Intent - December 29, 2007
Lynne McTaggart. bestselling author of The Field, describes the experiments run thus far in The Intention Experiment, which involves her readers as actual participants in global experiments to test the power of thoughts to change the world.
I’ve spent several years amassing the evidence of the science of intention, pulling together the research carried out around the world from scientific institutions and native traditions to demonstrate how human thoughts and intentions are an actual physical ‘something’ with the astonishing power to change our world.
I’ve also interviewed dozens masters of intention, like Qigong masters and master healers, to distill from their common techniques a practical program readers can use to “power up” according to the right time, the best places, the best mental states and the most likely targets when intention works best.
But I was especially fascinated by the power of ‘group mind’ to transform and heal the world.
I’d dug up evidence that multiple minds trained on the same target magnified the effect produced by an individual. However, the evidence was tantalizing but inconclusive.
So I decided to get my readers to help me as participants in cutting-edge research. I created a global laboratory of leading scientists in consciousness research and designed experiments to involve readers in the largest mind-over-matter experiment in history.
The first worldwide double-blind experiments to test the power of intention have produced extraordinary evidence that ‘group mind’ is capable of changing the physical properties of plants and speeding up their growth.
The studies have involved thousands of readers around the world sending intention to targets under strictly scientifically controlled conditions through the Intention Experiment website (www.theintentionexperiment.com) or during individual gatherings around the world.
For these initial experiments, I paired up with a team of scientists at the University of Arizona.
We decided to test whether thoughts could make seeds sprout earlier and grow faster. In each instance the Arizona scientists prepared four sets of seeds — one set of seeds, and three controls — to eliminate chance findings. Prior to each study, the lab emailed me photos of all four sets of seeds.
I was scheduled to appear before many diverse audiences in many countries during the summer of 2007, which afforded me numerous opportunities to test this experiment in a variety of settings.
I also successfully carried out this study on the internet, inviting readers from around the globe to send intention to one of the chosen set of seeds.
Throughout the summer of 2007, I ran the study before audiences in Sydney, Australia, Rhinebeck, New York, and Hilton, Head, North Carolina, who were instructed, in each instance, to direct their thoughts to target seeds in the Tucson, Arizona lab.
In one of the series of experiments, the intention of a group as small as 100 was powerful enough to affect the growth of the seeds, which were nearly 3000 miles away.
The largest effect of all occurred with the final study, which was conducted among a group of experienced Healing Touch healers. In this case, the seeds sent intention grew nearly twice as large as the controls.
In an earlier study, the University of Arizona team and I had demonstrated that group thoughts can alter a basic physical property of geranium leaves: the tiny light — called biophoton emissions — emitted from all living things.
The results of the glowing intention were so strong that they could readily be seen in digital biophoton photographs using powerful CCD cameras.
Most recently, we’ve turned our attention to water. Working with Russian physicist Konstantin Korotkov, we carried out a successful Intention Experiment involving thousands of people from 80 countries around the globe, who were instructed to send love to a little vial of water in St. Petersburg, Russia.
Sophisticated equipment later showed that this experiment changed it essential properties, specifically its light emissions. When Dr. Korotkov examined the light emission during and after our intention, he discovered a highly significant change. This result has vast implications about the power of thought to clean up the world’s polluted water supply.
If know we can change and ‘improve’ water by sending love to it, we could have a healing effect on everything that contains water: food, drinking water – indeed every living thing. Remember that all animals (us included) are 80 per cent water and all plants are almost 100 per cent water.
Our ‘global laboratory’ is now moving on to a ‘mini-Gaia’, which will involve constructing a little terrarium and asking readers to attempt to lower its temperature.
If we find we have a significant effect, the implications of it — that our collective thoughts could tackle global warming — will be extraordinary.
I’m also working with top scientists to design experiments to see if group intention can lower violence in certain hotspots in the world, raise the educational results in the US’s poorest districts and increase the availability of certain biofuels.
Although the first experiments have ‘worked,’ it’s important to understand that all we have at the moment is an intriguing demonstration of possibility, and not one single definitive statement. Each scientific experiment must be replicated many times to be accepted as fact.
But here is the first scientific evidence that one good thought is all it takes to change the world.

That's a brilliant study! great information.
Our world will heal with this kinda of work!
Months ago I received this very book and an accompanying audio CD from the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS). So, I listened to the CD thanks to this IntentBlog prompt.
Wow! Lynne McTaggart has my vote for "beaming out" energy and increasing "photon emission". It's fun to hear and watch science describe LOVE. And it's even more fun to hear how Lynne is getting people involved in expressing it through "group intention".
We change ourselves and our world through intention. Our very own blogger, Grace Wilson, told us her story about intention and how that changed her toe! The power of One is multiplied by the power of many. Is that power going to be positive or will it have a "voo-doo effect" as Lynne refers to negativity.
Lynne McTaggart suggests that one choose an "intention space" and use it regularly as studies show how effective regularity can be. IntentBlog is such a space.
Shall we create an IntentBlog group intention this new year's eve (tomorrow) focusing on one thought, sending it in one direction and at the same time? What a great new year resolution that can be! Does someone want to set that into motion?

While the waves crash in the sea and meet the land
While there's a wind and the stars and the rainbow

Oh yes we'll keep on tryin'
Tread that fine line
Oh we'll keep on tryin yeah
Just passing our time
While we live according to race, colour or creed
While we rule by blind madness and pure greed
Our lives dictated by tradition, superstition, false religion
Through the eons, and on and on
Oh yes we'll keep on tryin'
We'll tread that fine line

If there's an answer to the questions we feel bad to ask
Show yourself - destroy our fears - release your mask...
Dear Jean,
I hear you and hereunder my story of which I hope it answers at least some of the questions we feel bad to ask:
I have asked myself: what do I need to be happy?
Because the first 32 years of my life I wasn't.
At that moment I looked at a little tablet that had the words engraved: “It is the little things that do it, when you honour the little things in life, the greater things will follow by themselves”. It is a Dutch saying and it is hard to translate it into proper English.
At that moment I felt an enormous self reproach and gratitude at the same time for what I already had in my life and had totally forgotten because of all the negative thoughts filling my head.
Like a Big Bang I suddenly awakened to the fact that it does not matter what I do or think, the mere fact that I am alive was enough to be accepted. In that instant I accepted myself totally the way I was and the way I am. I really went as deep as was necessary and was able to pull myself out of that well by merely accepting the fact that I was alive.
And then all the sayings of people to whom I used to complain about my feelings came back and for the first time I could recognize that they were right. The mere fact that you are alive gives you the choice to MAKE something of that life or to DESTROY it. It is totally up to ONESELF.
So I started from scratch, surrendering in deep humbleness towards life and just hoping that change would occur. But instead of being negative any longer I started to tell myself that I could do it all by myself and that there was not so much needed to be happy. So I started to sing in myself first and later sang it out loud even that loud that people in the neighbourhood thought I had taken some drugs :)
Slowly but surely I was able to put myself on the rails again, found out how many hobbies I had that were forgotten and started one hobby that I could do together with my kids, getting to know how to compute and play computer games.
I became interested in the programming behind the games and started to teach myself the basics of programming. In this way I found out that by programming games I could also program my life as a kind of game. This was a revelation on itself.
Up till now I still am that games programmer for myself, making 3D virtual worlds that express my experiences. But I found out that no-one in my family or of my friends is interested in them, so I just make them for myself, remembering that I am the one that is able to make my life worthwhile.
I am from that generation where women did not have a job outside except for running the household, so my luck has been that i did not have to earn money.
But the fact that my hobby had such a positive impact on my life automatically always placed me in the position of receiving everything i needed for that hobby.
So what do I need to be happy? Having peace with the fact that I am alive and trying to make the most of it for myself without obstructing others to do the same.
My hobby is my work and I am never bored with it. So I am at total peace with myself.
And that is something I would wish everyone to be. What do you need to be Happy?
Peace with and within yourself. You are the sun that shines in your heart.
Wishing everyone a Peaceful and Happy New Year
Mieke
your 3D worlds are magnificent testaments to your achievements Mieke!! I treasure each one you've sent me over the past few years, using my graphics. These self-made gifts I'll treasure always!
North
I participated in IONS' last experiment with water, and it was very interesting to me to read the detailed scientific details that were sent to us afterwards. It was so unusual to see it black and white on paper :D:)
Like many here, I have experimented with focused intention for some time and have relied on results observed in life in general, which is of course enough proof for me.
If anyone is interested in participating, we have a dedicated group called Heal the Planet on the Alliance for a New Humanity network site (thealliancenetwork.org), where we gather around all kinds of issues, from hurricanes to water shortages to political unrest. It's fun, it's rewarding and it's working.
Trish,
I'd love to join you in a group intention. How about Peace and Love to our planet, sent at midnight?
Dear North,
Thanks, that means a lot to me:)
We had such a great mutual exchange of selfmade creative gifts :).
I am very grateful for that and your cards and all the other gifts i received from you are still such a wonderful token to me of our friendship.
We may disagree on a few things but at a creative level we have a lot in common :)
All the best to you and much creative inspiration for 2008!
Mieke
Much love to you Mieke.. for a few years of undeniable kindness, in sharing our mutual love for art, creativity, and friendship. I show your 3D worlds to everyone whom visits, and is interested in viewing my collective artwork via your absolutely smashing 3D worlds. : )
Disagreement in friendships are a healthy development process, IMHO. : )
All the best, to you and Frank, for 2008!!

Aurora #7:
Thanks...I'll look into Heal the Planet with ANH. Are you going to Costa Rica in March? It would be fun to meet you!
Yes, let's set an intention for Peace and Love to our planet. Midnight it is What time zone? I'm in the Pacific Zone and will go with that unless I hear differently from you here on I-Blog.
My intention will unclude white threads of light dancing as Peace and Love to Her, around Her, through Her and out from Her. A beaming circulation of Peace and Love.
Love & Renewal in 2008,
Trish~~
dear Mieke,
your post #5 is wonderful,
you are wonderful!
lots of love,
~ Kate
Dear Kate,
You have a special talent :). Thank you so much.
I know you have a hard time with your father in hospital and so has North with her mother and son.
And many more people. We all go through such experiences and it is good to be able to share it with others.
It is during such times that family members often come very close to one another again and it offers new ways of showing love for one another.
Sometimes a little caressing touch or smile will tell more than any words could do.
This is what I want to give to you, North and everyone going through such a difficult time.
Blessings and much love,
Mieke
Hello Mieke and everyone!
Thanks you very much for your words! It's really nice to hear the true-story, true-life of oneself.
I feel you close as I read your soft attention to me. I have full admiration to people who can open themselves to the others, and express the way they really are.
Your words help me tonight to turn myself deeper inside. You help me to realize that I am judging myself too hard. Even more, I realized that my inner-wall-judgment is braking my outer-world experience. Inside the wall there were some layers. False-Religion is one of them... I'll talk later about the other-ones.
This is rock-solid good:
"...Like a Big Bang I suddenly awakened to the fact that it does not matter what I do or think, the mere fact that I am alive was enough to be accepted..." - Mieke
After the reading of your comment I went to meditation-sleep. I have been able to stop my mind-walker activity. I was in trust about the right to be nothing more than just myself. Being myself with nothing else than just myself true mind-body; a right allowed by life and forgotten. The tree without leaves, outside in the snow, looking at me by the window, was agreeing in is own way, I think.
Something happened... At the level of my heart I felt an "end-tension" and at the same time, "a flow" of some sort. I'll say a flow of both things. First, a better flow of blood from my heart to my all body. Warming all part of my body. Secondly, there was something like a flow of energy reaching my soul, giving peace within myself, peace with the surrounding and a strange knowledge of my right of being here, a knowledge that people will accept me because I could be myself, without social-sick-mask. Without this mask used habitually to unit people in a common feeling-concept only.
You are a beauty Mieke...
Dear Trish,
I'll join you at midnight in the Pacific time zone :) I still don't know if we will meet in Costa Rica, but we will surely meet if you come to the Human Forum in Barcelona in November.
Dear Kate and North,
all my love to you and your family members who are sick right now! Thank you Mieke for telling us. Best wishes to you and your families for good health and peace in the new year!
Hi Jean,
That's the spirit! Thank you for the Music :)
And here one song for you and everyone, that is still going strong:

Aurora #14:
Pacific Time/Midnight it is!
Please add my mom (who has diabetes) to your list of prayers. The sore on her foot has not healed and her entire leg is now hurting her. She won't let the nurses clean and bandage it twice a day because it hurts; she doesn't want to take pain pills and gives everyone a lecture about meds; and she asked me to get her comfrey and calendula ointment. I was agitated about the whole thing and called the nursing home telling them I wanted her in the hospital. That's where she ended up today! She also asked for homemade vegetable soup (like her mom made). And that's how my New Year begins...making soup...for body and soul.
Love this New Year!
Trish~~
Dearest Trish,
your mom seems to be a wonderful lady with a will of her own :) But then... so are you :)))
I am praying for your mom's radiant health and well being, and for this challenge to show you both whatever it is you need to see and bring even more peace, love and serenity in your lives.
Trish and Mieke, see you both at midnight, in peace and love!

Hello Mieke and everyone!
Th
"What is Your Intention"
What would you do?
What kind of work would you do - if any?
Where would you live?
What kind of relationship would you have?
How would you feel?
Just ask and you shall be given. I have received everything I needed with the emphasis on "needed" to create my heaven on earth for the last 30 years.
I do what I want
I have the work I like
I live where I want to live
I have the relationship I want
How do you think that feels?
Heavenly :)
