BIG PAPA DOG

Gotham Chopra - June 12, 2007

That's right - I'm gonna be a dad! But here's the thing: I just bought a new XBOX so I could get back into video gaming. I still will plan my days around being able to get home to watch the Red Sox play. And when the doctor

first told me and my wife that she was due in early October, it occurred to me that that was playoff baseball time and circa week 5 of the NFL season. Kids having kids!

Am I really ready for fatherhood? Then again, I always hear people say they need more time to get prepared and that they are not ready. But the way I see it, you just sort of get ready when you need to.

These days my wife and I spend a lot of time discussing the types of parents we want to be. But from looking around at those that I love and admire - my sister and her husband, mu cousins who have kids etc - I can see that as much planning as you can do, you just sort of have to roll with it and make it up in terms of your parenting style as you go along.

Anyway - I hope my son (yeah it's a boy) will grow up in a world that will find itself, if that makes any sense. I'm very grateful he'll only have one year under the Bush regime and am hopeful his lame duck status will mitigate the further damage he can do. That's all for now, I'll be blogging about this more but I just wanted to share the good news!

Congratulations Gotham,
Maybe your son will fulfill some of your athletic desires.
Todd

Congratulations Gotham.

Just go with the flow everything happens perfectly.

But you will need to put some attention on the world your son will grow up in, which is probably one of the greatest responsibilities as a parent. Ensuring a world worth living in for your children. But don't forget all children are really your children.

So sweet you are!

Dear Gotham,
What joy for you and Candice!

Blessings and love to you both, and a precious son to come into this world.

Congratulations (and to the grandparents and Mallika - there is lots of joy - and oh,my now is your turn at parenting ;)

with love,
~ Kate

As we say in our hood " Mazal Tov".

I knew somehow you would weave the Bush regime in your little blog about parenting, all I can say is best wishes and if you think the world's problems will be solved when Bush leaves the White House, well, I guess that's the kid in you.

Watch out for the M's and Angels this year Gotham!

Cheers,

Steve

Go Red Birds!
Again! again!

Clearly the new arrival books ahead and knows how to make an entrance. Did you expect him to miss the playoffs? (And you think you are going to be in charge???) Congratulations. :)

congratulations, Gotham!

Congratulations to you and your wife, your entire family, and actually, to us all! This is great news, as every new baby is an irresistible reason to change our minds. May your baby be welcome and live a life of beauty, peace and joy!

Congratulations to all in your family.May it be a celebration of Life!

Hello Gotham and Everyone,

WOW! Congrats to you and Candice! A very happy and exciting announcement...for sure...a bundle of joy and more!

have a wonder-full day, ruth

Congratulations to you and your wife, as well as your family!

Love,
Char

Well, this is a great blessing! As a professional journalist, many of my pieces seemed like my babies to me. But man o man, as soon as I became a parent, absolutely nothing compared to it in the whole wide world.

As soon as you get to hold your baby, there is this wave of gratitude that washes over you. You realize instantly how much your parents have done for you and then you just begin to wonder/realize how much must God really love His/Her children.

I have to warn you Gotham, that Parenting is often a lot of boring, hard work. So, pls don't turn into one of those Boring Indian men I'm writing about on my blog, "Monsoon Masala". I also had some hilarious experiences during my pregnancy involving Hooters and Ginger Tea. I'm taking the liberty of posting the link here:

Best Wishes again to you and your family! I can't wait to hear what name you pick!

Congratulations, Gotham. What great news!

I agree. We figure out parenting as we go along. Don't worry, no matter what types of decisions you make there are no shortage of people who will tell you that you have it all wrong. I'm sure that you and your wife will rise to the occassion with flying colors.

Love, Kristin

Congratulations, Gautham and Candice!! Also, extending congrats to the proud grandparents to-be on both yours and Candace's side of the fams!! Exciting times ahead Gautham... soon, you'll be tossing a ball to the lad...yup, it goes that fast!

Luv to you both,
North

Congratulations Gotham! I think you'll make a great dad, but I hope you don't have to agonize too much in choosing between baby and the games. M:)

Congratulation Gotham!

Your own baby, from your blood, in Gotham land. Nothing compare to that, even if your are not ready.

Be on the ground, for the first ceremony. She will be running, she will kick it, you will catch it and he will be safe! That's the most memorial event that can occur in your life.

Surf on this new feeling. Wait and see how far your imagination is so little in front of this simple and amazing moments...

Congratulations!!

Aren't you 30+ now.. u still feel ur not ready for fatherhood?.. I guess age doesn't matter.. I'm 24 right now and come to think of it even I might not feel ready at 30 to have kids

but oh well.. every phase in life must have its own fun .. right?
