Joanie Reisfeld writes about Better BedRest, Inc., a volunteer-driven non-profit organisation
Founded in 1993, Better BedRest, Inc.is an advocacy, public awareness and volunteer-driven non-profit whose purpose is to provide support, resources and information to pregnant women who are prescribed bedrest by their physicians or midwives. Better BedRest shines a light on a growing prenatal problem that affects over 700,000 women in the U.S. each year.
Some of the help you can give a friend or loved one on bedrest is to try and be as creative as possible. Reach out to friends and ask for the help you need, whether it be meals or help with care of children, rides to doctors appts etc.
It's unfortunate that not all moms-to-be are healthy and in the public eye. Pregnancy bedrest is a common but invisible issue in communities across the country and around the globe, If we can help these women de-stress by listening to their concerns and offering them practical information that improves the quality of time spent off their feet, we feel we're ultimately contributing to healthy mothers and healthy babies.
Bedrest is prescribed for complications related to, among others, pre-term labor, cervical problems, vaginal spotting, abdominal surgery, placenta previa, and multiple birth gestation. Bedrest can force otherwise independent women into varying states of dependency, triggering feelings of isolation and guilt, and impacting relationship dynamics between spouses.
You can find Better BedRest Inc on the web www.betterbedrest.org
As Better BedRest celebrates 15 years in 2008, we hope that all people around the world will reach out and help a bedrest mom and her family get through this invisable crisis. Although a temporary situation, all the help can add to a healthy outcome for mother and child.
Sincerely,
Joanie Reisfeld, Founder
Better BedRest, Inc

Thank you all for reading. We have announced our "Purple Pajamas Campaign". Purple is a color of passion, the passion we have for our mission. As we celebrate 15 years we feel that a pregnant mom should be comfortable.
The adorable pajamas are $45 and your payment is a tax deductable donation. If you are interested let me know and I can send a link for you to see them. They have a breast feeding button flap on each shoulder. They have small polka dots and lace and would be great normal pajamas after birth.
Love,
Joanie
