Mesa Grill is my fav in NYC. I watch Flay all the time on Food Network. Yummy.

Saira,

I just signed up for the December Wild Foods dinner at our local organization Earthwalk Northwest. The experience is a feast of foods from the Earth.

Sample Dishes
While each menu is varied, depending on the season, here are just a few examples of the dishes that grace our table:

stinging nettle soup
acorn muffins with elderberry jelly
dock seed crackers
burdock beer
cattail pollen crepes
smoked salmon with chickweed pesto
bear roast with juniper berry gravy
razor clam patties
roasted camas bulbs
cattail shoot salad

Trish,
Do you cook? Fish is my thing.

Saira #8:

Yes, I do cook...and bake. It's especially fulfilling to harvest wild plants and cook with them. I have a nettle casserole that is yummy. You can use nettle in place of spinach and it is sooo healthy. Do you have nettle growing where you live?

Trish~~

Yummy. Yes. there is a restaurant in Soho, London called the Birdcage which has the most interesting dishes on the menu. Not sure if its everyone's cup of tea-but items such as Lavender mash and Irish moss are quite interesting. Its run by an austere French woman who has a tendency to look over your shoulder as you are eating the canopes of grubs...mmm.....

Trish,
Care to share the idea behind your nettle casserole?
It would be neat to see that as the 'secret ingredient' on Iron Chef.

I materialized a strawberry shortcake desert
onetime. I ate it a bit.
Then it was gone. (Laughs).

Have you ever read a menu like this?
Have you ever been bored like this?
Have you even seen a movie like this?
Have you ever been bullshtied like this?
Have ever screwed a woman like this?
What's all this? Why a blog like this?

Bubba #13:

You never can tell what magic lurks under the surface of blogging like this. Stay attuned!

Saira #11:

Nettles would love to be on Iron Chef. Though mischievous and stinging on the surface they are loving at heart. (like people?)

Re nettles steam them or dry them. Put them in casseroles, lasagnas, soups or stews. I can send recipes...what would you like? Bread, appetizer, soup, entree, dessert?

I have a direct relationship with nettles as fields of them sing in this valley by my river.

Hi Saira Mohan, it would be great if you write some thoughts about the links you post in the blog entry... if not your personal, social, environmental or spiritual message ...

Sure...the dialogue in the comments thread is enlightening and entertaining...but some effort in the initial post would be useful in kicking off a focussed dialogue with active participation.

Sandeep,
My blogs are often more of an effort to get to know you all, through your comments, rather than pontificating my thoughts...which is something that I am happy do when I am inclined, invited, and asked.

Like reading a menu in a restaurant and choosing what suits you at the moment you reject some ideas, and choose that which appeals. No one can eat everything on the menu!

Hi Saira,
Do you have a favorite restaurant in NYC?
(I will be in the Big Apple in Jan.)

Hello Anne,
I agree with you about making a loud statement - and I happen to be a vegetarian :)

Food appeals on several levels, least of which is to nourish our bodies! but a what delight to be able to choose from a variety of flavors and myriad dishes ....
you can't live long enough to try all the possibilities
:)

love,
~ Kate

Hi Anne

I wouldn't say the 'other' is offensive, or even judged as offensive... it might simply not be the choice of the observer.

I liked your restaurant comparison... I have actually been out to dinner with people who attempted to criticize the menu choices of others and treat them with disdain. Scenes in restaurants are just awful, even when just observed from another table.

People are endlessly fascinating!

Kate,
Watch "Iron Chef America" and pick an episode where Bobby Flay is competing...or watch "Throwdown with Bobby Flay"...both on Food Network. ...then go eat at Mesa Grill in NYC (his restaurant). It would be a really great experience.

Kate theres a little noodle house on Mott st. in
Soho, I dream bout there spicy tofu balls and there fresh avacodo and corn chowder! Check it out, its so yummy! and fresh! one of my very favorites on this
marble. Its called " Noodle"

Food, not just about taste.

"there is no love sincere than the love of food"

~George Bernard Shaw

Anyone have any deeper issues with food? I am having to change the foods that I eat and it's not easy. This body is reacting to all the carbs/sugars I have craved all my life. Not fun at all to be required to be conscious of every moment and the food I ingest.

So many foods are acidic and I read that an acidic body is a sickness magnet. I'm working to find balance. Those old patterns can sneak in. It must be a chemical internal battle between old and new. Not unlike our outer world.

Body is a holy temple and not a garbage disposal to stuff down food -- I'm talking to myself here.

And on that note...tomorrow is Thanksgiving with all the trimmings! Which brings up something else. Do you pick up on the holiday frenzy and get pulled in? It takes a strong foundation and core not to. Support systems are needed inside and out.

En-joy!

Trish~~

Hi Trish,
It is that time of year, when food looms large on America's plates, and overeating is very tempting.

Imagine, though for a vegetarian, there is the challenge of ... not fitting in with the traditions of Thanksgiving turkey and ham.

There is also lots of desserts to choose from, and that is tempting too!

Do you feel the pull of expectations around food - easier to deal with - within yourself now, as you have great insights to food issues.

I hope you will have a wonderful Thanksgiving day, honoring - who you are and sharing it with the ones you love!
~ Kate

Kate,

Thanks for your sweet note that is nourishing...heart to heart. People have tried to replace such spiritual connection with other kinds of sweets such as chocolate ice cream or apple pie with cheese...yum!

It's an ongoing challenge to listen to one's body and get the signals right. Signals that guide one on a path of health.

We support each other on the journey to wellness of body/mind/spirit.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving, also, Kate.

Trish~~
