Mallika Chopra - October 21, 2007
The first non-white to hold a post since Reconstruction. And, the first Indian American Governor, as well.
He won't remember me, but Bobby and I were undergrads at Brown University together.
I actually remember him because he was part of group of people who converted to Catholicism at Brown - a process that fascinated, and honestly, baffled me. (One of my best friends converted at that time, as well.)
Converting to Catholicism is a dedicated process, and the group that did so were some of the smartest, most intellectual people I knew. I just didn't get what the appeal was and where the strong faith came from. (Another convert was Jewish who went on to become a monk and live in a monastary in silence for six years!)
Nonetheless, Bobby seems to have found his peace, and he represents true success for immigrants and their hopes of realizing the "American dream".
Louisiana needs good, solid leadership, and
Governor Jindal, no doubt, has a lot to accomplish. Even though I differ on many of his social stances, I wish him true success in bringing back business, legitimacy and resources to Louisiana and New Orleans!

I think this is great news and certainly a sign of our changing times. America continues to be an example of what it's like to live in a country where you can follow your dreams.
I leave you with this wonderful quote:
BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE!
I congratulate Bobby! and HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEEPAK!!!
I'm just curious Mallika,
Did you know him well enough to ask him what the appeal was to Catholicism?
Conversions to other religions happen all the time.
Perhaps he was searching for something that he didn't find in Hinduism, who knows?
Best wishes to Bobby!
Steve
I suppose he's a true southin boy, Congrads! to Bobby! Hope to get down to that part of the country soon.
Love
It is quite simple really. This Jindal fellow probably knew from a very young age that he wanted to be a high flier in American politics and knew the lie of the land. Do you know of any American president who had a different faith affiliation? When in Rome.......
His ambitions were probably greater than his loyalty to the faith of his birth.
Like Germany and France, Lousiana has elected a pro American leader.
Perhap after the next hurricain things will run smoother now, for it's not the in the short term aftermath that all the blame lies, but in the long term preparation in which Lousiana had none but a system of 'vote for me and you'll be taken care of' for over 50 years. Generations raised on social programs that gave the worst gift: Reliance on government. That is what left people stranded on the rooftops.
Three cheers for Lousiana for changing directions. Too bad it took a major event.
Next up: San Fran moving 20 feet north.
It is said that animals react wierd before major earth shattering events. Do humans give out signs like this? Prehaps drag queens deciding to go to communion is a one thing they do.
No judgement here (except for that 'pro American' thing), just observing.
See George Carlin on the Today show? He mocked previous segments. New exciting nail art and freindship break ups. 'Circling the drain', he called it, to Al Rokkers nervous grin. Love that. 'Circling the Drain'. My new favorite saying.
Post 7,
Dear Wah whatever, don't presume things you don't know about me.
Thanks. Have a good day.
Hi Mallika--on my myspace, in my top friends is an icon link to an MTV-Presidential Dialogue! On Oct. 29th--Obama will be on LIVE, to answer questions...
just thought you'd like the heads-up--maybe get to talk to Obama himself.. all candidates will be having a turn(apparently)
I'd post a link to the actual MTV-Presidential Diaglogue myspace itself; except their myspace doesn't show it(it's an option we myspace users have.)

Dear Mallika,
I am so sorry about the fires in California. I'm praying for the safety and speedy healing of everyone touched by this tragedy. You, your daughters and husband, Gotham, his wife and new baby, your parents and all the people working at the Chopra Center, you are all in my prayers. Please take care!

Gosh! It is really easy to get you going isn't it? Three replies to one!
If you read my comment, I've said 'probably' at every juncture. I haven't presumed anything. And anyway I was commenting on the narrowmindedness of American politics (no women, no blacks or browns or persons of different faiths in presidential position) rather than that of any individual who might feel pressured into doing what they feel they must to progress.
As for my typekey identity etc. etc. it has certainly got nothing to do with you.
Neetu.. don't let them get under your skin.
This blog used to so awesome 2+ years ago; then, a bunch of rowdies showed up--and played the same games they are with you.
Doctors, lawyers, nurses, business people, millionaires USED TO POST AT INTENTBLOG--but, they refuse to permanently block the trouble-making parties, and now, this blog belongs to "them."
Why the Chopras would want to LOSE intelligent people, and keep troublemakers is beyond me.. who all seem to have 6-8 or 12 hours a day,, to post here??
creepy!
maybe their "experimental blog" is an experiment upon us all....in ways unknown to us??
anyway.... be strong, don't fall for the mind-games. It isn't worth it.. trust me.
Yeah... authors, musicians and artists also USED TO POST HERE TOO.. they are all gone now... famous actors and singers.. can't be bothered to come here anymore; due to the mind-games of a "few" who seem to OWN THIS BLOG NOW< not the Chopra's....
terribly sad and disappointing...
My comments were not exclusive to YOU, whah wha..they were general remarks, to warn Neetu; of the mind-game-players here; and how they have corrupted and viled this once beautiful blog, into just another playground to mess up!! Same thing happened at the chopra discussion site..
terribly sad; to create, and then let fall... in this pitiful way..
tnx for the kind comments... "whoever you are" be at one with peace.. as I am.
North
wha wah ..plz forgive my mis-typing your name...
North
Many smiles upon you wha wah for your kindness and understanding...
but, I have to disagree... in the past, there were barely even an arguement... nobody called people names like now. FEW used so many nicnames, to screw up everyone!! So many wonderful posters left...
it's a shame is all.. to build a "place" then let it fall to the curb...
It is sunrise here.. I am off to try to sleep.. pain keeps me awake, many nights...
Peace,
North
Bobby Jindal was just on the Laura Ingraham show (you know, one of those 'hate' radio shows, called that because the Dems hate them). I like what I heard. I believe there is hope for this country when I hear young politicians speak with common sense like Bobby does. One of the points he made was that people seem to respect politicians even if they don't agree with them as long as they know they are being true and not just making poll driven policy.
The people need leaders that are not constantly lead by the people. That's like finding lowest common denominator, poll driven policy. Have you seen the magazine racks at 7-11's lately? (you may point out TIME or Newsweek in the mire of Britney cover pics, and I would say 'my point exactly')
Thanks north for your support. I have noticed a common thread and some common phrases in some bloggers posts. There is an element of bullying behaviour. And yes I have noticed the deterioration in the tone of dialogue on intentblog. Previously I would just come and browse and learn something new without needing to say much. But ever since victimisation of certain contributors has become more and more evident I have felt compelled to have a say, so that the discussion isn't so one sided.
Fortunately I am not very easily scared off. One has to deal with all kinds of people in day to day life anyway. Internet is no different.

Interesting. Someone wanting to change his name at the age of 4. Perhaps he did not like his name at that age. I wonder what was his name before. How is that connected with his changing faith a few years later. Just curious.
Morris
Just Curious? Are you kidding? The guy changes his name at the age of 4 and you are not more concerned than that? It's anti-christy, for crying out loud! (Even more than Obama's story). If this guys story isn't causing you anixety then you better start watching more TV, both entertainment and news programing (if you can tell the difference).
I had a dream that the fires in California were determined to be caused by 24 hour cable news channels. If you believe in the Law of Attraction, can that be far from the truth? Is western society literally going to scare itself to death?

#26--Tnx, Dhawa--yes, I am speaking of 2 and 1 half years ago... when this blog was NEW, fresh, cleanly run... now, it's rampant with .. I don't even know what to call it; except.. wars are made this way too...??
@Neetu--well, I am glad you are strong; because I've seen some posters bully you off and on; and it is just so negative, so destructive.. so.. LOST in a VOID of wasted time and energy..
have a gr8 day everyone... one never knows, if it will be the last day.... so live it fully, with love, with passion for self and others...

Hey, thanks for the post Mallika, as I enjoyed it since I am part American Indian, which is a hard life for most of that ethic group. I watch my mother still suffering from the life she had to endure as a poor and uneducated woman, as well as an American Indian.
Also, as far as the Christian faith, I think it just happens. There is this great power that pulls one to Jesus Christ and one can feel it. I think they call it the Holy Ghost and it's full of love and when it pulls, one cannot resist it. It separate from our spirit, but unites with our spirit, so it's hard to explain, but you know it when you feel it's presence.
For me, I went to church a few times while at my grandmother's house when I was about 15 and I was overcome by a gentle force that almost literally picked me up from my chair, as I started crying for no reason from the power, and pulled me down the aisle as stood in front of the pastor. I was dump founded and had not a clue what was going on. It had happened the Sunday before, but I resisted. But this particular Sunday, as I fought the pull, I chose to allow. So I was baptist and it did not kill me as I wonder what would happen and if I would drown or turn into something else. As I changed clothes and sat down again, the lights in the church brightened all of a sudden, like someone had turned the up. It was 30 years later before I followed. Now, I don't know what I am doing, but I am trying to follow as I horribly mess up. I heard the other day, "You fall down, I pick up."
Love, Char

Forgive me, but what is anti-christy?

@#36--do you not agree with me? I believe negative interaction is what creates warring. Isn't infighting a lesser form of warring??
North
wha_wah/dhuwa... don't let them manipulate you with their insecurities and mean-games.
I have been following intentblog since it's inception. I'm honestly revolted by your ___ kissing of those who were one of the first contributors to the negative effects at Intentblog, and before that at the "chopra discussion site" -- that they now are refusing to acknowledge their part is typical of them and expected, but I thought you a least wouldn't allow yourself to appear to be fooled about such things. you know what happened, per your past comments. But maybe expecting you to be any different from them in acknowledging the truth of negative manupulations of others, trolling IB, and bullying others, is silly on my part. maybe you're just like them, and if so, no wonder at the a&&-kissing.
[38] PS: In fact, as I recall, the same people were one of the first people ever banned at Intentblog because of their disgusting and disruptive behavior, their bullying and lies. well, those who are used to putting shit out probably can't tell when they're eating it.
I don't know why I bother to write to you about such things, your kind may never change.
Apologies for posting this (#38) here. Open Thread is abuzz with California fires and prayers. I am not for feeding the trolls who consistently hijack contributor threads at Intentblog.
dhawa--#'s38-39 proves my "point" about warring via communications quite well.. perfect example in fact!!
--divide and conquering is the frailty of a persons inner-fear-- embedded so deeply, that they must consume negative energy, to "continue to exist.
I do not exist, I am not here--I am but a mere figment of someones own imagination... as are we ALL!

Thank you vey much.
Of course, Piyush is not a mainstream name and it is possible that a child of 4 would prefer to be called Bobby. Could one deduce a similar reasoning for his change of faith? Perhaps not. When one is mature adult one would do this kind of change only after a great deal of thought and study. Not curious any more.

When conservatives run as conservatives, unashamed of what they believe, they win. Congrats, Gov. Bobby!
In Liberty,
Sandy
One thing I've learned over the years is when Republicans are conservative, they win every time. When they move to the left, they lose every time. Bobby Jindal proved what I've known all along. If you're a Republican and you run as a conservative, you win.
Which is why we should all be supporting Duncan Hunter and/or Tom Tancredo, the only conservatives running.
He He He.. I was wondering about the wisdom of this 4 year kid to find fault in his own religion and changing to other.. He He He.. Also wondering the wisdom of all the bloggers who missed that...He He He...
