An Experience (Part I)

Saira Mohan - June 28, 2007

Endless sets of low-lying, picked-over thorny bushes transversed in between and throughout this unusually lush and textured vegetation—the beauty of which, admittedly, is a bit difficult for me to describe...

The sun was finally ready to set amidst the varied moments of thundering storms, which passed quickly. And in doing so, affected the natural sunlight around me in such a way that made it seem like both early morning and late afternoon at the very same time. To look North, South, East, and West was to gaze at an entirely different mood altogether...like different postcards. One was with the warmest of the sunsetting colors, while another was bathed in a tone both foreboding and inviting simultaneously. My kind of thing.

Making my way in the warm direction, I came across a picture...an image that will remain clear in my mind for a long, long time: Scores of birds' nests resting on the most solid and beautiful tree I have ever seen in my life...where rich-warm sunlight seemed to radiate from the earth underneath, creating a golden glow that was bright, warm and remarkably unforgettable as it illuminated the golden grass just surrounding it.

Calmly surprised, and from behind the trunk of this tree, an impossibly bright-red shroud worn by a man, appeared in a way that caught my attention right away, leaving me unable to take my eyes off of him notwithstanding the still significant distance (and immense beauty) that lay between us.

Transfixed, I was even more surprised to notice that my ears began to fill with the barely audible sounds of running water -- coming seemingly from nowhere. Perhaps it was a remembrance of the 'sounds-of-flow' near the place that I had found to mediate just a few hours earlier. At any rate, it was the red-shrouded man in the distance that regained my focus and attention.

Just beyond the tree and down an embankment, where I now found the man standing, there was a beautiful yet modest and twisting bank of river (which I realized was where the water sounds I thought I was remembering were coming from.) Not only was I compelled to approach…I did.

As I got closer, he seemed to be standing on one foot. He was armed with a weapon of some sort...a spear. And as I got even closer, he lowered his foot to the ground. His jet-black skin was no match for his red, tribal dress...and I still couldn’t make out the details of his face. Closer still and just as I got near, his stern face seem to release...revealing a teeth-full of smile. I knew he was friendly. Everything, including his beautiful yet powerfull masculine face, seemed to come into focus. And just then, he beckoned me to follow him…and I did...

Gee I guess we will just have to let our imaginations run wild now...

Nice anecdote and thanks for sharing those nice pictures, in which country did you take them?

If you have an interest in photography maybe you'd be interested in Flickr. It has millions of proffessional and amateur photographers, you can learn a lot and find inspiration by looking at others' pictures and by the comments you receive on your own pictures.

I recently took up an old interest in photography and joined Flickr about 6 months ago. It's a very positive community, I haven't found anyone spreading any maliciousness there.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of your pictures and to find out what happens next in your story...

In my city, on the main boulevard
A moment between two strong thunder showers
A strange light surrounding the scene appears

Black clouds on the East, South, West and North
It's 19:45 on a summer evening
But yet, everything should have been darkened

No visible presence of the sun at the horizon
The sky says: dark
But I see: bright

Right at the zenith of my head
The scene was elevating the darkness
Mutating a little area in soft-white-cloud

This mysterious-lighthouse was capturing
As a fountain of light
The invisible sun...

Very beautiful and inspiring photos, Saira.

I really like that.

I'd like to be there too, to take some shots and to be shot by the scene.

Don't hesitate to share more.

Aha..... no snakes?

Ed.

Actually, I came inches from a spitting cobra last week. The man I had dinner with that same night, after speaking of my encounter, told me that his friend was spit in the eyes...and that they had to pin his arms down...three men...because he was trying to rips his eyes out from the pain.

Hi Saira,
It would be interesting to know what the symbol of the cobra means to your archetypal consciousness. Being that you were 2 inches from a cobra that meaning residing in your consciousness (with all it's aspects) is staring right at you.
Todd

A regular cobra or the spitting Cobra... ; )

either

Regular cobras give the chills. Spitting cobras make me think of...
...well...

Thanks Saira,
I appreciate your honesty!
Todd

OMG and lol...I am generally in awe of you, Saira.

I guess the snake would be, too. Hence unscathed.

Ed.

Saira it seems as if you have an interesting ability to project your inner universe and take photographs of places and people that mirror the dynamics of your soul.
Todd

Wow, Sarah!

I like the looks of your rapidly rushing quiet place.

I also have a favorite spot on a river.
Far, far away from civilization and man-made objects.
As far as I can get that is, without leaving the state.

If I were sitting there alone,
excepting for warm worms and cold beer,
and a pretty girl like yourself suddenly walked up,
I'd be smiling, too, let me assure you.

No...I wouldn't be stark naked but for a loin cloth.
But I would let ya take my picture. : )

Good job with your descriptions, girl!

Talent...the guys must be lined up.
Perhaps you are taken. Excuse me.

Smile!

Hisssssss<~~~

There is nothing quite like nature...the wild of it all. It must certainly inspire nudity in all. No? It certainly does in me.

Hi Saira,
there is nothing like nature ... it all it's glory ;-)

and - I love the picture, and your story!

Yo

Hi Saira,

These photographs were amazing. It was like taking a mini vacation from computer work. The quality was beautiful and the picture appeared quickly ... nice, huge, vivid pictures. Awesome.

I've been going to a boardwalk art show for years and to my amazement the first thing I bought was a photograph. They guy really has a gift. Look for Michael Chen on the web. You'll see what I mean.
