Blazing New Trails, Exploring New Possibilities
Never in a million years did I think I would be a Trailblazer.

I didn't give much thought to what the word meant until one day when someone used the term to describe me and then I looked it up in the dictionary. I don't get hung up on labels. Personally, I look at the potential and quality of energy or archetypal pattern. What is a trailblazer? The dictionary's definition is: "One that blazes a trail. An innovative leader in a field; a pioneer."

As I look back from birth to the present moment, I can see how my life has been guided by a higher loving energy; God, Universe, the Divine, whatever you call the higher benevolent energy. From a very early age (before the age of three), I could recall a deep connection to a infinitely intelligent, non-physical divine energy; it was a feeling more than a thought. I had a strong spiritual pulse that moved through me and lifted me into a blissful state.

By society's or culture's definition, I was not a "normal" child. I certainly didn't fit into the traditional cookie cutter mold. As I grew up, I remember questioning everything about life, relationships, ritual, tradition and culture. I'm pretty sure it drove my parents and family members a bit crazy. But I wanted to know the meaning behind why we did what we did. I got these answers; "Shh, just do it. This is how it has always been done." or "I'm not sure, but this is what we are supposed to do." Those answers didn't satisfy me, because it felt like something important was missing from them.

As I began my own quest as a spiritual seeker, over time the realization grew, that I was on a course to break free from old worn out ways and discovered a new path with innovative ways. A path that honors both the wisdom of the past and is on the leading edge of modern times. Needless to say, this adventure of going outside the "norm" shook up the status quo within my family, culture and circle of friends.

I don't recall ever saying: "Yes, I'm a trailblazer what's next?" There was never a clear cut decision on my part to create a new path, yet I didn't mesh with the old way of existing either. What I found myself able to do, was open up and surrender to the Divine. Once I surrendered, I was more willing to be shown and guided towards the next step. I felt an internal empowering compass come online more noticeably than before. A real sense of security and energy was present. In letting go of something old, a fresh awareness or gift became evident. A highly intelligent, immensely wise, all loving energy (which is often referred to as Atman, Holy Spirit, Consciousness, The Transmission Energy, Soul, Shakti) was and still is guiding me as well as helping me navigate my life. Hopefully, you will see, feel and know this benevolent force guiding you too and come to a similar conclusion.

Now imagine the theme song in Mission Impossible and the line: "This is your mission if you should choose to accept it..." I choose to accept it. Even though I didn't know what "it" was. My feeling and sense guided me; I had faith mixed with uncertainty. The new path had mystery, challenge and excitement all wrapped up in one interesting package.

Walking this path was a total risk and I had no map to follow. As I began to carve out a new path, sometimes I went kicking and grumbling and other times joyfully humming. There was a feeling of being in a dark void at times and it was filled with anxiety, low self-confidence and plenty of what if's. The only thing for certain was that once I acknowledged myself as a Soul evolving, the the pieces of this new life began to form.

Each of us has this 'archetypal' pattern of being a trailblazer and it has the potential to be expressed somewhere in our life. Some choose to manifest and embody this quality of energy while in others it remains dormant until the time of activation. For some, it will never truly be expressed; it will more likely stay buried. Trailblazers can be found in: medicine, cooking, electronics, farming, business, domestic affairs, child-raising, education, publishing, art, beauty, film and other such areas. Being a trailblazer does not have to be something that is broadcast on television, nor does it mean that you have to invent the next vaccine. The archetype may be expressed publicly or privately, in your own home or local community. My perspective is that being a trailblazer comes in all shapes, sizes and forms. Its the essence or energy that matters and the form is secondary. No matter what, seek to express it from your heart and use your wisdom to guide you.

Let me tell you right up front, it may not be all peaches and cream. There are a ton of trials and tribulations. You may laugh, weep and scream - sometimes all in the same hour. You may wish you were never a trailblazer and wonder what the heck you are doing. People may look at you with crazy stares, while others may talk about you behind your back. Some may doubt you at each corner, never mind the fact that you doubt yourself!

By the way being a trailblazer does not keep you looking pretty and in pristine condition all the time. There may be times you get into the goop from head to toe, the hair gets frizzy, covered in slime, grit under your fingernails and covered in perspiration. You get the picture. It's funny with a mixture of seriousness added in. The journey is similar to a trek through the amazon jungle, with a backpack - mosquitoes, leeches, parasites and gnats included. A map has yet to be created. Humor is a must have and should not be excluded.

In terms of a rhythm and cycle of movement, there is an appropriate time to take action and other times to be still. You get a chance to be inventive, creative and be an active participant on the journey. There is an opportunity to express qualities such as courage, confidence, integrity, peace, joy, fortitude, patience, and many more. You learn to approve of yourself and no longer need the approval from anyone else. In the aftermath, when the trail has been created and other people venture onto it, is when you may get some type of recognition.

From my own experience, one thing I can assure you is that it is deeply fulfilling and exhilarating. Of course, as the journey of life continues there are still many adventures to experience. I am personally looking forward to seeing how magic may fill my path as I continue to express, create and blaze a new trail.

When we are highly inspired, by our spirit/soul/consciousness anything is possible. Mission Impossible theme song playing.... "This is your mission if you should choose to accept it." Are you ready to tap into your potential to become a trailblazer?
