The clean cut black guy or that woman

Gotham Chopra - February 02, 2007

I'm torn.

You see - I'm a pretty powerful guy amongst struggling writers, producers, film-makers, and other creatives in Los Angeles looking to make their $50 relevant and meaningful in the 2008 presidential campaign. As such, I am being approached to lend my support to both the 2008 presidential campaigns of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

Hillary

1) How cool would it be to have a woman running the country?

2) How cool would it be to have Buffalo Bill as "First Guy?" Has there EVER been a man more fit for the role?

3) I kinda know the Clintons - meaning if they ever saw me at a fundraiser, they would greet me warmly and ask how my family was (by name no less).

4) I think Hillary is REALLY smart, very ambitious, and is as sharp a politician as they come.

5) Conservatives are intimidated by Hillary CLINTON.

Barack

1) How cool would it be to have a black guy running the country?

2) How cool would it be to have a black guy running the counrty?

3) Obama opposed the war from day 1 and has NEVER wavered.

4) Obama is just plain inspiring. He's a man of principle that says what he believes and (so far) backs it up.

5) Obama making it far in the campaign means changing the dialogue and the very landscape of American politics. Win or lose, more Obama means more change.

The BIGGEST argument I hear against getting behind Obama is "he can't win." The reasons for this, people profess, are many. He's black. He's got a muslim name. He's too inexperienced. He's not politically savvy. He's too young and now is not his time, etc. Part of me, however, believe this "he can't win" thing becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy in the sense that the more powerful people like me (I speak with irony) that start saying that, the more of a reality it becomes...

Here's the thing, BEFORE Obama, I was an unabashed Hillary fan. I still am - sort of. I like her. I want to support her. I increasingly believe she could be president and what a message that would send the rest of the world - the male dominated, overtly masculine Islamic world that would have to deal with Hillary and of course the FIRST GUY. This is a future of hope. I dig it.

But then there's that clean cut, articulate, handsome black guy (please get the reference and don't think I am racist...)

Running mates, possibly?

Oh God...what a choice.....

When I was in the eighth grade, I had a teacher who was sort of eccentric...when he wanted to get under our skin, he would stand at the front of the room and drag his nails across the blackboard...sounded for the world just like a Hilary speech!! She exudes so much warmth! And so intelligent...why...why...when she was copresident...she...she....oh yeah...she came up with a health care proposal so magnificent that she handed the congress to the Republicans...she's great...hope she wins the nomination...you know...so you can go to fund raisers, and have her ask you about the family!

As for Obama...does the word welter weight come to mind? All style no substance? His greatest fear? Having a reporter write about the size of his ears! That is some kind of thick skinned, do what's right kind of leader y'all have there!! But at least.. as Joe Biden says...Obama is clean!! He must be an anomaly....

If those two are your best shots....well...hmmmm, think even Newt might have a chance!!!

norm

So Gotham,

Which Hillary do you like, the go it alone or never alone? Apparently she knew what everybody else did at the time and acted on the current intellegence. Of course everybody is brilliant after the fact. Hillary you go to the head of the class and besides Gotham thinks you are cool, so there!

From Cal Thomas:

Last weekend in Des Moines, Sen. Clinton attempted to explain her 2002 vote in favor of a Senate resolution "to Authorize the Use of United States Armed Forces Against Iraq" (S.J. Res. 45): "I said that we should not go to war unless we have allies. So (President Bush) took the authority that I and others gave him and he misused it, and I regret that deeply. And if we had known then what we know now, there never would have been a vote and I never would have voted to give this president that authority."

Speaking to the left wing, anti-war organization, Code Pink, on March 7, 2003, which can be found on YouTube, Sen. Clinton tried to justify her pro-war vote: "There is a very easy way to prevent anyone from being put into harm's way, that is for Saddam Hussein to disarm. And I have absolutely no belief that he will. I have to say that this is something I've followed for more than a decade. If he were serious about disarming, he would have been much more forthcoming. Š I ended up voting for the resolution after carefully reviewing the information, intelligence that I had available, talking with people whose opinions I trusted, trying to discount the political or other factors that I didn't believe should be in any way part of this decisionŠ"

Sen. Clinton also told the Code Pink women that sometimes the United States has to go it alone and she specifically compared Iraq with Bosnia and Kosovo "where my husband could not get a Security Council resolution to save the Kosovar Albanians from ethnic cleansing. And we did it alone as the United States, and we had to do it alone."

So much for the necessity of seeking allies and additional UN resolutions to follow previous unheeded resolutions before America acts.

In her Senate floor speech on Oct. 10, 2002, Sen. Clinton said, "It is clear that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons. Should he succeed in that endeavor, he could alter the political and security landscape in the Middle East, which as we know all too well affects American security." Later in that speech, Sen. Clinton criticized the UN, saying, "It often lacks the cohesion to enforce its own mandates." Adding to her conviction that Saddam must be toppled, Sen. Clinton said, "I want this president, or any future president, to be in the strongest possible position to lead our country in the United Nations or in war."

Why would they " have to deal with Hillary " maybe in their " head stuck up their ass's " mentality they would dismiss her / U.S., then where would we be??
I would have had a small portion of respect for Hillary if she would have dumped that sleeze ball of a spouse she has, but she is way too ambitious for that.
Barach Hussain Obama , think about it. At a time in our history when we are at loggerheads with the Islamic middle east , we should have a presidant with that name , I think not. It's ALL about image.

Dear Gotham

Is it that the phrasing of your blog's title tells where your heart is on this issue?

love, Heath

Gotham,

It's Barack all the way!!! (ANd sorry, not with Hillary.) He's a person of character. God, do we need someone like him.

If he runs - he would win.

Love, Kristin

Hello Gotham and Everyone,

Norm, you crack me up, you remind me of that Tammy Wynette song.."Stand by your man" you are one loyal Republican, gotta hand it to you.

Ambasteve, yes, Hillary voted to go to war, SO WHAT. That is history, she fell for the WMD's lie just the same as the rest of America. No one really cares about that anymore, we all know, now, we were taken for a ride on the Bush-Cheney
roller coaster called "Shucks and Awe, and it has broken down and we can't get off! Ever.

Gotham, we really have a ways to go before we have to decide, me, I am going to let it happen, let Barack do his thing, Hillary do hers, the rest of the sixty or seventy candidates, yet to run, do their thing, and, maybe, this time next year things will be a little clearer.

This is Hillary's now or never campaign. She is a serious contender, a formidable opponent. She would not have run if she didn't think she had a chance. She has not been sitting around these last six years "baking cookies," she has been planning, working, do what she had and has to do to be the first female President of the United States of America and she is not going to let Barack or any other Democrat stand in her way, this is business, this is the Presidency. Hillary is ready. Barack is not.

Maybe, I am just projecting because I feel I am ready for Hillary Clinton, an experienced politician, and an intelligent, articulate, tough, focused, "clean,"(haha) woman to lead this Nation. This Nation has been through hell these last six years, the hell of a divided Nation that I belive most American's now realize has been nurtured by this Republican Administration for their own benefit and our Nation has suffered because of it, we are tired of the fighting, the bickering, the fear mongering, and Hillary may just be the Woman for the Job.

have a great evening, all, ruth

Dear Ruth

I agree with your take on Hillary. I live in NY State, and she's been a fantastic senator for us.

love, Heath

Dear Heather,

Actually it was her work in the Senate that has turned me around about her as a Presidential Candidate. She has worked for and earned my respect. Hillary Clinton is an experienced politician, meaning she has taken it all, full in the face, and used it constructively for her own benefit and NY States' benefit, and that says a lot about her character. I am not going to vote for a saint, they do not have to be pretty, to be smooth, or tactful in all they say and do. I am going to vote for a political candidate that can handle the pressure of all their opponents at home and abroad and who cn keep standing and keep doing the work of taking care of this Nation. Hillary Clinton has proven her worth by me.

have a great evening Heather, peace, ruth

Ruth,

Here is what she said " I ended up voting for the resolution after carefully reviewing the information, intelligence that I had available, talking with people whose opinions I trusted, trying to discount the political or other factors that I didn't believe should be in any way part of this decisionŠ"

Sounds like she was quite thorough, checked out the facts, sounded like she didn't buy anything on the surface, she had access to the world's intelligence, so what you are saying is that she can be duped like anyone else or was she?

I just want consistancy, stand for something, now she is acting like someone who will say or do anything to win. If I had a choice , I would vote for Obama, at least he has been consistant from day one.

Now Hillary is going down the slippery Kerry slope and it's too bad. She will most likely continue to be a front runner, I will enjoy the tough questioning she will get, and let's see how she handles the hard balls.

You say so what? I saw the past comes back to bite politicians big time.

Hope you are doing well Ruth.

Steve

Gotham, your heart seems to be with Obama, your mind seems to be with Hillary.

Perhaps gradual change will be better, this time Hillary next time Obama.

Hillary is a seasoned politician she will know how to clean up the mess (Chaos) left by the previous President.

Obama will then be ready to contruct order on that.

Bravo, Harb

Hello Gotham and Everyone,

Steve, I think this Administration duped everyone. Hillary voted to go to war with the intelligence made available to her and the rest of the House and Senate, she has a lot of very good company in backing this Administration's decision. I have no problem with her vote, why? because I was totally against this decision to invade Iraq but decided to give this Administraion the benefit of the doubt. Their act at the UN was quite convincing, I can still see the little vial that was held up for all the world to see and I can still see the photos of the trucks lined up at what they called WMD locations, and I think many Americans are like me, we realize we have been duped. The Republican party is paying for this, now, and will be for awhile. They took us into a war, divided a Nation etween left and right, and, still, continue to do that, to this day, even with all that has failed with their policies, and they did not have the means, the know-how, or the integrity to launch a military action against this Arab Nation.
Our Nation is in crisis, a crisis that was brought upon us by the intentional and deceptive acts of this Bush-Cheney Administration's decision to launch this Nation into a war that may be beyond our abilities to end in such a way that both Nations are not damaged beyond repair, and you are worried about Hillary Clinton taking on the "tough" questions? You are worried about her consistancy? Look at what the consistancy of Presdident Bush's platforms have brought us in Iraq, an insurgency that has the capability of being millions strong for many, many, years while we send our measly 180,000 thousand men to try and keep a so-called lid on the boiling pot. President Bush has been nothing if not consistant.

Obama Barack is a fine choice but his experience in our political arena both at home and abroad does not compare with Hillary Clinton's and it is apparently clear listening to him speak. His constancy will fly in the face of this political arena once it is truly tested and challenged just as everyone elses' has while running for political office in this Nation.
Hillary has a tough road ahead, for sure. Like you I am interested in how she will handle it all and if she has the political mastery to achieve her goal.

Americans have seen first hand that you need more than a "show" of force, and that you need a lot more than "false bravado," to run a Nation, Americans have seen that you do need INTELLIGENCE to go with the force and the bravado, you do need to know how to talk, when to talk and where to talk without the constant threats of the mighty blows one is capable of launghing becuase they happen to be the leader of a super power.

Like I said, Hillary is far from perfect but she has the know how and after the beating she took at the hands of the GOP in the last years of her husband's term, well, what better preparation can anyone have in the political arena. She took that beating and intelligently used it to launch a very successful Senate race, won, twice, I think she will have NY State's vote in 2008.

have a great day Steve, ruth

I think Barack will be able to pull people together. He is not only inspiring but his vision seems to include everyone. What I meant by saying that he has character is that he seems genuine and congruent and to think through his positions and not merely choose based upon the party line or wanting to manipulate things to his advantage. My impression is that he comes from a place of compassion and wanting to make a difference.

Hillary, I'm not sure about. Her vision seems more polarizing to me, more "us or them". And while she may be coming from a place of compassion and wanting to make a difference, my impression is that it's more about power for her. Not that power isn't always a factor in these races, but I think it takes a rare person to effectively wield it without becoming intoxicated and at this time I don't think I'd choose her.

Love, Kristin

Quoting Ruth:

"Ambasteve, yes, Hillary voted to go to war, SO WHAT. That is history, she fell for the WMD's lie just the same as the rest of America. No one really cares about that anymore,.."

Ruth, once again, you have written a putrid pile of horse manure! I once held you in high regard, but after perusing some of your recent posts, regretfully, I stand corrected!

Let's analyze your remarks above!

a) So what: I cannot believe that someone can simply dismiss Hillary's egregious war blunder in such cavalier manner. Now you think that that was no big deal. Perhaps those tragically affected by this insane war may ask to differ with you, as well as the tax-payers whose billions are squandered in futility;

b) She fell for the WMD lies just like the rest of America. Lady, you must be loosing your mind or your memory. Do you really believe that the rest of America were duped by Bush's insidious, sinister and blatant lies. If you really believe that, you must have been in a coma and just woke up from it! What an irresponsible thing to say!;

c) No one really cares about that anymore: Really Ruth! Have you spoken with the families of those unfortunate soldiers who came home in body bags or with those families whose loved ones came home with missing limbs? Have you been to the epicenter of this war to ask the Iraqis if they care? You have either lost, or are loosing, your marbles, lady. I wish you well and hope that the next time you come on the blog you will make some sense.

Hello Everyone,

Ron, Ron, settle down. Really, I am just writing an opinion. I do find it amusing, though, that you once held me in high regard but now you are willing to toss me into the dump! I feel like all those celebraties who are carefully put on the pedestal and placed, so carefully, in the center, not, in order for their audience to admire, but in order for their audience to get a better wack at knocking them over. ouch.

answer

a) like I said, she had a lot of company in making her error or we would not have gone to war in the first place and yes if many Americans are honest with themselves they will admit they made the exact same error she did and voiced a loud and resoudning yes to the vote for war.

b)if the rest of America did not believe it and allowed this Administration to go to war in spite of their disbelief then their silence must have been taken for a big fat YES, because other than people burning Dixie Chick CD's all was quite on the American front!

c) People care very much about all the damage this Administration has done and is doing to this Nation, Iraq, and our soldiers, and, no, I do not thing the majority are not concerned about Hillary's vote, but they will be listening to her ideas on the campaign trail as to how to clean up the mess that WE Americans have allowed our Government to make while WE Americans were watching day after day without acting to stop them.

Now, if you will excuse me, Ron, I have to try and get myself out of this dumpster!

have a great day Ron, ruth

Hello Everyone,

a correction

no, I do not believe the majority are concerned with Hillary's vote..

David Says:

I do not think that I am the only one that cannot trust electronic touchscreen machines.

I would prefer the Old Manuel Voting Machines which have manuel counting devices that can be physically inspected.

I have contacted a county (election administrator) clerk in a Texas County which still uses the manuel voting machines and she told me that they are the most efficient way to conduct an election.

Many local election clerks/administrators are Liberal Democrats.

Considering the size of the challenge, I think there is a need for both. A woman AND a black man, together. Yes, I know, it's too early.

It is too early to have a Hillary in office too. She will come with plenty of shady-past offerings, which will subject the administration to public scrutiny; at their decision, to let a shady-lady--deal at the hem of the scheme(I mean, seams?)?

Ruth Darlin'.....you prolific writer of putrid piles of horse dung!! I am so losing my respect for you....you dumpster wallower!!

Have you ever watched the kids Christmas movie, 'Polar Express'? Remember that little nerdy, thick glasses wearing, know it all, little punk in that movie? I think his name was Saywack!! They musta picked him up on their way thru Calgary as they went to the North Pole!

As for Hillary....eeeeewwwwwww!! My beautiful little wife, who is blissfully unaware politically, saw Hillary on CNN this a.m. as I was watching, and said, "I can't imagine having her as president...she makes my skin crawl!!" Hmmmmmm!! I think that's a fairly typical reaction to St. Hilary!!

Hope y'all have a great day! It's colder'n blue blazes here in good ole KY today...My glacier is refreezing! I think the KY polar bears are safe for now!!

GO COLTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

norm

Hello Gotham and Everyone,

Norm, it took some doin but I got out of the dumpster! Oh, it is so sweet smellin out here.

I am sorry to hear the comment that your wife made about Hillary, I know many people feel that way about her, but many people felt that way about your man, sam,(Bush) and look where it got him. Yep, he is sittin pretty in the White HOuse, well, not so pretty, anymore, actually, the man is downright disapproved of by the many who voted for him, not once, but twice..go figure.

Norm, wishing you and your lovely wife a wonderful evening..ruth

ps. I think I will let nature or the news media take it's course for the next year and see who has survived, politically, who knows, they may all(candidates) fall down and we may have to find new ones.

Do the Amercian populus vote for people they think is 'cool'??? Mmmm,worrying... I would like to think they vote according to mandates and platforms presented to them. First woman Pres of the US, or as you put it a 'Clean cut Black guy who is Muslim'. Get real. No way. The US isn't ready for either. Just as long as Jeb Bush doesn't come in at the last minute...wouldn't put it past the Bushes.

Having seen Borat yesterday..I think most of the vote bank in the US will still have a WASP in power as long as they can.

Did Obama find a way out of disclosing his rejection of music?

Read this:

Candidates Pick Tunes at DNC Meeting

http://apnews.myway.com/article/20070202/D8N1S28G1.html

Obama missed a golden opportunity to dispel rumours and innuendo that he is in his heart a MUSLIM or NOT, by NOT picking a song at the DNC meeting in the article, but he "excused" his way out of it, coming up with this joke that out of BILLIONS of songs, he can't pick ONE? because someone else "might" be using it??? GEEZE are we supposed to buy that? He really thinks the public are that DUMB?

Does he listen to music??? I will be curious if some gutsie talk show host gets a "chance" at him to pop the question?

Something about this guy that disturbed my VIBES from the start!

He sounds to me like a guy that has agreed to be a SHILL! If thats the case he has no principals, and someone like that after still getting over the stink of the Preditor Clinton, would be more than the country could bare!

God bless the troops;

Steve:

PS: As Savage says (and I make up my own mind!) if Hitlery has anything to do with exposing Obama as a phoney, we have to thank her, but for Gods sake thats as far as it goes, NOT TO VOTE FOR HER! LOL!

Hello Gotham and Everyone

Interesting comments below,

'He sounds to me like a guy that has agreed to be a SHILL! If thats the case he has no principals, and someone like that after still getting over the stink of the Preditor Clinton, would be more than the country could bare!"

"PS: As Savage says (and I make up my own mind!) if Hitlery has anything to do with exposing Obama as a phoney, we have to thank her, but for Gods sake thats as far as it goes, NOT TO VOTE FOR HER! LOL"

you say you make up your own mind? gosh what original stuff, such an independent thought process, I had to really stretch my investigative talents to come up with the result that this commentator was probably a white, male, republican who voted twice for his hero, President Bush..

Please, these kind of remarks are sooo Libby and Rove and the United States of America is ready to move on, you may want to join us.

Hitlery? please, spare us these pathetic attempts to belittle someone you obviously disdain for simply being a woman who would dare to qualify herself as your equal and run for the highest office in the land..

America is so over this kind of pettiness, it is so neocon republican conservative bulliness.

You may want to try and write something a little more helpful to your cause.

Hillary Gets Hostile Reaction from DNC

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton isn't universally loved -- even within her own party.

At the Democratic National Committee's winter meeting in Washington, Clinton faced a hostile crowd, according to the Huffington Post.

According to the Web site, "though there seemed to be almost as many Clinton placards as there were people in the room, catcalls drowned out any roars of approval from her cheering section as she began to speak."

When Clinton stated that she had been critical of the Iraq war, a heckler at her speech retorted, "Not!" Her speech was interrupted numerous times by protesters, the Huffington Post reported.
