Gotham Chopra - September 26, 2007

He came a bit early and had his parents a bit unprepared, but then again who can prepare you for the greatest thing in your life?
My wife Candice and I welcomed our first child KRISHAN CHEN XING HUA CHOPRA into the world a week ago today, and as all the cliches attest, our life changed overnight. It's true that no matter what people tell you, there is just no way to predict how your whole POV shifts in that single moment when that being emerges and how no longer are you living for yourself, but your reference point for living suddenly finds a whole new location. All of a sudden, you have a love letter with the planet and he has a name and a little being that every single moment is being imprinted by the world around him. So it becomes your responsibility like never before to do what you can to shape that world.
But enough with the sappy stuff, how about that name? Pretty cool, huh? As my wife and I are both first generation Americans but of Chinese and Indian origin respectively, we really had a lot of bases (and 4 gransparents and 3 great grandparents) to cover. Krishan was actually the name of my late grandfather who we called Daddy, my father's father. Krishan Lal Chopra was a true patriarch of my family and one of the greatest physicians (personal physician to Lord Mount Batten) to grace India in the last century. If my son lives up to half the man of his namesake, I will be VERY proud. Krishan is also of course a variation on Lord Krishna who was always my favorite God amongst the vast pantheon of Indian Gods. When people ask me what does it mean, I say that Krishna is God's guide because in the Bhagavad Gita, it is Lord Krishna who is Lord Arjuna's charioteer and steers his carriage on the battlefield of the Mahabharata. When Arjuna hesitates and feels apprehension about engaging in the war, it is Krishna who comes to his aid and reveals the full miracle that is all life and the planet and Universe that surrounds him. It is Krishna that restores order to the Universe when even the Gods have their existential moments.
Chen Xing Hua was gifted to us by my wife's 90+ grandmother. The Xing Hua part describes a certain type of birch tree that blossoms year round. It adapts to every season - sun, snow, wind or rain, and prospers.
So that's my kid. Part Chinese, part Indian, with an Amercian passport, and a Red Sox fan from day 1. We call him the Master Race, but really he is just who he is and we love him for it.

A song and a wish for Krishan and all our children -Sarah Brightman with Nella Fantasia:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBZJuf82wmE&mode=related&search=
The lyrics in translation:
In my fantasy I see a just world,
Where everyone lives in peace and in honesty.
I dream of spirits that are always free,
Like the clouds that fly,
Full of humanity in the depths of the spirit.
In my fantasy I see a bright world,
Where each night there is less darkness.
I dream of spirits that are always free,
Like the clouds that fly.
In my fantasy exists a warm wind,
That breathes into the city, like a friend.
I dream of spirits that are always free,
Like the clouds that fly,
Full of humanity in the depths of the spirit.
Wow! Gotham
What a beautiful boy. Congratulations to you and all your families.
Love
Bonnie
Gotham,
Beautiful indeed; your son's arrival, the thoughts that went into his name, what he has caused to happen in the world already (!)... wish you all the very best!
KRISHAN CHEN XING
HUA CHOPRA
or
KRISHAN CHAN SINGH WHO HAS BECOME A CHOPRA?
Interesting but funny -
CHEN XING sounds like Indian CHAN SINGH (Moon Lion) and HUA in Hindi means TURNED INTO (Has Become).
So the new Chopra, is he some
KRISHAN CHAN SINGH WHO HAS BECOME A CHOPRA?
A new avatar, no?
Did you check, like all Hindus do, the planetary positions in the sky at the time of his birth? What does the Brahman pundit say about his future?
Will he continue your father's legacy enlightening the West with the newer NEW AGE WISDOM?
Congratulations, anyway.
Dear Gotham
Many congratulations!
With love

Dear Gautham and Candace--most of us long-term IB'ers would love to send a baby gift. Knowing this is not probable to do.. I have created two wonderful digital graphics of Krishan for you both. One is feminine, one masculine; to use as a desktop wallpaper : ) Please accept this, as my gift to you both as a congratulations Mama & Papa!

Once again, congratulations to you both, and welcome to the world, Krishan!!
Much love,
North
PS--I have tried them as my desktop wallpaper, and they fit great.. you just have to center it, and add a background colour--tan worked well with the pewter framed one, and powder blue worked well with the lambs framed one.
Love & Blessings,
North
Thanks everyone for the well wishes to our family. We are so excited about Baby Krishu!
North, I LOVE the wallpaper. Thank you so much - what a wonderful gesture.
Love Mallika
There is nothing like the breath of new life in this world; and I am sure I speak for all of us here, however probable haphazardly with stumbling, bumbling-worded gleefulness when I say;
--thankyou Chopra family, for allowing us into this most intimate, treasured moment of your lives;
so the graphics are not just inspired from my heartfeltedness, alone; it was creative collectively with humble thanks from all of us.. I hope my fellow-IB bloggers will agree?
OH dear, I am so happy for you all, I'll shut-up now... lol
I hope Mallika; that Deepak & Candace, will share the graphics with their family too(gentle smiles.)
Love and more Blessings,
North
I see, Auntie Mallika; has already nic-named her nephew--Krishu--. (gentle smile)
Please excuse my ignorance, but how is the "u" pronounced, so I will know baby Krishu's proper pronunciation?
u as in uh?
u as in you,
or u as in ow?
In English language, of which is all I know; the u is used so many differnet sounds... I hope I am not bold in asking, or seeming ignorant from not knowing--but failing to say a sacred beings name correctly, to me is far worse..and so, I ask...
awwwwwwwwwww.... he is just sooo cute!!!!
Congratulations Candice & Gotham, and the whole family!!
Chindian is quite the combination :P... he has some great heritage n culture to cherish from both sides!
North,
should be 'u' as in the 'ou' sound of 'you'...
Bless this child
for it was awaited and looked for
Bless his mum and dad
for he will give them his tiny little hands and walk with them for a while
Bless his whole family
for they will care for him, cherish him, spoil him and nourish him
and I will sing for him a lullaby
Congratulations and I wish Krishan lots of love and happiness and flowers alongside his path.
Congratulations to you, Candice and all your family, Gotham Chopra!
I do like your choice of names, and having a little boy
at your age is a great way to stave off the ol' aging process.
Good luck! I wish the whole of you well!
You have been blessed. That's why can't stop smiling.
Thanks Nimita--it is important to know the proper sound and pronunciation of a persons name..I appreciate your response. : ) Auntie Mallika's nic-name for Krishan, is as adorable as his essence!!
Love,
North

Cinda

Hearty Congratulations to Dad, Mom, & Family for the joyous new addition of Krishan to the family,
May God bless him with health, wealth, and wisdom of the ages.

Hey Gotham:
Congrats!! May God give him all that he wants. May he have the humility in the best of times and wisdom in the not so good times! May he have the discretion to see through both!
Btw, my sister had a son yesterday in NJ, and they named him Arjun - Arjun Khanna! So, I guess your son now has someone born to give the modern day sermon to...
Seems Gita is in the air... :-)
Cheers,

Stay tuned for regular updates!
Hey Gotham,
I tried to send you a Mazal Tov, but my computer froze, so again congrats to you and best wishes to your family.
I'll be thinking of you when I visit my family the following week in Boston!!! Big Red Sox fans.
Cheers Papa,
Steve
HI Gautham.. I am so glad Candace liked it, and accepted this gift, for her desktop wallpaper.
The magic of life begins, when one becomes a parent... everything changes; and, it's beautiful; because then life is no longer about us; but about another human being; one that love created!
Love and blessings, to you both!
North
Sorry for name-typo Candice! (blush)

Hey Gotham: It's been about nine months since I lasted posted here, although I still read the Intentblog as access permits--Often think of you and Mallika, and all the Intentbloggers whose names I love to see from those "early days" of the Intentblog.
I've been living with one of those originals, Patzi, for the last nine months in Ohio, and we are soon to be heading Oregon way to search out a rural "apple grove" property in Southern OR.
But.....just the other evening, was thinking much about the spirit of your dad's father, for reasons unknown to me as to why, and Patzi pulls this notice of Krishan's arrival to my attention, and.......well, voila my young "old Intentblog friend"--just had to say "well done" to you and Candace for bringing a Master in....since I'm still working my way through the "Life and Teaching of the Masters of The Far East," for the fourth time now!!!!! Much Love to you, Mallika and family, your dad and Shekar, Richard Branson (folks here in Ohio are now familiar with Virgin Comics!!!!)--and much love to all these great Intentbloggers while I'm chiming in. Dave Hall (Dave and Patzi)
Congratulations, Gotham and family, what a wonderful baby.
Dear Chopra Family,
Congratulations!
He is a beautiful baby boy.
Wishing you a lifetime of love, luck, and luxary.
:)
@Dave Hall and Patzi Raven... nice to see your names on the boards.. g'luck on the home-hunting!
@Gautham & Candice--have you slept yet?(gentle smiles)
Dear Gotham,
How is the baby doing? Are you enjoying the sights and sounds and smiles and movements (like the ones that lead to diaper changes :)
Are you and Candice getting some rest? How about your Mom and Dad and Mallika too? :))
love and blessings
