You Really Don't Need to Know If Cell Phones Cause Cancer

Alison Rose Levy - May 30, 2008

“Do cell phones cause brain cancer?”

This was the question that Larry King posed this week to Dena Cochran, the widow of Johnnie Cochran (who died of the disease). With Senator Edward Kennedy’s recent diagnosis, there’s been a swell of concern about this often terminal disease, and its potential link to cell phone use. King gathered a group of five doctors to respond and comment on the “Interphone study” in which thirty-five researchers from all over the world examined the correlation between cell phone use and brain cancer incidence.

In case you missed that hour long broadcast, I’ll provide a summary:

“Yes, cell phones do cause brain cancer,” said one noted physician.

“No, they don’t,” another assured King.

Some studies found a correlation. Others did not.
Since the different studies produced different results, the medical experts had to shrug and admit that they cancelled each other out.

So did the medical experts.

In this superb expression of “balanced reporting,” with tit and tat equally well matched, there was one inexorable conclusion:

We just don’t know. More studies needed.

The experts guesstimated a ten year wait for solid research outcomes.

Meanwhile, wear an earpiece, or holster and all will be well, they assured viewers as they waved the manufacturer’s instructions.

Say what? It’s either ten years of research or manufacturer’s instructions. Are the manufacturers making safety claims? Are they required to demonstrate safety? Or do we simply assume it?

Has any study demonstrated the protection attained by either ear pieces or holsters? Has anyone assessed whether radiating the region of the hips and sexual organs is preferable to radiating the brain? No? Well, then I guess it’s your call!

Don’t worry because it’s more important, most of the experts agreed, to pour millions of dollars into research for treatments for those who get the disease-- from causes unknown, unproven, or unconsidered-- rather than worry about a little thing called prevention.

Time to break for a pharmaceutical ad.

Now that we’re back, I can’t help but wonder, if the most important thing is finding treatments, then where was the outcry when the FDA tried to close down a Texas doctor who was successfully treating the disease? Oops—it was a novel integrative treatment that cured the disease in children. I guess that doesn’t count.

But the bottom line question is: While we’re waiting ten years to learn whether radiating RFs into the head (or the area adjacent to the genitals) is good or bad, is a little prevention in order?

Tough call. Without research, wouldn't it be presumptuous for you and me to take it upon ourselves to decide?

I salute those who courageously take the risk and apply the device daily in their confidence that tomorrow will bring definitive acute care treatments. More power to you!

But I must confess I prefer to apply the “precautionary principle,” a fancy version of the old (unproven) adage “better safe than sorry.”

If that makes sense to you, then, (according to an electrical occupational engineer with whom I spoke) you can minimize risk by doing any or all of the following:

• Turn off your cell phone when not in use
• Never sleep with your cell phone in the bedroom
• Avoid using your cell phone (or keeping it turned on) in the car, or for that matter, any other self-enclosed metal container
• If you feel your head heating up, end the call (even if you’re speaking to your beloved, boss, or mother)
• Use some form of headphone or earjack but not a blue tooth, which places the transistor right in your ear
• Live in an area out of reach of cell phone service

And hey, let’s not forget mobile telephones, internet wireless, and all those other technological goodies we’ve gotten so addicted to that life wouldn’t be complete without them. They’re emitting electromagnetic radiation too.

But there’s no reason to worry because so far, the studies haven’t proven anything. Yet.

Comments

This is an extract from the comment I've made in response to Deepak Chopras' post back in March.

http://www.intentblog.com/archives/2008/03/the_devil_is_in.html

''... I am surprised by your comments on the mobile-phone culture Deepak, knowing you are an endocrinologist by training ! You should be the one to bring attention to the dangers associated with the use of the mobile phones by our kids, especially during the time when the thyroid gland takes over and facilitates the growing of all bodily tissues. That's form the age of puberty to the man/womanhood !

Thyroid gland is a vehicle for the reception of the sonic vibrations throughout the whole body, and the mobile phones (at this stage) all suffer from the high level of harmful (toxic to the body) high-frquency vibrations which easily interfere with the complex membranes in the throat and the brain tissues. (Everyone who exposes themselves to long-duration calls know the feeling of the high-pitch inside the head.)...''

I wish to add that I have a couple of friends they both are japanese and both senior figures in the mobile phone industry.
They never carry mobile phones with them, nor do they encourage their own kids to do that.

With Love & Bliss

Perhaps the only thing that causes brain cancer might be worrying too much about this subject or whatever subject.

I received the message inside (from the heartphone) that it doesn't matter what you do, it is always alright. We are the species that want to explore, we are given the right to explore. Excessive use of whatever is probably not good for us. But it is up to every individual being to find his/her own middle way in this.

In the ground we are consciousness. Consciousness will never cease to exist. I have experienced a Big Bang and i still exist :)

I have changed my profile on typekey. I am now not commenting as a comma anymore but as the name of my own website.

Hi Igor and Alison, electromagnetic vibrations and radiation are everywhere in our universe. I believe that what you radiate you receive back.

Love from the heartphone,

Mieke

Heartphone or mobile phone.....I know which one I trust with my whole life.
We attach pre-conditions to our stay here on Earth and then have to invent 'lookalike' external systems in order to fulfil the conditional. I see the paradox and do not wish to appear judgemental, but I also see the dreadful irony.

Dear Igor,

I agree with you. As is the usual case, the dangers from new devices, medications, food additives, etc. are not disclosed in a timely manner (usualy involving many years) and they do great harm in the meantime. I would much rather err on the side of caution. I believe that we are constantly being bombarded by electromagnetic frequencies from too many sources.

I also believe that cell phones are dangerous distractions from normal daily pursuits which should incorporate concentration. Cell phones definitely inhibit a person's attention while driving a car. The noise factor is also a concern because people do not generally use discretion about where or when to use them. They are a nuisance. Just today I walked past a friend at the store. We were two feet apart and she was so involved in her conversation on her cell phone that she never even saw me.

Best Wishes,

"Betsy" S.

# 2, Dear Mieke, indeed everything is electromagnetic vibrations in our universe, yet when this approach is used we are in danger of mixing apples with pears, and Ed is right the dreadful irony is no longer funny.

''When a child puts his hand into the flames it is our responsibility to save him from the harm'' Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

If someone think, the child will learn from the experience of burning his hand, or else there is no pain since everything is an illusion, well let them not handle the kids, least they think again. It is that what my comment was Mieke. Don't forget there are times to throw and there are times to collect... there are times to be philosophical and there are times to be practical.

The state of a realized is parental towards everything, even though he/she knows nothing is ever born and nothing ever dies. Let us not confuse our priority and responsibility with our knowledge and experience dear friend.

With Love & Joy

igor

P. S. Congratulations with the launch of the website, looking forward to explore it.

# 4, Dear Betsy, that's right. We should not forget the mobile industry is the fastest and most profitable one since the invention of TV and computers earlier, yet it is by far more lucrative so it will be well ''protected''. Tobacco business is the same and we know how long it took to fight that battle, though people are still dying from smoking related cancer in one year exceeding the total losses of life in Vietnam war.

Here is another quote from my comment to Deepak's post in March, to illustrate the futility of technological excitement.

''....Can one seriously think technology facilitates fast road to evolution ? Martin Heiddeger noted: '' Technology takes us further away from the experience of Being. ''...''

Yes, technology makes our live seemingly easier for it gives us this false sense of security and the ability to connect at the click of a finger. When in fact it robs us from the real connection, from being here and now.

Call me a man of the past, who cares, I long for the day when our culture will not be measured by how well its wired, but how well it can unwind itself from the gadgets, and further attachments they bring.

Anyway, its time for a morning cap of sencha... from a ceramic bowl as old and as beautiful as ever. Lets hope no ring will interrupt serenity of this moment.

The one thing I deplore about all of this is the individual who will not take responsibility for his own actions. Such as in the cigarette battle to win bucks due to an addiction or habit that that person could have stopped had he wished to stop. I say that because I stopped of my own accord cold turkey and I maintain that anyone else can do so too.

So it is with cell phones, text messaging, computers, all high tech apparatus...we all have to take responsibility for our own actions no matter what the medical industry says, the high tech industry says, because in the end, the person who is responsible for the gadget in the home is the individual him or herself.

My one concern that the youth of the world are being trained in dependency. None will be able to become self reliant if a computer, a telephone, a gadget does all the work for him. Children should learn the basics of simple arithmetic without having to depend upon a computer to figure it out for them. I notice that most cash registers do all the work any more in making change, and with debit cards and credit cards, nobody wants to deal with hard cold cash anyway.

But with so many cautionary measures and fears in our society, I wonder that we don't wash and cleanse our dollar bills and coins at the end of each evening. Passing from hand to hand as readily as they do, why couldn't they be the agents of disease too?

As for the cell phone, only large numbers of hours would ever cause any kind of serious damage, and I suspect that means only teenagers are truly at risk.

But I appreciated the advice on the bluetooth at the ear. Thanks for the tip.

Hi Igor,

Thank you for your thoughtful comments.

For me the paradox lies in the fact that one can be protective and one can be overprotective.

It is the experience(s) in ones own life that make us think and act.

I have been overprotected at a certain age in my life and sadly enough during my teens.

I am only too glad to have been made aware of the fact that I and I alone am responsible for everything I do.

Living with paradoxes is the art of living for me and I extensively explained this on my website.

Thanks you for your interest :)

Jai Guru Deva,

Mieke

There is not really a cause or causes for cancer..

Cancer exists as long as the body exists..

To be born is to also have Cancer. The possibilty of it exists in you right now and needs not a cause to happen or may even happen because it seemed like a cause.

At the same time I do not expect mankind to give up her quest for Immortality as if she was not immortal already.

In the book of Genisis Adam and Eve hide from God as he comes through the garden after eating from the tree of knowledge. Then the story goes something along the lines of god asking them "How do you know you are naked / Who told you these things?"

This Metaphorical tale shows the reader with a ready mind that in the beginning Mankind was Immortal because they did not have any concepts other than Being.

We are still paying for the sin of eating from the tree of knowledge in the sense that knowing the seperate self means to suffer.

When one forgets what was learned from the tree of knowledge then the Garden of Eden will reopen for you.

Alison, you have a discerning mind. I suggest in the long term we work to develop telepathy seems most cost effective and natural. Of course that could happen if we all became one.

There is a simple improvement if not solution. Build more cell towers. This reduces the energy requirements of the system allowing for cell phones to use less energy to communicate.

Maybe Larry King should have me on the show so we can talk about solutions to the world’s problems, for example magnesium for violence and depression and lack of energy.

I think the irony is that Senator Kennedy is supposedly very powerful in congress, and I am sure from some perspectives this is true.

But what is power?

I sit here knowing the solution to his brain tumor issue, but does he or those he chooses to advise him have the knowing?

A solution that is documented to have worked causing a bit of consternation amongst the doctors that were treating, while their approach was at the same time proven not to work.

Back to Kennedy, because of the greed of some he does not know the solution. There is one here who does. If he is really powerful then shouldn’t he be able to find the solution? When it exists and is available? Do you think that he would have such a friend or a friend of a friend that would steer him to it?

If Kennedy and all of congress and the media for that matter, supported the new consciousness approach to health, not one that profits from disease, and focuses on the most profitable approach, but rather the most optimum approach, one using natural biochemistry, to maintain health and enhance, then all could mostly avoid the disease they see around them.

Then again if nature through the evolutionary process culls lower consciousness promoting evolved consciousness it would make perfect sense that those with the ego dominant mind succumb to disease. Those that were of evolved consciousness would find the links to information that would extend their life spans and the quality of life and true health.

The only thing standing between humanity and the end of disease is ignorance impaired ego.

Most of the stuff I am talking about, the solutions have been posted here on Intent Blog. Of course it doesn’t have all the detail but a good bit. I guess one would need to search the site for it.

I think I will send Ted Kennedy a telepathic message, that the improvement if not the solution to his issue lay here.

One interesting side thought is that some tumors produce suppress the growth of other tumors, yet the doctors cut them out or destroy them. Is this common sense? Maybe they are an immune response?

In summary the optimum methods of dealing with disease are low profit, so there is no money to be made by the corporate sector in researching them or investing in them. If we entrust our health considerations to the corporate sector what type of product and science are we to expect to come from this? One guided by profit.

The solution is that health protocols should be a collective effort (government, public sector) in our approach to disease where profits are not the impetus but rather optimum health is the impetus.

So the current system flaw and perhaps the greatest contributing factor to the proliferation of disease is that the private sector is entrusted as the health authority rather than the public sector.

This is not to say the private sector cannot make valuable contribution with diagnostics and biochemical enhancement rather than perpetuating chronic conditions that provide long term revenue streams.

There is a definite conflict of interest here that needs to be resolved.

Hi Simon,

In the beginning this Intentblog was a kind of Garden of Eden.

It slowly but surely has evolved in its counterpart.

What a paradox :)

Love, Mieke

I have been reading your book lately, Simon. A very colourful and fantastic tale!

To me (and how could this be otherwise), it is starting to be a real "Hero's labyrinth" :).

There is a website about the hero's labyrinth where people can upload their stories and I do believe your story would be a good one for people :

http://www.mcli.dist.maricopa.edu/smc/journey/index.html

It might be worthwhile to have a look there.

Love and thank you for a good read!

Mieke

Hi Mieke,

I am glad you are enjoying reading it.

Aloha Everyone

I am grateful for the topic of cancer came up and hopefully they will disclose the polio vaccine that millions were inoculated was contaminated. Ed Haslam connects President Kennedy's assignation in part of was a cover up, of the fact that the vaccine that was grown on the kidneys the monkeys had SV40. Just google SV40 or click my name for Ed Haslam's page. His book is an excellent read, but you can gather enough information from his site or other sites. Who hasn't been touched with a loved one with cancer. It is time the White House comes clean. love patty

Dear patty,

I am sure It is sad that a person is not around any more to grace your life with Joy; especially when that persons death was premature due to an accident or negligence and so forth.

There is how ever one thing that is absoloutly certain and that is that this state of existence we are currently experiencing is of a none permenant nature.

Death may come around in countless different forms but the end result is the same and that is that the body is no longer functioning and the spirit will then be without body form.

Obviously life is precious; also the causes of death if are preventable must be prevented.

When all is said and done there will always be people dying and people who are touched by that death as you say.

Is not better then for us to have a better understanding of death?

Instead of death destroying/touching everything we are attached to can we not know that death is an unavoidable process of the spirit?

Is death from the spirits view point really a sad event? or is it something that we have associated sadness with?

Death isn't going to go away otherwise you see?

In case you are wondering my Father had Cancer.

In fact a much truer statement is to say we all have Cancer; it just isn't killing some us right this moment or indeed may not be the cause of our death but it is present still the same as an unmanifested possibility.

Love

Aloha Simon

I am sorry for your loss of your father. What happens with the cancer is that it is embedded. It lies dormant. It is important for the truth to come out. And I understand there is only Life:) and all life matters. Forgiveness is the greatest weapon there is for it is a love that lasts forever for it asks for nothing in return. If Ted Kennedy forgave the U.S. Government and Health Administration, I know he would be healed in a Holy Instant. It is in the power of Ho'Oponpono for I am that I am. love patty

Oh... and also the Mafia.. as the CIA and Mafia worked together at that time... As who know who is who? I don't know if you have watched on best online documentaries: Guns, Germs and Steel. You can click my name for the link. Why do you think in every hospital in the US, they inoculate new born babies with the Hep B vaccine? In the NorthWest they had purchased blood that was from the jails in India and Asia. Only a small percentage of people had Hep B, and getting ready for a breakout. Vaccines are big business. love patty

Death has been conquered
Life itself overgrows bounds
Love jumps at the chance

Thanks Patty,

Where I am concerned it is hard to define "loss"

In reality you would need to have something before it can be lost or taken away from you. If you really take the time to look at what a person is - You would eventually understand that they are something that you do not own at all. They are not really yours. Even your own body is merely on loan to you from the elements and them in turn will eventually move off to another place when this world is over. If you focus past this loan and look directly at the tennent of the body you will feel that that has a permenance about it that will be exactly that thing when this shell of a body falls away.

In the bigger picture loss is not even relevent next to endless creativity and limitless possibility.

I know that does not fit in very well with the every day world for most people.

When it comes to death you are either a sufferer of Death or a realiser of it. Yet in both cases an experiencer.

Caring for those in need is great work and brings that little bit more happiness into the world for us all to experience. I support you in this and find much happiness myself in seeing those in pain find contentment through the love given to them by others. Thank you for anything you can do as a creator to make a difference here and there.

PS: actually my Father did not die from Cancer but almost died and has never fully recovered but is enjoying himself just the same.

Didn't Jesus tell the barren tree to grow fruit and tree did? Universes created five minutes ago are a wonder of: More will come and fool I am to know anything:)".... give it a try.. it is like Deepak shares, "When you go to the movie, after you leave the movie still stays with you."

Aloha Mieke

I saw a wonderful dvd, The Diving Bell and Butterflylove. love patty

oops sorry Mieke.. That is The Diving Bell and Butterfly... It changes the perspective of communication... love patty

Hello Patty,

"Didn't Jesus tell the barren tree to grow fruit and tree did?"

He might of, but as I was not there so I couldn't swear to it.

;-)

On a Cosmic scale the Universe may even be less than five minutes old. That is the pointlessness in discussing these topics because scale and concepts are totaly dependent on the one who is making the observation.

Infinity is the possibility of all observations at every level. If you can put your attention on that notion then "From here to there and at what time" is totaly invalid at the highest level.

When you go to the movie and then leave... your Interpritation stays with you. What has been taken in through the senses has stimulated you and is then bouncing around as bundles of information.

It is funny because why I said you have a scary mind is because a male friend of mine and myself were recently having a really off the planet discussion about the Universe. He happened to comment that he did not know any women who had conversations about that subject (I disagreed) and he wondered if it was totaly a male thing. This was about a week or so ago and since then i have been watching and listening for a female to talk about similar stuff to prove that to him.

Love

I don't know about you guys but Sometimes I really just wish that Homer Simpson were real for one day so that we could go and get this whole meaning of life and the mystery of the Universe business straightened out once and for all.

If Homa doesn't know then nobody will!

Aloha Simon

I heard something just last night... I think it went like this: Bill Moyer asked Joseph Campbell.. "So life is about finding out the meaning of life?" and Joseph Campbell said.." Noooo life is about experiencing life.":)

And Neale Donald Walsh too.. had said, "It is not about figuring out the mystery of life, but realizing it is a mystery." And as Deepak has shared it is fun, trying to figure it out:)

And imagine he has created a way for that to happen beyond our imagination. The gift of nano.. is there is a lot a room at the bottom where all the Homer Simpson's reside:) The only requirement is some questions, only God can answer. The gift of kiss keeping is simple.. were back to that Tree:)

Love patty hoping you have a wonderful day... And much love to your father.

are you from Hawaia by any chance?

How is Dog the Bounty Hunter?

Thanks for the love and wishes for me and my dad. Is there any chance that as well as wishing us love and happiness with projection could you also wish that we win the Lotto this Saturday?

LOL

Thanks

I dunno who those guys are that you mentioned above bu one of thm seems like he knows his onions when it comes to the meaningof life.

I heard something similar the other day when my friend said.....

"It is not the getting there that we should be concerned with... it is the going"

I live on the island of Oahu which is one of the islands of Hawaii. I am not sure if I am on the island that will survive the earth changes:) I think our option is to learn to live under water:) Hopefully it will get cleaned up. On the island of Hawaii, the big island is where the volcano is still erupting. Coast to Coast put up some pictures someone took a couple weeks ago. We get some vog every so often. Some people have had to move off the big island because of the sulfur.... Well take care being in the going:) just keep looking up.. you are loved beyond measure. love patty
