- while the real villan goes undetected -

end resentments and watch yourself fly to freedom

I did get a laugh out of this comment. When one lists all the negative qualities of evil, resentment takes a special place but this observation is amusing to me. Sounds very misplaced somehow.

To me, resentment has a certain kind of justification. The poor resent the ease and comfort of the rich; thus, when the rich get caught for misdeeds often have no sympathy or empathy for them. I have never heard of a rich man ever resenting the poor for their abject poverty.

Case in point: While the Haitians eat mudpies, who in America can resent their efforts to feed themselves.

But it is easy to resent a verdict for OJ Simpson, an overly publicized athlete who is so obviously guilty but got off due to a strange kind of payback from people of his own race for crimes committed against their race by white people.

Their resentment over the ages made it an easy decision to give OJ a free pass when he should have been convicted. But fame bought his way out!

Should we resent that? I am not sure. It just shows that the system is not what it should be but at the bottom of it is the key word: resentment.

What is resentment? A thought.

What is a thought? Nothing

Resentment is like having bound yourself in hard iron ropes, and than trying to free yourself. The more you try, harder it becomes to free yourself.Suchitra,to fight our battles,we need to understand our enemy.Resentment can be overcome by its true understanding, and applying an antidote in form of understanding, first the person being resented, and at a deeper level, your own self, which is giving birth to this resentment.

A S Rai writes:

"Resentment is like having bound yourself in hard iron ropes,..."

*Strong iron chains* would be the proper usage.

"...,and th[e]n trying to free yourself. The more you try, harder it becomes to free yourself."

This works better with a metaphor of "quicksand" for resentment:

Don't try to pull yourself out, as you will sink further. Further, this makes the job harder for those trying to help you out.

Swami Muktananda's metaphor for "resentment" quoted by Suchitra Krishnamoorti is a great one. A S Rai uses a cliched and flawed metaphor of iron chains(ropes) and then talks about "antidote of understanding", mixing his metaphors to elaborate on the point suggested by Muktananda.

It's remarkable how much power a belief has over our experience. If we didn't believe in resentment...we could not experience it.

Resentment? What's that?

We have soo much "knowledge", but knowledge brings us further away from the Truth of who we are. More knowledge simply means more to dump.

When the mind is still...where is resentment? Where is fear? Where is anything or anyone? All disappears in a still mind....and harmony is revealed.

Hi Suchitra
"Resentment is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die"

First this made me laugh, the statement has classic comedic rhythm. It's a great line.
Then the truth behind it came out. It is also a very powerful statement. Yo

derek

Resentment comes from anger. But anger has two sides; it can either be corrosive or it can be a catapult to freedom.

b

Suchitra it is absolutely true.

Forgive!

Learn to Forgive!

Forgiveness can change an individuals life!

Forgiving everything and everybody including us can only remove resentment resulting in removal of poison and death.
