Saira Mohan - March 31, 2007
If I had one wish, it would be for everyone (in the world) to read this hot-off-the-press book prior to the 2008 Presidential election. Second Chance: Three Presidents and the Crisis of American Superpower ...
Author Zbigniew Brzezinski, of many qualified opinions out there, is for me probably the most experienced and sustinct in his interpretation of the feelings many global-minded Americans must be experiencing...that things are currently not-at-all well with the stature, influence, or power of the United States. Admittedly, I did not understand how dangerous Bush II has been to America's national security and overall future until now. I mean, I knew that things were bad (as does any fan of Bill Maher)...but I didn't have the comprehensive framing of the issues from someone as asteemed as Brzezinski. In short, the book was a deep education for me...an education from one of the very most qualified people around to espouse just opinions in the first place.
In short, you will comprehensively and deeply understand the reasons and meaning behind his last words of the book, that if the American people do not pick the right president in 2008, there will be no third chance for America.

I also think if Jesus were to come back he would be someone like Bill Maher.
derek
Yeah, I could see Jesus hanging out at the playboy mansion drunk on good whiskey and telling the bread into wine story over and over.
I think I'm going to have to pass on this book, for now. I have so many. It's not just because I don't feel like highlighting a bunch of bullshit. I listen to Imus. That's about all I could take of that.
Does Brzezinski touch on how Bush II is called the worst President since Jimmy Carter?
Does he mention how while Carter was managing the White House tennis schedual Pot Pol was managing the killing fields?
How ironic. Brzezinski?
Good lord.
Maybe he could help the british right now with their Iranian hostage problem.
that name has such a polish ring to it..
Saira, I'll read it in the morning,
Right now, I'm charming a turkish princess,
sure could use your book right now, but,
in the meanwhile, I'm mailing her a law of love,
a day, and a song for a soundtrack,
she's soo cute, i'll let you know, if i can change a 27 year old, oohh.. i'll post some pictures,
maybe,
ltz,
love, passion
I suspect that the president for 2008 may not yet be known by the people but will rise from no where as an unknown. Many things will happen between now and then including a further shift in consciouness and awareness. All the candidates both Rep and Dem except for maybe Obama Barack are part of the current political establishment and machine. Although there appears to be two parties they really are both controlled by the same influences, and money still makes the world go around. For decades the blame shifts back and forth but nothing much changes no matter which party holds the reigns.
Presidential elections seem more to be a big production creating the illusion and as long as they can keep the people evenly divided a small number can determine the presidential outcome.
The people of the United States need to become the major influence, yet to do that they must collaberate and become informed and cannot be divided amongst themselves but must integrate their different perspectives creating a balanced effort.
Perhaps the next president will be the one that supports universal self government.
Richard.
Hey, I'm all for the spontanious combustion formation of this new super counscious president, but have you, say, been in a conveince store lately. Look at the magazine rack. Those things are there because they sell. All those convenince stores you see in your travels, they all stay in buisness (not to mention the churches).
People I know, I mean everyone I work with, who are common people, the most they get into any political discussion is give a summary of what they saw on the Today show. The biggest debate is maybe what's better, the Today Show or Good Morning America, then it's back to the Family Guy or the Final Four. All those people vote.
This political situation isn't going to change in time for the next election.
The best thing that may happen is this Unity '08 party. I hope it works and indeed creates a 3rd choice this election (even though it's probably more likely to split the Republicians this time, whom I think are the lesser of two morons). I hope it works so well that it becomes a useful in future senate and congressional races.
And one of the best things that can be done is to get grass roots efforts going in your STATE governments. I think for the little guy the state level is the place to go. Nobody ever pays attention to what's going on in the state. That would be the place to start some positive arm twisting. American companies are building solar plants in germany and japan, for example. Why isn't your state trying to get them? (I don't know your state. I'm speaking in general terms).
We also need some Edisions. 10000 trys before he got the light bulb down.
Or, it could be that the government by the people and for the people has just had it's run.

"if the American people do not pick the right president in 2008, there will be no third chance for America."
May I ask who is the RIGHT PRESIDENT among the probable candidates?
Certainly American people can't risk Obama or Hillery or Edwards.
May be Giuliani or McCain?

Time for Science Education:
Major new scientific discovery!
The discovery of the heaviest element yet known to science.
A major research institution has recently announced the discovery of the heaviest element yet known to science.
The new element has been named "Governmentium."
Governmentium has 1 neutron, 12 assistant neutrons, 75 deputy neutrons, and 11 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 312.
These particles are held together by forces called M0rons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of Lepton-like particles called peons.
Since Governmentium has no electrons, it is inert. However, it can be detected, as it impedes every reaction with which it comes into contact.
A minute amount of Governmentium causes 1 reaction to take over 4 days to complete, when it would normally take less than a second.
GOVERNMENTIUM has a normal 1/2-life of 4 years; it does not decay, but instead undergoes a reorganization in which a portion of the assistant neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange places.
In fact, Governmentium's mass will actually increase over time, since each reorganization will cause more m0rons to become Neutrons, forming isodopes.
This characteristic of m0ron-promotion leads some scientists to believe that Governmentium is formed whenever m0rons reach a certain quantity in concentration. This hypothetical quantity is referred to as "Critical Morass!"
When catalyzed with money, Governmentium becomes Administratium-an element which radiates just as much energy, since it has 1/2 as many peons but twice as many morons.
Dear Saira, thanks for your post - Brzezinski does offer a fresh perspective on current affairs from the failed neo-con thinking. I have noticed he has been booked lately on several serious news programs also. US influence has defintely been degraded by the jingos and their toddler-like tantrums both at home and abroad. Let's all work together to give them some quiet time.
Kudos also going out to derek and yogi-one. I'm sure you're both familiar with the history of Rudolph Hess and the Brownshirts, who in the days of the Weimar Republic occupied themselves by attending the public meetings of nazi opposition groups for the purpose of heckling speakers, picking fist-fights and otherwise instigating disruptions in order to prevent any free speech. You may also recall one of Hitler's first moves after being named Chancellor was to arrest Hess and his loyal henchmen and pack them off to Bergen-Belsen.
Hi Squid,
I lived in Berlin as a child in the early 70s. Rudolph Hess was an old man and he was the only occcupant of the prison which they kept him in there. I have also visited the bridge where the spy trade was made for the U2 pilot Francis Gary Powers, saw a whole bunch of places where people died on the wall ( not just Checkpoint Charlie) and other sites around town connected to WWII and the Cold War.
I got a good dose of WWII Europe History and Cold War History. My father was an infantryman in France and Germany in WWII.
WWII was supposed to the the "war to end all wars" and the horrors of WWII are what inspired the Geneva Coinventions and the Nuremberg Principles, which ban torture and declare that even heads of state can be held responsible for war crimes, among setting other precedents for humane treatment even during wartime.
Needless to say, with that background I am shocked and sad that within 60 years, the most powerful politicians in this country want to dismantle all those hard won realizations and create an even more disastrous World War.
David - that Governmentium thing was hiularious! Thanks!
Bobby - Brezinski is at best a partial source. He himself has had his fingers in all kinds of covert pots during his long career. A master politician, and one who has enjoyed the highest security clearances throughout most of his career. He probably knows hundreds of dirty secrets that the public will never see. He's not exactly an unbiased source either, of course.
Nevertheless, if his book is helping Saira and others to start thinking more critically about politics in this world, then that's good thing.
Sorry Squid I am not a historian. I have never heard of Rudolf Hess, or how it applies to me. Yo
