Gotham Chopra - May 17, 2007
FOR EXAMPLE:
1) A LOT OF TIME I JUST "BE" IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN. LIKE I STAY ROOTED IN THE PRESENT MOMENT AND AM A REAL HUMAN BEING INSTEAD OF A HUMAN DOING.
2) I TOTALLY MEDITATE A COUPLE OF TIMES A DAY. IT'S LIKE MY DRUG.
3) I EXERCISE REGULARLY - I MEAN EVERY DAY IN FACT.
4) I HAVE THE HEALTHIEST DIET AND AM VERY VEGAN.
5) I AM INFINITELY FLEXIBLE AND VERY MILD TEMPERED ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO SPORTS.
6) THE THOUGHT OF ALCOHOL DISGUSTS ME AND I SWEAR I'VE NEVER SMOKED.
7) I AM MAJORLY CURIOUS AND LOVE MEETING NEW PEOPLE AND LEARNING ABOUT NEW THINGS.
8) BEING HONEST IS THE ONLY WAY I KNOW HOW TO COMMUNICATE.
9) I FEEL VERY DEEPLY.
10) EVERYONE LOVES ME.
11) I NEVER LIE - WELL, EXCEPT FOR A FEW OF THE POINTS I JUST LISTED.

Buddha:
"What is the use of platted hair, O fool! what of the raiment of goat-skins? Within thee there is ravening, but the outside thou makest clean. The man who wears dirty raiments, who is emaciated and covered with veins, who lives alone in the forest, and meditates, him I call indeed a Brâhmana.
I do not call a man a Brâhmana because of his origin or of his mother. He is indeed arrogant, and he is wealthy: but the poor, who is free from all attachments, him I call indeed a Brâhmana."

Hypocrisy - appearing righteous but actually being full of wickedness, metaphorically like whitewashed tombs, beautiful on the outside, but full of dead men's bones. (Mat. 27-28)

Allah:
"And of mankind are some who say, 'We believe in God and the Last Day,' when they believe not. They think to beguile God and those who believe, and they beguile none save themselves; but they perceive not. In their hearts is a disease, and God increases their disease. A painful doom is theirs because they lie. And when it is said to them, 'Make not mischief on the earth,' they say, 'We are only peacemakers.' Behold they are indeed the mischief-makers but they perceive not."

Munāfiq is an Islamic Arabic term used to describe a religious hypocrite, who outwardly practices Islam, while inwardly concealing his disbelief (kufr), perhaps even unknowingly.
"When the hypocrites come to thee, they say, 'We bear witness that thou art indeed the Apostle of God.' Yea, God knoweth that thou art indeed His Apostle, and God beareth witness that the hypocrites are indeed liars." - (Qur'an 63:1).

V
The hypocrite does not pay the price of commitment to the religious life and hence does not reap its spiritual benefits; he remains at a low state. Furthermore, when hypocrites rise to high position, they set a bad example for ordinary believers and bring religion itself into disrepute.

With hearts impure and faculties false.
As one part of impurity they wash, twice more freshly stick to them.

Many are the gurus who are proficient to the utmost in Vedas and Shastras; but rare is the guru who has attained to the supreme Truth.
Many are the gurus on earth who give what is other than the Self; but rare is the guru who brings to light the Atman.
Many are the gurus who rob the disciple of his wealth; but rare is the guru who removes the disciple's afflictions.
Many are they who are given to the discipline and conduct according to caste, stage, and family; but he who is devoid of all volition is a guru rare to find.
He is the guru by whose very contact there flows the supreme bliss; the intelligent man shall choose such a one as the guru and no other.

I will go with sex as it is tangible unlike the unconditional, universal love, Self and Consciousness.
AMEN!

Dear Gautham, just when I think/feel; you know, one of them moments you need to meditate and can't achieve the bliss; or, one of those days you stub your little toe 3 times in one day? Well, having had 100 years of them kind of days, packed into my fewer years of existance(that is, if I exist at all--that is the question)smile(well, you come alonge and made me do it....
you made me smile
thankyou for sharing your cunning wit and charm, oh so spiritual One(of me, him, her, etc.)wink(
#13-but, Hyp!!
what do you do then, when you are 80, can't DO sex no mo?
what you gonna hold onto? flesh is the deception of human beings; it is there, but; it will not comfort you, when it is no longer yours to use(wink)
but, a belief in something higher/better, purer than ourselves; is perhaps our only alternative to our ego-smaller, selves?
my above comment was said of course, with a giggle; and not a confrontation; on the battle of spirituality versus sex as a comfort-factor, in our human psyche.
I hope it is taken with a grain of salt, and some wicked spiritual humour
(somebody has to try and outdo Gautham's wicked spiritual humour from time to time, right?
)giggle(
"Hypocrisy is often utilized intentionally as a form of sarcastic humor, not only in film and television, but among the population. Of course, there is a distinct boundary between humorous hypocrisy and what can be interpreted as serious hypocrisy."
and of course, hypocrisy lays in the heart of the bearer, right Hyp?
"what do you do then, when you are 80, can't DO sex no mo?"
North I will then find solace in playing chess, or trying to unravel the mysteries of nature in my head rather than reading my Bible or imagining my Afterlife in Heaven.
or rather I should have said:
"hypocricy lay in the perception of the receiver; not necessarily the projectionist."
b/c I said what I said, with humour--how it is interpreted; is up to he/she whom might read it
I have no power in your mind
nah; it isn't all about that, Hyp;
it is all about achieving internal peace with oneself; to find solace in self-forgiveness; to achieve an uncanny ability--to blank the mind of stress, worry; is to add to the inheritence of our own power within
I personally, don't ponder my golden years; I have no yearning to live so long; I live in the moment to--BE it then peaceful, or emotional-torn; IS my only power; I NEED no book, nor guru; to tell me, or show me these things within me, which are internal and eternal self-forces of our nature.
But, I DO like reading Deepak's books; he's one organised author on the art, of non-thought even with to-do organization skills, to achieve it!!
And So It Is.
Seriousness is good thing, but after the main course of food for thought, maybe even as an appetiser
A good hearted laugh can be satisfying and yummy too!!(Even tongue in cheek laughter)
Now what's for desert?
North, yes and no, hypocrisy lies in 'beliefs vs. actions', and not in subjective perceptions.
'cmon Bonnie; we thought YOU were bringing dessert!!
geez...WE gotta do everything 'round here?
(((giggles))))
argumentative, Hyp--hypocrisy has nothing to do with belief of religion or spirituality; it has to do with the character of the person
example:
A man chastises his son, for stealing a candy at the store; yet, the son sees his father do the same thing, in business dealings with people
that, is hypocrisy
Re. 22
Well, North that was my personal take on what I at 80 might do and what I will definitely not to do.
You might want to die your own way. I will die like Sigmund Freud, a relentless seeker to the very end.
"argumentative, Hyp--hypocrisy has nothing to do with belief of religion or spirituality; it has to do with the character of the person"
I disagree. You view of hypocrisy is narrow. I am not going to be argumentative in the narrow sense.
I will die with no thoughts; and in my sleep
but, this does not construe;
I am not a mind-adventuress, just because I believe in the art of mind-control
WEBSTER'S NEW UNIVERSAL UNABRIDGED DICTIONARY

hypocrite:
1. a person who pretends to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs, principles, etc., that he or she does not actually possess, esp. a person whose actions belie stated beliefs.
2. a person who feigns some desirable or publicly approved attitude, esp. one whose private life, opinions, or statements belie his or her public statements.
Yeah ... that's what I was thinking when I got to #11! ... like, no way ... can't be.
Enjoyed your post Gotham. You had me worried for a moment ;-) But really, are those things you wish for? "Better be careful what you wish for or you might just get it." - I heard your dad say something like that at one of his lectures a few years back. And I was wishing for something, if not many things.

Hyp; Websters can only categorise a persons character; not own the description as if it's gospel truth or something.
It is a perceptionary meaning; which is accepted by a group of like-minded believers, then scripted in books, to categorise words for communication.
hypocrisy to me, is definately more a despription of charactar and perhaps personality or learned behaviour via childhood
webesters does nothing for making me believe hypocrisy has anything to do with religion or spirituality--
I stick to my belief it is a character-building, and has nothing to do with the institution of religion
At the point of death human thought ceases. Everyone dies that way.
"I stick to my belief it is a character-building, and has nothing to do with the institution of religion"
Webster or anyone else not is going to stop you from believing what you want to believe.
I might believe that Spirituality has nothing to do with God. But not all will agree with me.
hypocrite:
a person whose actions contradict their stated or internal beliefs.
beliefs can be spiritual beliefs or religious beliefs.
Types of Hypocrites
Honest External hypocrites: Their stated beliefs contradict their actions. However, their stated beliefs are consistent with their actual internal beliefs. Therefore they are also honest internal hypocrites. They have strong convictions but do not always follow through. Causes for this type of hypocrisy will be discussed later.
Dishonest External hypocrites: Their stated beliefs contradict their actions and their stated beliefs are not consistent with their actual beliefs. They often have weak convictions, and it is possible for them to be non-hypocritical on an internal level.
Honest internal hypocrites: Their internal beliefs contradict their actions. Their internal beliefs remain constant despite their contradicting actions. They are honest with themselves, and strive not to conform their beliefs around their own desires, actions, or imperfections.
Dishonest internal hypocrites: stated beliefs are consistent with actions but actual internal beliefs are not. They are often people pleasers with weak convictions.
http://www.hardcoretruth.com/Hypocrisy/
#36; I plan on having no thought though Hyp; moments, hours, days and up to years, before my internal clock stops; this will be my comforting factor(smile)
What causes one to be an honest hypocrite?
So far, I have narrowed it down to three general factors:
1. Uncertainty of Beliefs: If you are not 100% certain in what you believe, then your actions are not likely to be consistent with your beliefs 100% of the time. A conservative interpreter of reality is seldom 100% certain about anything. This uncertainty can cause one to be hypocritical at times.
2. Carnal Desires: These are inherent human desires that often cause one to act on what the flesh desires, rather than what one believes to be the right action.
3. The difficulty level of the belief system: If one's belief standards of right and wrong are higher than what is humanly possible, then their actions are obviously not going to be consistent with their beliefs.
http://www.hardcoretruth.com/Hypocrisy/
"I plan on having no thought though Hyp; moments, hours, days and up to years, before my internal clock stops; this will be my comforting factor(smile)"
I think you should start it right away North. Forget about the quality of thoughts, you are indeed thinking.
#34 Bonnie-you got it; loving dumplings enroute
currently, I am being a fool, and munching on not one; but TWO soft tortila wraps, with just a little peanut butter and raspberry jam
(thankyou mother nature!!)
as I had a terribly wicked fattening SMALL(too small) wedge of my Mom's homebaked cherry pie for dinner instead of dinner AND cherry pie--I HAD to choose
(sombody has to watch my figure--nobody else will!)
And I bet you will be thinking till the day your brain ceases to enable thinking anymore.
#42--ha ha ha Hyp!! of course I am thinking though; I am talking with you(OR maybe I think I am?)
Shame on someone ... another post of mine removed!
:-)
#44-that could very well BE; Hyp!
in-deed;
though it is not my intention
to the universe, I am but a toddler amongst it
how can I expect myself to achieve "any thing" which is not yet mine, to aquire?
you thinking you think but not actually thinking is a thinking too.
You cannot deny that North. That is the difference between having spiritual beliefs and actually implementing them. It is not easy being spiritual. As Gotham Chopra humorously indicated.
#48 - I deny nothing, as re-iterate; that I am a toddeler amongst the stars, and as such, cannot deny that, which is not yet in my path to BE aware, or non-aware of
I believe you, too
and Gautham
and Deepak
but, non-thinking IS thinkging too? I am confused by that, Hyp?
You "thinking" that "I am not thinking" is thinking!
hmmm, it is like something isn't clicking; and yet, I "understand"
eeek, did I just take a giant leap, for my inner-North?
Some people are more aware some are less aware. Very few may be totally aware.
I think it is unfair to compare the awareness levels of Deepak Chopra, Gotham Chopra and North.
well, the comparison was in jest; not in facts(obviously)
Dear Hypocrite: Your classification of types of hypocrites was interesting. Did you make it up now? Because, you've studied this topic deeply, I thought I could ask you some questions.
If gotham is frank about who he is and who he is not and says it openly: then He is not a hypocrite. Correct? But if he does all those things and then pretends he doesn't and is nice then he is. no?
The other one, He is son of Dr. Deepak who is a renowned world famous figure, who teaches Spirituality to the whole world and teaches how to get rid of Dysfunction and how to move into higher consciousness, but if his own children, say Gotham doesn't practice in real life what his father preaches to the world. Then who is a Hypocrite?? What example is Deepak setting when his own son doesn't really follow what he Preaches to the world? Doesn't charity begin at home? Preaching the world to move into higher consciousness, but his own son is in lower planes of existence. Then?
As you seem to have studied this topic deeply, can you explain it please?
thanks.
what is the foundation of perceptionary vision?
well Hyp; was gr8 talking directly with you tonight; but, I have sat too long too; as I cracked my tailbone and pelvis in 3 places 3 wks ago; and well, you can guess my condition presently
Bonnie; no more dumplings for YOU; you ran with the lot o'them!!(silly smiles)
g'night ALL
Ricky,
One thing I want to mention is humor masks hypocrisy.
Also, changing your beliefs to conform to your actions is an adaptive technique to bypass hypocrisy.
So when the beliefs are not clearly stated and remain in a woo woo timeless ageless collective consciousness, it is difficult to say if someone really acts on his beliefs as WE DON't KNOW what their internal beliefs are. We do know some of their stated beliefs. If the stated belifs are in themsleves contradictory, laced in humor etc, they can be multiply interpreted to be anything.
The problem is more with "spirituality" than religion as most religions state the beliefs and what their followers have to practice specifically.
If Gotham Chopra for instance feels that he is a spiritual person he is. Deepak Chopra may feel that his son is spiritual too. At the end of the day it is all the collective consciousness thing and you are spiritual if you feel so. No one can question your actions if your belief system itself is blurry.
It's true in ancient Advaitic traditions for a Guru to set an example. The new age preachers don't preach or teach Advaita anymore(There are exceptions though). When in tricky situation about the contradictions in their statements or actions, they do the Advaita-shuffle.
Hyp: so, you think all the chopras have a blurry system of beliefs, much unclear than that of religion. Apparently, it feels you abhor all of them, but I could be wrong.
Maybe you've seen too much of darkside of Spirituality and little of the bright side of it, hence you speak so about Spirituality. Are you saying there are no good spiritualists?? Who are clear in their head and heart, both!!
Do answer my q specifically, then I can ask you more q's.
But, yes I agree with lot of what you say. Hypocrisy is found in Abundance, no field is an exception. Especially religion and Spirituality, it is filled with it!!!!
Lastly, I didn't get your rationale in the last para. If Osama thinks he is Spiritual, then he is eh?? If Bush and his followers think they are Spiritual, not religious mind you, then they are?
Deepak is quite clear though with what it means to be spiritual, to be in higher consciousness.
One thing I like about Gotham though is, he is not a hypocrite!! He says it openly who he is and who he is not. I think he deserves lot of credit for that one. It's just that it's too difficult to live with the reputation of Chopra's son. It is natural and fair too to see Gotham resemble and follow most of his dad's philo.
thx.
Ricky
"As you seem to have studied this topic deeply, can you explain it please?"
It is late now, will express my specific thoughts later.
North
I been in the kitchen munching, watching the gathering. Left some cake and a few dumplings in the fridge. Help yourself.
See Ya!
:O)
Bonnie
"Are you saying there are no good spiritualists?? Who are clear in their head and heart, both!!"
Not at all. (Ref. 58)
"Lastly, I didn't get your rationale in the last para. If Osama thinks he is Spiritual, then he is eh?? If Bush and his followers think they are Spiritual, not religious mind you, then they are?"
You should have read Osama's spiritual thesis that he wrote long before he attacked 911. Great insights I must say.
Religious people can be spiritual. The Pope is called the spiritual head of Catholics.
Yes, If you follow certain spiritual practices(religious included) you are spiritual.
I think Gotham Chopra might believe that he is spiritual rather than religious. I certainly don't think he considers himself to be an atheist.
In short, if you believe in God and souls, you are spiritual. How you interpret those beliefs and how those beliefs turn into actions is a different matter.
"It is natural and fair too to see Gotham resemble and follow most of his dad's philo."
I am sure he follows Deepaks philosophy in his own way. I don't see a conflict there. You might want to be specific about what Deepak preaches about spirituality and what he or Gotham follow are not follow. For me they are following their new age philosophy.
I will comeback with more thoughts later.
Yes Hyp, we will continue with this later. no problem. I would've liked to see my other friends too ratna and waylay here.
Just as some of your other friends find spiritualist's understanding, logic and rationale screwed up. I must say your understanding of Spirituality overall is Skewed and Screwed up! Both!
Let's adjourn here. back in abt 8-10hrs from now.
nice! I agree. I will be back in about 15 hrs.
How courageous can we be? How far can you go, out of the conditioning system?
The Dalai Lama highly proclaims the possible reality of bad, negative and stupid compassion.
Can it be possible that we are not loving at all must of the time?
Well, me, I do not know how to live with this CAPITAL Love...
This is one of those true or false quizes where as the author indicated there are two (few) items in the list that equal false. Unless of course the author was confused and really meant to say several which is three(3). This is a very common error.
That being said I would answer #4 #5 #6 as false.
I wonder if I got an A on the quiz.
That was all based on the number of cookies one could take if and when someone said take "a few" or "you can have several". I don't know if they have an exact numeric value, like a couple is two. Actually "a few is three", several is four. So there must be one more false answer above.
Anyway I don't know if the standards body ever took on the task of assigning an exact numeric value for a few or several.
I am so infinitely flexible, that I can kiss my own ass.
If I want to feel deeply, I remind myself of where my head should be.
If I pull my finger out of the dike, it will only be wicked if I smell it.
I am so wickedly sweet...
and my honesty lies veiled in a swarm of flies.
Everyone loves me because they wish they could be wicked, too.
It's a dirty job, but One has to do it!
It is in the nature of my spirit
to start in the mud and the muck,
but water me just a little,
and I'll grow horns to high heaven.
Richard
In your 66 &67 ,if you got an A on the quizz, does that mean you really;in fact, of course, flunked? This does sound similar to the "if you tell the truth you lied argument".

Hello Gotham and Everyone,
I was just trying to imagine everyone in Iraq just taking a week off from the doing of hate..for that week, no bombs exploding, no killings...no- your're a freaking sunni or shiite and I am goin make you pay..or whatever..it was declared, mostly becuase everyone is dog tired and hot with all the doing of hate that they just decided to let it BE for a week...ahhhhhhhh, listen...birds...children...laughing...
I remember tring LDS the first time...and sat around with a few friends for about 8 hours...just BEING...wow...we just looked at everything and laughed...it was amazing..LSD could be great for an experience like that..it could also be great for freaking one out so I wouldn't recommend using the drug.....but the there is a lot to be said for the stopping of the doing...and just being...let us face it, with all the doing, all the time...Africa is still sinking in sickness and death...India is still overpopulated...USA is getting to be a Nation of ole Farts...baby boomers(haha)
Maybe instead of the so-called holy days that different religions adhere to, the Universe could start adopting a JUST BE day...JUST be no-one, or JUST BE no-thing, and JUST live in no-where nation for a day...just freaking be for god's sake..everyone! quit all this pucking around.
just be...let it be...
well, number 1 took longer than I thought so I will have to comment on the rest later...

Hooray! Gotham For president!
He has the perfect platform, except for one flaw - numberr 11. It should state, "I never lie."
Then you can show how when you lie, you don't lie. Like our current AG can show how when we torture people, we don't really torture people.
How detainees can be guilty without needing a trial, evidence, or even properly identifying them.
How a transparent system is best maintained by absolute secrecy.
How war is peace.
How God needs you to murder people for Him.
Why using the military to forcibly take oil from other countries is the road to energy independence.
Gotham, you have covered all the points we want to hear.
I'm writing you in for President!
Yogi-One for Vice-President!! I'll be the first Canadian woman to be elected into the Senate as home security "whatever."
Every being on earth will be given 1 million dollars from George Bush's personal amassed fortune, FROM the rape and pillaging of innocent countries.........!
I will personally FREE the reknowned Black Panthers, from their 'SOLITARY CONFINEMENT OF 30+ YEARS!"
I will end torture.
Women will rule.
Men, shall be sub-servant to every woman's desires.(ok, that's a fantasy dream huh?)
Children shall be accorded the most valued commodity on this planet; and henceforth from my elective position, which is to SERVE YOU; I will guarantee every child on earth; precious status.
I will undergo radical physio-therapy which can cure many of my physical disabilities; enroute the road of my freedom; I will take all disabled's with me!!
I will FREE the animals, and make farms and gardens a Sacred thing.
I will,
I will,
I will!
"What say you?"
Leprosy shall be cured!
I will ALLOW the cures for cancer, to be USED!
I will ALLOW lifetime lightbulbs, to be USED!
I will abolish bad things, and have adhering effects of goodness, and aplenty!

"I must say your understanding of Spirituality overall is Skewed and Screwed up! Both!"
Is it my understanding or is it the skewed & screwed spirituality spewed by your beloved gurus?
Buddha is more popular than Shankara(of course "God" is more popular, and has been fully exploited.) So sell Buddha. Copyright his teachings by misrepresenting them with your neo-advaita world view. Buddha taught in the socio-cultural settings of his time and traditions, so the need for reinterpretation for our times. So far Buddhas central teachings are missed by a mark with plain wishful, skewed and screwed presentation.

Strictly speaking Gotham was within the accepted religious guidelines for Indian youth, so from that educational point of view, it is a good introduction to life besides making money or yelling at one's neighbor's dog.
Hi Hyp: I was thinking about this debate/discussion we were planning to have.
You seem to be in an incisive mood today, you will rip apart whatever is presented, I know. Ideally, I would've liked someone like waylay who would be nice and gently yet present his point wonderfully.
I'll try though. I know the end results of such debates though, hence I don't get into it too often. I prefer gentle discussions.
Hyp, generally it goes like this, there two ends to a spectrum. When you're talking about end A and I'm about end B, there they will collide and make little sense. It is like the dark and bright side, as waylay would so nicely understand it. In other words, as they say two sides of the coin. more than 90% of time I've understood the points of critics, incl the biting ones. I agree too, because I've seen the Dark side of human psyche very well. any field.
Being a Spiritualist, I agree with what you so often talk about the dark side of it. but when you say "there are no good spiritualists" then?? It's a blanket statement. no? It is like saying all scientists in the field of science are good and follow the laws of science well. Most of the times it's a mix hyp. Even the field of politics. You will find some good politicians amongst those jackals.
Over to you....
"there are no good spiritualists" then?? It's a blanket statement. no?
Hi Ricky
I clarified this twice in 58 and 62. I don't know why you keep repeating this point.
Lets not talk about good scientists and good spiritualists but true scientists and true spiritualists, or better science and spirituality.
The conflict I see here is that, Science is a tool and is clear in what it says. Spirituality is been bombarded with interpretations and reinterpretations over the ages. It's just that I don't see Deepak Chopra's spiritual contributions as true spirituality. I don't see his science to be true science. So there it is. You may be sentimentally attached to your dear deepak but I am not.
Wayne Dyer, Dalai Lama, Deepak Chopra, Mother Teresa
all put me off.
Deepak Chopra as a scientist is a strict no no.
Ecuse me for butting in on the conversation, but I am just curious why are you including Mother Theresa in #80 Hypocrite
Bonnie
I got your points hyp. Yes, spirituality is not at all like science and it interpretations and reinterpretations, the differences, conflicts amongst themselves, I've seen it all.
For now, I won't dwell much in the field of science and how many true scientists are there. It is absolutely fine to dislike all the people you mentioned, because you are of the conviction that it is Science which can solve the troubles of humanity and not religion or spirituality. Science is great, wonderful. I don't think many deny the great benefits humanity has reaped with science. It is silly to even talk on that. This very communication is all because of Science.
When there is so much anger and hatred towards any particular thing like say Spirituality, it becomes difficult for me to talk about the bright side and its benefits. You perhaps mix it up with religion and think that it is ALL BS!! All is never BS! All scientists are not true scientists who are true to Science, you'll always find scientists who are BS.
If you don't get my perspective well, as I did yours. I would take some rest.
"You perhaps mix it up with religion and think that it is ALL BS!!"
No Ricky, I actually like religion much better than confused spirituality.
"All scientists are not true scientists who are true to Science, you'll always find scientists who are BS."
That is why it is important to have a better public understanding of science. Spirituality is subjective. Science is objective.
The scientists who contribute BS come under pseudo-science. It never becomes part of Science. Science is not the perfect tool but it is the best tool.
The greatest thing about science is that it is self-correcting. It seeks objectivity. You might have conflicts in mathematics when speaking about objectivity, but in science it is self-evident.
I have to go so will give my perspective on Mother Teresa before I hear back. Seems to me that society as a whole thinks of people who are truly isolated by chronic or progressive diseases and are near unto death, starving and hopeless, are nothing but a burden and a drain of resources turn their backs on them and forget them. Only the saintly who can come from love dare tread where she did.
Is that hypocritical? Yes? No? Or is it more saintly to just let them perish? Yes? No?
Bonnie, I will answer you in the words of a dot minded fellow:
"Asking somebody why they don't like something is like asking them why an empty sky doesn't have a bird in it -- cuz no bird came."

BUDDHA: A STORY OF ENLIGHTENMENT
Deepak Chopra - April 30, 2007
Hypocrite
I posted before you did.): The reason I asked that is that it is a moral question. Humans seem to be the only species that tend to save,(what it considers its weakest link) and have been thinking about it lately with the overpopulation ? hanging over us.
I do not yet have an answer for myself.
Bonnie
Hyp you said you actually like religion than confused spirituality.:-) There are lot of people here whose Blood boils at the name of religion, perhaps just like when u hear confused deluded spirituality.
If I've to choose one out of the three or more for the world, yes I would choose Science. You can't teach science when humans grow into adults having to work for livelihood. Ideally, it has to start from the Primary school. Education has to be compulsory for every child, then u can Dream of having a world which most dream of. Do you've Any Idea HOW FAR we're from reaching that stage???
We both can discuss about this for days, how to solve, what needs to do at the base level. Only talk, on paper. On comp chips to be Precise.
I can also talk a lot about the dark side of Fraternity of science. I've been there, gone thru' it. So, I know it first hand. There's lot of Pseudoscience, conflicting science which needs to chaffed before it becomes all clean. Now, it is going on for too long and I can assure you it will go on in future too. Your Idea of Science being a panacea is the same as that of most Spiritualists.
Man.. I wish meditation was like a drug to me... Its more like a pill, I forget to take it every now and then
ALL global-religions seem to dictate that women and children are the weakest link; sub-servants to men; which is so absurd, considering women are the life-sources of the human species;
so, these forms of religion; pretty much discount religion as a "whole" truth; albeit fragmented, to suit the "perception" of the interpreters whom wrote the ancient "age of reason" texts of all religeous forms.
IN recent global events; humans seem to have lost their senses of reasoning; and revert to ancient killing systems to sustain their "beliefs."
So, do we keep these ancient texts and beliefs, or do we shed them ALL, once and for all, forming a newer, modern alliance which suit the needs of all of us, as a global, united family.
Being a woman, I for ONE< am tired of being a political-pawning rug.

Almost There?
You've been working pretty hard on your self for a long time now.
All of those self-help books are beginning to pay off.
You've almost forgiven those people that molested you.....They were just doing the best they could after all.
Most of the addictions have pulled back.....well.......there are a few stubborn ones that still raise their heads.......but they are probably hard wired.
You're eating better now....and exercising a little.
Stopped smoking and eating red meat..........
It's probably a good thing to develop a plan for when you finally reach perfection.
I mean.........how are you going to relate to all the rest of us poor sops?........Do you think you can still blend in?
Are you going to be safe?......Do you think that we will be able to accept your perfection?
