitable famine happens (that's why we crave ice cream more then tofu). From the standpoint of survival this is really important. However in wealthy countries the "famine" never happens, but the "switch" to load up doesn't get turned off.
Advertisers understand this (at least on some level) and realize that highly caloric food sells...we are naturally attracted to this.
It's a strange world where one side of the world kills itself from overeating and the part is dying for lack of food.
Peace,
Scott.
Now if you are really smart, can you imagine what happens to a women when she kills off the yeast colonies with a drug, and loses her "fix". She will feel depressed.
Something else the doctors were ignorant about is that the use of antibiotics kills off the good and bad bacteria etc. The good bacteria keep the bad bacteria populations in check. They never told you that you need to replace these good bacteria. Mostly this is because of ignorance and that they just follow commands from above, if they don't follow the status quo they will have their license and revoked and lose their source of income, it is not a deliberate attempt by individual doctors to do anything wrong.
Well what our fine academics did not take into account is that the bad bacteria proliferate faster than the good ones, leading to more disease conditions. So by writing antibiotic prescriptions the medical industry is generating even greater revenues.
Certain bacteria (nano machinery) play crucial roles in the body’s biochemistry. When the machines are destroyed and cannot perform their functions, systems are impaired.
This same principle applies to the use of certain (but not all) biocides and antibacterials. We are creating a massive imbalance that will result in wide spread plagues and disease on the planet.
Which is simply nature’s way of eradicating humans that have become planetary pathogens.
It is important to note that the body will attempt to repair a damaged cell before it destroys it, or the cell destroys itself "Apoptosis".
This post is an attempt to repair damaged cells and systems before they are destroyed.
The planet was perfectly engineered and ignorance and greed (focus on profit) have destabilized it.
If it continues we will declare a global state of emergency and remove the planets current leadership and management.
You will be told various channels to tune to.
Which of course will come as a great suprise to those that don't believe that we exist. :)

Your right on target Scott, When large amounts of carbohydrates are eaten, the body secretes large amounts of the hormone insulin to lower the resulting high blood sugar. In addition to lowering blood sugar levels, insulin also clears most of the five amino acids that compete with tryptophan for a ride to the brain. The result is that tryptophan has the bus to itself, allowing plenty of tryptophan to reach the brain.
Normally the blood-brain barrier serves as a protective device to prevent toxins from entering the brain. But this protection comes at a price -- even friendly molecules, such as amino acids needed by the brain, are limited by this barrier.
When nutrients are allowed to cross the blood-brain barrier they must be ferried by specialized transport molecules, much as passengers being transported on a bus. This process creates a special bottleneck for serotonin. Serotonin itself cannot pass through the blood-brain barrier, while its precursor, tryptophan, must share its transport bus with five other amino acids -- leucine, isoleucine, valine, tyrosine and phenylalanine.
tyrosine and phenylalanine produce excitory neurotransmitters (masculine) as you pointed out.
But could you imagine teaching this to humans 200 years ago? Thats why certain principles that could be practiced and applied were taught in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine, until a more advanced understanding could be comprehended.
See one of the hold ups is the denial by most scientists that plants were engineered for the production of human specific chemicals. It was not as they would have you believe an accident.
Neurotransmitters are specialized biochemicals that nerve cells use to talk to each other. Serotonin is one of some ten major brain neurotransmitters.
Deficiencies of serotonin in the brain have been linked to a number of disparate conditions, including: depression (especially the agitated, anxious, irritable type), (1-6) anxiety, (7) suicide, (8) alcoholism, (9) violent behavior, (8) PMS, (10) obesity, (10,11) compulsive gambling, (12) insomnia, (13) carbohydrate craving, (10) SAD (seasonal affective disorder), (10) and migraine headaches. (14)
Serotonin nerve circuits promote feelings of well-being, calmness, personal security, relaxation, confidence and concentration. (15) Serotonin circuits also help counterbalance the tendency of two other major neurotransmitters in the brain -- dopamine and noradrenaline -- to encourage overarousal, fear, anger, tension, aggression, violence, obsessive-compulsive actions, overeating, anxiety and sleep disturbances. (15) Many people suffer from various degrees of brain serotonin deficiency, leading to a host of mental, emotional and behavioral problems. To understand why brain serotonin deficiency is becoming more common in modern society, it is necessary to look at how the brain makes serotonin.
Two more key points how Pharmaceutical companies work against the public good and genetic modification of plants or bacteria in a perfect system can be lethal.
In 1989, a large outbreak of a new, disabling, and in some cases deadly autoimmune illness called eosinophilia-myalgia syndrome (EMS) was traced to L-tryptophan. The bacterial culture used to synthesize tryptophan by a major Japanese manufacturer, Showa Denko KK, had recently been ***genetically engineered*** to increase tryptophan production; with the higher tryptophan concentration in the culture medium, the purification process had also been streamlined to reduce costs, and a purification step that used charcoal absorption to remove impurities had been omitted. This allowed another bacterial metabolite through the purification, resulting in the presence of an end-product contaminant responsible for the toxic effects.
What this means is an unnatural chemical structure was introduced to the body causing a major system malfunction.
The FDA was unable to establish with certainty that this was the sole cause of the outbreak. Tryptophan was banned from sale in the US, and other countries followed suit.
Though it is indisputable that Showa Denko KK did produce and sell a contaminated batch of L-tryptophan, there are some concerns [2] that the FDA's handling of this accident unfairly favoured the pharmaceutical industry and the new antidepressant Prozac if only because of its curiously fortuitous timing. The March 22, 1990 ban on public sale of L-tryptophan came only four days before the media announcement of Prozac on March 26, 1990 in Newsweek magazine [3]. Both L-tryptophan and Prozac affect serotonin in the brain, though in different ways, and were promising in the treatment of depression. At the time of the ban the FDA did not know, or did not indicate, that EMS was caused by a contaminated batch [4], and yet even when the contamination was discovered and the process fixed, the FDA maintained that L-tryptophan was unsafe. In February 2001 the FDA loosened the restrictions on marketing (though not on importation), but still expressed the following concern:
If you are a journalist and want to get famous, while helping the planet, investigate the correlation between patents being awarded, legislation and propaganda campaigns.

Dear Nimita,
Perhaps you'd like to replace the word "bulimia" with "anorexia" in your post #16, coz they mean quite the opposite. :)
Cheers!
Navin
Navin,
Bulimia is binge and purge eating, which essentially leads to starvation. Anorexia is self-starvation without the throwing up which leads to starvation. They are almost identical except for the process.
Scott.

You know this site keeps popping up all the time in search engines.
http://www.experiencefestival.com/ or click my name.
It's all about experience you know, a good one for everyOne.
Dear Scott,
Thanks for pointing this out.
Copy pasting from familydoctor.org:
Anorexia: Anorexia nervosa is an illness that usually occurs in teenage girls, but it can also occur in teenage boys, and adult women and men. People with anorexia are obsessed with being thin. They lose a lot of weight and are terrified of gaining weight. They believe they are fat even though they are very thin. Anorexia isn't just a problem with food or weight. It's an attempt to use food and weight to deal with emotional problems.
Bulimia: Bulimia nervosa is a bit different from anorexia because the person with bulimia doesn't avoid eating. Instead, he or she eats a large amount of food then gets rid of it quickly by vomiting or taking laxatives. This is commonly known as "binge and purge" behavior. Like anorexia, bulimia tends to affect girls and young women more than guys. Unlike anorexia, you can't always tell by looking whether a person has bulimia. In fact, someone with bulimia may appear average or even above average in weight.
What is the difference between anorexia and bulimia?
People with anorexia starve themselves, avoid high-calorie foods and exercise constantly. People with bulimia eat huge amounts of food, but they throw up soon after eating, or take laxatives or diuretics (water pills) to keep from gaining weight. People with bulimia don't usually lose as much weight as people with anorexia.
This means Nimita's use of the word "bulimia" in her post #16 was as correct as the word "anorexia". I stand corrected.
Cheers!
Navin
Richard, I agree with a lot of what you have written in the comments above.
10 to 15 years ago, when physicians who are interested in curing Autism started the research, they realised that, CASEIN in milk and milk products, GLUTEN in wheat and other grains caused terrible gastro-intestinal inflammation in these children. This inflammation makes these children very fussy. Inflammation also caused them to have either constipation or loose stools. The inflammation also caused them not to absorb nutrients from their food. These nutrients, especially, B6, mg, Zn, other trace elements are needed for synthesis of SEROTONIN, DOPAMINE, NOREPINEPHRINE. So these children can not learn, have no social skills, and are so fussy. I have a dozen kids on caseinfree and glutenfree diet and the improvement is remarkable.
Casein and Gluten are morphine like substances, that is why we crave carbs, and milk and milk products.
You are right about the yeast too. Most of these children have too much YEAST in their gut. It is as you pointed out due to eating too many carbs, the wrong carbs, and antibiotics prescribed by well meaning physicians, and also eating meat that has antibiotics.
In treating children with AUTISM, the first step is to put them on the right diet, second step is to eliminate toxic substances from their diet and environment, thirdly give them mega doses of B6 and mg, and cod liver oil, etc, fourthly start getting rid of the yeast from their gut.
I have to go back to work. It has been fun talking to you. Love and God bless.
Media Sensationalism: The Downward Spiral
Shekhar, you said "Why should the international press be so fascinated by this strange controversy..."
Simple, skinny models are 'sensational' while skinny starving people are not.
I'm going slightly at a tangent here...
Whatever happened to Media's responsibility? Or should we ask, is there any such thing at all?
Just go and switch on your TV for news. Right now. CNN, Fox, CNBC, you name it...What do you see?
Now, Let's rewind to July 12th and go all the way towards the end of August 2006. What did we see?
Splendid explosions, dramatic incursions of Israeli soldiers across Lebanon's border, action-packed fighter planes demolishing buildings, bridges and infrastructure, poignant stories of displaced people - foodless, homeless, grief-stricken, angry...and a whole range of emotions, and Anderson Cooper's endless tirade on what he was seeing around - apparently informing us of the situation. Good job Cooper! There are millions around the world watching this dramatic spectacle unfold in all its glory except that it's not scripted much in advance, like Cinema.
But wait, what the hell is happening in Lebanon right now? UN peacekeeping forces, Relief efforts, Humanitarian concerns...blah blah, who cares? Peace-what?
You can hardly find half hour worth of updates on Lebanon's war after-math. Has the media become so insensitive to the actual needs of humans that all they care to do is just thrust more and more drama into their viewers' lives? Now that, the sensational part of the war is over, why does the media have to care, they got their share of ratings. Before the Lebanon crisis, it was the Iraq war's initial stages, beautiful footage of precision bombings, showing everything they could get on camera. But during the Lebanon crisis, there was not even an inkling of the Iraq war because it had lost its glamour.
Does anyone ever question what's happening right now? Are we as citizens of the world getting up against the media and asking them what the situation is right now? Question them as to where their responsibility is? Isn't there a line to be drawn between sensationalism and actual truth? This more or less seems like selective truth.
Peace, Humanity, Aid efforts and other concepts like those don't have a 'cool' or 'sensational' value to them like war, guns, death and despair.
Maybe if we made 'poverty' and starvation to appear more in mainstream news it would do a little good.
Maybe it's time to make those elements more mainstream and accepted, and maybe then we can expect a world more tolerant and understanding.
Scott: To my way of thinking, and reckoning with the Lords of Karma, your post #21 is dead-on accurate as to why so many souls would agree to a group incarnation for such a dreaded experience (or a very "dead" experience of life in this world)--as always, much enjoy the greater perspectives you put forth, and with such sound and balanced reasoning--Thanks, Dave
Ref #21
Yes human beings like most mammals are opportunistic feeders and when the food is plentiful our instincts tell us shovel it on down, and then the body even has ways of storing what it does not need right away for another time, quite remarkable survival is, early on our evolution it is quite obvious that our ancestors would have not eaten a full meal every day, and also that in order for them to have food to eat they would have had to have looked for it or worked for it, which is excersise, burning calories.
In western culture today food is everywhere, and as you have said Scott, the bodies survival mechanism has not turned off!
I do not think that is the entire reason why there are lots of Fat people around though....
If you look at human behaviour a little more detailed one thing is very clear and that is to much of anything is no good for you sweetheart.
everything in moderation and in balance is the way...

Great post Shekhar!! This issue on banning skinny models has been in our papers. But, it must not just start with banning skinny models!!
I was very happy to see this implemented; it's been coming far too long--and at last, those in the power to make a difference, ARE!! About time!
Producers & Directors, must also do same, in the film industry. Young actress's like Nicole Richie are causing so much damage to their body; all starting with demands from executives, to look emanciated for the screen.
Karen Carpenter died of heart failure, due to anorexia...this was way back in the 70's--this is how LONG, emanciated models and actress's/actors were "demanded" to look like for their "boss."
I've heard some actress's have tape worms put in their stomach, to stay thin; I've read that they purge(bulimia) or just self-starve(anorexia) or often, most use both. I've also read, actress's and models will have thier back teeth pulled, to give their cheeks that sunk-in look!!
Who/what is putting such demands on women? Men! Why do men want women to look like sticks?
I find, the emanciating of models and actress's is a direct INSULT, to those starving to death.
Sure, some women are naturally thin, but it is clear, this is a health-pandemic!! I am happy, some big-wigs are finally waking up to this important issue!!
Women were born with shape and curves on purpose, so we do NOT look like dainty MEN!! Why do men, want women to look like dainty men?

Just as humankind shunned and overcame slavery in the 19th century and apartheid in the 20th century, we ought to shed and overcome the curse of extreme poverty in the 21st century.
This was the subject -- amongst others such as environmental degradation, sustainability, and holistic living -- at The Resurgence Conference in Oxford, where Dr Deepak Chopra spoke and my wife and I had the benefit of listening to him and other luminaries such as Dame Anita Roddick, Annie Lennox, David Whyte et al.
Within The Philanthropia, we have chosen to dedicate it to addressing climate chaos and radical poverty but also developing leadership in the younger generation so that the Mahatama Gandhis and Dr Martin Luther Kings can be encouraged to come out of their budding shells in the 21st century from amongst the younger generation.
If there is a redressal to the chaos which we call globalisation, it must lie in addressing complex global challenges, such as the one which you have pointed to.
Well done and more needs to be done! Thank you.
Warm well wishes
DK
