Pakistan and terrorism:101

Vijay Sappani - September 20, 2008

Many in North America look at the Pakistan and blame their government for its terrorism problem, not realizing that these monsters were created to wage the American war against USSR.

Terrorists strike again in Pakistan , this time killing over 60 people at what was once the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad. Terrorist attacks in Pakistan is no more news, it is a part of daily life in Pakistan.

Pakistan is now the global head quarters for international terrorism and the monsters that it helped create have started to bite the hands that created them. During the 80's the ISI, Pakistan's intelligence agency flush with funds from US to sabotage USSR war in Afghanistan flooded the black market with top end weaponry and salaries that made mercenaries shop for BMW's. Pakistan set up over 1000 terrorist training camps in the western frontier and in the east in Pakistan administered Kashmir to support the Afghan militants and Terrorist attacks on India. Those were their heydays. Full backing from US, money, men, everything looked good.

Then one day USSR left Afghanistan and US stopped funding Pakistan. ISI had thousands of mercenaries in its pay roll, who like Nortel let go thousands of them and the top commanders were transferred to work in Kashmir against India. India complained about it to US all the time, but in vain. The laid off mercenaries joined various factions of war lords in Afghanistan, rebel groups in Chechnya, Nigeria, and some in Middle East. Many of them were left to fend for themselves in the poverty driven, rugged border of Pakistan and Afghanistan, eventually being employed by Osama and Taliban.

Fast forward that to post 9/11. US reinvigorates interest in Afghanistan and engages Pakistan to destroy the monsters that Pakistan created. Musharaff tried to tighten the leash but realized that the terrorists listen to ISI and not the Army. Pakistan has spent half its years since independence under the rule of dictators with the ISI plotting against them and the rest under a democratically elected government with the Army plotting against them.

So anyways, lets not worry about their sob story. All these mercenaries paid by US and trained by Pakistan to fight against USSR are now doing the same against Pakistan and US. Hey, after all they need a job! The more Pakistan tries to rein in them, the more they are going to bounce back and attack them. so whats the solution to it ?

First the people in Pakistan have to realize that their country is the world's biggest and best breeding, training center for global terrorism. The Shia and Sunni Pakistanis should unite in their fight against the terrorists and Arab operatives there. The residents in rural and rugged areas should help the Army in battling the terrorists and the armed forces should reach out to the people in winning their confidence and engaging for intelligence gathering. The best victories in battle fields have always come from brave soldiers and intelligence from common people.

Pakistan has to learn from India and take a pledge to 100% work with India in defeating the terrorists and separatists operating from its soil against India. Pakistan needs India more than India needs Pakistan and the faster they realize, the better for them. Pakistan needs to stop the terror network and start the business network. India is growing at over 9% and will continue to do so for at least a decade.

Pakistan needs India's help in defeating its own terrorism problem and developing its own markets. People of Pakistan origin living abroad are better positioned now to initiate that better than those living there. There needs a strong sense of reasoning from them to initiate business talks and pressurize the government in Pakistan to improve trade and security relations with India.

Like the lawyers in Pakistan, common people need to step out and step up to the plate. People's revolution never fail and in fact is the only way in most cases that has brought peace in many parts of the world. Let us not forget Gandhi, Mandela and many others who paved the path for peace through peaceful organization of the grass roots.

Dear Vijay,
Could not agree with you more. You are talking about a shift in Pakistan's psychological paradigm. Let us hope that it happens. But history only shows that Pakistan's rulers, whether dictators or elected officials always tried to unite pakistan by playing on people's religious feelings and provoking hatred towards India. They would always create an incident in Kashmir to divert public attention (international as well) from internal problems. Whenever Pakistan received aid from the US (even in the post 9/11 era), it was never fully utilized for the purpose it was intended. Economic aid was primarily used to build up military leaving the country as poor if not poorer as ever. Military aid was always used only partially for the purpose agreed to. A major part of the aid was always used for military build up for use against India.

Aloha Vijay

Today is international Peace Day. May we have a Peace from this day on. The world is getting smaller. It would be wonderful if a film was created to tell the story as you have told it as we need more explaining stories for self referral. The world is made up of perceptions. Adversity leads to Spirituality. We will out grow violence and be more loving when we actualize we are in Nirvana. love patty

Oh, my God ... Father. God bless the world! Peace on Earth as it is in Heaven!
