Non-locality of Human Mind - Beyond Biology and Paranormal: Part I

Avtar Singh - June 17, 2007

Einstein said that the most incomprehensible thing about the world is that it is comprehensible by the human mind. If the mind were a local phenomenon, how can it comprehend the laws residing in every point of space and moment of time in the vast universe? Certainly, the answer lies in science beyond biology, quantum mysticism, and paranormal explanations. Holistic Relativity explains.

The prevailing view in modern neuroscience is that it is the brain that creates the mind. Biological consciousness is treated as an epiphenomenon of the brain under the assumption that there is nothing other than biological consciousness in the universe. Let us examine this view a little more closely. At the outset, this assumption implies that if all the brains in the universe were to stop functioning, the universe should also cease to exist. This is parallel to the well-known observer’s paradox of quantum mechanics –“Is there a moon if no one is looking at it?” Trying to explain consciousness is itself a phenomenon of the human mind. Furthermore, to say that the brain creates the mind is very much like saying that “Radio creates music” or “TV creates news”.

The biological consciousness is reflected in the well-known phrase – “I feel, therefore I am.” This “I” or the feelings are the filtered perceptions of the individual brain and its formed neural circuits based on evolutionary experiences. Thus the biological consciousness has its genesis in the universal consciousness and merely represents its bodily manifestation filtered or adapted thru the circuitry of the individual brain. The biological “I”, the ego or the mind, is merely a reflection of the universal consciousness in the colored or impaired mirror of the experiences of the individual brain. Just as when the radio malfunctions or breaks down the music stops, when the brain malfunctions or breaks down, such as during a coma or death, the mind stops from working. The universal consciousness, however, prevails or exists unaffected by the malfunction of the individual brain, just like the electromagnetic spectrum generated from the radio station remains unaffected by the malfunctioning of the individual radio. This is evidenced by the eternal and non-local presence of the spontaneous (self-existent) universal laws irrespective of the death of the individual brains. For example, the planet Mars still exists along with all the prevailing natural laws irrespective of the potential fact that all its possible living inhabitants with brains/minds in the past might have been vanished due to some natural or accidental causes.

The Templeton prize-wining cosmologist George Ellis states:

“The standard mistake that fundamentalists make is to posit a partial cause as the whole cause. Yes, the neurons are there. That’s a partial cause of what’s going on. What these neuroscientists are missing, though, is the top-down action in the brain, which is the part that gives life its actual meaning. And, if you choose to look from the bottom up, you will never see that meaning…..Now, the physicists tend to miss both the same-level and the top-down view. And, it’s the same with these neuroscientists.”

Since the human mind is an intermediary between the observations (recoded by the brain) and conscious experiences of the physical world, it is imperative to understand the physical basis of the mind for a complete understanding of the nature of consciousness. The famous Princeton physicist Freeman Dyson during an interview with meaningoflife.tv alluded to the evidence of three levels of mind - the human mind, the mind residing at the micro level the atomic subatomic level, and then at the very macro levels the mind of the universe. The manifestations of the way the subatomic or quantum world acts lead one to think that mind is a reasonable way to describe what's going on. Responding to the question – “What are the manifestations of the way the subatomic world acts that leads you to think that mind is a reasonable way to describe what's going under?” Dyson states:

“Well simply that it seems to make choices…. the fact is that you have an atom of uranium; it sits there on the table and then tomorrow it's gone; it's decayed into Thorium plus alpha particles but nobody can predict whether or not that's going to happen today or tomorrow. It may take a billion years. So the atom seems to have a freedom to choose, that's something, which characterizes quantum processes that they seem to just occur spontaneously. We call that spontaneous decay. So it is spontaneous; that to my mind implies that the thing makes a choice. ……So that this freedom that the individual atom has to have…. seems to be an indication of some rudimentary form of mind.”

As suggested above by Freeman Dyson, the two most fundamental aspects of the spontaneous decay of atoms are the spontaneity or the free will without any external cause and the decaying process wherein the fixed stationary mass transforms into the radiative kinetic energy in the form of alpha particles moving close to the speed of light. If thoughts in the human mind can be compared to the quantum particles that can decay at the free will of the person, then such a property of the contemplative mind provides a common or uniform basis for the human mind and the micro-mind suggested by Dyson. Further, since the empty space in the universe is shown by quantum mechanics to be filled with particles that are born and dissolved instantly at their free will, the argument of similarity between the human mind and the micro-mind can be extended to the macro- or the universal mind since they all are dominantly made of particles that can decay or transform to the radiative kinetic energy at free will. In the following discussion, we will elaborate on the universal mind representing the universal consciousness integrating or unifying the three kinds of minds stated by Dyson.

I would like to comment a bit about your statement, "Neuroscientists are missing the top-down action in the brain, which is the part that gives life its actual meaning".

I have read that harmonic vibration is the key to understanding the nature and structure of our Universe. Sound constructs the Universe and music is the way for us to physically hear and experience the essence of God itself. We ourselves are ultimately composed of living, dancing musical waveforms - God's creation. The unseen 'incompressible fluid' of the aether (Cosmic Ocean) or the "spiritual energy" that forms all of our visible universe, can be unequivocally shown to vibrate according to the principles of the Diatonic Scale. This is the eight "pure" tones of the octave.

The Universal Light (aether) is divided into a spectrum of vibrations. Each dimension "density" of light has a corresponding three-dimensional geometry, color and sound. A highly respected physicist, Srinivasa Ramanujan, in his "modular functions" has stated that the number 8 is of penultimate importance in our universe. Pythagoras is credited for having been the one to devise or recognize the eight "pure" tones of the octave, known as the Diatonic Scale.

So, the three levels of mind are all interconnected by these Laws of the Cosmic Mind.

Michael Egnor = Deepak Chopra? You be the judge!

by Orac at Respectful Insolence

"Now that I think of it, I've never seen Deepak Chopra and Michael Egnor together. I've never even seen a photo of the two of them together. After reading Michael Egnor's most recent forays into dualism, I'm now not so sure that I can demonstrate to my satisfaction that they're actually not the same person.

Of course, I could be wrong. After all, Michael Egnor could in reality be Avtar Singh:

"The prevailing view in modern neuroscience is that it is the brain that creates the mind. Biological consciousness is treated as an epiphenomenon of the brain under the assumption that there is nothing other than biological consciousness in the universe...Trying to explain consciousness is itself a phenomenon of the human mind. Furthermore, to say that the brain creates the mind is very much like saying that "Radio creates music" or "TV creates news"."

Note the similarity to Dr. Egnor's whole analogizing the mind to a cell phone. Now that I really think of it, perhaps Michael Egnor, Deepak Chopra, and Avtar Singh are all one in the same person.

It's an unholy Trinity of Woo, I tell ya! Can't you see the resemblance?

I know, I know, they don't look that much alike. But throw off the shackles of materialism and delve into the mysteries of the soul or God (Egnor) or the universal quantum consciousness (Chopra and Singh), and you will see!" scienceblogs.com/insolence

The great civilizations of the past recognized Mind as the foundation of the Universe. They also recognized the importance of sacred geometry as a fundamental of the creative force.
Light, Sound and Geometry are the fundamentals of Creation.

I love the concept of "Sruti" which is a "Universal System of Communication" which means that with the passage of Ages, the sacred messages are available to all who can invoke the messages contained in Vedas, Upanishads and other sacred texts. There awaits true Enlightenment.

Okay, I have read Avtar's excellent post. So that tells me that the Mind, specifically macro, is not God because it changes, and my understanding for what I have read here, as well as in the Bible, and what Deepak says is that God is unchanging. And I think Avtar called that the 0 point that we will never experience without uniting with that God. Sorry for beating this up, but I just cannot seem to fully grasped what God is.

Oh well....still I enjoy thinking about it all, when the occasion arises.

Love, Char

O-O Dear O-O:

#2.
No hasty PREJUDICES and PREMATUE JUDGMENTS PLEASE!! PLEASE!!

What is the RUSH? Do we understand each other? Let us know each other first. May be what I have to say would make sense to you once you have tried and understood it fully.

It is inciting and exciting to slap a hasty label or categorization on a person without knowing, but a conscientious, responsible, and intelligent person like you would refrain from those hasty childish impulses. What is the HURRY?

Einstein’s statement that he would like to know the “Mind of God” and his use of the words - mind and god, do not automatically qualify (except for a deep prejudice) him to be labeled a woo or pseudo-scientist. But this has not stopped some calling him a woo or wacko anyway. His mind of god is no different than the mind of the universe, which he was trying to understand and this post is trying to address.

For your information, the posted material is extracted from the paper – “A New Approach to the Problems of Consciousness & Mind” accepted for presentation at the conference - Toward a Science of Consciousness 2007, Budapest, Hungary, July 23-26, 2007. The acceptance of the paper is based upon a scientific peer review and selection. It is not a shot in the dark alone, as you might have prematurely contrived.

Please do not prematurely or prejudicially judge the subject matter based on selectively nick-picking on a few lines and misinterpreting them to force-fit into your own prejudices without first taking time to read, understand, and asking any questions to clarify the theme of its contents.

Prejudice can only hurt your own case. It is only your own enemy. You may not realize but I may be on your side if you try to fully understand the thrust of my work.

Pleased do not try to kill the baby of our mutual understanding primitively…..try to nurture it to give it a chance to grow.

Love & Regards
Avtar

The thrust of your work" HELLO! what are you talking about!?
FYI, nurturing is a process, the same as evolution...
Lol

Thrusting is good for your health so it must be good for business.

Dear Avtar,

It is unfortunate that the skeptics who make comments on these articles are more interested in attacking the information than they are in trying to understand it. Are they afraid they might learn something that they are unaware of? I cannot understand their anger.

Their comments simply make no sense at all.
