As a former star cadet and wanna be reserve in a family with a long history of freedom struggle, Remembrance day is an important day to us. A day to rejoice our past and the valiant efforts of our soldiers, who sacrificed their basic needs so that we can enjoy our luxuries.

Many Canadians don't know much and all Canadians especially new Canadians should make an effort to know about our history and Veteran's week. Freedom was not handed over to us, it was taken by our brave soldiers whose only selfish wish was to make the great North Free.
So today take a moment to visit our veterans week website and learn a little about Remembrance day that you didn't know before. Do your part to promote our Freedom and Democracy and respect those who gave us our Freedom and Democracy.
Growing up as a kid in India, there is one image that struck me and still inspires me. The Kargil war memorial and the wordings. " when you go home, tell them of us and say, for your tomorrow we gave our today"
The Sappani's salute our soldiers who stood for our Canadian values of Freedom, Democracy and human rights and pray for our brave brothers and sisters keepiing our flag flying high in Afghanistan.
Remembrance day is a day to commemorate the sacrifices of members of the armed forces and civilians in times of war, specifically since the First World War. It is observed on 11 November to recall the end of World War I on that date in 1918. The observance is specifically dedicated to members of the armed forces who were killed during war.
Remembrance day celebrations in Canada , UK, Australia, Sri Lanka and other countries.

I'd like to suggest to everyone who reads this that they go see the film "Lions for Lambs."
The film has been attacked even before it was released because some people would rather you not see the film. Some people claim it's America bashing. Nothing can be farther from the truth. It's an extremely patriotic film about the state of our apathetic nation that will inspire you and help change the course of history. This film is that powerful.
hi vijay,
its heartening to see a few people still remember the sacrifices made by strangers so that we all live in peace.
i feel a little strongly about the apathy towards the PoW. At least the Indian government is notable about its lack of will towards finding a solution .In spite of having a defence service background, i am positive that i wouldn't want my children to sign up...the unsung glory , the unrewarded bravery and the unconcern shown by the powers that be instill a "its not worth it 'mindset .
i wish i could be persuaded otherwise....
The world lost a special young man, Andy Aviles - 4 & 1/2 years ago in the first wave of assault on Baghdad.
Blessings and love to families everywhere that must hear news of loss.
I am grateful for the love and commitment of service men and women, and wish with all my heart it was not necessary for any to be put in harm's way.
dear Ruth,
thank you for your #1

Good post!
Although I dont see how the Afghan War - the way it was fought - and Iraq War could help the world, I nevertheless believe that the soldiers - specially those who dont believe in the war but fight - are highest Karma Yogis amongst us!
We in India crib about the problems and bad treatment of the veterans. .but read this:
- 25% of all homeless in the US are Veterans!
- 50% of veterans who come back do not get a job
The situation of the veterans in the US is pretty poor! The stickers on the back of your cars dont help them buy the grocery! It wont help them get medical help either....
.... it requires a change in the institutional structure itself!
Hats off.. to those in defense who are willing to die for their motherland.
Cheers,
desh
