It'll take 22.5 hours – not counting the 10 hour layover in London – to get to Swaziland. That's a lot of air miles. But the point of the trip is to lessen the distance between (RED) shoppers around the world and the (RED) shareholders in Africa. Like most businesses, (RED) exists to generate returns and create value. Our dividends are a bit non-traditional, however, as we measure them in number of "lives saved."
I fly to Swaziland today to meet some of the moms and kids that have been saved since inspired, empowered people started purchasing (RED) items from our brand partners – Gap, Motorola, Converse, Emporio Armani, Apple, and American Express – generating $25 million for the Global Fund to invest in HIV/AIDS programs in Africa. We may only have launched last year, but already (RED) shoppers have helped make us one of the top 15 contributors to the Global Fund. And 100% of (RED) funds go directly into the field to activate efforts that represent the best performing and neediest programs in the Global Fund's portfolio.
Swaziland was chosen as the second country, after Rwanda, to receive a (RED) grant through the Global Fund. With a population of 1.1 million, Swaziland's HIV prevalence is 33 percent, and life expectency is 42. Among pregnant women, HIV prevalence is at 39 percent. More than 70,000 children have been orphaned by this treatable, preventable disease. These data may seem daunting but (RED) consumer power is already making an impact. With an initial disbursement of $5.3 million, (RED) funding has already provided the medicine needed to keep 17,000 people with HIV/AIDS alive, in addition to providing the medicine to ensure that the children of HIV positive moms are born healty, and providing support for over 59,000 vulnerable children.
But numbers only tell part of a story…usually the dry part….so over the next week we are going to share the pictures and words and feelings that make the fine connection, which is the poetry of understanding. I want to bring each and everyone of you with us virtually on this journey because understanding is a two-way street or, maybe a better way to say it, is that understanding is "linked hearts" like the West African Akoma Ntoso symbol featured on some of the (GAP) RED shirts.
We want (RED)'s shareholders in Swaziland to feel connected to the (RED) consumer community, just as we want the (RED) community to feel connected to the people we'll be meeting in Swaziland. We know it's important to "show the money," so all can see that (RED) is working. But showing the money, we hope, will also make clear that these connections are real in a much deeper sense. Central to (RED) is the idea that all participants in the value chain get embraced ( ) – the purchaser, the corporate partner, and those impacted by HIV/AIDS in Africa. This world needs more embraces.
More from the Manzini, after meeting up with my travel companions: Christy Turlington (RED) ambassador; Adele Sulcas from the Global Fund, and Julie Cordua (RED). Nicole Hahn, who was with us on a May '06 trip to Rwanda and Lesotho will also be joining to help us gather this chapter on film. Stay tuned…Christy and I will be posting frequently here as our trip progresses.

Tamsin, I couldn't log on fast enough to THANK YOU for this great news!!!
I had not heard of this, and it is so fantastic, thank you everyone who's working in this creative, inspiring, highly effective way.
I hope you know about the Alliance for a New Humanity (www.anhglobal.org) which connects people, organizations and ideas all over the world. Maybe you would find it a place where you could connect, cooperate and inspire even more.
This is an initiative that will definitely grow and I'll do my best to make it known. My very best wishes and a big thank you!
Love,
aurora
Dear Tamsin,
I think that is great that you have collected this money with the RED system. We can now use it to actually implement the solution to the spread of HIV. What we can apparently do is eliminate females as carriers the quickest most cost efficient way to test it as 100% sure solution is to simply try it out on a group of individuals or a whole community. This solution has multiple benefits (creating very healthy disease resistant individuals) especially if we include substance E. So there is no reason why we shouldn’t try it continent wide. Not only will it help transmission it could very well help those with the virus to over come it. I think is will be more cost effect then the current drug approaches for treatment or may work in conjunction with them compounding the beneficial effects.
I am also writing it here in this public forum, to present it as known public knowledge, and offer it to the world as a low cost solution, so that it cannot be patented and someone will not create a monopoly.
Everyone is claiming to want to end the HIV/AIDS and we are spending all this money, some of it wasted, so let’s go ahead and execute the solution as quickly as possible. I am sure you can play a crucial role in the actual implementation, since I have come up with the plan someone needs help fund and execute it.
The cost is about $30.00 per month per individual (we can just treat women starting out). The cost will actually be offset and could be considered FREE. This is because it eliminates all the costs associated with the HIV epidemic and other diseases. This cost can further be lowered if we can get a bulk commitment to do say a million people. Which might bring it down to say $15.00 per month.
So this HIV solution is ready to implement, send me a check and I will ship the solution to Africa.
I will describe the solution in detail in my next post.
Solution to HIV transmission.
Executive summary:
(Includes the holistic science perspective)
In order for HIV to be transmitted to women via sexual contact it must somehow breech the barrier of the vaginal (or other mucosal) wall and then be transported to the lymph nodes. What this solution will do is to eliminate the ability of the HIV to enter the body by shutting down it’s two methods of access. A healthy vaginal wall is a barrier to the virus; we can also prevent the body from inadvertently pulling the virus through the healthy barrier, the reason it does this may also be the result of system impairment.
There are two ways the HIV virus can breach the barriers. One method (#1) by which it can get through is where the body actually pulls it in inadvertently. We have a solution for this. The other method and probably the most dominant is (#2) an actual physical breach in the vaginal wall in other words one that is not healthy results in physical breech points. We have a solution for this. The combined solution should eliminate HIV transmission.
What we should understand is everything is working as it should there is no error here other than the poverty and malnutrition we allow.
I will take this moment to express an axiom and meme for replication in the collective consciousness.
"As any part of the body suffers so does the whole of the body, and all cells are nurtured and fed and none are deprived."
I would like to see this perspective realized in relation to humanity as a whole and the human species as a body and the individuals as cells in it.
But we need to use Holistic Science to understand.
It may prove that the inadvertent breech facilitated by the body is by design. If we look at the system from a holistic perspective the mechanism by which the HIV virus is pulled through is also an indicator of compromised immune system cells.
Since life does not seek to destroy itself but instead seeks to multiply itself the continuation of a species is dependant on it’s ability to weed out defective machinery so that it is not replicated. In other words we need healthy VEHICLES FOR CONSCIOUNESS. In nature we find a natural culling process that eliminates defective machinery. Remember consciousness / LIFE is not the machinery. If a species is permitted to replicate it’s defects it threatens the entire species and could lead to extinction. This would eliminate vehicles for consciousness and that is not life’s intention.
What I am saying is that a body (bio unit) has a flag that says “compromised”, “defective” when nature sees this flag it by design terminates the organism so that it cannot replicate.
I will say that again because it applies to aging and accumulated unrepaired free radical damage.
What I am saying is that a body (bio unit) has a flag that says “compromised”, “defective” when nature sees this flag it by design terminates the organism so that it cannot replicate. Which might mean the release of a death (system shutdown) hormone.
Therefore we have controls, however humanity in it’s great lack of wisdom and understanding can interfere with these natural controls in nature leading to it’s extinction. What we can do is take corrective measure to facilitate the repair of the defective vehicles for consciousness and correct the imbalance that has rendered them defective.
I wrote a blog in December 2004 called The Broken Seal HIV /AIDS Cause and solution.
You can click my name and read it.
I now have more detailed information to support the concept, which has been enhanced over the first more primitive premise.
This will follow in the next comment.
The solution to HIV transmission involves providing an advanced broad spectrum nutrient supplement (free form no fillers and binders) and Lactoferrin. The addition of Substance E (discovered by accident) might provide compounded beneficial effects including helping those that already have the virus. Both Lactoferrin and Substance E are powerful immune system booster, modulators.
I have both in my cabinet that I use when I detect that I have encountered a virus or bacteria. As such I never need to use cold medicines, or other drugs to maintain my health and do not get so impaired as to ever be bed ridden. Basically I don’t get sick although I do encounter environmental pathogens and must process them.
The advanced nutrient supplement in conjunction with a good diet eliminates access method #2 the most dominant. The Lactoferrin eliminates access method #1.
Detail Summary:
Sexual transmission of HIV-1 requires the crossing of mucosal tissue, and the precise mechanism of viral transmission across this barrier is poorly understood. The virus can enter through capture by intra-epithelial dendritic cells (DC), which extend processes into the lumenal surface to sample contents and to trap pathogens. In other words this could be defective dendritic cells reaches out through the barrier cells and pulls the virus in. Lactoferrin prevents this binding.
Alternatively, HIV-1 crosses at places of thinning, breaches or lesions caused by poor tissue health, tissue tears, or other (sexually transmitted) diseases. In the latter case, the virus has access to subepithelial dermal DC this is probably the most dominant method of transmission.
One of the cell types first encountered by HIV-1 are intraepithelial and submucosal dendritic cells (DC). DC are professional antigen presenting cells that sample the environment at sites of pathogen entry. Sentinel immature DC develop into mature effector DC upon activation by microorganisms, and migrate to the draining lymph nodes where they stimulate naïve Th cells. HIV-1 has been proposed to make use of this migratory process, being captured by the DC and delivered to the lymph node where the virus is transmitted to CD4+ T cells. The lymph node then becomes the principal site of virus production. DC capture HIV-1 through C-type lectin receptors, of which the best studied example is DC-SIGN (CD209) that mediates HIV-1 internalization such that the virus remains infectious for several days. Subsequent transmission to T cells takes place via an ‘infectious synapse’, but virus that has not been internalized can also be transmitted to T cells.
We previously investigated the ability of different subsets of mature DC to mediate HIV-1 transmission. Not all mature DC subsets are equally efficient in transmitting HIV-1 to T cells. A higher ICAM-1 expression on certain DC subsets plays an important role. The ICAM-1-LFA-1 interaction is important for immunological cross talk between DC and T cells, and HIV-1 exploits this process for efficient transmission. Recently we have identified a very potent transmission inhibitor. In a single cycle transmission assay, we screened a large set of proteins from milk and serum for their ability to block HIV-1 transmission by DC. Proteins that were chemically altered to be negatively charged can inhibit transmission; likely because they bind the positively charged envelop protein of HIV-1. Interestingly, bovine Lactoferrin inhibits DC-mediated HIV-1 transmission in its native form. This suggests a more specific mechanism: we found that Lactoferrin binds to DC-SIGN, thus preventing HIV-1 capture and subsequent transmission to T cells. Interestingly, bovine LF is a much more efficient inhibitor of transmission than human LF. Since LF is non-toxic and easy to purify in large quantities from cow milk, it forms an interesting candidate microbicide against HIV-1.
Like I said we have the solution, and it is ready to ship.
I will tell you more about substance E later... it may allow those that can afford it the ability to survive global pandemics. Of course we could provide it to everyone, humanity has only artificial limits in this regard. However we will need to manage the effects on the economy as revenue flows derived from disease dry up.
If anyone wants to know more because they need substance E to combat a current health issue, or if you would to engage with me in delivering and testing the solution to HIV transmission. It’s ability to enhance the bodies ability to destroy cancer cells is worth mention.
