My office is about two blocks from the edge of campus (University of Texas), and recently I’ve taken to walking through campus on my lunch hour. I do this for two reasons:
superficially, because I need more exercise, but more so because everyone/everything seems more alive over there, and the “juice” is intoxicating. It makes the second half of my work day much sweeter.
No one from the office comes with me, though I’ve extended many invitations. “It’s too hot out.” “It’s too cold.” “My hair…” “My makeup…” (Sigh… I know! Me too!)
Now, if I were really going out drinking at lunch, I’m sure I could find people to join me. I could probably put together a foursome in under five minutes. It wouldn’t even be hard.
I’m thinking this is one of those things you can’t force on other people, but I hope to have company one day so we can both come back to work drunk. We don’t have much spring-time left before the sweltering summer days are here.

I think it depends on the walking partner. Someone who can be present and enjoy the experience would be great. On the other hand someone who will waste your whole walk complaining about the job, or blabbing away unconsciously is not needed.
Maybe existence is handing you a half hour of alone time so you can get recharged through a walking meditation.

Hmmmm, what's that mean? Maybe our future is going in a direction that we don't want to see? Are we feeling something that could come?
Anyway the path is not straight but curving like a flower petal, with a centrifugal hand out to touch the void.
On this walk back to natural-resources (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natural_resources)
I was happy, yes it's strange but real
I was happy to see my ignorance and to feel back the vivid-innocence (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Innocence).
A funny 5 minutes true-concentration...

I thoroughly enjoy my solitary walk-abouts. For me it is a form of contemplation. It is amazing the things you become aware of when you just walk without talking.

Grace, I know this isn't the right place to ask you this but do you know of any good places in Austin where I could fine wall clocks for home?

Hi Grace,
I agree. Walking during a work break is a magical time. You never know what will whisper in your ear or catch your eye. Yes, the experience holds different "juice" than what is contained within four walls of an office. When you do find someone to walk with you both get to share the beauties of nature and breathe fresh air. Either way it's a win/win.
To find a walking partner perhaps you need to extend an invitation to a broader audience -- beyond your office. It's a chance to get creative and use your imagination.
I brought a large red blossom from a walk into the office and put it in a bowl of water. Staff admired and commented on it. It's these subtle things that speak to people whether they know it or not.
Yes, walks and flowers are boring to those who like more gross activities such as drinking to dis-associate from this world -- to get out of their bodies -- to get "high." It's superficial however. The Dalai Lama spoke about that here in Seattle. And this is why it's important for you to model something different...alone or not.
