Rex Weyler shares with us information of his latest book The Jesus Sayings: The Quest for His Authentic Message
Not all of the words attributed to Jesus were actually spoken by him, nor did he teach every doctrine taught in the Christian traditions. The canonical gospels mix fact with legend, and many of Jesus' sayings were lost for 2,000 years, buried in the Egyptian desert by faithful adherents. So what did Jesus, or Yeshua, as his followers knew him, really teach?
In The Jesus Sayings, writer, historian, and religion commentator Rex Weyler reviews recent archaeology and some 200 ancient texts that shed astonishing light on the authentic words and deeds of Jesus. Weyler shows how the authentic Jesus message is as useful today as ever:
• Find the light inside yourself, and share this with the world
• Give to anyone who asks; generosity creates abundance
• We achieve spiritual grace not through obedience to religious law, but from our own compassionate acts
The Jesus Sayings reveals astonishing insights about Jesus and his followers:
• The first Jesus followers weren't “Christians.” Like Jesus, they were peasant Jews with naturalist beliefs and pagan traditions.
• Jesus borrowed freely from worldly wisdom (Taoism, Buddhism, Cynic philosophers)
• The Jewish Bible mentions many deities, including goddesses
• The names “Nazarene” and “the Magdalene” have nothing to do with towns. They are titles of honour given to extraordinary public leaders.
“Weyler liberates the historical Jesus in this solid re-telling of the diversity, politics, and mythology behind the origins of Christianity. There is integrity and trustworthiness in this author. Read this book.”
– Mathew Fox, author of One River, Many Wells and Original Blessing
“High points in readability, relevance and insight. Weyler shows us that Jesus still has the power to inspire, and that it is up to us to make sure this inspiration draws out the best in humanity, and not the worst.
– Pacific Rim Review of Books, Steve Black
“Rex Weyler is a master journalist, who brings us face to face with the Jesus who walked the earth, changed western civilization, and remains relevant to modern readers.”
– John Izzo, Ph.D., author of The Five Secrets You Must Discover before You Die
“Weyler takes his readers on a historical tour of the ancient sources, describing the earliest accounts of the life and message of Jesus. Weyler has done his research and is a great storyteller.”
– The Gazette, Montreal, Lorenzo DiTommaso

Ain't it always up to us?
This Intent Blog in my opinion has fulfilled its purpose.
All we are doing now is repeating that what has already been revealed in the beginning year 2005.
“” • Find the light inside yourself, and share this with the world
• Give to anyone who asks; generosity creates abundance

Dear Rex,
I would like to give you the same reply as I gave Deepak after reading a (rather long) free excerpt of his book:
Can you sympathize with me? Yes I can and with all those other religions, cultures, symbols, etc. etc. In my opinion they all tell the same. And you know what ?
Despite all political, environmental, psychological, philosophical and religious debate, the majority of humanity is just living on, knowing all this already inside :). And acting like it!!
In Europe we HAVE inspired our children in this way.
I guess we only have to choose this perception everywhere to be where we all want to be :)
In my view it is not so difficult, we are already there, if we only shift our perception.
Love, Mieke
Well stated, Mieke. Thanks.
This is a book that needed to be written!
The focus should be on the MESSAGE of the Christ and that comes across brilliantly in the book.
There has been much controversy lately, as to the existence of Jesus as a man. Whether or not the physical Jesus existed in history is irrelevant. For those who believe, the message can be easily accepted. Those, who do not believe, can accept that a character has been created to convey a message of LOVE.
It works either way!

Hi Rex,
I have been a Greenpeace fan for decades but never knew you were interested in Jesus and his sayings. Did you have a calling or a moment of enlightenment? Did anything special happen in your life in 2007?
Maybe I am completely mistaken but I don’t think any of your previous books were about anything close to religious doctrines.
Then on April 22, 2007 came your wonderful:
Ordinary Courage
Earth Day Sermon
Rex Weyler
Unitarian Church of Vancouver
In that sermon you talk about “Divine Kingdom, here and now” and touch on the teachings of different religions.
In your opinion, does religion help or hinder in what we all must realise sooner than later: “The global economy cannot double every 24 years forever. The planet cannot absorb or feed 75-million more humans – eight New York cities – every year. None of this is remotely sustainable”.
For what it is worth, I think religion is part of the problem rather than the solution for the sustainable future of mankind.
