Who Am I?

Richard Flyer - June 24, 2008

WHO AM l?

Bound to any group, clan or tribe to which I belong. Should I like you, for you are different from me.
I am loyal to, and will fight for a set of ideas, living in my country, surrounded by an imaginary boundary.

You don't come from my group, you must be less than a person, now I can kill you in war.

People say Human Beings have always fought among themselves, "that's human nature" we say, sitting there in a lethargic state, as the world becomes more complex at such a great rate. Will we destroy ourselves in a vicious cycle of retaliation with the latest weaponry, as long as we destroy the others, as many leaders tell us, for peace?

We are all of the same species, separated by misdirected loyalty.

If I say that I am a child of God and hold this higher loyalty first, and also a steward of the beautiful creation, Mother Earth---and a brother to all her varied peoples and life forms, many would probably laugh and call me a naive dreamer.

Tell me, does the old way work anymore?

International problems are only the emergent expression of the distorted perceptions and judgments happening each day within billions of human hearts. It continues.....

I am from the USA, you are from Iraq;
I am from Nevada, you are from Maine;
I am from Reno, you are from San Francisco;
I am a businessman, you are a construction worker;
I am a “Republican”, you are a “Democrat”;
I am a Yankees fan, you love the Giants;
I am a man, you are a woman;
I am white, you are black;
I am Jewish, you are Christian;
I am "middle class", you are "lower class";
I use Aim for cavities, what do you use, huh?

On and on, reduced to the absurd, until spirit and matter become the same anyway.

I am a slug, you are a mushroom, we live in a forest. You are different from me. We each have our own universe of things important to us, however, I need you for food, and you need me to move your spores. We are so different, and yet the same, both part of a larger system, the forest.

It is a wonderful paradox, autonomy and dependence, the necessary unity with all the participants free from impunity. There is so much diversity in the forest, yet all the creatures are bound to each other directly or indirectly in this fabric.

WHO AM l?
I am American, Chinese, Russian, underneath there is no country
I am black, brown, white, yellow, underneath there is no color
I am man and woman, underneath there is no gender
I am Liberal and Conservative, underneath there is no party politics.
I am Jewish, Christian, Muslim, underneath, the same Spirit animates each of us as children of God.

We each have our own universe of things important to us, and yet, I need you, and you need me, we strive for similiar goals. We are brothers and sisters of Earth. We are all different and yet the same, all part of a larger system, a small planet called Earth, part of the still greater Source of All.

It is a wonderful paradox, autonomy and dependence the necessary unity, with all the participants free from impunity. The world appears to be made up of many, many, differentiated forms, and we identify with them, forgetting that underneath is the One.

Are you ready to build a world that nurtures this diversity, and yet still unites people through the heart fellowship of Love and Service? Yes, you may feel this universal dream and soul longing---calling, calling us into relationship with the Creator of All and this sweet harmony ringing throughout creation, the mirror calling us into relationship with each other.

WHO AM l? I AM YOU.

I loved the poem! Thanks for sharing Richard. The line that touched my heart the most at this moment in time is .....

"I am Jewish, Christian, Muslim, underneath, the same Spirit animates each of us as children of God."

Love, Char

Richard,
Your reflections remind me of a wheel holding myriad parts and yet is one whole. Is identity on the surface, with the different spokes or at center point? Or is identity in the whole circle allowing motion/e-motion to move full circle?

Love the forest references...

Trish~~

Betsy #1,
