What a blessing, my lover came to me
I asked the night to keep our secret
But cant you see, said the night
You are holding the sun
How can I bring

hi there all,
was just reading through some comments and I came across this little pearl of wisdom...
"Clintonians for McCain are indeed closet racists"
to the author I would only point out this fact....there will be plenty of racists voting for McCain and plenty of racists for Barak Obama it will be an equal opportunity election...for sure....

hmmmm...I think there are plenty of racists who are in love with both candidates....head over heels, "in love."...in fact, I am quite sure of it.
no need to squabble about it though....it is an equal opportunity political event...

Georgia Logothetis: Game Over
'Most of you are familiar with Godwin's Law, the notion that if you rely on Hitler or Nazi comparisons in a debate, you automatically lose that debate.
The general election has brought us The POW. The POW is used frequently by the McCain camp and Republicans to deflect from valid criticism of John McCain's politics and policies:
"When the Rev. Kirbyjon Caldwell, a close Bush ally, publicly questioned McCain’s marital infidelities, the McCain campaign responded by highlighting McCain’s background as a prisoner of war.
When Dems attacked McCain’s healthcare plan in May, McCain responded by noting his background as a prisoner of war.
Asked by a local reporter about the first thing that comes to his mind when he thinks of Pittsburgh, McCain responded by talking about his background as a prisoner of war.
Accused of possibly having heard the questions in advance of Rick Warren’s recent candidate forum, the McCain campaign responded by highlighting McCain’s background as a prisoner of war."
As with Goodwin's Law, the utterance of "POW!" this campaign season is a surefire sign that it's game over for the Republican trying to defend John McCain. After all, if you can't respond with substance, but rather have to resort to raising an issue McCain himself has previously said shouldn't be exploited in a campaign, you're pretty much backed into a corner.
So what should we dub this diversionary tactic? McCain's Law? POW'd? Share your ideas below, and in the meantime, check out this brilliant video:

U.S. orchestrated Georgian war
CNN: Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has accused the United States of orchestrating the conflict in Georgia to benefit one of its presidential election candidates. In an exclusive interview with CNN, Putin said the U.S. had encouraged Georgia to attack the breakaway region of South Ossetia, triggering a Russian invasion.

yo, yo tipper...u know, u bitter, angry old man...u can pretend to be many and deny...feverishly... who u really are...but anyone who knows anything about anything knows u are that odd spoon-bending 'gem' (oops that shud be freak) who can never ever use his familiar alias "skeptisch"...on this site..again...and who will continually morph into weird blog names with the same identical personal attacks...i hope it makes u feel big and smart...
I think this is a bit passe now, and people have moved to other things, but it appears that the Russian establishment believes firmly that well-placed American politicians orchestrated the recent Georgia-Russia conflict to help "one of the candidates" in the forthcoming US election.
Well, at least, that's what Putin is saying on the CNN as per John #20 --also see here:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7586605.stm
Apparently, there were American personnel on the ground in Georgia directing affairs during the especially during the first phase of the war when Georgia launched its blitz on South Ossetia. And Putin's is saying not only were those personnel officially recognized by Washington, but that they were receiving orders directly to help "one of the candidates."
Now I know Obama is a "superstar" but he ain't got enough glitz to control the ears of the Washington war-mongering establishment. So who possibly could a war between Georgia and Russia, and the subsequent hullaballoo about a "dangerous world" and the re-launch of the Cold War help?
Your guess is as good as mine...
McCain's top adviser, Rick Davis was a paid lobbyists to Georgia. McCain nominated Georgian president for Nobel Peace prize in 2005. And Georgian President personally thanked Rev. Warren for the Saddleback Faith Forum (Warren said so on Larry King). Just coincidences. And Cindy McCain right now is in Georgia doing charity work, sight-seeing or something. Great.
But, McCain was a POW.
hi there all,
I was just reading an article about the Matthew McConaughey's(actor), Mom, who is pushing her new book about her life. In it she tells that her husband died while having sex and she made them carry out his dead body naked so the world could see his "great gift." Well, there are a number of comments on that site about this fact and some are outraged by her telling, and others with various opinions on the story...but this one just cracked me up......

re #22...........Really, I hate to admit it but the Georgia-Russia thing could very well be a little "scratching of the backs" kind of thing.
After all, Bush and Putin, are "soul buddies" and McCain's foreign policy adviser has lobbied for Georgia and it looks like Cindy McCain has recently or is in Georgia supposedy checking out the humanitarian angle...Now, I do not know why Cindy McCain should be involved in any of this...
but right from the start I wondered as to the timing of this thing...McCain's daily talks to the press about it when Obama was on vacation.
The Republicans have investments and interests beyond the so called American Interests that they always banter about.....
and how better to sell and make a case for the ex-POW, the brave warrior, the great protector and defender of America's Allies......than to help stir up a conflict in which the Candidate can strut his stuff.....
it is sad to think such a possibility from our Government.....but we must be clear eyed and scrutinize an Administration that plays so carefreely with their citizens trust....as they did to the run up to the Iraq conflict....
I think it is safe to say....that yes, we think the worst from this Republican Adminitration and their Republican presidential Candidate....but this is what they have done to their credibility...just completely zeroed it out...
hmmmm.ruth
Indeed ruth, if this is true, many of us predicted it.
It's quite possible that someone gave Saakashvili the green light to make what has turned out to be a fool's errand for John McCain. Maybe Randy Scheuneman(not "Rick Davis", as I wrote in #22) can provide some insight into the promises made to Saakashvili.
This is more the tail wagging the dog, I think investigation will show this is to a case of someone who has no right to be influencing US foreign policy providing assurances to foreign governments.
This is a felony under US law, a violation of the Logan Act to have agents other than US government making promises, offering aid to foreign governments. The act has been in place from nearly the beginning of this nation, for a very good reason. It was put in place to prevent the very actions that have apparently been made by the McCain campaign - this is a truly serious violation of a very old precept.
It's time for Congress to ramp up serious investigation into exactly what Randy Scheunemann has done and has promised as part of his 'service' to the Georgian government as a lobbyist for them.
The appearance of impropriety on the part of McCain's campaign must be dealt with, right now.
But what if this is more sinister?
Does it surprise anyone that John McCain and George Bush and Dick Cheney may have initiated this situation to create a conflict to boost John McCain's bid and create a new fear campaign that only Georgie's team is capable of.
WE all know fear-mongering has been the mainstay of all Republicans during the past 8 years. Democrats are tired of this, Republicans should be smart enough to see that once again, they are being manipulated and led down another erroneous path leading to more destruction of young American lives and Americas' treasure.
The truth is, most Republicans do not really care about the lives of our troops; if they did, we would no longer still be in Iraq. They prefer to follow dictators, liars, thieves, cheaters, law-breakers so they can get the few crumbs thrown to them by corporate America.
And .. no I don't trust Putin.
But this time, something STINKS, and it's coming right from the McCain campaign.
"it looks like Cindy McCain has recently or is in Georgia supposedy checking out the humanitarian angle..."ruth
She is in Georgia, and McCain made it a point today morning to remind the press of that fact. When asked about his VP choice, he said, he discussed with close staff, but will announce only after he discussed the choice with his wife upon her return from Georgia.
"Now, I do not know why Cindy McCain should be involved in any of this..."
You will know all about it and everything about Cindy next week during the RNC convention, from McCain's campaign and the press, when you will be introduced to your wonderful potential First Lady.
Harry Reid on John McCain: "I just think he doesn't have the temperament to be president" -- and GOP Senators think that, too
Harry Reid was his usual blunt self talking about John McCain with Nevada reporter Jon Ralston. Reid has worked with John McCain for 26 years, so he speaks with experience. This is why we like Harry Reid. He says it like it is:
*******************************************
"I just think he doesn't have the temperament to be president," Reid told Las Vegas Sun columnist Jon Ralston during the taping of "Face to Face," in Denver on Wednesday. The show airs on a Las Vegas, Nev., cable channel.
"I've served with the man 26 years," Reid said. "Do I have the ability to speak with experience about someone who has abused everyone he's dealt with? Someone who does not have the temperament to be president, who's wrong on the war, wrong on the economy, wrong on nuclear waste. What am I supposed to do? Walk around talking about what a great guy he is? I don't believe that. .... "
"There isn't a Republican serving in the Senate that's happy he's the nominee. Now, they're all supporting him, but I'll tell you they have told me. I've had Republican senators tell me they don't think they'll vote for him," Reid said.
When Ralston asked if Reid thought it would be "dangerous" to let McCain be president, Reid answered: "Well, if you said it, I wouldn't correct you."
"Is that right?" Ralston asked. "You really think that?"
"That's right," said Reid, who predicted that Democrat presidential candidate Barack Obama would carry the battleground state of Nevada by 5 percentage points.
*******************************************
We need more Senators who know McCain to be honest about him. This is exactly the kind of insight the American people need. Exactly.
John McCain is George Bush, but unstable, angry, abusive and dangerous. That's even worse than Bush.
http://www.americablog.com/2008/08/harry-reid-on-john-mccain-i-just-think.html
the bloggers are more intelligent than u think, skeptisch!
This could be precisely the time to begin introducing the "temperament" aspect of McCain's personality - right when the MSM is discovering the same thing:
"McCain's Prickly TIME Interview
For years, John McCain's marathon bull sessions with reporters were more than a means of delivering a message; they were the message. McCain proudly, flagrantly refused direction from handlers, rarely dodged tough questions and considered those who did wimps and frauds. The style told voters that he was unafraid, that he had nothing to hide and that what you see is what you get. "Anything you want to talk about," he promised reporters aboard the Straight Talk Express in Iowa back in March 2007.
...so when TIME's James Carney and Michael Scherer were invited to the front of McCain's plane recently for an interview, they were ushered forward, past the curtain that now separates reporters from the candidate, past the sofa that was designed for his gabfests with the press and taken straight to the candidate's seat. McCain at first seemed happy enough to do the interview. But his mood quickly soured. The McCain on display in the 24-minute interview was prickly, at times abrasive, and determined not to stray off message." Time article, John #16
McCain, now with a shot at winning, is not acting well under pressure. And when that happens, as Reid acknowledges, he's dangerous.

Ben Smith of Politico writes:
Obama communications director Dan Pfeiffer gives an interesting line to Jonathan Martin about the speculation that McCain would leak his vice presidential choice tonight:
"Tonight would be political malpractice," Obama communications chief Dan Pfeiffer told Politico. "It's one more piece of evidence that the McCain campaign is a war room masquerading as a presidential campaign."
If McCain does use the rollout to compete with Obama's speech — rather than to tell his own story — it would be another sign of the degree to which this race is driven by the Democrat.
"Katrina hit.
6:10 am Aug. 29..."
And that's McCain's birthday, tomorrow.
Aug 29, 2005, on the day Katrina hit, Bush flew to Phoenix, Arizona to cut cake and celebrate McCain's birthday.
I am sure, we will remind everyone, and Wish McCain a happy 72nd birthday tomorrow, even if he doesn't want to celebrate it publicly.
Tropical Storm Gustav is expected to gain strength in the gulf to a cat 3 hurricane and is likely to hit Louisiana on Monday.
There is another storm Hana in the Atlantic which is projected to turn into a hurricane by Sunday and aim towards Florida or the Carolina. This has a potential to move into the gulf.
Currently a top story for Fox News is one that is blaring this headline:
Gustav Threatens GOP Convention Plans
http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/08/28/gustav-threatens-gop-convention-plans/
That's right...The category 3 hurricane that is bearing down on the vulnerable population of New Orleans and the rest of the gulf coast, is identified by Fox News as merely a threat to the GOP. Never mind the millions of Americans in harm's way who must be pretty anxious considering how awful this administration handled a similar threat a few years ago.
Giving Fox the benefit of a doubt, it may be entirely appropriate to report on the impact of a severe storm on what is one of the biggest events for the Republican presidential campaign. If the headline were simply an unfortunate phrasing that tipped the tone of the article toward an insensitivity that they didn't intend, it could be forgiven. But the article contains some affirmation of the headline's myopic self-centeredness. The constricted view is first expressed in a quote from Karl Rove, a FOX News analyst:
"The Republicans can't seem to get a break when it comes to August and when it comes to the weather."
According to Rove, it is the Republicans who are the victims of these dang storms. Why does God hate the GOP? Especially when they prayed so hard for him to smite the Democrats:
Focus On The Family Prays For Rain During Obama Speech
http://marcambinder.theatlantic.com/archives/2008/08/focus_on_the_family_prays_for.php
White House press secretary Dana Perino also noticed the hardship that her party faces when she left open the possibility that Gustav could "rain on the Republicans' plans."
It really is all about the Republicans. At some point I may even summon up some sympathy for them. Not that they need my help. Fox News is always there to provide some positive reinforcement for the beleaguered Party who has to do battle with a political rock star:
"The Bush administration came under fire for appearing slow to react when Katrina struck New Orleans three years ago. Democratic speakers have reprised that criticism during their national convention in Denver, where so far no serious disruptions have occurred."
Huh? In an article about a hurricane and its impact on GOP convention plans, Fox News finds a way to inject the totally unrelated notion of Democratic convention unrest. This has nothing to do with anything else in the column. It is purely an egregious attempt to sow some negativity, but with the promise of disruption that may yet occur - it just has not "so far."
Sheesh!

".... the Republicans are considering postponing their convention. Their excuse? The Hurricane. Are you serious? This is the same party that 3 years ago basically IGNORED Katrina. I guess you could say they learned their lesson, but honestly. . . this is pathetic. Keith said it best "well, that's some reaction to the Obama speech.""
...
"Senior Republicans said images of political celebration in the Twin Cities while thousands of Americans flee a hurricane could be dubious. "Senator McCain has always been sensitive to national crisis," said McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds, noting that the senator postponed announcing his presidential candidacy in 2000 because of the war in the Balkans. "We are monitoring the situation very closely."
"--Hmm, so your example is WAR. Maybe because McCain couldn't use KATRINA. What was he doing when Katrina hit?"

BUMBLEBEDS & HUMMINGBIRVS
Bumblebees & hummingbirds each
have their own ways of approaching
getting the most out of a fuchsia blossom
Bumblebees crash head first into
the tubular space & crawl all the way
inside before disappearing in the end
Hummingbirds gently lift a blossom
while inserting their long bills
until they achieve the proper angle
in order to drink deeply
As we watch a female rufus
feeding at the scarlet fuchsia
a small bumblebee bumps into her side
The next bumblebee to enter that area
is confronted by the hummingbird
& shoots back the way it came
The hummingbird returns to the fuchsia
but is bumped at high speed
by a small bumblebee coming
from the opposite direction
The hummingbird fights it off
but it takes a few dog fights & by
that time this bird is fighting mad
She darts back & forth looking
for an opponent to sock it to
That's when she spots the window
& in three spurts of motion
is quickly hovering before the glass
tilting & turning her head
in order to get the best possible view
Then she flies off after being apparently
convinced that this reflection is far
too good looking to be any other bird
Or was she using the window
as a mirror all along in order
to help her better check out
her fierce warrior look?
Later still another small bumblebee
bumps the hummingbird as it sips nectar
but this time she just lets it go
All credit to Steve Toth

Thank you -- for your support -- from South.
Pawlenty and Romney seem to have ruled out, the word is about Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin for VP.
If it's true about Palin, and not another leaked story to create excitement, it explains McCain's obsession with Hillary's "disgruntled" voters.

Has anyone looked at the projected path of Hurricane Gustav? This could be a repeat of Katrina....and could be another big one.
Sending loving thoughts to all those along the Gulf Coast.
```
Happy Birthday, John McCain
Three years ago today, Hurricane Katrina came ashore for a second time in the Gulf Coast for John McCain's 69th birthday. Here he was that day, celebrating with President Bush. The birthday, presumably, and not the hurricane.
This year, John McCain wanted a vice presidential candidate for his birthday. He picked Gov. Sarah "Fluffy" Palin, who apparently doesn't know what she'd even do in the job she's now aspiring to:
"Palin: "[A]s for that V.P. talk all the time, I'll tell you, I still can't answer that question until somebody answers for me what is it exactly that the V.P. does every day?"
I hope McCain explained that one to her. 'Palin, it's like this. Your main job would be to spend a lot of time in an undisclosed location. It's a tradition we Republicans decided to institute post-Quayle, and definitely plan to continue post-Cheney. Also, no less important, your job is to keep me safe. For that one, you just need to be yourself. Funny thing, that's also a tradition we started with Quayle. During the campaign, your job will be to privately reassure Evangelicals and global warming deniers, while fulfilling the public role of token Republican woman who can more safely attack women's interests.'
Unfortunately, the weather has its own ideas. In addition to getting a running mate, another hurricane, Hurricane Gustav is bearing down on the Gulf Coast. Though it won't be here quite in time for his birthday, I'm sure it'll bring back a lot of memories. Like what McCain's good friend, John Hagee, said about Katrina:
"... in September, 2006. During an interview with NPR, he said the devastating storm "was, in fact, the judgment of God against ... New Orleans."
The city, he continued, "had a level of sin that was offensive to God" because "there was to be a homosexual parade there on the Monday that the Katrina came."
So, good times to be a Republican. I don't envy their base, though. Now they, too, can have a presidential candidate who's more publicly interested in appealing to improbable waverers from the other party than in their own constituency. What else could be up with Palin mentioning Hillary Clinton (whom Palin called "whining") and Geraldine Ferraro, but not Elizabeth Dole, anyway?
Heckuva birthday present, Republicans. Think I'm going to have count it as a present for Democrats.
"Yo I watched the convention on CSPAN without any commentary. Magic. Some one here clued me into this. Thank you whoever that was, I'm sorry I don't remember...."
Yo doodleman
I think that was Preity.
This is from third day of the convention:
I conducted an experiment last night at work
by Kristina40
I had to work last night but luckily I'm a bartender and have a couple of television sets at my disposal. I was surprised a few people requested that I turn up the volume so we could listen to the speeches. I decided to flip the channel from the cable news channel to cspan. Several of the customers asked me why. I replied
"Because I'd like to process what is said in the speech without someone telling me what I'm supposed to think of it".
One Republican customer commented,
"Wow, I never really thought about it that way."
So began my experiment..
I decided that after the conclusion of the speeches we would flip over to the cable news punditry and see if we could predict what we would hear.
I was pleasantly surprised that several of my conservative customers seemed enthralled by the parade of military people that cspan presented last night. We had MSNBC on the other television and they never showed any of that. One customer quipped
"I wonder why they aren't showing any of these people, their stories are important"?
I explained in non-inflammatory terms that it didn't fit into the narrative they wanted to push, the narrative that Democrats don't care about soldiers.
As the evening progressed, my customers who normally would have paid their tab and gone home by now, continued watching and commenting. They really seemed to enjoy Bill's speech but Biden seemed to seal the deal for a few. They didn't realize all the trials and tribulations the man had perservered through and they appeared to be genuinely impressed. While not agreeing with all of the Democratic platform ,several stated they were seriously thinking of voting for Obama and one said he was sold.
After the convention closed one of my Republican customers asked me to turn on Fox. I asked him what he thought they'd be saying and he replied
"Nothing good"
I agreed with him and we flipped the tv to Fox. We were not disappointed..We were treated to the talking heads bloviating about "mediocre" "uninspiring" "more of the same" etc.
My customer looked at me and said:
"I really didn't think the bias would be THAT obvious! I think I'll be watching tomorrow night on cspan again!"
Just for balance we flipped to MSNBC and he was even more surprised to find a few of the talking heads looking for things to pick apart as well, although the bias was not nearly as obvious as was Fox's.
I also had a customer show up late who I had told the day before to turn off the pundits and watch cspan, he thanked me profusely and said he was telling all his friends to watch cspan for convention coverage. All in all the night was a success. I planted the seed for these people to sow and I think a few of them will.
YES! WE CAN!
All in all the experience was a good one. It's not a great idea to talk politics in a bar but I knew these people and we had a good time and lively conversation.
Hey John
CSPAN is the only way to get a clear big picture.
Thank you Preity.
There were no talking heads........none.
Like I said about the generals and admirals, at least 20, standing on stage and the person speaking had worked with 6 commanders in chief. He also worked personally with Obama in Kenya. Anyone listening to CNN, MSNBC, or FOX missed that golden nugget. This is only one such thing they missed.
Many of the questions that are bouncing back and forth were answered if you did not have to listen to the talking heads.
That stuff is just entertainment......JUNK FOOD. This stuff clogs the blood vessels to the brain!
I bet most people missed Barney Smith and when he said they care more about Smith Barney than Barney Smith......Yo.
I will be watching the Republican convention on CSPAN without all the bias and CONFUSSION of the media.
I believe CNN, MSNBC and Fox are doing more damage than good. If you are watching the convention on these channels then you are missing 80% of it and being told what to think about the 20% you are going to or have just seen.
Thank you CSPAN
Lately I have been amazed by you
The new orchestration of the we
I think the flow is wonderful
Tonight while I am sliding inside myself
I am hurting some rocks-feeling of change
You have changed or is it me?
I do not want to complain
But I am a bit sad
I do not recognize you like at the first day we met
So tonight I am sliding deeper
Deeper until I reach the limit of your bed
I am coming as the sweetest dream can be
While you black-sleep, you magnetize me
Your hair and your eyes closed and this mouth without a word-shout
Aaah! this calm expression of yours
Like a night-breeze soft-soft of me
I am reaching your feet
There, between my hands-heath
I kiss you and I leave!
From respected astrologer, Ray Merriman:-
"On Thursday evening, at 8:17 PM, MDST, in Denver, Colorado, Barack Obama accepted the nomination of the Democratic Party for the office of President of the United States. In accepting this nomination, he became the first person of color to be nominated for this position on one of the major parties in the USA. At that moment, Pluto was conjunct the Midheaven within only one degree, and on the Galactic Center. Uranus was in the twelfth house, three degrees from the Ascendant, while Venus was only four degrees above the Descendant (seventh house), in an almost exact square to Pluto. The ruling planet, Neptune, was in the twelfth house, in an applying opposition to the Moon in Leo near the cusp of the sixth house.
This is a very powerful chart, with so many planets conjunct an angle. The positions of Uranus and Pluto illustrate the remarkable and historic nature of this event. But does it indicate success, or attainment of the goal, which is to become the president of the USA? With Pluto conjunct the Midheaven, and being retrograde and in square aspect to Venus and Mercury, I have doubts. The problem, as I see it from this chart, is also the Pisces rising and its ruler Neptune in the twelfth house.
Although Pluto and Uranus pertain to his inspirational message of “change,” the Pisces-Neptune placements indicate the very difficulty that the pollsters have been pointing out all along. That is, the general public may not really feel they know or understand – or even trust - the man behind the powerful words. They are moved by the message, but they don’t quite get the messenger.
Pluto on the MC, going retrograde, also suggests that something behind the scenes may be about to erupt that affects Senator Obama. He may be facing a very powerful machine whose intent is to harm his reputation and/or completely distort his message, for Pluto in such a vital place represents the possibility of sabotage. For those who are astrologers, note that the Pluto on the MC and Galactic Center, also rules the 8th house. Obama’s quest for the White House will certainly be accompanied by changes. If he succeeds, it will result in massive reforms and changes of direction for the USA. If he doesn’t succeed, it may be a result of forces that are terribly threatened by the changes and reforms he represents."
broken shell
my scarred heart
is becoming more whole
one drop of love
from the shell of your hands
turns scar
to sacred
has one of us changed?
it's only the light
it's two-thousand-and-eight
it's the late-summer night
have you seen how my love
makes a mirror?
can you see how I see you
now?
I'm always the same
meaning always in change
and
I'm closer
and softer
and dreaming of you
Shall I be scared or sacred?
Word plays out demeaning.
No harm in the dreaming
That's closer the day.
To all my dearest friends,
It is a beautiful day, a new day
The sun is shining
My heart is filled with peace
I walk here in this little park
Every step I take
Is manifesting a world of
Vibrant energy
Around me
Leaves are waving in the wind
Birds are singing in the trees
Ducks are swimming in the water
And me, am part of it all
While breathing in and out
I am alife
Manifesting a paradise on earth
Everywhere I go
I encounter people smiling at me
I smile back
And in their eys I see
They know just like me
Of happiness inside
I create this world myself
With every step I take
And gratitude comes in
Because it is really possible
To live and let live this way
And if you really understand
The power of manifestation
Then everything you manifest
Will radiate around yourself
Because you are that point
In the middle
From which everything sprouts forth
And the world within
Becomes the world without
As simple as one can imagine
And
As complicated as one can imagine
It is all up to me
The storm in the Gulf is very strong symbol.
The storm in Denver was also a very strong symbol.
What are the chances a hurricane would hit between Houston, Bush's home town and New Orleans on the anniversary of Katrina and during the Republican Convention? With three more storms on it's tail.
This also in light that James Dobson asking Christians to pray for rain to cancel the Democratic Convention. The weather here in Colorado was perfect. In fact the day before Obama spoke it was hot and no breeze.the day he spoke it cooled down and there was a slight breeze. The next day it rained. It seems even the earth is ready for change.
For several years, a man was having an affair with an Italian woman.
One night, she confided in him that she was pregnant.
Not wanting to ruin his reputation or his marriage,
He paid her a large sum of money if she would go to Italy to secretly have the child.
If she stayed in Italy to raise the child, he would also provide child support
until the child turned 18. She agreed, but asked how he would know
when the baby was born. To keep it discrete, he told her to simply
mail him a post card, and write 'Spaghetti' on the back.
He would then arrange for the child support payments to begin.
One day,
about 9 months later, he came home to his confused wife.
'Honey,' she said, 'you received a very strange post card today.'
'Oh, just give it to me and I'll explain it later,' he said.
The wife obeyed and watched as her husband read the card, turned white, and fainted.
On the card was written:
'Spaghetti, Spaghetti, Spaghetti, Spaghetti, Spaghetti.
Three with meatballs, two without.
'Send extra sauce.'
Class act Dems:
Dem apologizes for joking about hurricane
Posted: 08:06 PM ET
A YouTube video shows Fowler joking about Gustav.
(CNN) — Former Democratic National Committee Chairman Don Fowler apologized Sunday for recently joking Hurricane Gustav's expected landfall on the same day as the opening of the Republican National Convention suggested God was on the Democrats' side.
A YouTube video of the comments posted by the conservative blog RedState.org and showed Fowler joking with South Carolina Rep. John Spratt about the timing of the hurricane while on a flight from the Democratic National Convention back to South Carolina. The person who filmed the conversation is not identified.
“The hurricane is going to hit New Orleans about the time they start. The timing is, at least it appears now, it will be there Monday. That just demonstrates God is on our side,” Fowler said, while laughing. Fowler also told Spratt that “everything’s cool.”
Speaking to the Associated Press Sunday, Fowler said his comments were intended to make light of the late Rev. Jerry Falwell's remark that the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 was God's punishment for abortion and homosexuality.
On Sunday, Fowler told The Associated Press that he was making fun of comments made by the Rev. Jerry Falwell, who after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, said the attacks were God's punishment for abortion, homosexuality and other sins.
"I don't believe in a God that's vengeful," Fowler said. "I believe in a God that's compassionate."
"This is a point of national concern. I think everybody of good will has great empathy and sympathy for people in New Orleans," Fowler also said. "Most religious people are praying for people in New Orleans. There is no political connotation to this whatsoever. This was just poking fun at Jerry Falwell and the nonsensical thing he had said several years ago."
South Carolina GOP Chairman Katon Dawson sharply criticized Fowler's comments, saying, “The outrageous behavior of two of the Obama campaign's highest profile supporters in the south is despicable, a cynical polarization of life and death. I call on Barack Obama to immediately denounce Fowler and Spratt and demand sincere apologies from these members of the Democratic leadership.”
Moore Under Fire for Saying Gustav Proof ‘There Is a God’
by FOXNews.com
Saturday, August 30, 2008
Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise is calling on liberal filmmaker Michael Moore to apologize after he said Friday that the timing of Hurricane Gustav is “proof that there is a God in heaven,” since the storm approaching the Gulf Coast could disrupt next week’s Republican National Convention.
Moore made the remarks to MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann. Republicans have been monitoring the storm’s progress, considering whether to postpone their convention in St. Paul, Minn., if the storm wreaks havoc on the New Orleans area, just three years after Hurricane Katrina.
“I was just thinking, this Gustav is proof that there is a God in heaven,” Moore said. “To just have it planned at the same time, that it would actually be on its way to New Orleans for Day One of the Republican convention, up in the Twin Cities, at the top of the Mississippi River.”
Scalise released a statement Saturday blasting the documentary filmmaker for the remarks.
“I demand an immediate apology from Michael Moore to the people of south Louisiana for his offensive and inappropriate comments,” said Scalise, a Republican. “People in Louisiana, regardless of political affiliation, are making plans to leave to protect their families from this serious storm, and the God I know would not share Michael Moore’s glee for our plight.”
Residents of New Orleans and the surrounding area have to started to evacuate, while the storm strengthened to a Category 4 hurricane.
Moore seemed to back off his statement on air Friday, later saying, “I mean I certainly hope nobody gets hurt. I hope everybody’s taking cover.”
Too may things are made of oil and it's byproducts. Many of these products are not necessary and many can be made of sustainable materials.
Oil is not the problem, our dependence on it is. Oil can still be used to make some things but to use it for everything seems unwise.
How exciting to use our natural curiosity and intelligence to face this challenge. Many brilliant people are doing just that.
I just saw this:
which talks about the fact that under Dems, all -- repeat, all -- segments of families have done significantly better, in terms of real income growth, than any -- repeat, any -- segments under Reps. And under Reps, what growth there was significantly higher in the upper brackets, whereas under Dem's it was pretty evenly spread. If you're poor, it's a no-brainer to realize you'd prefer 2.64% growth under Dems, rather than the 0.43% you've gotten under Reps. But did you realize that if you're a millionaire, you've had 2.12% growth under Dems, as opposed to 1.8% under Reps? Financially, why would anyone want to vote for Reps?
heath wrote "if you're a millionaire,..." That would be top 5% I beleive. But you take top 0.1% they make a whole lot of money nder the GOP tax cuts to wealthy. and they have the power to influence campaigns and the media, to sell a distorted views on all issues inlcuding taxes and economic issues. Moreover, GOP, primarily uses cultural issues and wedge issues to get votes.
Which goes to show how generally ignorant and short-sighted they are, because if the entire economy is booming, they'll make out like even bigger bandits than normal.
See, a strong economy is based on vigorous cash flow. That means relatively equitable distribution of resources so there are no resource bottlenecks and pressure points that crash whole sections of the economy.
while Hanna seems to be the next threat......
Yo Mieke.
Hurricane Hanna
"While all eyes are watching Louisiana and hoping for the best for New Orleans, Houma, and Morgan City, LA, another storm quietly graduated to hurricane status and could threaten the south eastern coast later this week. Latest NHC Advisory:
"HANNA IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST-SOUTHWEST NEAR 5 MPH...7 KM/HR. A SLOW MOTION TOWARD THE WEST-SOUTHWEST OR SOUTHWEST IS EXPECTED TODAY FOLLOWED BY A TURN TOWARD THE WEST AND NORTHWEST ON TUESDAY. ON THE FORECAST TRACK...HANNA WILL BE MOVING OVER THE SOUTHEASTERN AND CENTRAL BAHAMAS DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. "
In addition, we would be remiss for not recognizing a new blogger who is rapidly becoming the Nate Silver of storm forecasting, Daily Kos diarist and unofficial community storm meteorologist, Millwx:
"By my own thinking is that Hanna comes ashore Friday a little further south, perhaps towards Savannah, as a Category 2 hurricane. But please remember, Hanna is sort of wandering around right now. Any weird gyrations in her motion may force the eventual track to shift around."
the question for me is if we are free from oil, using the internet.....
Thank you for the link Bonnie
I wanna play.
Mieke
The internet only needs electricity. More power can be created in more ways then we can even imagine. The first step is to move way from oil.
I believe individuals will soon create more energy than they consume. Freely giving the excess back to the grid giving us an energy surplus created by everyone.
With 10 billion dollars a month we could put solar cells on every roof in the country and wind turbine on every roof as well.
Dependence on oil slows this process down.
We are on the threshold.
All we need are a team of good leaders to facilitate the inevitable.
Obama is great at pulling together a team and inspires people to be empowered.
Biden has foreign affairs covered.
Hillary can focus on heath care.
Al Gore can have his way with the environment
And most important we the people are empowered to keep them on task.
Not just here in America but globally.
peace comes from peace
Palin,
Palin states that she is againt abortion even if her daughter was raped.
Now, I am sure there are many girls, women, who have chosen to have the baby after being raped, and that is a very private and personal decision to be absolutely respected. While there are other girls and women who have decided to abort and that is an equally private and personal decision to be absolutely respected.
Sarah Palin's stance is a private and personal stance that is to be absolutely respected....
it is not government or poltical fodder to bantered about by the religious manipulatives in our society that right now make up the power voices of the republican party....
But sadly we know why Palin was chosen to be the bait on John McCain's anti-abortionist line, she appears to be the juiciest, plumbest piece of female hormonal embryo producing bait he could lay his hands on...god, what a find!
Hi Derek,
Thanks for your reassuring input :)
I googled: is electricity free from oil? and immediately received the first hit that was aimed at Al Gore stating that carbon free electricity should be able to be used totally in 2020:
http://www.theoildrum.com/node/4316
Lol, the way you describe it, it is perfectly clear that Obama will be the next president of the U.S,
And he should be because he is the only one that can deal with the 'New Asian Hemisphere', written by Kishore Mahbubani from Singapore.
This is the book I am going to read. I saw an interview with him on Dutch television.
More about him and his book(s) can be found here:
And yes, definitely: peace comes from peace :)
I subscribe to this wholeheartedly!
Mieke
Derek
As of this moment, there are no alternative sources of energy as efficient as fossil fuels or that do not require fossil fuel to produce. Also
the EROI(energy returned over input) is negative i.e. it takes more fossil fuel input for the energy gotten back with the exception of solar, which just in the last year became slightly positive.
That is not to say we should not proceed, we should....it is to say that we must be realistic
in our attitudes and not just say technology will save us and then not change the way we conduct our lives. It's going to take a combination of things. There's a lot of work to be done, locally and globaly, we can't just wish this one away.
#159 I do think that we and the hurricane are at One, Meike. One would expect that a sincere intention would feed into the flow of things even beyond, to the 'troubling' of the whole Universe.
I do have a problem with observing and intending, for, if I observe an intended result, I cannot be sure whether I/we have been instrumental or just, in a sense, prophetic, that I just interpreted the pre-knowledge in an urge to intend? It seems it is all a playing with time/space concepts.
We do hold other's lives in the flesh, dear, on the whole, but venturing into the 'playground' area rather stands me on my caring head, to think about!
Hi Ed,
I understand your problem:)
Well, then whole quantum theory is nothing more than an illusion and I have not to bother anymore to read a single word about it :), at least if I follow your point of view.
I was thinking about Schrödinger's cat when I wrote that line. I am not a scientist but what I have understood from what has been written about that theory was, that there are always two possibilities and it depends on the observer which possibility becomes true.
And in my simplicity I thought, if that is true with a scientific experiment then why not try it out for myself while watching the path of a hurricane on the Internet keeping in mind that it can go either way and trying to slightly influence it in silence.
Isn't this what religious people try to do when they are praying? :)
Lol, standing with two feet firmly on the ground I guess that neither one is true and it still is all 'in the game'.
And the only thing that is true in the end is the fact that I am just breathing in and breathing out :)
Love, Mieke
Yes, sure, Meike, we are certainly breathing our part in whatever it is.
I reflected after writing, that, in the terms of my blah, prophesying is just as easily an avoidance of our Creatorship, at least in the ongoing flow of things.
Let's just love one another :)))
Hi Ed,
Well, no words are necessary for that :)
Poem continues.......
O flighty Hanna fickle, fey
Ike is coming, get out of the way
If you go to cspan.org and download realplayer you can watch what is really happening.
I just watched some of the Ron Paul Rally being held in St. Paul. Pretty well attended.
You won't get this on the major news networks.
Turn off the talking heads and think for yourself.
next line:
O Hanna you harlot, how many more of your kin follow in your wake?
My family lives on the Gulf Coast and my mom's house is right on the Bay (backyard). It seems that the storm wasn't so bad and the folks have weathered worst, as we all know according to the news. Katrina devastated the whole area three years ago and people are still living in tents and trailers in many areas if they were not sent somewhere else such as TX. The Gulf Coast area is very poor and Katrina was the first time that the area got the national attention it needed, as we never felt anyone cared, even FEMA (sp?),but they always paid out some money at the end. Still I haven't heard from my family and no one can really get thru during the storms. My family always go somewhat inland to stay in a hotel for a few days, except my mother's husband was scheduled for heart surgery as the battery's life was up in his pacer. However, my sister is now living with my mother, so they all help each other and she can drive, but my mother cannot. Yep, I know all about poverty and storms, which is probably why I have anxiety waiting for my company's layoffs to happen. Whatever! It's all for the best ... right? Everything is meant to be and most perfect ... right?
Late-Summer Night Dream (collaboration)
I had a dream
one summer night
The flapping curtains aiding
Thrilled me - filled me with stormy thoughts.
a prayer for no rain
winds of change, a distant hurricane
storms brew, unleash their fury
manifesting in counterclockwise fashion
autumn clouds as dark as crows
yet swirling in silence
death in the skies
What goes around comes round
illusions drown
I said to the storm as I closed my eyes
The better to see
this feeling i feel
I stalked through the rain as grim as a fay
I skip through summer rain, autumn catch me now
I make myself translucent, and outrun my skin
Sheet lightning plays proxy the obscurate Sun
till all around me I see
Unlicensed liquidity
That Hurricane Gustav is uniting me.....
deep down we all know
It can unite people to act as one at the right moment......
Let your words enslave no one, and the heavens will hush themselves
to go away and come back again when it is safe there to stay....
the sun breaks through and hope restored
Oh Oh Jupiter! trine the Great Benefic knows not fear
your seagulls keen and bank their turns, to chase the clouds northwest
Don't hold me, let me flow, there are important messages to be shipped, to go...
The Brit waits now with bated breath
while Hanna seems to be the next threat......
O flighty Hanna fickle, fey
Ike is coming, get out of the way
Dear Tiger
Thanks for telling us about Google's new browser. It was released today. It's called Chrome. I gave it a try and it's like driving an elegant race car. It's pared down, responsive, and fast. It doesn't have all the stuff we've gotten used ot in a browser. At first, I was confused by its simplicity. I continued to use it for about fifteen minutes, and all of a sudden I understood how it works. I liked it so much I just installed it here at home. At work, I didn't want to use any other browser. It's still in beta (i.e., still in development, and there are bugs sometimes), so it's best for the adventurous user, right now. I've been having so much fun with it. Thanks again.
Hey, your highness ... I am not the one who is fooled.
Anyway, I watched the Republican convention tonight and it was so very sad ... literally as well.
They are following Obama's lead, which is a positive sign. However, the Republican Party is now using, if you ya'no what I mean?
Poor McCain (McPain) is being pulled down and into all this mess and it all appears to be staged and not from the heart as Obama speaks.
It's so very sad.
Anyone who has experienced such traumatic circumstances must damaged ... a war hero being tortured for 5 years? How can the brain not respond in like? We can do a tremendous amount healing, but some things are almost impossible to rise above as human beings. This whole campaign is based on America First and Service. That is good, but what about the rest of the world? Can a tortured war hero rise above his/her abusers? Probably not in this case, as this is the campaign, unless McCain can prove otherwise with compassion not only for America, but for the world! .... his (our) brothers and sisters. Bless his sweet soul. But the damaged cannot run a country and have mercy Lord on those who lie.
Whispers in the Wind .... "The President of the United States of America will be a young male."
Obama speaks the truth and it is from the heart and this child is our next president!
God Bless America! God Bless the Whole Wide World! God Bless all the little children. Peace on earth ... the message of Jesus Christ.
Love,
Char
Nice poem. I jog counterclockwise in order to undo everything. The black ravens join me in making right the wrong. My heart seeks love and that's the best that one can do. I ,stopped jogging and skipped Monday, against my desire to continue, as I was in tremendous pain. I will begin again this coming Saturday ... around and around to reverse the evil, as I stir up the wind, even if it is only within me! :-) ... like the butterfly who bats it's wings to change the world.
Love, Char
Go Obama!
Wow ... just read all of that poem and it's sweet. You guys are on to something :-)
When I look up into the sky and see the seagulls in a land of no water, I am reminded of my Lord Jesus Christ, as he is always with me. My heart may be sad and lonely, but God fills my soul when I let him. Today, was a day of peace, as the seagulls gathered above to remind of God's promise.
I am the storm maker.
I am the peace maker.
You are the storm maker.
You are the peace maker.
Have you ever noticed that a tornado has a quiet eye in it's center? I believe that there is a reason for this. There are many tornadoes within one hurricane. I have been thru one terrible eye ... Fredrick (sp?) on the Gulf Coast. It was one of the worst in history and the experience was completely eerier. While praying in a corner of a house that was missed, as the next one was blown up, the eye rested upon us. I've heard that one can go out and see what it is like for a few minutes. And being young and foolish at 20, I went outside into the middle of the eye. It was completely silent, as nothing could be heard in the middle of a storm. It was amazing! Dead silence. It's like going within ourselves to find that place of peace and stillness as I've read about in spiritual material and what the Bible says is there as well. It's fascinating that in the mist of such a horrible storm is a place of peace. That's God.
She has a certain - 'je ne sais quoi' - that charms every One.
I watched the Republican convention. Most if it twice.
As the cameras scan the audience I am struck that it is almost exclusively white and from around 35 years old and older. Not a very diverse cross section of America, and not a wet eye in the crowd, at all, all night.
Very very different from the democratic convention.
You can still see it all on C-SPAN, both conventions without comentary!
I am not democrat or republican but one of the two candidates will win. They are the only two choices we will have.
To me of the two there is no choice so far.
At this point it's Obama.
Maybe someday we will have more than two just parties to choose from.
Pretty cool. I think it's a keeper. Very telling of what we are feeling.
Silently sat the artist alone
Carving a Christ from the ivory bone.
Little by little toil and pain,
He won his way through the sightless grain
That held and yet hid the thing he sought'
Til the work stood up a groaning thought.
