Mallika Chopra - May 22, 2008
Reading today that Oprah was going on a detox program motivated me to write about mine!! I am on Day 5 of an 11 day detox program. For those that know me,
believe it or not, I have had no chocolate, no caffeine (well 1/2 cup of tea), no carbohydrates for 5 whole days!! Yes, me - Ms. Chocoholic, Caffeine Addicted Mallika!!
So why am I doing this?
Building our new site, Intent, has begun a new phase in my life. I am working formally again, am balancing the mommy/professional role, sleeping less, generally a bit more stressed. I found that my chocolate/sugar and caffeine regime began spiraling into a realm of craziness. 6 cups of tea, a cappuccino, chocolate chip cookie, a mixed berry scone daily... Not a heathy regime!
Combined with the fact that I am launching a wellness site (and should practice what I preach) and another birthday is approaching, health, longevity and wellness are on my mind. So when a friend of mine told me she did a detox program, I thought let me try.
Bets in my family had me lasting 1-3 days, and folks, here I am at the end of Day 5! I had to prove my husband and brother wrong!
I have to admit the first four days were a challenge - so much so that I decided not to blog about it, in case I didn't succeed. Dare I admit it, but today I feel great!!
So here's to Oprah for stating her detox program to the world, and challenging me to tell my story and put a public stake in the ground that I will make it through the next 6 days...

It feels heartening to hear that you have successfully completed four days of Detox and are on completion of successful 5th day of 11 days Detox program.
Please share with us something about this program.
Mallika I have one question:
Why should detox program be only about food?
Should not it include positive thoughts, positive behaviour, breathing exercises, yoga, pranayam?
Please share! Thanks!
Aloha Mallika
Your dad has a really good book, The Perfect Digestion. In the past I have given it to Clients. I found it very helpful. It is important to see the whole physical picture.
Another great book in understanding addiction, Getting Unstuck: Breaking Your Habitual Patterns and Encountering Naked Reality by Pema Chodron. It comes in audio, and great to listen in the car:)
I imagine with two little girls, a husband and new career, your plate is very full. I know being a mother, grandmother.. sometimes a pick up is needed. Be light on yourself. Dr. Fuhrman suggests green smoothies. Get in the habit of preparing healthy snack packs for when you feel you need to grab something. Food is the hardest addiction. And your not alone:) love patty

There is a place
Between a linear road
And blurred sea
A place I invite you to see
A front-table of low-background colors
Plus a contre-jour wood-chair
Some people report two
A space for a drink and a short-fine communication
You see
Water and salt are the ingredients
Don't believe me and see
To the next cafe
A taste of strong-new and soft-excitement...
Ok, here is a new one. I got to yoga this weekend and hear about this book called Skinny Bitch. Yea, the title was wierd...BUT it is all apparently about healthy eating.
I read the first few pages on Amazon and it talked about Organic sulfite free wine...I love it! Anyone ever read this book?
Mallika, you should be coming to the end of your challenge here. I hope you will update us!
