Imperial History of the Middle East

Saira Mohan - July 13, 2007

Who has controlled the Middle East over the course of history? Pretty much everyone. Egyptians, Turks, Jews, Romans, Arabs, Persians, Europeans...the list goes on. Who will control the Middle East today? That is a much bigger question...

Cool, Saira!

At first I thought, "Uh-oh, here we go, 1000 years of history crunched down to 90 secs..."

But it turned out to be actually very good. Then you can research any of the empires further for more info.

The site where they post these maps is very interesting too:
www.mapsofwar.com

There is one thing that was left out in the 20th Century part and that was USA influence.

Although technically not an empire, the USA has launched numerous "destabilization" programs in countries around the world, sponsored coup d'etats in many countries, supported leaders with money, propaganda and munitions who were friendly to our interests in natural resources and other aspects of political power.

I find it ironic that the maps calls the Post WWII period the "Era of Independence" when in reality many ethnicities have lost their independence, or have been slaughtered or marginalized since WWII.

Any representation of the Middle East in the 20th Century that does not deal with American Influence in the region cannot possibly be accurate.

But still it was a good presentation.

hey...this is cool...thank you saira
