Hate. An awful word. According to the dictionary it is "to dislike intensely or passionately; feel extreme aversion for or extreme hostility toward."
It is easy to see in others, but can we overcome it in ourselves? I must have received 5 emails this last week demonizing the Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin.
At the same time I have thought a lot about the true meaning of Conscious Community. An intentional community (without walls) with a desire to open hearts and build bridges between people of diverse beliefs and backgrounds, living the highest virtues that we all hold dear so that we may build a new society from within the old---starting at the grass roots.
Here is one story from Reno, NV showing how conscious community weavers work to help this new society break through into reality.
From Philip Moore:
"I remember the fury of news coverage that came on immediately after John McCain announced that Sarah Palin would be his running mate. She had five kids, one a pregnant unmarried daughter, and an ethics investigation going on about a former in-law. And everyone seemed to be digging for more. I thought how tough it must have been for her, her husband, her parents, and her children to be suddenly thrust upon the national stage with little to no warning. And then just a few days later she was supposed to make a nationally televised speech that would make or break her political career. I could not imagine the pressure that she must be under and I assumed she would be getting very little sleep. So I prayed to God to help her and her family through this most difficult of times.
That Wednesday night as I watched her deliver a powerful speech, I felt not only relief for her but gratitude that God had helped her have the strength to step up on that podium and speak to a national audience with such confidence.
As a lifelong Democrat, I felt a moment of transformation as I could hope that she does her absolute best, that her family is protected from the assaults of national interest, and that she gets what she is looking for in her life while disagreeing with the words that she was saying. I said thanks to God that night for His assistance.
I still hold Sarah Palin in my heart. I recognize the path to the future is not Republican or Democrat. I intend particularly in this turbulent political time to consciously reach across the boundaries of party lines to continue my work towards a sustainable future for our community."
