Gotham Chopra - November 07, 2006
So I voted today because it's my civic duty and all that and any time I get an opportunity to express any displeasure with Bush and his cronies I am all for it.
But the truth is I had no idea what I was doing at the polls today. Let's see I pretty much voted "yes" on every proposition. I mean how do you say no to a $50 tax that apparently is going to save children from certain death in the event of an earthquake? Can you possibly reject a measure that is going to clean up highways, expand lanes, and make California driving better.
And then there were the candidates themselves. I'd say that I was swayed by the following factors: democrats, gender, fatigue. Demorcrats because I guess I just sort of sway the way of liberal thinkers and when completely unaware of the candidates and what they stand for, that's just the way I go. Gender - what can I say? I just have more confidence in women. I think for the most part, they are smarter and more ethical. Fatigue - by the time you hit the ten minute mark in that little booth, I just started ticking off the first thing I saw.
To be honest, I was a bit embarassed. I'd say on about 90% of the ballot questions, I had no idea what I was voting for. I must have voted "yes" to keep a lot of the incumbant judges. A couple folks - I just didn't like their waspy names so I voted against them. Yup - that's the democracy at work, someone taking a bullet because the constituency just doesn't like their name.

They didn't let me vote.
(Dang I should have offered them that beer!!!!!)
Nothing is going to change people: NOTHING.
'We' shall stay the course, and, you know, have that 'limited government,' and no judicial activism (let the big players continue making money at no fault costs), the 'war on terror' shall proceed, o yeah, after all, there is too much money there and we would never want any 'extremists' holding us hostage with all of that oil as 'pres' Bush just said the other day (Oh, but this was never about the oil now was it, umm, Israel's safety, or, democracy and freedom, or, . . ., whatever, my short attention span has already forgotten).
So, you can continue to think you are 'participating' in a democracy, but, in truth, Rockefeller and Co. owns your ass . . .
So please . . .
Democracy!?! You people would not know what a democracy is; plugging for a democrat or republican--whoo-hoo, by golly the rich man let me vote for one of his candidates . . .
I mean, who knows, maybe I can even be independent enough to vote for a Friedman or Lieberman--boy I am free now!!!!
And ya, I'll vote for the local sheriff, who is supported by the police offers guild, well like duh, is like that a no-brainer, somebody unopposed is running for sheriff, and the cops support him . .
harumph, go figure . . .
anyhoo . . .
I am glad you people are free now, ready to go drink a beer?
Peace
Well, that's better than not voting at all..a little bit.
I think the whole nation should vote by mail. And you should get a ballot if you have a valid state ID or passport. Motor voter is the best!
Mail-in is great because:
1. you take as much time as you want. If you want to vote on three races, and then a week later vote on three more, hey go for it!
2. If you don't know who the candidates are, or can't read/don't trust the wording of an intiaitive, you can, again AT YOUR LEISURE (let's take the stress out of voting, folks!) google up articles, bios, etc to get yourself as informed as you feel you need to be before voting on anything.
3. You can drink a beer, watch TV and have your music playing while you lounge in your slippers at home - all at the same time you're voting. Doing your patriotic duty just got a LOT easier!
So Gotham, you s'posed to be the party animal around here...you shoulda had this one down, Bro.
hmm... remind me if i ever run for anything to change my name to something awesome..
Hey Steve my brother,
I am not going to post what I had kinda typed up about Telushkin, I see 'his' angle (and naturally, being a Christian, I am totally opposed to such beliefs; you know, the Jesus 'thing,' the sin 'thing,' the 'Noahide Law' being imposed upon me 'thing,' the 'noble lies,' the 'justified' murders, etc.), yet tis all good; and I am going to try reading a couple of earlier works of his (one even with Prager, naturally).
But, at his point, I think it all comes down to when shall all of the Jewsih people return home and rebuild the Temple.
Actually I think this is the last thing certain people want to see happen, b/c some people are making way too much money playing us; there is an elect alright, but I do not think it has much to do with holiness, rather, it is all about who is the banker.
We shall keep on being played with the hopes of a Messiah, while some people keep on making some 'good' money . . .
Anyway brother, always, peace to you friend.

Dr. Chopra writes, "Rather than seeing addicts as simply weak or even criminal human beings, I choose to see them as people who are responding self-destructively, but still quite understandably, to the spiritual vacuum that exists amid our material abundance" (8-9).
And then I find my Vata-Pitta self reading the chapter called "Joy--The Real Answer"; and Dr. Chopra asks these questions:
2) "Did you start your day with nurturing activities that strengthened you in body and in spirit?"
3) "Did you find real pleasure in your work?"
5) "Were you able to experience nature today with awareness and appreciation?"
6) “Did you find time for enjoyable activities or exercise?"
8) "Did you laugh with real pleasure?"
10) "Did you take your meals in pleasant surroundings, with company you enjoyed?"
11) "Did you show love today to friends and family members?"
12) "Did you freely and joyfully receive their love in return?"
Overcoming Addictions: the spiritual solution (pgs. 123-28).
Uh-o. I am in serious trouble here! I seriously believe that if I could find a meaningful way to make money, I would be alright. You know, a job with a sense of productive purpose, no not a sense of, but, WITH a productive purpose. But instead, since nobody wants to give me a job, I will just, umm, well, yeah; and I know like this I will never get back to my Linda in Seattle.
None of these organizations or businesses around here are going to give a 'bad man' like me a job where I could try to help my people, and so I seriously just feel without purpose in life any more. I am not crying about this; I just completely loathe my living conditions, lack of opportunity, and my self-image has deteriorated to the lowest I think it has ever been in my life.
There is no raison d'etre for me. Oh well, any more nights like last night and I will be back in prison soon enough anyway . . .
No more burgs, I am going after 'the man' (Destroyer of federal property I am!). Like the fed's or even states', have any right owning vast amounts of land, or of erecting their silly little, or big rather, monuments with our money; 'legally' barring me from the very land that constitutes my body (Please note; my actions shall never endanger or cause physical harm to any of our fellow human beings!). . .
I just want a job and to be with Linda!
O well . . .
अग्नि is not only the protector but is also the destroyer!
Peace
Dear Craig, at times I want to run over there, embrace you; and make things right for you. At other times, I want to run over there, bop you on the side of the head; and speech you out!
All I know is, it is deeply troubling, to read your darkness at times. It does not matter Craig, in the big scheme of things; if you have a job, money, or Linda. It really, really--does not matter.
In the big scheme of things Craig, what matters, is how you "see yourself" and how you "respond" to life's ups and downs.
I don't like to read you talking about destroying things. I realize, you only want to destroy your past, addictions patterns and predicaments resulting from them; in such thoughts as those.
Craig..I tell you this, as a fellow human being; whom has a younger brother, just like you. Exactly like you. Bitter, angry, frustrated, to the point of helplessness. To the point, his volatile presence is no longer welcome in my life, this is how destructive he is. But, he was like this as a young child too, so the booze/pills only escalated the impact, and the perfection of manipulation he aquired.
Craig, it is not the governments "fault" or anyone else's fault for that matter, for your problems. Alienating yourself from everything; only leaves you standing as a lone wolf...(gentle smiles.)
My brother plays that blame-game too; and it's rather wearing thin. How do we get you, and my brother to see the truth about themselves?
Craig.. pictures yourself as this! You are a director/producer of a blockbuster movie! You are making your life-story.
Tell it, like it is--call it: To Hell and Back
Then, Craig; decide how you want the movie of your life, to conclude. What, will be the climax, what is the meaning/message; you wanted to emmulate?
Craig, do you want the story of your life, to end as a man, surrendered; or as a man, whom has been "To Hell and Back?"
Craig, only YOU--can decide.
My opin is this: learn to love yourself again Craig. IF you draw, write, build, do this again; these are your guides to your Self.
How do you want your story to end Craig?
Hero? or Surrendered?
I told my bro the same thing when I walked away from him over a year ago Craig; I had to, his violence, spilled onto a death threat on my son; because my son told him.. basically what I tell you... how do you want your story to end?
Heroic-by overcoming your past?
Surrendered-to self-hate?
Paint the canvas of your life Craig; it would make for such a great movie; myself personally, as I"ve come to read you on this blog; I see you more heroicly inclined to take the bull by the horns, and make the climax of your life; one of heroic proportion!!
Love, is ours to own, through "Self" but, we must first know our own self-love and self-forgiveness; to hold it...and transform, and transcend, above and beyond our limits.
AS a gesture of encouragement Craig; you write the book/movie; I will design for you, a cover that will emmulate your success in winning the battle: "To Hell and Back!"
with loving kindness,
North
Dear Craig,
I am completely with what North has written hereabove.
It is the most important thing i guess for everybody who thinks he/she lost it, to find back their self-esteem, no matter what happened.
What North suggests is very good and i am looking forward to your book that will not only help you but also others that wrestle with some sort of addiction. And with her cover on it and that title your will certainly attract attention :).
Together with my doctor and Deepak´s book: "Overcoming addictions" in which he also speaks about the body types, i managed to stop smoking, now already more than 6 years ago.
What helped me the most was a simple meditation, also mentioned in this book: a concentrated but not attaching attention to the process of your breathing, in short, an observing attitude towards your breathing. Breathing, Deepak says is the link between the biological and spiritual apect of our being. This breathing meditation is a powerful instrument to unite those two aspects in the totality of existence.
I practiced this breathing especially when i felt the urgent need of smoking a cigarette and after a few minutes the need vanished by itself.
I discovered that breathing quietly in this way helps with a lot of other things too. It automatically makes you feel more relaxed after a while.
Anyway i just wanted to give North and you some backup.
If you have a computer and you want to download it, i have made a Labyrinth of Peace, based on some of Deepak´s books and yet very much my own understanding of some truths too:

Please read the Dear User.txt first on how to safe the Peacelabyrinth.zip file to your harddisk and how to use it.
Peace, Mieke
Yeah, my bad North.
Been letting that 'woe is me' stuff just rule me for awhile now: my bad, my bad. I gotta learn not to press that 'submit' button. I have read your stuff about your brother North, and I have lost some very very special people in this life who had to do the same thing you had to do; that being to just totally put them out of your life.
I appreciate your words, as I do your's too Mieke, and I would be honored to have you design the cover of my book North.
Wherefore hast gone the willingness to break this endless karmic cycle that renders me as a snake with it's tail in it's mouth? Where est my detached desire for change, for liberation . . .
Yeah . . .
Anyway, sorry for hijacking your thread Gotham. Sorry. Thanks North and Mieke.
Peace
Yo Craigi,
How are you doing? the girls are giving you a hug, I read, I'm gonna give you mine, too,
just got myself also 'overcoming addictions', just out of boredom, it a Karma thing, and a third The Path to Love, I have a habit to give great books, to people I love who don't read them, let alone use them..;)
anyhow,
Here's my magic formula, I've seen rockbottom,
so many times, it's a joke, at one point, you just laugh.. at yourself..,
and..
Snap out of it! get over it! think outside the box!
or like in Rocky 3; when you get your butt kicked, real bad,
say, to God: 'You ain't so bad!, you ain't so bad!, you ain't nothin'!
C'mon, champ!, hit me in the face! My mom hits harder than you!
;)
workes like magic for me, but it's a conditioning thing..
Got it?
People in Poland, work for 650 bucks a month,
are abused, addicted, overstressed, tyraned over,
and so on, and poverty of all kinds,
anyhow,
be happy for, just for the..
..
Anyhow,
Hugs and kisses, I have a Polish princess to charm,
Love, Passion,
But before, I get drunk, in the bar,
hey, charming princesses is a stresfull..;)
here's an Athony Robbins approach,
you take a blank piece of paper,
and you don't stop writing untill you have at least 100 solutions! to 1 problem,
on your desk,
Dare you..
With Love, Passion
HI Craig, didn't mean to preach the obvious; and please know, I was only trying to lighten your burden; by giving you some clarity.
In my opinion, you are not lost; you are just not good at organizing your life. I ditto Marek & Mieke; write!!
Spend less time online,or doing what harms you; and write Craig; in the case of being a director/producer; the stage is yours "as a master" planner.
Destiny and fate are perhaps only a small faceted inconvenience(wink) which we all know too; can be overcome.
Write notes on this and that. Make a different pile for examples of things, which changed you, which you fell trapped into, what made you fight back, and write this book; whatever is of learning value, to the reader/viewer.. go far back. Build a story, at the beginning. Decide if you want it fictionary or non fictionary? Once you have a few piles of A's through to Z's--you build the chapters from them... as they'll "naturally" fall into place. Mark them by year and event; then integrate?
---
Dear Marek, I have polish friends here in town, that came here when I were in grade four. They thought they were in a rich land, when they came here; in comparison to where they came from in the 60's. Widowed single Mom, 3 kids. Maria/Alexandria/John. Maria and I are still good friends, and I've learned all about the poverty of poland; another "ignored by the world" impoverished country!! Maria has word on relatives she's not seen since the 70's-80's--and she's shocked how poor they are there since the second world war! : ( It shocks me too.

North
I believe this election was a prefect example of why the Founders wanted the vote to go only to educated individuals who were land owners.
Not to mention this blog post by Gotham Chopra, I just watched a TV interview in PA. The individual said they voted against the incumbent for the Federal Senate because he was upset over the state sales tax. This dumb shi* has the power to vote and couldn't find his butt in the dark with both hands. He was not alone. Interview after interview showed the average citizen has no idea how our government works.
90% of those interviewed could name all 3 of the 3 Stooges but they could not name the 3 branches of government.
America is a nation of fools and we get what we deserve.

O Marek and North; pillars of strength you two are . . .

Poverty in Poland, one thing,
Corruption and the mob another,
Wodka 'therapy' the most frequently..
