Why Jesus Lost the Nomination

Intent - March 05, 2008

An article by Deepak Chopra in the Washington post in response to their question: If the historical Jesus were running for president, what kind of candidate would he be? Republican or Democrat? For or against the death penalty, the Iraq war, abortion, etc.?

It is preposterous for anyone to even consider they might understand Jesus, let alone Jesus's way of thinking; other than what is documented in scripture, interpreted by men with often perverse ways of thinking unkind about women and children and the poor, elderly; as servants to men!

Love,
North

The only thing funnier is reading some the of right-wing websites talk about what kind of gun Jesus would carry, or what kind of job Jesus would have in a capitalist society (and they always pick "a banker" for some reason. . . ).

Har har: funny stuff!

peace all

Yes, that was fun to read, as I really enjoyed it.

Love, Char

The first thing Jesus has to do to run a campaign is get a shave and a haircut. And some real clothes for crying out loud.

And it wouldn't hurt if he stopped sleeping on the ground every night, or even got a house for himself...

Oh yeah - and quit hanging around with a prostitute - what kind of family values is that?

Oops, the quote about money is wrong (it's the love of money and it comes from Paul, not jesus).

But it is a fun article.

Fear not, Neo and Trinity are entering the Matrix!

Lol... finally a kind of politics that makes sense...

A playful response to the question from Deepak.

A Jesus like character would not run for president and would not associate the self with any specific labels or fictional frameworks.

This character would spend most of the time communicating as would the Apostles delivering messages while trying to bring attention to the message not so much to themselves. They would be more thought leaders than nation leaders.

Playing the role of president this character might be limited in what they could say and lose certain other freedoms available with anonymity and not holding a formal position.

Of course you might find leaders seeking the advice of this character and the Apostles; they could also speak the things some might dare not say, which would allow others to point to what was said without the repercussions of having said it themselves.

No doubt one would find many people listening to these apostles, and it is those people that have the ultimate say and the only real power to implement change through their collective intent. There would be no obstacle they could not transcend.

#4 sounds like me to a T . . .

down to the concrete floor even!

And as for #5 Paula was always a good person (wonder what ever happened to her), and I also personally knew (but not "knew" knew) two of the many prostitutes killed by Spokane's serial prostitute killer;

so can I at least get a John the Baptist over here!!!!!!

har

pax vobiscum

Deepak,

Here is my opinion: Jesus was a very opinionated man and would have absolutely no problem with the 2 parties competing each other. Do you think he is too "peaced out" to handle some healthy debate? Have you read the passages in the bible where he stands up to crowds of people or gets angry at the money changers in the temple? I don't think a man as opinionated as he is would find it problematic that this country has 2 different parties--Jesus knew there would always be division between people--his message was to seek out the truth, not get rid of competing viewpoints. My opinion from reading this article is that you are viewing him as way too much of a hippy when he is actually was not like that. I would like to read your book to find out more, but I will be sad if you painted him that way. Olivia

Yogi-one,

Mary Magdalene was not a prostitute--there was another Mary in the bible who was a prostitute but the one Jesus hung around with was a different Mary. The Church admitted (sometime in the 1060's I believe) that it lied and said that Mary Magdalene was the "prostitute Mary" mentioned elsewhere in the bible in order to diminish her status as a spiritually enlightened healer. Although I don't really think that their lie took away from the story it may have actually improved it in some way. I guess sometimes "fiction is stranger than the truth".

Also, did Jesus actually say "resist not evil"? Cause it seems to me that he frequently resisted evil--his statement "let he who is perfect cast the first stone" was a way of resisting evil. In fact much of what he did was a way of actively resisting evil. I am not saying I agree with the war in Iraq; however, I do disagree with painting Jesus as a passive peacenik--only b/c it is an oversimplification of who he was.

I wonder where Judas would be in the administration. Secretary of the Treasury, maybe. He would probably sell out his President by working behind his back to get a Carbon Tax passed to fund social programs. When Jesus said "the poor you will have with you always, how long are you going to have me?" at a Cabinet meeting to laughter that just sent the self rightous Judas into a silent rage.
