What is the difference between EQ (Emotional Intelligence) and IQ? Do they have different brain wave patterns? Can EQ evolve the human species?

Emotions are a response to what already happened. If a parent has a valid emotional reaction upon revisiting or being reminded of a past experience, then I would think such a situation is ripe for communication to offspring. In the same way a parent can teach someone how to swing a baseball bat, a parent can help a child learn 'how to deal'. EQ, I believe, is passed on. IQ is a narrow test that ignores many valid intelligences. Also, I believe that someone can be "emotionally evolved". This kind of person almost always has Love actively in their life.

This is a great question.

Dear Trish, three questions, difficult to answer in a few words!

Moreover, i can only answer them from own experience and believe. So the answers are coloured :)

Emotional Intelligence is the discovery of the fact that one has the choice: either fight one's emotions or accept them.
The first choice is the easiest but hurts, not only oneself but also the environment.
The second choice is more difficult but by accepting the emotions, one more easily finds a way to deal with them adequately.
And then gradually one develops emotional intelligence.

EQ and IQ have in my view different brain wave patterns because the first has much more to do with feelings and the latter with reason. Yet they are intertwined and never can be seen seperated from one another. My experience and opinion :)

I had a general education that only afterwards enabled me to develop a very broad interest. In other words, i had no education in exact sciences.

So, associating, putting two and two together, has been something i had to teach myself. I have done that by means of programming games on the computer. A simple programming language in those days (the beginning of the 90's) that teached me the ifs and thens of action and reaction :)

I always used my EQ too, so i came up with totally different games than the usual that are so popular.

EQ alone cannot evolve human species, it has to be an ensemble or teamwork of EQ and IQ.
First in yourself and then together with others.

Well, my rambling. I tried to raise my children in this way. Result: they have a tough time in this society!

Dear Trish,
all I know is that it has to be mind AND heart for those who work from the mind, and heart AND mind for those who work from the heart.

EI is concerned with management of emotions... perhaps saying how 'mature' a person is ... although I don't see how that can be judged as eventually there is no 'right' or 'wrong' ..

IQ I believe is the 'application of knowledge gained'... mostly logic... many IQ tests are biased as they are based in English...
I don't believe though that a person can be assigned an IQ.. because I think anyone who can clear his/her mind completely can have a very high IQ... I have seen this with myself over the years, when I am very centered, calm, and have been meditating, I do much better on IQ tests as the perception is much clearer and as if the answers keep coming themselves...

Point: “naturally bonded” IQ and EQ lead us to defy boundaries, to continually seek a broader perspective and embrace a bigger picture. Perhaps that’s why madrasas, church schools and other single view organizations try to overcome the very nature of children by using repetition of a limited amount of specific information… to stifle both EQ and SQ.

A balance is nice. Excersize both. Chess, a crossword. Dance, paint.

If you are having an emotional problem, calming down and using your logical self can help.
If you are having a logistical problem, stepping away, doing a little dance or taking a hike may bring about an answer

This question is on the same topic as Deepaks post on Purple.

Left. Right. Ying. Yang.
Left half of the brain, right half of the brain. Both are your friends. The left half isn't the 'man', it's in your head, literally. There is a big buisness in your head! Like Wal-mart. The right half isn't a weakness, it's human, it's your grandchilden, but now. Don't wait until your grandchildren are born to get yourself ready to enjoy them. Being silly isn't silly at all, and there is no such thing as grown up.

Make friends with both sides of your brain, and don't judge them or their thoughts. Gently break up their fights, these noisy neighbors in your head. Give both these children your attention from time to time, or the negected one will revolt. It will get it's attention one way or another.

I see a Star Trek episode where they land on a planet with two races in constant conflict. One race has a gaint right half of their head, the other race as a gaint left half of their head. Prehaps there is a third race, called 'the happys'. They have enormous foreheads and eat lots of chocolate.
