Before Sukhdev Muni [Sanskrit: Sage] went to King Janak to get Initiation, he used to think, "How can a worldly person become the Master of a renunciate?"

-- because you know that Sukhdev Muni was a renunciate right from his birth, and whenever he used to ask his father, Ved Vyas, about Initiation, Ved Vyas would tell him, "King Janak is the only perfect Saint nowadays, but He is a King. You may think that He is a worldly person, but He is not, and He is the only one who can connect you with the Naam [and give you the] Initiation."
So whenever Sukhdev Muni would think about going to King Janak to get Initiation his mind would bring up this question, "How can a worldly person become the Master of a renunciate?" that is why, for many years, he did not go to see King Janak. But later on, when he realized that there was no other substitute for him, that he would have to go to the king to get Initiation, he finally went to see King Janak. On his way up to see Him he left his clothes and a metal cup in the courtyard of the king's palace.

When Sukhdev Muni and King Janak were talking with each other, at that time, King Janak, because He was a perfect Saint, created such a Will to teach a good lesson to Sukhdev Muni. What He did was this: after some time an attendant came to King Janak and told Him that the cantonment [the army barracks] of that city was on fire. When King Janak heard that He did not react sharply. He didn't do anything; He was not confused. He said, "It is the Will of God"; and that attendant went away.
Sukhdev Muni thought, "This person is not fit to be a king because the army is like the heart of the king. He should have gone to rescue the people who are in the fire; he should have done something to save them, but he doesn't care. So that is why he is not fit to be the king." After some time, when they were still talking, another person came and told King Janak, "Now the city is on fire." King Janak again remained calm and quiet; He only said, "It is the Will of God." Sukhdev Muni again had that negative thought. He thought, "He is the king and he must have a lot of things in his palace so that is why he thinks, `Why should I worry about the city and the people of my kingdom?' But it is very bad that he doesn't care for the other people. He is only bothered and concerned about his own self. That is why he is only saying, `It is God's Will,' and doing nothing to save the other people."
After some time another person came and said, "Your Highness, now even the palace is on fire. The courtyard of the palace is on fire." At once Sukhdev Muni jumped up to save his clothes and his metal cup. Then King Janak held him by his hand and said, "Now you tell me - who is the renunciate, you or me? You left some clothes and some trivial things in my courtyard, and you are afraid that you will lose them if you don't rush to take them. But you see that when the cantonment was on fire, when the city was on fire, I didn't go to save them because I am not attached to them. So now you can decide who is a renunciate and who is not."

Then Sukhdev Muni learned that in reality he was attached to the world and King Janak was not. Even though King Janak used to live like a worldly person, since He was a King and He had many obligations, many responsibilities, but in fact He was not attached to all those things. He was just performing His duty. So when he realized that King Janak was a perfect One, and that he should take Initiation from Him, he requested, "Master, now You should give me Initiation."
But King Janak was not going to give him Initiation so easily. He told Sukhdev, "Well, I will give you Initiation, but first I will put you to some tests, and if you pass those tests, only then you will get the Initiation."
King Janak gave Sukhdev Muni a cup full of oil and told him, "You take this oil, and holding this cup in your hand, go around the city. If you come back with the same amount of oil, without dropping even a single drop of this oil, only then will I understand that you can concentrate, and that you can do the meditation. And only then will I give you Initiation." He said, "Mind that, if you drop even a single drop of oil on the ground, you should know that a person with an open sword is behind you, and he will cut off your head, so you should be very careful."
When Sukhdev Muni took that cup of oil and went into the city, King Janak, at many places in the city, had arranged some distractions, such as dancers and other things. This was only to attract Sukhdev Muni's attention. But Sukhdev Muni had the desire of realizing God, and he wanted to get the Initiation from the perfect Master, and since he knew that if he dropped the oil he would be killed, he was afraid of death also. So his mind didn't tell him to look at all those things, all those distractions, and he was so concentrated in that cup of oil that even though he went all around the city he didn't look at any other thing except that cup of oil. When he came back to King Janak having passed that test King Janak asked him, "Tell me, what did you see in the city? Did you like the city?" He said, "Let me tell you that I didn't see anything in the city. I don't know what was happening there, because I was afraid that I would be killed if I removed my attention from this cup of oil, so I was fully concentrated on this cup."
Then King Janak said, "Now I see that you can concentrate in the meditation also. Later on, when you get Initiation, if you will have that much concentration in your meditation, only then will you become successful." Later, after Sukhdev Muni passed many other tests, and when he got the Initiation, he was so much concentrated in his meditation that he became successful, and he also became a perfect Saint.
So if we also remember that death is hanging over our head, and we are not supposed to look at this or that place, if we remember and we have real yearning for God, then there is no question of our mind taking us away from our Simran. We will be absorbed in the Simran just as the attention of Sukhdev Muni was absorbed in that cup of oil.
Our head is filled with the enjoyments and the distractions of the world, and we always remember them. But if we are afraid of our Master, if we are afraid of our death, and if we remember that our main purpose for coming into this world is to realize God, then it will not be very difficult to take our mind away from the enjoyments and distractions of the world. We can easily put all our concentration and all our attention in the Simran only.

Dear Harb
I am delighted that you find His Holiness Sant Ajaib Singh ji's countenance lovely, for it is.
He is my Master, though he left His physical body in 1997. He initiated me in 1982 into Surat-Shabda-Yoga (Soul-Vibration-Union) and married me to Surinda on 31st March 1996 at 16 PS Rajasthan, almost 11 years ago!
As far as King Janak is concerned, whose Perfect Master was Ashtavakra, it would be marvellous to be the dust of his shoes, even for that I am not worthy.
Yes, as The Consciousness wanted, it seemed logical to move HQR to King Janak given the previous Socratic Dialogue's sequencing.

DK:
Fantastic story!! These days, because of my busy work - I hardly get the time to come to Intentblog.. but when I do I keep looking for your stuff from Sant Kripal Singh.. this one was as good!
I recently met a person on the plane - who teaches English in Japan and has come back to the US. By his own admission, he grew up in a mid-western conservative home but has been asking questions after coming in contact with the Japs. I suggested he come to Intentblog (since he is a Deepak Chopra fan) and read the Big D's stuff as well as the Socratic Dialog.
Your work is just amazing!
Thanks,

It should be just as good! HH Sant Ajaib succeeded HH Sant Kirpal.
The One-in-All is just amazing and not myself.

Dear D.K.
We would love to hear the story of your initiation.
Are you allowed to talk about it? If you could...
"Ocean Of Love" is a fantastic painting!
My Simran needs some work, I can see that. Tough lesson.
I still have all my fingers and toes, though.
I do have to 'pay' close attention at work for my safety
and for other's welfare. Way too many people
do not watch where they are going or keep an eye out for danger.
Awake, alert, attentive,
careful, cautious and considerate
are included in my morning prayer.
I will have more time in retirement
to space off and set my Simran
on the right target. Maybe,
if it's okay with Him.
Till then, Keith~
I liked the picture above and the story was very interesting, so I enjoyed it as well.
Personally, I never believed anyone had to be initiated to find Self or God, as it just happens, when the timing is right. Right? But I can see how connecting to someone on a higher level can pull that person up to a greater level of consciousness, which can be done on the web site, from a book, nature, church, temple, just about anywhere, i.e., such as Harb’s experience with this post, which we all have as well but might not realize it..
The reason I am commenting on this part is that I am trying to understand why people need an initiate and do they really need one? I am attempting to and in the process of briefly studying all religions (5 years already and I still know nothing, as I see how ignorant I am.). I am especially trying to connect the parts to where God is the same, no matter where we turn to for an explanation, as I think when something is the same no matter who perceives it, it is the Truth, i.e., such as that wheel/star thing - I think why the object looked a little different to each person is because their perception was different, which depended on the level of sight.
For example, when I briefly study Wicca, they believe in being initiated as well and I guess Christians do to as they get baptized in water. So this must be what it means? But why? And is it really necessary? Part of me tells me that it will be done on its own, and the other part of me wonders if it will ever happen to a person who has not been initiated? Do we really need to be initiated? Maybe we do this because it is the fastest way to grow?
I have been reading in the Bhagavad Gita by Stephen Mitchell, Chapter 12 on "Divine Manifestations" where The Blessed Lord talks about who he is and what he loves and/or how to reach him. And it talks about renunciation and many other paths to the Divine. Deepak says we do not have to renunciate, if we are detached, so that's what the story above must be saying as well.
Again, enjoyed the picture & story. Thanks for sharing! I will figure it all out eventually and maybe in this life time….ha! in that I wish :- ) But surely I am not read to renunciate, like what the Bhagavad Gita talks about not enjoy pain or pleasure or the other stuff, because I cannot leave this world and I need that stuff to survive, i.e., I’ve got to eat, so I’ve got to work. Humm….my dilemma. Five years ago, as begged God to give me none-existence and this is what I get … lots of lessons and renunciation stuff as well as not only loving God (which I found out was easy once I tried it), but I have to love everyone and I just cannot do it. I just cannot feel love for others and it is what I must do. So I have been trying to figure out how to do that. I am told by Whispers in the Wind that, “You do not understand Love.” But I am told daily, “Be Love,” and given a lot of reminders. It’s like if I love another, I lose myself….humm, that’s it! That’s it, I am afraid of not existing as I asked for :- )
Well, just rambling on about myself, so I’d better stop.
Love, Char
Dear DK, Nice wisdom in the above.
There is one part though:
"But if we are afraid of our Master, if we are afraid of our death, and if we remember that our main purpose for coming into this world is to realize God, then it will not be very difficult to take our mind away from the enjoyments and distractions of the world."
Fear is the opposite of love it is not the best motivator when related to human behavior. It may work for good purpose in one lacking reason and wisdom, but only to a point, once one learns to reason, and gains some wisdom it would serve no purpose.
One would never create fear in the minds of others as a tool, caution perhaps but not fear. Perhaps they may create it in their own mind, and it might serve a purpose.
"if we remember that our main purpose for coming into this world is to realize God"
Who made this up? Sounds like a belief to me. Why would that be a purpose? What do we mean by "realize"?
Why the game? If God wanted to be realized he might just appear and say here I AM! Unless of course he was making a game of it! That could make sense children get bored and play a game to eliminate the boredom.
The only realization I know of is self realization, your divine nature, often hidden by the fictions of the mind.
Or is God really another word for truth. Are we saying we come here to realize truth?
The truth that nothing is separate? Why the whole exercise?
God cannot die and God is the only one doing. Why does he pretend with himself so?
Then there is this die and become one with God concept. What is the purpose in that? To listen to a pleasant hum for eternity and feel like you are on heroin? Seems to me one would become numb to that experience after time. One might say screw this and go looking for something else, some mountain to climb for example.
Why not become One with God in this world be surrounded by Nature and enjoy it?
I must say although it this above is a nice level of being, it is still a level of illusion.
Just the thoughts that come to mind.
Let us play as children in the garden and laugh and pretend, and remember what we are pretending are fictions, to not take fictions as truth, and not get too serious, because that leads to war and conflict in the garden and ruins the game.
~I say and I AM
I hear music :- ) and singing ... so beautiful. There is love here, I can feel it.
Love, Char
I did like the first part about being attached to things. Yet if one felt moved to put out the fires and could do so because it were in their power this would also be divine will.
Also about being focused and the "distractions". This is an interesting area for exploration. Several weeks ago I was with two friends very wise and knowing.
We pulled up along side a car downtown and there was a commotion around it, and cry’s of anguish they ripped through my soul. At the time we were having a very very deep discussion which it interrupted the kind where we are on the edge of divine realization.
They at the car said a baby was choking; it was the mother we could hear. I felt moved to do something and get out of the car, but the others said there is nothing we can do, go, it is a "Distraction".
I had noticed this distraction phenomena produced by the universe. One seemed to imply that it was a type of balancing, another implication was that it was like the egoic force steering us away from the divine.
I also wonder about divine revelation is it impossible with multiple beings that are really one to have it at the same moment. Can God be in two points of view at the same moment if they cast aside the illusion?
What happens to the illusion? Is it to much vibration for the world at the moment? Does the universe counter with a lower vibration? Which we call a distraction?
What do you all think?
DK any thoughts or wisdom?
Is there a fail safe? If God were to fully awake would it destroy all of creation? Does Maya step in to keep her husband asleep, to enjoy his dream, so the dance continues?
Is the reason there is so much war today a counter balance to the extreme divine walking the planet in multiple instances? Is the war a distraction allowing the play to run it’s self out?
Just thoughts mind you, nothing serious, perhaps if God awakes he just goes back to sleep and picks up where he left off. :)
What happens when a whole civilization wakes up, does it simply dissolve? Leaving nature and consciouness to start anew?
Is this what happens in 2012 and is why the Mayan calendar ends in that year?
Dear Richards,
I meant to tell you in one of your last posts on DK's dark spirit post, that I had no idea you were wise until I read a few of your last ones. I have a really hard time reading long posts, but I do like the ones on God.
Anyway, I guess I read DK's post the other way around and thought he meant ... that not to fear was the way? So maybe I miss-read? But I can say the reason I never wanted any part of the church was due to the way Christians who are not self-realized attempt to induce fear in order to bring people to God. I told myself in my early youth, that I was not going to follow anything that used fear, as I believed that God was Love. So eventually, 40 years later, I am getting to know the God of Love. Therefore, fear it is not the way from my own personal experiences; so I am with you on that Love is the way and fear is the lack of Love. If we could just be Love, we would fear nothing, not even death or all those so-called demons. I use to tell myself, I bet God is not afraid of the dark, so why should I be. But of course, I looked to God for help :- ) and with lots of prayer. So I can related to DK’s dark spirit post and how he must feel. God loves everything and I believe God sees everything differently than we do (me for sure), i.e., such as what is good and evil – according to the Gnostic text, what we perceive as evil cannot even come close to what is evil. And the Bible says that man will know good and evil as We (i.e., God) do. I use to think that meant to know evil and God was evil as well as good, but I now see it differently, i.e., such as the play of Light and the shadow. So I don’t believe in evil any more, except that it is another word for ignorance … that’s evil, i.e., or causes great evil as we know it. So again, we all have different definitions depending upon our perceptions.
Love, Char
Just thoughts mind you, nothing serious, perhaps if God awakes he just goes back to sleep and picks up where he left off.
Who are the 12 groups of 12,000 (144,000) that are to be preserved by their own self selection and simply by grace? Are these the meek?
Will ships appear in the sky’s to save these few of the human race? Will they be directed to places of safe haven where Amaranth is stored and extreme weather housing is built?
I should share with you all a curious happening.
I had figured out the minimal budget $1,890,720.00 for Infinite Play the Movie. I had already decided to sell the Keys for $13.13 for several reasons.
1. To keep away the "negative" ones (superstitious)
2. The number 13 has significance.
3. It has a special meaning to some of knowing
When I divided the budget by 13.13 I got 144,000 I thought cool nice even number.
Somebody else said that is that number in the Bible. By golly I thought you are right, what a coincidence.
I thought that's great let's play on that...
That means we will have 144,000 special people in a database. 144 is also the first perfect square in the fibonacci series.
It may just be a coincidence but I thought to be fair I would set aside a certain number for people in other countries that may not learn about it at first.
Hey who knows, I just follow the leads coming to me it's just a movie. :)
You can read more in detail if you click my name.
People propagate fictions because if others believe them they derive benefit from it. So they try to convince people why they should believe such and such. Some people even create their own fictions because it benefits them so they think. A lot of advertising is an attempt to establish fictions in your mind so that you will act as predicted.
So they devise the belief systems. You are born pure and perfect and then you are taught language with which illusion is created. You are also taught you are imperfect.
And then you are indoctrinated with be(lie)fs that benefit others. The same thing happened to your parents, and their parents. If you don’t believe then you are a threat to the “believer’s” belief system and they won’t like you and may even attack you (actually they attack the illusions in their minds, don’t take it personal).
Quite often if you do not adopt the fictions of "the others" you are an outcast, you are punished so the child gives in so that he can get his rewards going against his true self.
Scarcity is a good example if you own something scarce, then your rich and can escape toil, yet they end up toiling in bed unable to sleep. There is no escaping toil.
So as children we are taught these fictions about life and we deny our true self leading to a life of strife, conflict, toil and no happiness, for most. Many become indentured servants enslaved without chains their attachments are their chains and society the salve is the wip. Society creates fictions to avoid it’s own truth.
The truth will set you free. I am you and you are me. Remember language is used to create Illusion and to destroy it.
The never ending story...
Char,
Thanks, knowing wisdom and applying it are two different things, but it is usually the ego that leads to unwise decisions. Listening and observing with a silent mind one gains wisdom that and listening to our elders that have gained it from much experience (not the ones teaching fictions) but don't you love the ones that tell good stories that impart wisdom!
I do things that are not very wise sometimes but less then I used to.
Great thought, wisdom, and awareness in your post above. Love and fear cannot both exist in the mind at the same time.
I don't know maybe I misread it. Then again perhaps your mind imposed the truth over top of a fiction.
Even then some fictions can lead some to the truth!
I always say, if there were no fear on this planet there would be nothing to fear. Fear is what causes detrimental behavior. Fear is born of ignorance and the fictions we are taught or choose to believe.
Aloha DK
I love these type of stories of life experiences. What is death?:) The external breath stops. Death is the only certainty, when and how become delightful uncertainty, when we remember the only thing permanent is change. As Deepak shares birth and death are a continuum. When we focus on God, first cause is no longer an issue. Enlightenment is only in the moment.
love patty
Dear Keith #6. You know, we are given the work which will help us increase our concentration more and more. Reaching total concentration is our goal, for then, we will almost pierce through things/forms and see their common ground of Consciousness or God. It too is a form of Simran.
Seems yours is almost at par with the Sukhdev Muni when he was asked to carry the cup of oil, for, if you will slacken a bit, your very life will be in danger. I think it could have been the highest work SOT (Grand Scheme of Things)could have given one before one is ready to see through things.
May be , when you will retire you would have already completed your Simran. Post that, your very natural way of living will be your best Simran. You will not DO Simran then, but will rather see that there is nothing but Simran happening all around you in every movement of everything. In Hindi or Sanskrit, it is called living in Sahaj Samadhi - natural oneness with All, like a child.
Char #7
Dear Char, as they say, spirituality shows the way/goal, science/rationality takes us there step by step.
It is the same as, right or intuitive part of our brain shows the way, left or rational part takes us there step by step.
Some people have more of the former, some more of the latter.
Those who have more of the former (intuitive), can initiate things but can falter later on or in giving them practical shape or taking them to their logical conclusion. . Those who have more of the latter, i.e., more of the rational, may find it difficult to initiate things but once initiated then they can make great accomplishments.
I think those who opt for initiation are people in some way of the second kind. Surrender by them compensates for their lacking intuitive content. Scientific/rational/worldly they already are. Thus joined they become a force to reckon with in their respective fields.
This also explains why all will not need to be initiated. Of course, thy will need to get help from the other kind once they have initiated something.
Extrovert will need to be initiated, introvert will need help in the middle.
The Illegal Aliens Issue
Arizona Gov. Admits Seeing Phoenix Lights
Ten years after the Arizona UFO incident known as the Phoenix Lights, former Arizona Republican Governor Fife Symington III, has told journalist Leslie Kean that he himself was a witness to one of the strange unidentified flying objects, even though he originally did not say so publicly. "It was enormous and inexplicable," he said in an exclusive interview from his home in Phoenix. "Who knows where it came from? A lot of people saw it, and I saw it too." Even though he had seen the gigantic triangular object that passed over the area hours before the Phoenix lights themselves appeared, Symington nevertheless held a press conference ridiculing the event. He now says that he did this because of building hysteria.
Taking this into account my evolutionary theory is probably most plausible.
Hello DK and Everyone,
The home of the Supreme SELF is the Absolute, the void. Then after a long time, this SELF sitting in the cold, dark void, gets bored and wants to do something. Being creative, He wants to play, since there is no work to be done out there (he does not need to earn a living) he finds no company and, therefore, starts playing with hinself.
He decides to play hide-and-seek, because it is an easy game. He quickly manifests a blanket made of ego-stuff(in the absolute everyting is possible.) Then he separates a part of himnself and covers it with this blanket of ego, and goes BOO! Well, this is a very interesting and delightful game . So, he gets another blanket of ignorance of SELF and wraps it around the previous blanket. This looks like fun, he thinks, and adds a blanket of intellect and of emotion, more ignorance, and a thick physical blanket.
Soon the part that is all wrapped up in ignorance and ego stops recognizing the original SELF. He is so involved in the goings-on inside it's cocoon of blankets that it completely forgets it's playful part. It is now down to the physical level of consciousness, the so-called physical reality. Unaware of himnself, he is like the king, so the tale goes, who put on rags and went out among the people to find out what life is all about. Unfortunately the king became so involved in real life, he forgot about being a king. And so it goes with us, we are so immersed in our lives we have forgotton our real status. But, the SELF in the void has not. He is still playing. Now and then he will lift the blankets and say, "Hi, there!" but most of the time we are too busy to notice it. However, he won't let go, and we will get another stimulus, and another until we start responding. The SELF will be pleased. He will continue to stimulate...a brief tour of consciousness..by Itzhak Bentov
have a wonder-full day everyone, ruth
Interesting story ruth, and the King reminds me of a similar story from my book Self Designed Universe. Since the blankets are in the form of four basic forces of gravity, electromagnetism, strong and weak forces I have named them as such. They may be taken as the blankets of physicality, emotions, intellect and intelligence/spirituality.
*******
A certain prince lived in a state called Oneness with his King-Father. One day the King-Father put before him an interesting proposition. He told him that he will make him the king of the state of Oneness if he would successfully travel through four specially built towns named Gravitown, Electrotown, Strongtown and Weaktown and come back to stake his claim. He warned him that each of the first three towns will be more labyrinthine than the previous one, and it will be only the last, the fourth one which may be of some help to him.
The prince agreed, thanked the King-Father and embarked on the proposed journey. He did not face much difficulty in passing through the first two towns – the Gravitown and Electrotown. But he found himself overwhelmed by the intricacies involved in the make-up of the third town, the Strong town. This town seemed more inside than outside, more full of virtual mazes than actual, more full of illusive mazes than real. He at once knew that he will have to study it thoroughly to get out. Brilliant as he was in his college days, he put himself on the job of learning all the facts about the town with complete confidence.
Soon he was lost even to himself so to say in the study of the town, more so because the town’s intricacies so fascinated him.
Anyway, after a certain time he had studied it so thoroughly that he knew it inside-out so to say. He became conscious of every actual and virtual aspect of it, even every actual and virtual brick used in its construction. He became sort of a specialist of this town. He thought there was left really nothing more in it for him to know.
But alas! While he had thus reached the peak of knowledge of this town, peak of consciousness of this Strong town, wow be to his thorough absorption into its study - to the point of almost losing himself as we said above - he forgot his original state of Oneness, and needless to say, his promise to return to it to stake his claim.
He may well have remained lost in it for ever were his King-Father, knowing his plight, not to sent his messenger by the name of Time to gently pick him up during his sleep to catapult him into the next town, the Weaktown. From where because he could see the boundaries of the state of Oneness once again, he could come to remember it again. And of course, his promise to return to it to stake his claim.
Needless to add, from there onwards it was again a smooth journey for him. All he had to do was to shed his so-called knowledge/consciousness of the previous town (of ego based intellect)and only keep his attention now fixed on the state of Oneness soon to be reached.
*******
Seems we are now in the process of being picked up by our King Father to catapult us into the Weaktown lol.
A little bit about "initiation":
There can be an outer and an inner initiation. The outer initiation can be in the form of a ceremony and is actually intended to symbolize an inner process.
The inner initiation (or initiations) is (are) moments of realization that change the seeker's viewpoint by expanding it, causing the seeker to redefine him (her) self.
The first inner initiation is a shift whereby a person understands that their nature is to be on a spiritual path.
This initial inner initiation may or may not be accompanied by outer lifestyle changes. The person might be a householder and continue his worldly duties as before, but the perspective from which they engage their life has changed.
Or, they may actually change their outer circumstances as a result of their inner initiation.
Some people seek the outer initiation first, hoping that it will help trigger the inner one. There are people who have been through all kinds of ceremonies, or graduated from courses of study, but they have not experienced the inner initiation.
That's not good or bad or right or wrong, just understand that PhD's in Comparative Religion do not NECESSARILY indicate the person has inner wisdom. You can have both, but one is not necessary for the other.
Later on more initiations come that that shift a person even out of being a spiritual seeker. "Seeking" by definition means you believe you are missing something; it is a state of restlessness.
So the second inner initiation comes with the inner experience of I Am That. That's the end of seeking.
There are outer ceremonies designed to symbolize that process too, usually ceremonies by which a disciple drops his disciple name and acquires a name which indicates mastery.
Sometimes the outer and inner initiations are simultaneous, and most often they are not.
A person who has spent a lifetime of study and has many certificates and degrees may in retirement experience his second initiation. He has all the papers, but the inner realization comes later.
Or someone who has no interest in studying philosophy, or religion, may have the inner initiations. Most likely those near to him will come to respect and love him because he has the true understandings, but there will never be talk of his having mastered anything, because he never undertook a so-called "spiritual path".
I think there are all kinds of wise people in the world, most of whom haven't pursued what is commonly called a "spiritual path" but live their lives from viewpoints of deep understanding.
Just to say thank you to all who responded to my pondering...Richard, Harb, Yogi-One and others. I liked your stories as well. :-)
Hello DK and Everyone,
Yogi-One I agree with your,"I think there are all kinds of wise people in the world, most of whom haven't pursued what is commonly called a "spiritual path" but live their lives from viewpoints of deep understanding."
A friend of mine had their initiation during a week long presentation concerning saftey at home and in the work place. The Presenter was a "master" but not just on "saftey issues" also on the presentation of SELF. Of course, not a word was uttered about SELF, Spirituality, or Presence but all were apparent in his presentations on saftey for those who were able to see and feel the Presence that was eminated from him during his presentations. He was a master of subtly. His stare had the power to turn your attention away from him and into oneself as if to say,"it is time to look within." and you knew, exactly, the message was delivered, his part was done. My friend said all she could say at the end of the week's presentation was THANKYOU.
there are as many ways to receive your messages on your individual quests as there are people on this planet.
have a wonder-full day ruth
ps. many blessings to Elizabeth Edwards(husband is John Edwards US presidential candidate) whose cancer has returned.
Since we are talking about intitation!
Infinite Play has a very unique form of initiation using web based technologies etc. rather than people.
Then once you make it through certain levels, you actually connect and meet others that have made it through. It is only by syncronicity and being of a certain frame of mind and being connected to the source that you can make it through the entire process. No ego is involved which is why I designed it this way.
On this page:

The initiation begins.
The page includes a link to to an image of a page from a Secret book from 1890 about Ancient Masonry "the original legend of initiation". In fact back then it was "Hindoostan" and it actually talks of Rishis (I only just noticed this).
You will have to check it out for yourself.

Perhaps some will find their way to the Club of 144,000 it works by "Self" selection. No ego involved. One must achieve Self realization to join the club.
Amazing are the people that find their way.
Fellow initiates,
Introverts have inner, left-brain, intuitive realizations of Self.
Their affirmations and moments of timelessness
must be felt in their souls. An experienced event
in the world will not move them to inspired action.
Extroverts have outer, right brain, observable
realizations which can be held under scrutiny.
Like the firefighters in 9/11, their inspired action
is likely to be a response to happenings in the world.
I cannot imagine them acting like King Janak.
Not everyone gets to choose a career path or occupation.
Some jobs are very suitable for loners while
some jobs require out-going, sociable people.
You can find personality tests at the book store.
If you will be very honest with yourself and not cheat
by looking ahead, I think they give a pretty good
estimation of your character traits.
I tried it out once and came out 50/50. I'm not exactly sure
what we're shooting for here but hopefully it's balance.
I, myself, would likely put out the fire if I could.
Baptism via water would be an outer, "show the world"
type of realization for the public eye, not for the recipient.
Baptism by fire, which is what Christ was all about,
is an inner experience that changes your life
and the world at the same time.
The way I see it...today. Tomorrow?
Is Friday. That's a truth. Right on!
Keith~
Hi Keith,
I meant to tell you on the dark spirit thread of DK’s that I liked your poetry.
After reading all the responses, that’s what I figured that out about baptism in water as well. I was baptized in water at 15 years old, as I was almost pulled up out of the pew and moved to the front of the church in an emotional state. Once I got baptized and sat back down, the church lit up a little, as if a light was turned on. But nothing else really happened. I managed to read the 1st four chapters in the NT afterward, but it felt empty, as I remember thinking, if only Jesus was here in the flesh, he could help me. I now realize that that was an outer experience, but something did happen, but not on the inside, as far as I could tell.
Anyway, when you mentioned 9/11, that’s when I fell apart and could not stop crying even though I did not know anyone who was killed in the tragedy. And four months later, my bio-father shot himself. That’s when I experienced the inner baptism, as I prayed to God in the name of Jesus Christ to take my pain away, since I literally could not stop crying. Then I immediately stopped crying and felt no pain whatsoever. I felt nothing, as I pondered upon it, thinking that it was strange. I know that’s when the Holy Spirit held me.
What I wanted to mention is that I watched the 9/11 movie last weekend and unless the movie director/producer/writer made this up, I kept hearing (I will say, Whispers in the Wind) after 9/11 the name “Bianca” (sp?) which is the name of a baby girl who was born after 9/11 according to the movie. At the time I could not find the name on the web or anywhere. Then I thought that I was not spelling or hearing it right and that it might be “Beyond Call”. My final thought was that it might be “Beana” (SP) from some Thor or Thelema material (A. Crowely’s writings). Then I went back to thinking it might be “Bianca” and even got an eMail from a Bianca Church (not what you think) after I meditated during lunch. Finaly, I did another web search and found a band (or singer) with that name. I think it must have been the name of that little girl, but I still do not know why I heard the name.
BTW: I just went to some of my old book marked websites and they are all gone, even the scared school of Wicca (I faced everything I was afraid of - I hope :-) where I could read free 100+ year old documents (was during my studies on this religion) and who I found the information is another mystery for another story. Anyway, the scared ancient/old documents can also be found somewhere else, as I did get a book mark from one of the chopra.com posters that I still have, which has some really good documents: http://www.sacred-texts.com/
Well, I did not mean to go into all this detail, but ended up doing it anyway and discovered something interesting.
Love,
PS: My curiousity about initiation was mainly due to what I was taught by my grandmother that one had to be baptised in water to be saved, as well as being done a certain way and by a certain person. So I have pondered and pondered about it and what it all means and if it really has to be the way her religion/church teaches it. I am beginning to believe that initiation can and does come in many different forms, such as the one DK had. They are all valid and true, as one will just know that they are connected to Self/God/One (whatever one chooses to call it. Now I don't worry about other people in this way and just share my experiences as I try to learn and grow within.
Love, Char
PPS: Also I know that God takes care of everything and I don't need to worry about anything. I've heard many times..."Celebrate My Love." I like that and it tells me to enjoy life and stop worrying as I unfortunately do.
Love, Char
Oh and if anyone hasn't read the "Bhagavad Gita" (everyone here probably has) by Stephen Mitchell, it's great! It describes the self, as well as the Self in detail. I have a few more chapters left. I just love this book.
Love, Char
Thinking some more .....
There was one other name that I kept hearing after my 9/11 experience for several years .... Over and over again. I've heard different meanings everywhere. I cannot share this particular name, because I think it might be my new name. And I think we are not suppose to ever share that name, so I have not ever spoke it except in my notes. Has anyone ever heard anything about this or like it? i.e., that we cannot share our new name? I don't hear the name anymore, unless I listen to Deepak 'soulofhealingmeditation' CD, so maybe it might have meant something else? I quit listening to the CD several months ago after almost 5 years daily!
It's like I stopped almost all my practices last July, as some really bad stuff started happening with roommates and finances. Now all those issues are cleared up and I am almost afraid to practice anything now. But I do continue reading the Bible every night and morning more on the lines that I don't want to lose my connection to God...always afraid God will go away, even though I hear, "I Am Faithful." Or more importantly, I am more afraid that will not be able to hear anymore. Because God is really nice and I would miss God very very much.
Oh well ... I guess this post of DK's got me to thinking about things and sharing them, even though most would think it's really weird, so I cannot talk to anyone about God, but on these boards of Deepak's. I so love Deepak for all he has done for me and many others. If it were not for Deepak and his help, I would feel all alone. I cannot turn to my early religion, nor can I join another religion...it's so strange, like I don't not belong anywhere and have no home. This is why I need God so much, as He (for me) is always there for me and love me very much as God loves everyone very very much. I heard a few months ago within the Wind, "I am pouring out My oil on the world." This makes me smile. I also heard within the Wind a few days ago, “Everyone will be like you,” which made me feel good. What is meant by this is that everyone will be able to see and hear God … Oneness with God and with Everyone else. Isn’t that sweet. No – I am not really there or pure for that matter as I pray to God … forgive me for such and such and please remember that you said your were “Faithful.” And I will not bore anyone with the what was said to me as I wrote down a page, which I don’t usually do anymore as no ones what to hear it and it’s really about me and my growth to realizing Self, but what caused me to write was when I heard within the Wind ,” I saw what you did last night. God is Faithful. I love you. I forgive you.” And etc. So I don’t know about everyone else as this doesn’t match what a lot of people say about Self and God, so I assume it is my own personal relationship with God. I share this to only show others who may not believe that they have a relationship with God/Self (you do, but may not be fully aware of it), what it can be like to be loved every day; to hear gentle words of encouragement all day long; to; to be guided by a powerful and loving force that’s merciful. This God of ours loves everybody equally…everything … every creature. God does not lie either, but may hold something back that we cannot handle. I remember when God first started tell me that God was within and then that I am god too, it was very hard to handle, but it was all at the right time. I know there is so much more and I cannot wait … well I want worry too much about it as I am back from a fairly long rest/break and ready for more lessons :- ) … wherever that may take me.
Well … that’s my God anyway :- ) and some of my experiences. God is great and God is good. God is Love and Love is God … my favorite description of God.
.... almost time to go home...
Love, Char
Dear Char,
You are a firecracker!
This may be none of my business, but are you a female?
I've screwed this up before, many times, that's why I ask.
Thank you for the compliment and recognition!
I'm sorry if I helped you wring out a few more tears,
but that's the only way to get over it, imho.
It's all good, Char. We can handle anything
with a teeny-weensy mustard seed of faith.
And I see you have one. Show it the light.
Good-night! Keith~
Keith,
Are we going beyond even gender differences....As according to my forces theory childhood and old age are in many ways identical (thanks to identicalities in gravity and weak force), we are slowly going beyond the gender difference in the same way as a child is? She does not recognize this difference in her beginning years and we my do the same increasingly as we progress in this phase of weak interactions lol.
Amuse over...
Grandma with a mustache or Grandpa growing boobs...or,
Mother changes the oil and Father, the diaper.
The dad is usually older and loses his marbles and memory first.
Mom becomes the financial wizard and ultimate caregiver.
Looks to me like we switch places, if it wasn't that way already.
The body human provides us all the evidence we need.
Good reason not to identify with it.
G'day! Keith~
Hello DK and Everyone,
My friend has also described their experience with this Master Presenter as being run over by a "Mack Truck," without a hair on your head being touched in anyway. It was like one minute there you stood full of your self in front of the oncoming truck, playing a friendly game of chicken and boom the truck runs right over you but there you stand, unharmed, complete in everyway, except instead of being full of yourself you are radiantly empty. The self that you were- no longer there, but not completely lost either, you still eat, drink and move, answer to you name, love you family, go to you job, but, really, you do not exist, at all, anymore. you were awakened, with a look, a Presence, a rememberence. Emptiness lives and works and eats and drinks and swears when someone cuts them off on the highway going 80 mph. So, really take a good look at yourself, solid muscle and bone, full of thoughts, feelings and opinions, longings and dreams who would think it could all disappear before your very eyes, in broad daylight,in a room full of people and no one noticed a thing, no one noticed the difference, the before or after, the subtly of it all, it is wondrous indeed.
have a wonderfull day everyone, ruth
Dear Ruth,
It's the way of the expression, in your post #38
"before enlightenment, chop wood carry water. after enlightenment, chop wood carry water."
The transformation is the inner one - which as you say can happen any place or moment - and you know, nothing is the same as before, because You have changed. Or become - empty - or awake. To me, it is to be fully present - and it's wonderful. This came to me not by a master or guru or initiation, but through the presence of nature being revealed to me.
I hope you are enjoying your day. I am off shortly to get my passport renewed - sometime this summer I and my body are scheduled to travel overseas. :)
With love,
~ Kate
Hi Harb,
I think too - reading your book did something to me (besides confusion :)) - to add to my sense of - falling in love and seeing my 'entwinement' hmmm is that a word?
It can be heavenly
:)

Kate,
Your life and business seem very fascinating. All the people you meet through your work, I bet there are many interesting stories there. Have you and your mister ever considered writing a book? If not, you should.
Patzi
I don't know if I should be laughing or what, but after I read Keith's and Harb's responses, I cracked up. And I am at work, as my boss just came back from lunch too and I could not stop laughing and it was kind of loud, so I had to hold my breath and shut my mouth as I laughed. Hey, thanks guys ... my oil of joy (a term my son use as his eMail address and I only just recently understood what it meant).
Love, Char
Okay ... now that I am not laughing any more, I heard within the Wind several months ago ... "God will make you a man." I think that this means complete, as in mankind both male and female according to the Bible.
Okay ... now that I am not laughing any more, I heard within the Wind several months ago ... "God will make you a man." I think that this means complete, as in mankind both male and female according to the Bible. Even Deepak talks about how we all must have both the male and female traits in us to be whole, according to his "Gift of Love" CD and in some of his other writings. So I tend to agree with that, so maybe this is why we go from male to female and visa-versa depending upon our age, as we have all heard of the phenomena.
BTW: I am not a man yet, but very much female and very much alive, as well as active. I guess when I become a man (knowing my male side), I will sit down in front of the TV all day, as I chew tobacco and drink whiskey, while I hold my remote control daring anyone to touch it, as I scratch myself! ... I am joking, I hope you know ...
PS: Oil anoints, i.e., beautifies, purifies, makes holy, and perfect.
PPS: And you cannot do it yourself. Well I guess you could, but it might not be as powerful if God did it for you :-)
Dear Kate,
your write,"To me, it is to be fully present - and it's wonderful. This came to me not by a master or guru or initiation, but through the presence of nature being revealed to me."
yes, exactly, Kate.
I do not have to say to you have a wonderful trip abroad because through your writing it is clear you will. but I send good wishes anyway, ruth
The One Self is in All
Everything perceived, felt and thought of is all nothing but the Self (You) only.
One Self (You) is the substratum (level lying below another) for the entire universe of names and forms.
There are some everyday phrases, often used thoughtlessly by even scientific men / women of education and understanding. “The conquest of nature” – “we must face reality” – “I came into this world”. All these declare our hallucination (seeming to see something not actually present) that each of us is an independent separate centre, which must confront an external, alien world of things and being.
The Universe around us is considered as alien and separate from us.
This concept that we have come into this world is against all scientific knowledge. We do not come into the world: we come out of it: as trees from earth.
We are not isolated helpless egos packed in separate bodies, but each a unique action of the whole Universe.
One who has awakened to experience the Self in his own bosom as unborn and beginning-less, has realized the Self in him as the Self-in-all. He / She (You) is freed from the delusion that he / she (you) is a limited individual. He / She (You) goes beyond the body-mind-intellect equipment- he /she (you) is no more a limited creature – he / she (you) comes to experience and live the Infinite.
Lots of Love

Dear DK, when I was talking of your surrender in the other HQR thread, the name of King Janak was coming to my mind again and again. I wanted to say, you are King Janak of the present times. But then I let it go thinking people will take it wrongly. Perhaps it came to your mind because of some non-local connection between us, or, it was just the natural thing to follow given what was being said before it.
Anyway, great stories.
And Sant Ajaib Singh has a lovely countenance.
