The loss of integrity and values in a world renowned broadcaster -- BBC -- has been shocking! Details follow... However, could CNN, Fox, MSNBC, CBC and other global media players be similar or worse...?
Few would disagree with the verdict of John Whittingdale, the Chairman of the All-Party Culture Media and Sport Committee of the House of Commons, UK Parliament, on the revelation that the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) had misrepresented Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in a trailer for a documentary. "Undoubtedly this has been a very serious blow to the honesty, integrity and the reputation of the BBC," he said. "One of its greatest assets is its reputation for truth and honesty and that has been damaged."
The BBC has had to apologise to Her Majesty. The damage was inadvertently caused by the controller of BBC1, Peter Fincham. He told journalists at the channel's autumn launch that the Queen had walked out of a photo-shoot "in a huff", after being asked to remove her "crown" by Anne Liebowitz. Footage appeared to show her walking out, but in fact it had been assembled in the wrong order by the production company RDF Media. Unknown to Fincham, she'd actually been walking in. The timing could hardly have been worse.
The damage to BBC's reputation appears to be much deeper. Some BBC executives are likely to be suspended while reviews are held into fake phone-ins unearthed by another inquiry. All phone-related competitions on BBC TV and radio ceased from midnight on Wednesday, while interactive and online competitions will be taken down as soon as possible. Mark Thomson, Director General of the BBC, has also ordered an independent inquiry into footage that wrongly implied the Queen walked out of a photo session. The BBC Trust said it was "deeply concerned that significant failures of control and compliance within the BBC have compromised the BBC's values of accuracy and honesty."
Earlier on Wednesday, a report by UK media regulator Ofcom said there had been a "systemic failure" in the way TV channels had run premium rate phone services. An inquiry found that broadcasters were "in denial" about their responsibilities to viewers and saw phone-ins as a way to generate revenue. Last week Ofcom fined the BBC GBP 50,000 after their prime children's programme falsified the results of a phone-in competition during a live show.
New BBC Measures include:
. All competitions suspended
. All staff to be trained on safeguarding trust
. Independent inquiry into the Queen documentary
. Commissioning from the Queen documentary production company RDF "paused"
. Some editorial leaders asked to "stand back" from their duties
. Contracts with staff and suppliers revised to emphasise editorial standards
. Promotional materials must meet the same standards
Michael Grade, Chief Executive of ITV (Independent Television), a former Chairman of the BBC, told BBC2's Newsnight that every broadcaster in the UK was affected. He said, "It's partly to do with casualisation of the industry, people on short-term contracts under tremendous strain, tremendous pressure. Competitive pressure is enormous." Mr Grade said there has been too much cutting of corners. "It's desperately important that we restore trust and that the programme-makers get to understand - whether through hard lessons or through training or a combination of both -- that you do not lie to audiences under any circumstances."
Steve Hewlett, a former editor of Panorama and senior ITV executive, said, "Television is more competitive than it has ever been, between all the channels. That leads people to think that they might be out of a job if their programme isn't lively enough. That makes it even more important that broadcasting organisations have the right culture. BBC editorial management relies on people at every level exercising good judgment -- from the researcher right up to the editor and ultimately to the director general. It only works if you have shared judgments, shared assumptions and certain shared standards. And the boss class have to take responsibility for the culture and ethos of the organisations they are running."

We would like to hear from distinguished you to understand how this problem might manifest in other parts of the world.
With love and warm wishes to you and family

Perfect timing DK thanks.
The core issue demonstrated here is that this is a result of "FEAR".
Wisdom, Self realization, and understanding of the true nature of reality would never have us act on fear thoughts, only love thoughts.
Fear results in erroneous judgment.
Spirit does not fear, only ego does.
Nobody on the planet should need to fear, especially children, the exceptions to this are lions, the big hill on a rollercoaster or a scary movie, which is all fun because we all in the back of our minds know there was really nothing to be afraid of including the lion.
Hence we find in the script.
When a lion meets a fearless human on the path it does not attack, because it knows the prey is strong. The lion only attacks the one filled with fear, because it is Ego, and it knows it is weak. The fearless are full of love and spirit and a very difficult adversary.
Which is good for evolution, those hosting spirit are preserved and those that are just a shell of ego are devoured by the lion.
~Infinite Play the Movie
It's all good.
All that said, we need to change the systems to help eliminate fear, in many regards they were designed or influenced by the intent of the ego and out of FEAR.
Systems designed
There is a difference between FEAR and cautionary wisdom where we take steps to reduce the probability of an unwanted experience or effect.
Ego and spirit can reach a harmony through wisdom, coexisting in divine play, and then the lion will lay alongside the lamb in Peace.
Above I did not finish the part about systems designed based on fear are flawed, those designed based on love are flawless.

The media is Mass Weapons of Distraction and this story highlights it. love patty
There needs to be a separation in the media between news, information, and entertainment.
There is a conflict of interest if one is to report honestly on those that pay your bills.
News should be a subscriber based intelligence service.
Entertainment is the place for advertising.
We all know the potential conflict of interest when an entity is reporting on something that can affect their revenue streams or does not align with their preferred fictional storyline that provides some with benefit.
Of course in the end it is all about what the consumer wakes up to demand.
Richard did you make that phone call yet? If you havent, GET BUSY! hehehehhehe = ]

Dear DK,
It is a double-edged sword of broadcasting news and a public wanting information ... and yet not with all elements of truth contained therein. Is news to educate, or to entertain? Is there a profit motive involved?
Can one walk away from all media? Have you been able to? I have not.
Yet, I am learning to see through many things. I can accept some news as true, and yet - I spend time away from the radio and tv - and enjoy Life with my friends and family and being in nature.

Accuracy in news coverage is important but far more important than that is willingness on the parts of main stream networks to cover all items whether certain powers find that unpleasant or not. PBS seems to cover such stories. Occasionally, we will find such revelations on the 60 minutes. But by and large the media is failing here. I think such failure is partially responsible for adventures such as Iraq war. I am not sure what is the primay job of these networks. Perhaps it is simply to entertain with some filtered news here and there.
Tammy,
As you there is a divine timing to these things and a necessary motivation and impulse that arises from the source resulting in action. That could come at any time but has not yet.
Seems my pilot light has gone out needs to be lit, that or I should replace it with one of those igniter switches with a high intensity spark. An infusion of feminine energy as well for a turbo boost.

We have to admit how often we put celebrity's up on a pedestal.
Hollywood stars, sports figures, politicians,
artisans, masters and musicians alike,
we tend to see them all as bigger than life.
Why do we think that anyone should be immune
when we allow no one to be off-limits? Fair game?
Could it be that we think so little of ourselves?

Well now your life can be like a movie with all the excitement, adventure and intrigue, why watch it when you can live it!

BEIJING (Reuters) - Beijing police have detained a television reporter for fabricating an investigative story about steamed buns stuffed with cardboard at a time when China's food safety is under intense international scrutiny.
A report directed by Beijing TV and played on state-run national broadcaster China Central Television last Thursday said an unlicensed snack vendor in eastern Beijing was selling steamed dumplings stuffed with cardboard soaked in caustic soda and seasoned with pork flavoring.
Beijing authorities said investigations had found that an employee surnamed Zi had fabricated the report to garner "higher audience ratings," the China Daily said Thursday.

Richard... very good!
Actually, your thoughts are joining mines. I think, we can dig deeper into these ideas. There are reasons why we are out of the scene of life.
There is a direct link with Deepak's topic: Mind-body consciousness.
Can you see the subtle link?
Hey Jean, you know the new saying, why watch a scene when you can make one? and star in it!
I quit the news cold turkey a couple months ago after learning it increased cortisol levels. It is actually more harmful then smoking. Sex is healthy but they have these abstinence programs, profit from disease right? My mental health has improved substantially, and I have also lost 11 lbs. for real. (okay I started roller blading again). I didn't want to be like the medical researchers and leave out some of the data.
You know they are going to need to show on the bottom of the screen A warning from the surgeon general:: May increase cortisol levels.
Increased cortisol levels results in increase fat storage, so using the scientific method of deduction we know that women who watch the news may be less attractive to men, and vice versa, is there any better reason? who want's to lose there attractiveness watching the news on TV? Both mental and physical.
There is safe news, Google for instance and some other Internet sources.
I have been browsing through the channels come across a news channel and it is like a low frequency burst drops your frequency down, change the channel focus on the divine concept and your back to supernormal which is good because normal people watch TV, normality is the result of watching TV and being conditioned. Genius is an abnormality, or a feature of supernormal powers, so watching TV means no genius because you will suffer from normality.
Normality results in depression as a result of repetition and a lack of new stimulation. So it might be treatable with antidepressants but drugs are not the same as riding a roller coaster or knowing a women in the biblical sense, which must be good if it is in the Bible. There is a similarity between women and roller coasters though you gotta love them both for the ride they give you.
There is that slow ascent up the big hill, the tension mounts as you get closer and closer to the big plunge. Then there it is, your breathless and falling, then it kind of levels out you feel a little safer now, smaller hills, till finally your at a resting stop, and you catch your breath, and get off. Only to get on and off again, and again, and again....
Yours Truly,
I like the way the 'new' Richard talks to us.

What's in the box? You might ask...
I caught wind of what's what.
Pandora is a hot babe!
Hey Keith, I noticed you've had some kind of transformation over the months, tapping into that magical pipeline, I like it. As for me I just write what comes down the pipe, I looked down it once and there was a light at the other end.
Yes, Pandora's box now there is one worth waiting for. Only a few get to come inside, most just get to look. I hear that all that was left inside was HOPE, and it is that which keeps me going. It's what gives that magical wand it's power. No doubt, she is attracted to the all the God like "posts" here, sort of a Shiva worshipping thing.
In Greek mythology, Pandora ("all-gifted") was the first woman. Zeus ordered Hephaestus to create her as part of the punishment of mankind for Prometheus' theft of the secret of fire, and all the gods joined in offering her seductive gifts. Her other name, inscribed ("[ ]nesidora") against her figure on a white-ground kylix in the British Museum, is Anesidora, "she who sends up gifts" [1] According to the myth, Pandora opened a container jar (pithos) releasing all the evils of mankind— greed, vanity, slander, envy, pining— leaving only HOPE inside once she had closed it again.
The myth of Pandora is very old, appears in several distinct versions, and has been interpreted in many ways. In all literary versions, however, the myth is a kind of theodicy, addressing the question of why there is evil in the world. Hesiod, both in his Theogony (briefly, without naming Pandora outright, line 570) and in Works and Days, ca. 700 BC, gives the earliest literary version of the Pandora story.
In modern times, Pandora's "Box" has become a metaphor for the unanticipated and irreversible consequences of decisions. The evidence of the Greek vase-painters reveals another, earlier aspect of Pandora... look it up in Wikipedia
DK, you've scratched a wound here for sure. One of my biggest disappointments in 21st Century America is the way the media has simply dropped any sense of social responsibility like a hot potato.
I'll start with a humorous link that makes the point quite well:
How the news Works, by Tom Tomorrow
http://www.workingforchange.com/comic.cfm?itemid=22437
For more in depth analysis read:
Bill Moyers: Life on the Plantation
http://www.commondreams.org/views07/0118-20.htm
The media had built up a great history of helping Americans, starting with the Thomas Paines and Ben Franklins of Revolutionary America.
In the 20th century, the media helped us come to terms with the robber barons, helped us censure Presidents and politicians who misbehaved. The media's most recent successes were in helping bust the civil rights movement open and exposing the truth of the Vietnam War in the 1960s.
But then something awful happened. Big money and a desire to muzzle the media by powerful politicians started creeping in. Investigative journalism, the bedrock of good TV news started to be seen as too risky and too expensive to support. Big money could be wooed from corporate advertisers by keeping the media controlled and not putting out any news that would undermine the drive for profits no matter what the cost.
And big money could be wooed from politicians by supporting those who were in power, and allowing the media to be used as a propaganda tool.
There are no analogous breakthroughs to the 20th century media in the 21st century. Alternative media on the web and satellite channels has had to carry the investigative journalism about our wars, and expose the truths about our politicians, because the major news networks no longer have the appetite for that responsibility.
I recently posted on IB about my upset with CNN, and noticed by next post was monitored before being posted.
So this is toned down, but my point stands: I'm deeply disappointed and have pretty much lost faith in all the major networks. They don't care about the public, they just want to make money. Propaganda keeps the advertising rolling along from the corporate-political complex, and fart jokes and celebrity chatter keep the semi-educated viewers hooked.
Serious news reporting has been replaced by talking heads whose main job is to make shock-jock style statements of racial prejudice, and show callous attitudes towards minorities, and people who are victims of war, disease, and starvation across the planet.
No investigative journalism is being done by the major networks for fear of upsetting the sources of their money, and a single political viewpoint has dominated the airwaves (a recent study showed that talk shows were at least 90% conservative, while polls show the public is 70% moderate to liberal in our views).
Phil Donahue has related how he was told flat out by his bosses at MSNBC that he MUST have at least a 2-to-1 ration of conservative to liberal viewpoints or else his job would be in question.
And we haven't touched on FOX yet, which actually has network representatives sent to White House briefings to get the daily talking points for their news and commentary shows.
This country is facing a constitutional crises, and where is the media? They are bleating about celebrities' partying habits, and featuring anti-immigrant and pro-war screeds on talk shows.
We have a culture where voices like Bill Moyers, John Dean, and Amy goodman are marginalized while the likes of Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, and Glenn Beck are given a free pass where the press NEVER calls them on the accuracy of prejuducial content of their statements.
Sorry I got a little upset earlier.
But I'm right. Dead on, unchangeably, absolutely right.
We have to fix the media in this country. We need it to start doing its job again to save us from those that the Founding Fathers warned us would try to usurp our Republic.
That time has come, and the press isn't responding.
We're in deep trouble because of that.
Yo Richard
I watched CNN last night to see Tammy and Deepak. It has been quite awhile since I gave up the news monster. To sit through all the crap in between the small amounts of interview was almost not worth it.
It is amazing how repetitive everything is. Same commercials and promos for AC360 over and over again, at hyper speed. There was also a lot of violence shown. I've gotten to where I can't watch the violence any more.
I forgot how accustomed I had become to it.
I'm glad I gave up the beast. I feel like it is one of the most destructive things in our world today.
peace comes from peace, not the media

Totally relate Derek, I watched AC short bit after about those Christians and Government, same ones that killed Hypatia. Boy are they in for a big surprise when they realize that wasn't God they were following, but an imposter.
Pretend for a moment life is like a movie. Imagine for a second that the current administration has committed what some in their minds would consider crimes. Now of course the administration thought what they did was justified. Okay so the administration acting out of fear that everyone wouldn’t understand decides to trigger a police state and take the power away from congress so they would have complete control and could silence any investigation.
Would they allow or trigger a terrorist act if they thought is was the right thing to do to save the country from an imaginary evil that existed only in their minds? A way to keep them from being prosecuted and embarrassed?
I am not saying anything for certain, just talking possibility and probability.
Should not congress be doing something to preempt this? I don’t want my country in a police state and even China should be worried about it.
Maybe you should contact your trusted British counterparts because it is a threat to a Peaceful Kingdom, the prime directive.
You know there is this saying admits your wrongs, but not when it causes damage. So here is the deal. You resign, we forget, and leave justice in the hands of the universe, between you and your God. As you know I am one of those forgiving type guys. Then we go on and make the world a better place because the past cannot be changed it’s only value is the wisdom. Which by the way is what they should teach in history classes so they aren’t so boring.
I am going dancing I think; it is in God’s hands and yours. John Conyers would be the guy to make the arrangements.
But hey that is what happens in the movie.
Dear DK,
Unless we are very aware, this problem unfortunately manifests in most all organizations and within most all of us. My first thought was that it is because we identify with what happens to us and we place such a high value on performance.
I think that the important questions are: In what ways have I acted without awareness and integrity? How am I tempted to manipulate and what is the underlying misperception that I need to address?
Love, Kristin
Richard asks:
"Would they allow or trigger a terrorist act if they thought is was the right thing to do to save the country from an imaginary evil that existed only in their minds? A way to keep them from being prosecuted and embarrassed?"
The short answer is Yes.
I'm off to an appt, but I'll post more on this later. I have posted up a scenario in other places on the web and the other commenters found it quite believable.
For now, I'll leave you with this: one of Hitler's first plots, after being elected in Germany, was to have the Reichstag set on fire. He then blamed "Communists" for the blaze, and this was a major propaganda victory for him, basically allowing him to manipulate the patriotic anger of Germans for his own political ends.
Unfortunately, there's quite a bit of evidence that Dick Cheney has been studying the Fuhrer's playbook.
More later.

News Corp.’s Murdoch “24th Member” of Blair Cabinet
http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=07/07/20/1420219
"Blair’s first day came as newly-released documents showed media magnate Rupert Murdoch had previously unknown extensive access to Blair during his time in office. According to the British Cabinet office, Blair and Murdoch had six telephone discussions over a twenty-month period, all at pivotal moments of Blair’s time as Prime Minister. Three of those conversations were held in the week leading up to the US and British invasion of Iraq in March of 2003 --- including one call on the day before the attack. Blair phoned Murdoch in each of the conversations."
Also this tidbit portending a coming shift in the editorial tone of the Wall Street Journal:
"Dow Board Member Resigns Over Murdoch Bid
Murdoch is currently involved in a controversial bid to buy the Wall Street Journal. The board of parent company Dow Jones has backed the deal, which now awaits final approval from controlling shareholders. On Thursday, Dow board of directors member Dieter von Holtzbrinck announced his resignation over the board’s endorsement of the sale. In a statement, von Holtzbrinck said : “I’m very worried that Dow Jones unique journalistic values will long-term strongly suffer after the proposed sale.”
