Anyone have favorite movies they are rooting for to win an Oscar this Sunday? I have only seen
Dreamgirls and Little Miss Sunshine. I thought Jennifer Hudson and Eddie Murphy were amazing. And Little Miss Sunshine was funny... Not sure if it would make my list for an Oscar though.
It wasn't a big movie year for me in 2006. I do want to see The Last King of Scotland and Blood Diamond. Any other must sees?

Mallika,
I would highly recommend Pursuit of Happyness. Will Smith is up for best leading actor and does an amazing job. It's truly an inspirational movie that although intense at times, left me feeling better about being a human.

HI Mallika,
I'm not sure about "Little Miss Sunshine" for an Oscar either, but it was my favorite movie this year. OMG, I laughed so hard I cried several times. My favorite scene is when the family is at the dinner table and my favorite characters are the teenage boy and the sucidal gay brother. That movie is a classic IMO, because it hit the heart of how neurotic and loveable we all are.
I suppose when I say neurotic I should just speak for myself. :)
Love, Kristin
I hope Deepa Metha wins for "Water!" Wonderful film, very well-done; heart-wrenching ending; but, with a hopeful perpective... brilliant film, on the plight of widows in India at the time. Is it still this way in India for most widows?
I think the Dixie Chicks will probably sweep these awards too.
Hi Mallika and Everyone,
I just watched Little Miss Sunshine, last night, and it had me laughing too, but I was also disturbed by the little girl's dance routine. I felt like the audience in the film when Olive is doing her routine, shocked, and then really disappointed that the movie went in that direction. Really, I went from liking and enjoying the movie to saying, now, where did that come from, and why? I got the part about the Grandfather's personality and his taste in reading material and that he was the one helping Olive with her dance routine but the whole thing left me with questions. Obviously, the grandfather and Olive shared a close relationship and it seems innocent enough until you see the dance and you wonder? I quess what I am trying to say is that for most of the movie I was enjoy an innocent and funny portrayal of a neurotic family, until the end, and, then, the movie lost it's innocence and it didn't seem so funny any more. That dance routine turned the whole movie around, for me, and as I write this I want to ask the writer, what are you saying here? Without that dance routine the Grandfather would have just been a funny, but harmless and vulgar personality, but the dance had me wondering about his time spent with Olive and the movie went from being funny to confusing, like, am I supposed to laught at this?
Now, so many people told me to see this movie because it was so funny and I finally did, but, truly the dance routine took away a lot of the fun, for me. I quess I am really surprised by my own response since no else has mentioned anything but funny in describing this movie.
The only other movie I have seen is Queen and it was okay, but Helen Mirren is superb and deserves and Oscar.
Forest Whittiker(spelling?)looks incredible in The King of Scotland but from the previews he scares the beejeepers out of me, don't think I will see it. Blood Diamond seems like a heart wrencher, haven't seen it, but glad I have never had a taste for diamonds.
have a great day everyone, ruth
Hi again,
Wanted to make a correction, that is Forest Whitaker in the Last King of Scotland and from the previews his portrayal of Idi Amin is breathtaking. I just do not think I could handle a whole hour or more of Idi Amin's crazyness and atrocities.
Forgot to mention that in Little Miss Sunshine the drug use added to my questions about the relationship.
have an awe-filled day everyone, ruth
I'm rooting for Miss Sunshine, I think funny well made movies should be considered for best picture.
Btw, since Gotham is tight with the former veep, will he be in attendance to witness his coronation as high priest of Environmentalism?
I'll be watching closely.
Cheers,
Steve

The Simpsons Movie : Trailer...
Ohhh God Malli! Something happened to me!
Right after writing these last 2 comments for you... I get out of your post... and guess what???
The post of Deepak, following yours, jumped at me: "Why Did I Do That?"... Malli, please help, I don't know!
love, love...
Here is a beautiful movie clip.
A clip from the film Aryan (thanks Heather)...
Dear Ruth,
Regarding your post #6, I wanted to comment on Olive's dance scene in Little Miss Sunshine. That was a hard scene for me the first time I watched the movie. I wanted to laugh and I did laugh, but I felt really uncomfortable at the same time. It brought up some powerful emotions from my past, probably related to having been sexually abused as a child. And yet - it was funny to me. What was funny? The contrast. Of course we know Olive's family is nuts - but look at all the "normal" kids in the contest. The way they are dressed and pranced around like adult women. That's crazy too.
Anyway, the second time I watched the movie when that scene came on I didn't hold back with my laughter as I had the first time. I really let myself laugh hard - and then I found myself crying just as hard.
It's the comic-tragedy of life that I felt. And it was good to let those feelings come and go. To laugh at the absurdity of it all and cry because we so often miss the mark.
Love, Kristin
Dear Heather: Jean is watching Kaliyon ka chaman. I think He's your type.:-)
Dear Hasela!
lol
You made me laugh a lot! :.) you are a beauty!
Dear Kristin
Thank you for sharing your perspective on the movie, I can see what you are saying about the comic-tragedy of it, I felt that too, maybe, I will wait awhile and watch it again.
have a wonder-full day, ruth
Dear Mallika
Though the films nominated for best film are all great, none of them moved me enough to make me care which wins. I hope Mirren wins best actress, and Gore's film wins documentary. And I second North in hoping Water wins foreign film. The only other categories I care about are art direction and cinematography, I'm hoping The Prestige wins there.
Dear J-F
I loved your Simpsons clip. I'm glad you found Jaaneman though my songs blog. (That video you linked to on OT is seriously hot. The guys are gonna thank you for that one! It's good to dance to, too, for any of the women here who like to dance.)
love, Heath
Going to see "The Queen" this evening. I loved. Little Miss Sunshine. I think it just flowed so well and hit every emotion one could find.
My fav scene...when they were in the room with the dead body and decided to push it thru the window and leave!
Joanie
I loved this movie..."The Queen". Helen Mirren, I think will win for best actress. She was a first class act....
I remember that night so well. It did bring it all back and at the time I did not realzize all the internal stuff going on in that storyline as they portray in the movie.
Princess D was like you and me...I had a lot of compassion for her.

Dear Mallika, I am watching the red carpet designer/jewels/celeb extravanganza-pre Oscars walk a bout!!
I have watched these Oscar awards shows for as long as I can remember back... late 60's to present(wow!)
All I can say is... under my grey hair, dim eyes, hard of hearing; and behind every wrinkle, crease, crevice and hair on my chin and lip(ahem)...behind every laugh-wrinkle, and skin sliding down my bones(aging bites); and looming behind every dimple, puff, or cellulite bump...
IF - I had the money to colour my hair, pluck my face, stretch my skin back ten years in time; lift my breasts, tuck my tummy, and lift my knees...have some liposuction..and puff up my lips... lol
I"d look just as darn good as some of them ol' gals on the carpet!! Hmmmm.. money CAN buy youth, beauty ...
Just adding some "twisted humour" slightly on the "why can't I be" JLo or Penelope Cruz in them gorgeous bleepin' gowns and bling just maybe ONE time? lol
(giggles) daydreaming outloud
Ruth, I really like to see Forest get some much, overdo credit!! He has been acting for many years; always giving a powerful performance..often not recognised for his ability; as a long-time fan, great to see him get his thus far.. and hope he takes it all the way!!
Frustratingly, I haven't seen most of the films.. only Deepa's Water.. lol
but, I have favorite actors and directors.. and anticipate greatly, to see Shekhar's "The Golden Age" on the red carpet in 2008, The Big -50- Oscars..
Well she did it...and with such class!
Joanie
Hi everyone,
North, Forest Whitaker had the best acceptance speech of the night and Helen Mirren really deserved that Oscar, actually, I was switching back and forth from the Oscars to Masperpiece Theather, watching Prime Suspect, which Helen was starring in, and, of course, she was great in that. Those dancers were awesome, and Ellen was great, very light comedy easy to laugh with.
have a great day all, ruth
HI Ruth... I agree, Forest deserved his win; though I have not seen the movie; hes a fave actor, always giving a powerful performance.
I was also very glad to see Helen win as well; she too is a powerful actress!!
I absolutely got a huge kick from the performers on the Oscar stage, whom did the shapes behind the screen.. it was real neat!!
Sometimes I wish all nominees could win; I was disappointed to not see Will and Leo win an award.. two more fave actors.. lol
Ryan Seacrest did a lousy, I mean, lousy red-carpet job.. I mean, I was shaking my head over his incompetence.. I mean, the Oscars are the creme de la creme.. picking Seacrest brought the class-show down .. way down...can't stand the guy.
Mallika,
Yes- definately see Water and every other film by Deepa Mehta. My favorite one is Fire.
Best,
Kat
hi Jean-Francois,
I missed the Oscars last night.
I almost missed your comment here!
I was at concerts Fri. Sat. and Sun. and each performance highlighted a rendition of the theme from 'Somewhere In Time'. It did move the audience so to a standing ovation. lovely, haunting melody
and romantic
(like you)
