Purpose

Arsenio Rodriguez - August 25, 2007

“Purpose presumes a direction and since Existence, being everything and everywhere, cannot have any direction; directions must always be in nothing and lead nowhere. Hence to have a purpose is to create a false goal. Love alone is devoid of all purpose and a spark of Divine Love sets fire to all purposes. The Goal of Life in Creation is to arrive at purposelessness, which is the state of Reality” Meher Baba

Palpitations drum deep inside. There is an upturning of ancient crusts -layered with so much passion- unbeknown to the ubiquitous observer. Yet, they are witnessed by sentience, as a pain about to burst, on account of mysterious rhythms and cycles of Ocean- the ebb and tide that takes you to the same place you have always been.

Life’s purposes are spent like ephemeral fireworks that shine dark in the zenith of our ignorance, and distract our glance from Beauty. That ever present, non-locational Beauty that permeates all, transparently traversing our bodies and ego-minds, becoming through its continuity of possible, expressing through each of our full moons- the only One conscious , the Womb that engulfs all of our passing shows, and rests our turmoil in maternal woos exquisite.

Shy away from any certainty born out of your mind-games, it will only make you believe that you are naked - exposed to your self-appreciation and having worth as a drop, multicolored and witty- which you really are not. You are the Ocean within and without, in the boundless Womb of Being supreme that Is forever protecting, creating, destroying those surface bubbles of air, that for a moment or two give illusory existence to separate drops. It’s just the Oceans’ game of ebb and tide, to tickle Itself infinitely and Be everything It can imagine.

Brilliant night fireflies, daughters of the cyclic mating of sunlight, have been dormant for 700 hundred years, underground within the darkness of our soul. We can sense them now churning, buzzing, crawling, preparing to emerge like cicadas in a hot summer. They are an escape from this flatland of purposes, noble or ignominious, which notwithstanding their nature, are the same lies that we tell each other as we wait for the explosion of light inside. A spark, not-related to any interpretation, or ego point of view, a free dance of fireflies in luminescence, radiating their joy, free of any purpose- religious, patriotic, romantic, economic, whatever. Just a reverie of pure joy, to illuminate these dark caves of mind that we have constructed, to shelter the tender palpitations of Being as it enjoys its creativity, its Beauty, its infinite purposelessness. .

Blessed are those that have no purpose for they are in tune with the Eternal Reality of Existence.

Arsenio,
I love fireflies and on a late summer's night,
just a few years ago, or so
I would watch a hundred dance in the corner of our yard
- and I - longing to catch each one,
if only for a fleeting moment.

I had to touch the glow
the beacon of light,
dazzling my eyes and

shining through
the palms of

my hands

~ Kate

dear North,
Somewhere there is a rainbow
displaying it's magnificient colors
and someone like me
- gazing upon it's beauty -

slowly,
my life's purpose becomes revealed with the colors, and
I discover

it's been there

all along.

Love,
~ Kate

God's answer to and for Open Thread, Arsenio. You rock!

Weave those colours, fly that carpet. We is a-floating on Love's Sweet Song.

Wonderfully put, Kate!!

You are a romantic, just like our IB Poet--Arsenio.

Ahh... to be truly silent and thus with no agenda...

The Masters are silent even when speaking. How is it they do that? I want to say - "My life for their gift of Pure Love!" But part of me is afraid that the Universe may take me up on it and I am still not so sure about that death. How silly of me! And how human. That's okay. Everything is as it should be. Even such silliness.

But the day is coming when we won't be afraid anymore. Our desire to express our Love will overcome all fear. We will experience that such surrender is the way to freedom and giving Love the only lasting joy.

Love, Kristin

HI Arsenio,

I have a question for you, something I have been contemplating. Can we set out to accomplish anything and do so without harming someone?

I have felt that the answer is no and felt very sad about that. None of us can control how others interpret our actions. And none of us can see the complete picture. At least I cannot. This makes me feel so sad. And then, strangely, resolved that things, including myself, are as they should be.

Perhaps you have a poem about such things?

Many Blessings,
Kristin

Humm ... sounds like this guy might be enlightened, but what would I know, as we are but fools in creation - so he says. Me ego likes Me! :-) And when I want to be God, then I will be still - ha!

Love, Char

Thank you Dear Friend. It's almost as though you knew the words that I needed to hear. And then I find myself smiling and saying, "yes...of course." Peace and Love, Melissa

Purpose presumes a direction
No-direction cannot lead to purpose

As day-sky and night-sky
A life circular-movement link both together

Sunny-clear-sharp spirit melting in bright-essence
Focused-separative-night pointing as stars

Multitude-in-rotation
Innocence-flicking-knowledge

Like unknown-winds following mystical-laws
A non-linear-purpose is

Wonderful and dangerous is extreme knowledge
As self-Saint talking, he-she must strike the land...

In that
Everything is complete...

Arsenio, like a Zen koan, that Baba quote points toward the ultimate purpose: to arrive at the Real Goal, which is located where Existence is, which is everywhere. So how do we get there? ... uh, I mean, How do we get Here? Well, it has to be experienced... That means that our true direction, our transcendental Purpose, is to experience a blossoming from Within, to become more & more awake to the Beauty all around, making ourselves ever-more fully Present in the Life-giving warmth of Infinite Consciousness, the Sun within our Hearts, giving eternal Love & timeless Joy.

Having acknowledged that transcendental Purpose within the meditative freedom of purposelessness, I don't think Baba would want us to abandon our everyday life purposes & a keen sense of direction & very worthy goals, but to reclaim them for the divine Purpose, making everything subservient to the timeless warmth of that Beauty, the Source of Joy, eventually blossoming into its fullness, within us all. Meanwhile, life is a challenge & grand adventure... Let's live it as one!

Ocean Breeze
