Mallika Chopra - October 12, 2007

It was announced that Former Vice President Al Gore and the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change won the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize today.
Having spent time with Al and his family, I can attest that he is a man who is passionate about humanity and our planet, Mother Earth.
Congratulations!

An Oscar and now the big Nobel,
he should stand for President!
Hillary, Obama and Gore,
wonder where the intentblog loyalties lie.
Dear Friends
We are grateful to the Supra Universal Consciousness for having showered Grace.
This is tremendous news, having watched Al Gore's presentations on Climate Chaos face-to-face, five times or so...
All that helps humanity, is welcome, over and under thy will O Lord!
With love
DK and family
Here's a reprint from my comment on Huffpo on this same subject:
This country needs Al Gore. He can absolutely have the most impact by being an ACTING PRESIDENT who has a Nobel Peace Prize. This puts him in a totally different position than say, Jimmy Carter.
The thing about everyone else who has a Nobel peace prize is that the Bushies can ignore all of them. Not so Al Gore.
Al Gore is the anti-venom for the BushCheney poison that has infected the bloodstream of America.
The whole reason we are invading the Middle East - to ensure our addiction to oil - doesn't hold water with Al, and that is as it should be.
We need his brains and his right-thinking in the White House more than ever.
We have already seen that the work that needs to be done in the White house will not get accomplished if Al doesn't step in there and do it.
Also, the biggest obstacle to his work is the fact that the White House won't co-operate with the rest of the world on the climate change issue. If he was President, the single biggest block to progress on climate issues - the non-cooperation of the United States - would be removed. Think about it.
Who would you rather have President for the next eight years - Al, Hillary or Rudy?
Gore also happens to have a very balanced view of national defense issues and he would be able to negotiate an organized withdrawal from Iraq. Electing Gore would also be the best move America could make to get us out of the Middle East, and to restore America as a positive force on the world scene.
I suspect there would be some changes in the White house human rights policies under Gore too.
Could you imagine Gore using Presidential signing statements to avoid the law - having a secret energy conference, or an energy policy based on a series of back-to-back wars? Advocating waterboarding on national TV?
Of course not. He would end all that crap like on Jan 20th 2009.
Your country needs you, Al.
goodfridayeveryone,
interesting article yogi-one....
true, Al Gore has fans..no doubt about it..and, yes, an Oscar and a Nobel Prize....quite impressive. I wouldn't make too much of it though, I really think his time has passed.
Personally I think the Country has had enough of the corrupt Republican Smear Machine that has been running wild in US politics for the last eight years. I do not know if you have read about their lastest SMEAR of a 12 year old boy and his family...really, these CREEPS that are on the front lines of this REPUBLICAN political smear machine are nothing if not bold in there willingness to attach anyone, anytime, anywhere.
Rudy, is part and parcell of everything that is wrong and corrupt about the Republican party and that goes for the rest of the candidates. If there are people out there who are still willing to vote for this sad excuse of a Party then what is one to do?
Who would the Country rather see in the WH, Al, Hillary, Rudy?
Rudy...unless the Country wants more of the same as the last eight years...hard to imagine but heck there are some who come to IB still support there Republican buddies.
Hillary, so far is the most electable but it is early...this moring she said she would negotiate with Iran....Iran is pretty clear that they will not negotiate their nuclear policy....so I am confused by that...REally, I would like to see the EU and Israel deal with Iran and the US just stay out of it...they are more than capable of dealing with IRAN...we have enough on our plate with this Iraq disaster.
I think the real problem in this Nation right now is the need to break the back of the Republican Smear Machine and it's hold on our political system...and that includes the religious rights sick influence on our political system and they go hand in hand.....
God, if ever this Nation needed the fresh air and cool cool breeze of the liberals it is now...
For sure, whoever takes over the WH has a mess to deal with...and frankly I wonder if the mess can be cleaned at all, the waste and corruption, the cost of this war in life and dollars may be beyond our ability to set straight....
Really, I do not care who takes the White House in January 2009 as long as it is not another Republican and I think the majority of the USA feels as I do...saying..just get these sicko's out of Office before it is too late to recover from their policies.
have a great day everyone, ruth
gee, i don't know, maybe i'm just against electing a blatant hypocrite (flying in a gas-guzzling jet to claim a nobel prize for environmental awareness?) who also claims to be concerned about poverty yet happens to be incredibly rich (why not give his wealth to the poor?) and who feigns compassion for the future of humanity while concomitantly endorsing the assasination of innocent souls (aka abortion).
sounds like a winner to me!
Hearfelt congratulations to Al Gore, on this prestigious award and honour! Joining with you Mallika, and all.. to congratulate a man, deserving of recognition!
Love,
North
Packsaddle, Gore has offset all his carbon use fully with purchasing credits and yielded more than ANY politician or former politician to the realities of climate change.
And I'm not sure what a pro-choice stance (which I am not supporting either) has to do with man-made, accelerating climate change?
Why, perhaps the opposite could be said of you: "why would I listen to PACKSADDLE who feigns compassion for the innocent souls who are assasinated while completely ignoring the fact that life does not end after birth, and that decent stewardship of our creator's gift might be a nice little gift to bestow on our (your) children?"
And if you question the science behind it (which you really haven't done, but I suppose you might), at what point are you going to take the epistomological leap that says, okay, maybe we're causing this? When we live in a cauldron like Venus and you're just about to die? Like a Pal Mal cowboy on a ventilator?
(Recall that Venus is about twice as hot as Mercury while twice as far from the sun...it has to do with carbon based gases like CO2 and methane which have an effect on the climate.)
I think the problem with the new breed of neo-cons is that they want it 100% their way. Low taxes should naturally and inexorably lead to NO taxes, and God help anyone who stands in the way.
Anyway, that Gore is suggesting we can actually spur the next wave of economic development by ushering in the same profound changes that accompanied the industrial revolution, makes total sense.
But I suppose there are those who will swear by the horse and buggy until they die.
...and their Pal Mals.
Whatever we do, we'd better stop nitpicking and hear the main message, which is: let go of your ego and work as one, NOW.
Here is what the Chief Scientist of WWF's Global Climate Change Programme has to say in response to IPCC's 2007 report on the state of the climate:

The quote I mentioned is the following:
-------
"The irritating thing is that we have all the tools at hand to limit climate change and save the world from the worst impacts," says Dr Lara Hansen, Chief Scientist of WWF's Global Climate Change Programme.
"The IPCC makes it clear that there is a window of opportunity but that it's closing fast. The world needs to use its collective brains to think ahead for the next ten years and work together to prevent this crisis."
---------
There is a window of opportunity, but it's closing fast.
Yes, we have egos, yes, we are used to fighting about just about everything, yes, we are afraid that there's not enough, yes, we are concerned with "me and mine", yes, we are angry and afraid... but there is a window of opportunity.
We can say: yes, I have an ego, but I won't let it cover my heart, my clarity, my reason. I want us all to make it, together, more than I want my ego to win over all other egos. A window of opportunity, a cubic centimeter of chance. Our choice.

At what point will the naysayers take the epistomological leap to say, "yeah, this might be caused by us?"
You sure could disconnect everything from everything. Technically, you can regale yourself in doubt until your food supply's in jeopardy.
It has long been understood and established scientifically that CO2 and other gases (like methane) cause the trapping of heat. They've studied it on other planets for ages. It has unquestionably been established.
But for some reason, this planet is different than all the others.
Probably because there are so many kooks on it.
