Say Al runs?

Mallika Chopra - February 03, 2007

Just to add to Gotham's predicament on the "clean cut black man" or "that woman", what happens if the Nobel Peace Prize nominee/Oscar contender, decides to run?

(PS Sorry for my lack of blogging lately. I am adjusting back to LA after 3 weeks in India. Jet lag with two little kids is a drag. Promise to be back in full force soon!)

Dear Mallika

Welcome back!

Having met Al Gore on many occasions, and knowing how many admirers he has gathered across the world, including His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, that would be marvellous. However, what are the hurdles? I seem to remember he mentioned a few... are you and Deepak going to persuade him!

With love

Hello Mallika and Everyone,

Al who? Just kidding. I say wonderful the more the funner!(haha)

Seriously, I do not think Al would have a chance this time around, but I could be wrong. It is so early, anything can happen to change course so I would not rule anyone out.

have a great day all, ruth

Dear Mallika

If he ran, he'd have my vote. Welcome back home.

love, Heath

The American justice Dept. have recently approved the power of yoga and meditation vide a recent judgement in the American court."Man Who Slapped Wife Sentenced to Yoga, It's Anger Management, Says Judge." First there was house arrest. Now there's yoga. A judge ordered a man convicted of slapping his wife to take a yoga class as part of his one-year probation. "It's part of anger management," County Criminal Court at Law Judge Larry Standley said of the ancient Hindu philosophy of exercise and well-being. "For people who are into it, it really calms them down. " Standley, a former prosecutor, said the case of James Lee Cross was unique. Cross, a 53-year-old car salesman from Tomball, explained that his wife was struggling with a substance abuse problem and that he struck her on New Year's Eve during an argument about her drinking. "He was trying to get a hold of her because she has a problem," Standley said after the court hearing. "I thought this would help him realize that he only has control over himself." The sentence came as a surprise to Cross, who was told to enroll in a class and report back to Standley on his progress. "I'm not very familiar with it," Cross said of yoga. "From what I understand, it may help in a couple ways, not only as far as mentally settling, but maybe a little weight loss." Darla Magee, an instructor at Yoga Body Houston in River Oaks, said she would recommend that Cross take a basic yoga class emphasizing breathing and including a variety of postures -- forward bends, back bends and twists. "Yoga can help us to get rid of many emotional issues we might have," she said. "It's a spiritual cleanse." Prosecutor Lincoln Goodwin agreed to a sentence of probation without jail time because Cross had no significant criminal history http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/metropolitan/2365341.
Yoga which is one of the greatest Indian co tribution to the world has got vast potential in all fields. In Tihar jail India Yoga is experimented among the inamtes and found successful. Their criminal mentality is changed.

Excellant.

Hillary does not want Al to run, I'm sure he is pretty scared of the Clintons, and his time has come and gone. He would have a much greater impact as an independent Oscar winner than become president and deal with all this nasty Iraq business, which would take away from saving the spotted owl.

So enjoy the spotlight Al baby, you will have to share the spotlight with Mrs. David, but you are used to sharing the spotlight, so no worries.

Steve

Dear Steve:

Consider the possibility that efforts to save the spotted owl by saving enough trees to allow the planet to breath might, just might, in the process save a few spotted butts.

touche or shall I say tushi.

btw, trees can and are being planted.

Rudy and the Republican Nomination

Re: Rudy and the Republican Nomination

Over the last month or two there has been a good deal of public opinion polling on the 2008 Republican primary race. I thought it would be helpful to take a step back and take a closer look at how voters – particularly Republican primary voters – feel about Rudy Giuliani and why we think we are well-positioned heading in to the primary season.

Americans Have a Highly Favorable Opinion of Mayor Giuliani Entering the 2008 primary season, Rudy Giuliani is uniquely positioned among potential Republican candidates because of his extremely high favorability ratings. Recent public opinion polling shows Mayor Giuliani with 61% approval among adults across the country – according to the ABC News/Washington Post poll (Jan. 16-19, 2007). The well respected, bipartisan Battleground Poll (Jan 8-11, 2007) shows the Mayor with 65% favorability among likely voters. More importantly, Mayor Giuliani shows an 81% favorable rating among Republicans and only 10% with an unfavorable opinion.

According to the Battleground poll, Mayor Giuliani also has surprisingly high favorability ratings beyond the base:

70% of independents are favorable,
70% of 35-44 year olds,
74% of married women,
73% of households married with children,
52% of minority voters
The Mayor also enjoys strong approval among white evangelical Christians (76%) and self-described conservative Republicans (82%).
In an even more recent poll, Gallup (Jan. 25-28, 2007) finds Mayor Giuliani also leads among Republicans on 7 of 10 key issues including terrorism, the economy, healthcare and fighting crime. He also leads on 11 of 15 key candidate attributes – including “better understands the problems faced by ordinary Americans”, “would manage government more effectively” and what I believe to be the single most important factor – “is the stronger leader.”

In sum, while we fully expect these polls to tighten in the months and weeks to come, Republican voters genuinely know and like Rudy Giuliani.

The Mayor Performs Well in Opinion Polls
The Mayor’s exceptionally strong approval ratings also translate in to an advantage on Republican primary ballot tests. In 11 of 13 ballot tests in respected national public opinion polls [Fox News, Newsweek, Time Gallup, CNN, NBC/Wall Street Journal, ABC/Washington Post] since last November, Mayor Giuliani has a lead – in fact, his lead is on average, more than 5-points over the next closest candidate. And his ballot strength began to trend upward after the 2006 midterm elections.

Mayor Giuliani Leads in Key 2008 Primary States
Mayor Giuliani also leads in a series of other states that will likely prove critical in the 2008 Republican primary:

State Mayor Giuliani Closest Competitor Source

California 33% 19% (Gingrich) ARG - Jan. 11-17
Florida 30% 16% (Gingrich) ARG - Jan. 4-9
Illinois 33% 24% (McCain) ARG - Jan. 11-14
Michigan 34% 24% (McCain) ARG - Jan. 4-7
Nevada 31% 25% (McCain) ARG - Dec. 19-23, ‘06
New Jersey 39% 21% (McCain) Quinnipiac – Jan. 16-22
North Carolina 34% 26% (McCain) ARG - Jan. 11-15
Ohio 30% 22% (McCain) Quinnipiac - Jan. 23-28
Pennsylvania 35% 25% (McCain) ARG Jan. 4-8
Texas 28% 26% (McCain) Baselice Jan. 17-21

Conclusion

Recent polling continues to suggest Mayor Giuliani is very well positioned within the party – particularly when compared to other potential Republican candidates – to win the nomination.

Mayor Giuliani’s favorable public opinion stems not only from his extraordinary leadership in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks and in the uncertainty that followed, but also from a remarkably strong record of accomplishments in fighting crime and turning around New York City’s economy in the 1990’s.

Americans are anxious for fresh Republican leadership on a range of issues. Our voters are drawn to the leadership strength of a candidate during an election. Therefore, as we move forward with exploring a run for President and as we continue to share the Mayor’s story of strong leadership and Reagan-like optimism and vision, we hope to see continued growth in our foundation of support.

After finally watching An Inconvenient Truth (yes I waited until I could see it free on the internet - how lazy is that?), I was impressed by the fact that Al seems to be a deep thinker.

While his issue (climate change) is being discussed in other IB threads, his movie also shows a lot about Al Gore himself. It shows how he thinks. It shows how he prefers to work when he's able to do things his own way.

He is, no doubt, the person with the greatest "rock star" status of any potential candidate. His likeability would be 'off the chart' (to use a phrase he uses a lot in his movie).

He'd win.

But Al Gore, it occurs to me is not asking himself the question "Could I be president of the USA?" In a sense, he has already proved that he can.

Al Gore is asking, "What is the best way to accomplish my life's work?"

It's a totally different question, and, at least for now, it seems like "by being president" is an answer he's decided is not the best answer to that question.

I found particularly revealing a phrase he used in the movie. It was not one of the movie's money quotes, nor was it a major theme of the movie.

Instead it was just part of his narration during one of the scenes that showed him walking through an airport.

He said "I used to be a politician."

I think that's his truth at this time.

Al's thinking about how to wake people up, how to bring them to the point of working together to help ourselves deal with climate change, and beyond that to create a peaceful sustainable planetary future.

You could make a very strong case that running for President, even if he won, would be a distraction from, not a fulfillment of, his life's work.

And the other side, the Imperialists, would stop at practically nothing to derail him, which is a danger not only to him, but to his family. Remember, the Imperialists, with control of the CIA, the Military, and the propaganda machine, have specialized in targeted assassinations, coup d'etats, and disruption of countries' economies, all of which they have arguably practiced also in our own country.

Al could spend his entire Presidency just protecting himself and fighting for his political survival. The strain on his family would be permanently emotionally scarring, and his life's work may be slowed down while he's distracted by political battles.

There is so much that needs changing in this country, and it's not just consumer habits. Governmental habits that we have becomes addicted to (such as dependence on the military-industrial complex, vital resources from foreign countries, a wage-driven economy in which whoever can pay the lowest wages to workers wins on Wall Street, and other crippling habits and attitudes) have to be changed, and the public has to be educated.

See www.truthout.org/docs_2006/013107H.shtml for a deeper discussion of the USA’s ills related to imperialism.

The public must be educated what the real issues are, and given realistic solutions, and massive re-training has to happen.

So far, the mainstream media has not shown any predisposition to help. Instead they want to add to the arrogance, bigotry, and hubris of imperialism. In place of real dialogue, for example, we are fed the anti-Muslim, xenophobic diet of Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and others.

The press has shown little interest in answering the calls of our times.

So Al might have decided that by working exclusively on the issue that he has actual expertise on, he can most effectively address the issue of educating the public.

"I used to be a politician."

Let's see if that remains his viewpoint.

You know Yogi, I just want to call you comrade when you use terms like "imperialists".

Oh well, everyone has to fight the good fight, which turned from the color red to green.

Cheers,

Steve

Yeah, I was reluctant to use that term for a long time. But the current administration is so blatant about it, it's pretty much unavoidable.

I could have gotten behind a conservative administration, which probably seems like a funny thing for me to say.

But traditional conservatism includes things like economic self-sufficiency, fiscal conservatism, and a reluctance to involve ourselves in foreign wars, all of which are ideas I support.

Unfortunately, the new meaning of the word "conservative" has been twisted around to where it is indistinguishable from very radical positions, xenophobia, racism, pushing the federal government to bankruptcy, torture and the policy of starting wars whenever the opportunity exists.

Non of those platforms are actually conservative platforms, but they are NeoCon platforms.

Give me a viable true conservative and I'd happily vote for them over, say, Hillary. But the current crop of Bushco idiots is simply not to my liking at all.

Seems to me the labels of Democrat and Republican are nothing more than that, just labels. I'm red .....I'm blue.
So far it's one big dysfunctional dance. With comentary from Kieth Oberman. Sometimes entertaining sometimes powerful.

I so enjoy the news or what ever you call it. So funny to go back and watch the news from the movie "Robo Cop".

What we need are leaders who are not bound by government and a people willing to tell those leaders how they feel, and leaders who will listen.

Leaders are first servants, not elitist. This is not new wisdom just forgotten in the smoke screens of beurocracy.

When you really don't care who wins the superbowl you can enjoy the whole game.

A "glowing" "unpaid commercial" for Al Gore>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Gore resists push for '08 run
By Christina Bellantoni
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
February 5, 2007

http://www.washtimes.com/national/20070205-124939-2725r.htm

By his buddies at the Washinton Slimes:

Coincidentally I was listening to Dr. Bill Wattenburg at the same time I was searching the net for stories, and came up with this?

Dr. Bill doesn't believe any of this crap in any of the findings on this so-called Globel Warming scare, which as I have mentioned before is just a conpiracy to bring down the economy of the United States.

Al Gore couldn't "kill" the US, missing out on the Presidency, which I believe to be his plan had he been successful, so he is trying to do it through the back door on these trumped up charges of pollution, which Gore and Clinton took a great part in producing by not implementing more Nuclear power into the system. Kind of like an ace in the hole, can't bring down the US one way, then lay plans for a "back up" and what better way than to hollar "get rid of your cars and trucks, shut down the polluting industies, while they built even more coal fired hydro plants to make sure there is even more pollution than Gore and Clinton produced before!

You will notice in the article that Gore had his meeting "on the same day" as that phoney conference in Europe, where all those left wing paid hacks that call themselves scientists" were pointing their fingers at the US for being a major pollutor? No mention of the monstrosity of pollution coming out of China or India, but wasn't it "convenient" (coincidental) to have the meeting on the same day? puke;

And how Gore spoke in a "calm patient voice"? GEEZE they really think we are gullible and ignorant enough that we don't know by now that Al Gore should get an Oscar alright, but not for that BS of a farce Documentary he produced (I imagine all those hundreds of millions of dollars he has made from his newly acquired Google shares since he left office would serve to take the financial "worries" off his mind?) but for his ability to ACT and snivel in front of an audience that he tries to hymotise, and he should be good at it, after all he is a POLIICION, who if they were not in politics, would be in HOLLYWEIRD, acting out there fantasies there!

Utterly amazing how many "schools" in the US are showing this Documented myth, and I read ALL of the schools in Scotland and possibly England are showing it, whether the parents like it or not? NOW THATS POWER! Most of the academics are surely on the side of Gore for that to happen....."International Liberalism here I
come"!

Acting is a more important part of being a politicion than being a politicion, they have to lie convincingly why they are not spending our money the way they said they would, and that takes ACTING! They take lessons on how to ACT and WHAT and HOW to say, so they become really professional at it! Speach lessons, anything they can do to help them BS their way into our wallets and hymotise us into giving them our vote!

Here is an except from the article, it doesn't take an Einstein to find the BS and the fluff the Slimes attach to it!

THE REST OF THE ARTICLE IS ABOVE IN THE LINK!

This is sickening and displays once again what a major SUCK HOLE and BROWN NOSER-PHONEY he is!... Says ANYTHING for the occasion!

Exactly Clintonesque!

Mr. Gore's talk was held the same day the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released a summary of a forthcoming report authored by scientists from more than 100 countries predicting the earth's temperature will rise by 2 to 11 degrees by 2100.

He told the leaders that they are on the forefront of innovation and said business will profit from technology's efforts to stop climate change or slow its effects.

He explored the valley's evolution from being the birthplace of electronics and the computer to the Internet and biotechnology.

"It's abundantly obvious that clean tech, green tech ventures ... will be a new pathway that attracts a lot more energy and time and investment," he said.

Mr. Gore, a member of Apple Computer's board of directors and an adviser to Google, seemed comfortable in the valley, which he called his "second home."

He spoke in a calm, patient voice, telling self-deprecating jokes and chatting about laws of thermodynamics in between jabs at the Bush administration.

God bless the troops;

Steve

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1779316/posts

More and more Gore is shown to be an opportunisic egomaniacal Communist that is mandated to kill the Constitution of the United States by bringing it down to third world levels, one way or the "other"!

I say give him the "Napoleon treatment" and BANISH him to San Clemente Island in a TENT, to be the head GOAT herder to the thousands of wild goats that live there! And don't let him near
Avalon, he'll terrorize the village!

God bless the troops;

Hi Mallika,

If his heart was in it I think Al would be a great choice. But I really want Barack to run...

Love, Kristin

Alright now...here we go...c'mon....one big collective Gorgasm!!

Algore...is a waste of oxygen! He won't run, the Clinton's will kill him, figuratively speaking! And besides that...he's a proven loser!

Algore, Beta Male...in contrast to Hilary the Alpha female! There are some similarities, though! They're both becoming more shrill and less lifelike, and they both seem to be just a little bit unhinged!

But, If you wanna make repubs happy, run him!! It's easy to run against a complete loon!

norm

PS.... I love how Algore, environmentalist extraordinaire...jets around the globe telling us to change our lifestyles! He's responsible for more pollution in 3 weeks than I'll create in a lifetime, cow flatulence notwithstanding! If he wants to reach broad numbers of people, and be true to his supposed convictions, he should sit at home and do it via internet...I mean after all, he invented the thing, he should use it!!

Mallika--I just caught the end of The View.

Topic: mandatory injections-for female babies, to thwart cervical cancer?

A former politician, now a lobbyist, wants to make this drug mandatory.

Oh, guess what? He has shares in the drug, he's trying to make mandatory.

FLASH BACK to the 60's: when thalidimide was given to pregnant women, to help ease: morning sickness, and to help risk pregnancy women, keep their term pregnancy as long as possible.

WHAT HAPPENED?: thousands and thousands of deformed children were born. It took a couple generations; but, still today, children are being born, from the children born OF this drug.. 40 years ago!!

Mallika--what will YOU do, as a mother of two toddler-girls; should this experimental drug, which a politician/lobbyist with shares in the drug--is "pushing"(pun intended) onto the baby-girls of America??

with loving kindnes... it makes me feel "sick" to learn, men in america; would "mutuate" generations of babies.. just to make money! : (

North

"Alright now...here we go...c'mon....one big collective Gorgasm!!"...says the intellectual wizzard bobby hellen...aka michael...baby... we can always count on this Einstein for wisdom...whoa! the flabs continues howlin' about "cow flatulence" in expressin' his uncontrollable, passionate love for his "beta" male ...whoa... deepak singh... u wannabe american...are u payin' attention? eek!

Baby D!

You go boy! I thought you might come out of the woodwork on that one!

Hope all is well on the California rancho!

By the way, it doesn't bother me, the Bob Hellen and Michael references...but truthfully they aren't me! They really may be smart and skinny! whoa dude!

Go ask your mamma to warm your bottle now, you hear? you'll feel better!

norm

chubs..just like bushman or rushman...u ain't foolin' no one...yeah!

whoahahahahahahaha!

Good to see the NY Sun with a front page inset flogging Mark Steins column " Globel warming? what Globel warming"? Gorry Gore must be livid when he sees that on the front page of a respected New York newspaper!

steve

How about Savage for president?

Think it over, it would sure shake up the election, and though he doesn't have the "proverbial"?? in winning, the controvery he would create would sure make the front runner of the Conservatives HONEST!

It is hard to say at this time which party he would draw from, depending on what his planks are, and being that he was originally a Liberal, and now proclaiming to be an Independent)- onservative, who knows?

Perot got 19% of the vote which he took from Bush 41 if Savage (Weiner???? what name will he use?) can sift off some Librano$ votes it could be the deal breaker and give the Conservative Candidate the Presidency?

About time we got some "life" into the elections, and quit the FLUFF!

YOUR OPINIONS???

I haven't heard Savage yet today, will catch is rerun, did he talk about it on his show???

Levin more inspiring on WMAL and then Chris Plante gives me an hour of very good commentary. Savage at 7pm pt on KRLA!

Chris Plante is another of the uderrated!

I can't help remark, as a Canadian, how voters can committ to a Canadidate for either party when all the Candidates have not committed
yet, and most of them that have, who knows at this time who they are?

I suspect that their will be much "egg" on the faces of too many of the voters after it is all over! One would think the election is THIS FALL?

God bless the troops:
