The Power of Intention

Sarah Maria - September 01, 2008

Okay – so I am almost finished with my first book! This means that I am going to start blogging – consistently. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to post here and look forward to a dialogue.

So I want to first explore the whole concept of intention. I propose that when we are stuck in negative, self-limiting beliefs, feelings, thoughts, and behaviors toward ourselves, we actually disempower intention and the ability to manifest what we want in our lives.

I like Wayne Dyer’s conceptualization of intention as a field. Intention is a field, a constant force that animates and expresses everything in the universe.

We are always connected to intention by virtue of emanating from it. We can, however, either strengthen or weaken our connection to it by virtue of who we are and how we behave. If we become more like this field of intention, we increase our connection to it. If we become less like it, we weaken our connection to it.

This field of intention is by its very nature all-accepting and all-inclusive. It accepts everything and everyone because it is creates everything and everyone.

So if we dislike ourselves: if we dislike our bodies and our appearance, if we disapprove of who we are and have become on any level, we disconnect with this field of intention. What this means is our intentions lose some of their power. We weaken our ability to manifest our dreams and desires.

In order to strengthen our connection to intention we must become more like intention. Since two of the attributes of intention are all-accepting and all-inclusive, when we become this way toward ourselves and everyone around us, we enhance our connection to intention. As we strengthen and enhance our connection to intention, we can increase our ability to manifest what we want in our lives and in the world. When we truly love and accept ourselves as we are, we can begin to create the life of our dreams.

What do you think? Do you have any experience with this in your own life?

Dear Sarah, good to read your comments on Intention. You very rightly said that we become like Intention, when we concentrate on it.How does one concentrate on it.Through self questioning, through remembering who we are just some stray thoughts This field is so full of potentials that it is not possible to write anything. It is to be experienced

hi Sarah,
I have written at intentblog for .... oh, my! - 3 years now, and my intention was & still is - to find a community to share with - ideas, stories, poetry, laughter, caring, campfire cook-outs, some spiritual insights, and just how to express myself in a forum such as blogging.

I think I have succeeded. I enjoy IB and there are diverse subjects to comment on, and lots of really neat people, that I am care for deeply.

That said,
when you are talking about body image - intention isn't necessarily what comes to my mind.

I see our bodies - my body - as a wonderous miracle and gift to enjoy.

I work out to stay healthy, I like being outdoors, and I like to play games. Movement is 'Kate in action'.

Even as one works out the psychological feelings about how they feel about their body - as it changes over time - (hopefully)
they keep at 'intention' to enjoy life, make a contribution, keep learning, keeping sharing, keep loving .... keep relishing the silence, and the place beyond thoughts and feelings, and spend time in the realm of the Present Moment, which is perfect. In that place, for moments seeming unconnected to time, you can really forget you have a body.

Oh, Time now - sleep for me.
Thanks for your post.

Love,
~ Kate

It certainly is a sea of intention. Can one person turn the tide?

Hi Sarah,

Yeah, the power of intention is great. After blogging here for almost as long as dear Kate, I agree with her about IB being a great way of exchanging lots of ideas and projects together.

Our latest is a shared poem on Open Thread and Ed's question here above gave me an idea:

It is the hurricane season in America at the moment and what is so very good about the Internet is that one can see them coming and can calculate (of course not that precisely) the path on which the hurricane(s)move(s).

In the past we have talked about the observer who may be capable to influence that what he/she observes.

Perhaps it might be a fun idea to try this out with the hurricanes, I mean trying to observe their path and visualizing them to take another one, so that they might not come ashore but stay and die out in the ocean.

I know it is a wild idea and perhaps leads to nothing but here is a chance to try this out.

Anyone like to join me? : http://www.weather.com/maps/news/atlstorm8/projectedpath_large.html

I thought it interesting the random ad on the Club 13 page http://013.me/club_13.htm or click my name.

The page which has some new additional insight has a random add for Dr. Wayne Dyer with "the secrets to manifesting your destiny."

I do wonder does destiny need to be manifested or does it just happen?

It stuck out because I had just read Sarah's mention of Wayne Dyer and inadvertnaly looked at this other page and there he was.

What the connection to Club 13 and manifesting destiny is I am not sure.

Hi Sarah,
"When we truly love and accept ourselves as we are, we can begin to create the life of our dreams."

What part of ourselves are we accepting? Our human ego or divine nature? I ask because when I was 25 I was in the pit of hell. I had to find a new identity so that I could love and accept my true Self not the partial self that I was patterned on.

My intention at this turning point in my life was "To let love radiate without concern for results." Such love starts within and can look self-centered to others. Actually Self-centeredness is the pathway of intention. Going for center, cutting through the deep dark muck, finding inner gems in oneslef the world around is intention of Self expression.

Intention is not blind or asleep to dark negativity. Intention is awake and assists the downloading of Light. One's intention is to stay in intention...to stay awake, to see as one faces demons, shifts patterns, and re-aligns alchemy.

Sarah, your work brings Light into a dark world where physical and material values reign supreme. May your intention to heal bodies, minds, hearts and souls be well received by those who are ready for their next step in true identity.

Trish~~

Cheers everyone !!!

It's an interesting topic - inention. However I'd like to raise few issues...

Is 'INTENT' and 'INTENTION' the same or two different things. If they are different, then how?

Also is it a field or is it a force?
I see it perhaps more as a force that has power to manifest and the field is the place from where this force arises. The force manifests through our thoughts, actions, activities and behaviours using which we modify our environment.

Also is intent (or intention for that matter)individual or collective? That is can our thoughts, actions and behaviours be influenced and contaminated by the environment we live in or do we have an individual intent which can override the environmental influence?

~ Ruch ~

Over on intentions.me it says there is the thought that..

There is divine intention and egoic intention. If wisdom is involved then egoic intention will align with divine intention. If ignorance is involved then the egoic intention will be misaligned generating the impetus to evolve to wisdom.

Hi Richard,

With that sentence #8 you wrote a beautiful koan :)

It boils down to an 'and and' situation and is in the Scheme of Things.

To me it is the force residing in the field that pushes one gently forwards on his/her path in life.

It is a path that walks itself. The labyrinth of life.

Love, Mieke

Sarah,
As Wayne Dyer says all we need and want, needs and wants us too. Living a Conscious Life is a sure way to manifest, but all of our experiences are created at our soul level. Whether you are manifesting consciously or without full consciousness is the choice we make. (This is only my humble opinion and experience -some of those being magnificent and others far less appealing).

Love,
Wendy S
